Rose's Native Designs - Had to get some beautiful jewelry to take home to LA

I called the store on a Saturday afternoon and spoke to a woman who had the items I was after, and so we drove to Toppenish that afternoon to visit. Rose's is easy to find via Mapquest, right in downtown Toppenish across from City Hall. On a sunny day, surrounded by murals, the environment is welcoming and unique. Entering Rose's, we found the shop's owners were away, but the lady there (her name escapes me) greeted us and knew what I was looking for. The shop is full of all kinds of Native pieces, many of which are handmade by locals. There are dreamcatchers of all shapes, colors, and sizes, decorative Native items, many with wild animals on them such as wolves, bears, and eagles. There are unique jewelry pieces, different styles of medicine bags, beadwork items, as well as supplies for making your own pieces (beads, clasps, feathers, leather and suede material, stones, arrowheads, etc.). My mission to Rose's was for smudging supplies. I wanted sage and an abalone shell. Rose's had beautiful shells, one of which I immediately snatched up. There was a selection of smudging sage, both water and white, as well as sweetgrass. They carry small and large size bundles with very reasonable prices--it's been a few months, but I believe I got the shell for about $8, and the sage was between $4-8 depending on kind and size. Reasonably-priced in my opinion, even compared to prices on Amazon, PLUS you are getting local items, which happens to be important to me. We browsed with the kids (there are many breakables, so parents be attentive!) for over an hour looking at everything and chatting with the shopkeeper. I left feeling content with my purchases, and a wonderful sense of peace and tranquility (a lovely side-effect for those who are more, shall I say, "spiritually tuned"). We smudged at home and the sage was wonderful. It and the abalone shell are permanently displayed in a special place in our home. We have gone back since, with the same pleasant experience and helpful shopkeeper, to purchase various beads, medicine bags (they have fur and leather!), more sage, dried lavender, and a dreamcatcher. We've been consistently pleased with the shop's variety of items, quality, prices, and helpful staff. If you're ever in Toppenish, or if you're a local in search of Native items, I'd recommend you stop at Rose's Native Designs--it is a little gem well worth a look around!

Room had one bed and one bed with only headboard no frame or mattress. There was mouse crap in microwave and floor. Bed had no mattress cover and flimsy sheet that shows yellow stain on bed. Air conditioner broken and filthy and no TV remote. We were told they get stolen all the time. Chair had one arm and they had no replacements. We had 2 pillows total that were the size of a couch pillow and they hadn't any more. It was a sticky floor that you could see dried food. It was awful We posted this on their website but they took it down so you only see the nice reviews. There was no other rooms any where. We looked all direction at least 25 miles out and we already had another 2.5 hours of driving for a noon funeral. They said they'd give us a full refund and they charged us the full price instead. When we left in the morning the gal said don't worry we have your card and I know you're getting a free room. When we were charged my husband called and asked why we're weren't refunded and we he was told we'd have to speak to the manager. By the next day he hadn't called so my husband called again the next morning and then the manager returned our call. He called back stating we can't threatened his staff we tried to explain and he wouldn't let my husband speak he just kept talking over him and told us to never come back. He is a bully and wants it to go away. He says he's the manager ? Maybe owner? They are cheap and don't want to fix the mess and they want to bully their way out. The staff was a young woman who ran the front desk and cleaned rooms and even saw her fixing a questionable lock so people could get in their room. She was amazing and patient and the only nice thing in this whole transaction. Just don't go there we were moved to another room at 11ish. She worked hard cleaning it. No remote and sparsely furnish. But was cleaner. Halls had dust stacked thick on baseboards. I used to clean rooms and was a house cleaner for years. I know what should happen and it didn't happen here. I don't need fancy but I need clean.

Was there on a Sunday and found most businesses in the historic downtown closed. The murals are stunning and beautiful, pulled up a map on my phone drove and walked around. Visiting the town to see the murals is worth the stop!

This business is a "for profit" business. As such, I would think they would be required to post…read moretheir prices, which to my knowledge they do not. We were visiting relatives in Washington and this tour of, "the city of murals" which Toppenish, Wa. is known for looked like an interesting tour for the kids and adults alike. As such our relative made an appointment to meet the horse drawn wagon tour director the next day at a parking lot in Toppenish, so we could go on the horse drawn wagon tour. I was surprised when my relative asked the owner/operator how much it costs for the tour upon our arrival.. I was even more surprised when he stated it is, $15.00 per person. So, we paid $75.00 for 3 adults and two children. It was also a clue when we were the sole people meeting the operator for the tour. The tour consists of the operator and another younger man controlling the movements of two horses that evidently have ancestors in Norway. We "toured" approximately 7 to 9 streets looking at murals on the sides of buildings within the city, while traffic buzzed around us. While the tour operator did have a microphone and used it to "explain" what we were looking at, it was difficult at best to take any pictures of quality as the wagon was constantly moving, stopping, taking off etc. What did we walk away with for $15.00 a head? Nothing worthy of note. I would recommend walking to look at the, "city of murals." For $75.00 I clearly felt we had been taken advantage of as "tourists." As we left the town of Toppenish we saw the prettiest and most detailed mural the city likely has to offer. That was not on the tour and the pictures that had explanations or descriptions of the various murals cannot be read. I was left wondering if the $15.00 per head charge was what this outfit usually charges or the mere question of, "how much" while we stood in an empty parking lot, caused the operator to capitalize on an opportunity that likely does not come his way often. I would not recommend this tour to anybody. It is a 'tourist scam and rip off." We learned nothing that we could not have learned by merely strolling through the small town, field trip style.
