While overpriced the food was sure delicious and the portions huge. Not an every day treat but the food and drinks are definitely worth going back for.

We were looking to for a place to eat in Harrison and everyone had said to eat at Tops Diner so we decided to try it out. We did not make a reservation and on a Tuesday afternoon there was a 30-min wait. We put out name down and waited about 15 mins and then got a table. Inside the diner looked really nice and not like a diner at all. The booths were clean snd the ambiance very nice. We both ordered Sammie which were sandwiches that came with pickle and coleslaw and you could add fries as extra. My friend got the pastrami and I got the grilled cheese. Both sandwiches were really good in terms of flavor and quantity. Both sandwiches came with a standard pickle as well as coleslaw; the coleslaw tasted homemade and did not have any mayo and was really good. Overall good food in a nice atmosphere, a bougie diner experience

Fabulous service! Fried chicken and waffles were amazing, the best fried chicken I have ever had.

I dined here several times over the years. I first dined here when I had to go to Newark airport to take care of some business, we wanted to get a bite to eat so we looked up restaurants and this came up. When you arrive at Tops diner the first thing you think is this is not a diner. They really need to change their name because it does not give Diner vibes! You have to make a reservation well correction you don't have to make a reservation, I suggest you make a reservation because they are so popular just can't walk in. It depends on when you walk in you may get in. Lol. I mean whenever I go near East Newark I will circle around and come to Tops. So they have a parking lot but like any place is very popular in the food is good. The parking lot stay packed. You may have to drive around a little because there's two parking lots on each side of the building. On the one side of the building, they do have a takeout entrance which you can sit in or you can go in there to wait if you are on the list for reservations. their takeout is awesome. I've done that too. Atmosphere: it is very loud because it's good for groups so everyone's just talking and enjoying their food so it can be very loud in there. I love the music that they play. It's great. It's bright cherry decorated very nicely. Service: the workers are so nice and pleasant and very engaging. This helps with your dining experience. They are very tentative and they will address any concern. You have very quickly and try to make it right. This last time I went there about almost 2 weeks ago Fernando was my server and he was so accommodating. I mean, I have a lot of request when I dine out and I mean he did it with a smile. He did not make me feel like I was annoying him, and that meant a lot to me. I also spoke to the manager. I cannot remember her name, but she also was very nice. I had the Rasta pasta and I had I believe some Prosecco I believe and my drink was good, but let's talk about this Rasta pasta; It was so creamy , flavorful and it didn't even have enough kick to me because I'm a spicy person, but it has a light kick. don't think if you see any spiciness it's gonna be too much but then again, you can't ask me about a spice level because I have a high tolerance for heat. It was very tasty. I also ordered a side of sourdough and that was an extra charge. They do not bring bread to the table. I mean these people serve water in a carafe. Nice carafe. What diner does that? Tops!!!! I also took home some corn beef hash you get eggs and potatoes and I forgot to mention that the portions are so big you can take away. The corned beef hash was just OK as well. It was not nasty. I have to say that I've never had a bad meal from Tops. Only request I have is that they build a Tops just like that one in East Newark, but in Philadelphia. I would be so happy but until they do, I think I am going to take a trip at least once a month, that's how much I enjoy them. I've taken family and friends here and thank you they were impressed. They enjoyed it and I can't even mention that I'm in New Jersey because the first thing my family ask is are you near Top? I'm going to take the hour and a half to hour & 45 minute drive once a month that's how much I enjoy this place!! oh I forgot to mention they do have a bar that you can sit at. The drinks are good. I mean, they even have a barista area and as you walk to the takeout side, I think it's called the blue room. If you look to your right, you can see them baking and making things in the back. There's a big glass window. They also had a vending machine with wine and things like that that you can get out of the machine. How cool!!! I hope when you go, you enjoy it as much as I do. if you do go based off of my review, I would like to know what you got and if you enjoyed it or not. Enjoy!!!

I've heard so much about Tops diner that I came in with high expectations, and it did not disappoint! The food was amazing, drinks were plentiful, and there so much variety to chose from. Atmosphere is warm and welcome too! the staff were attentive and helpful. I'll be back!

Best diner ever! The food is always awesome and comes out so quickly. The staff is nothing short of amazing and the cocktails are always made perfectly. Definitely recommend this spot for brunch, dinner, or even a special occasion. The wings and burgers are always a great choice and seasoned perfectly.

My family & I first came here December 2022 and had the best experience. Ambiance, food, service, everything was spectacular. We ate here many times on our vacation. Here we are December 2025 flying all the way from California just to eat here, it has become our favorite restaurant. We have dined in 4 times since yesterday. The food is nothing short of AMAZING. Every time we come we try different foods and haven't been disappointed once. Highly recommend!!

This evening after arriving in New Jersey from California... We decided to eat at the Tops Diner. Our server Alberto was incredibly sincere, friendly, attentive and took excellent care of our table of 8 . He took our orders without pen & paper and amazingly remembered everyone's preferences.... No mistakes even though the restaurant was extremely busy. The atmosphere was lively, the food was delicious, and the presentation was beautiful!!! Highly recommend others visit this iconic diner and we'll be back for sure!

The absolute best diner I've been to…read more The place itself is stunning. It's newly renovated but still has a diner feel, just with some upgrades like a live DJ and a solarium-like addition. Parking is also highly convenient. The menu is extensive and I can't wait to go back to try everything they have. There are the classic breakfast items of course, but they also have some innovative dishes or familiar dishes with a spin. I ordered the jerk chicken pasta which was spicy, so flavorful and also a great portion size. Others in our party ordered pancakes, which were so fluffy, eggs, fried chicken, fried catfish and more. Everything was fried to perfection and the catfish tasted like it had literally just jumped out of the ocean. Our waiter was super nice and we had a big party so I'm sure it wasn't easy. My only suggestion is that they make their hot drinks hotter. Other than that, I'd seriously come back every weekend.

READ FULL REVIEW!!!…read more March 2026: First time at this establishment was just ok. Hosted a very small get-together here (5 guest). Atmosphere was nice. Music was wayy too loud to hear the person you're sitting next to. Food was tasty and fresh. Coffee was good with great creamer selection (at the time). Our server was my least favorite part of this experience. He was over the top with his energy and upscale tactics (pushy with getting us to order extra drinks and appetizers despite declining). I was hosting this event and did not need him selling us after already being told "no, thank you" twice. It was awkward and ultimately changed the vibe. He hardly checked on us after that encounter and we constantly had to remind them about request that were never brought out to the table. Staff needs to be trained better. This was just an ok experience. April 2026 : What ultimately lead me to write this review was my 2nd experience at this diner. The server was a lot better than our first experience, but we did run into a few too many problems. First, we ordered coffee and are informed that per managements request, we can only have half-half or cream with our coffee. Previously they had French vanilla creamers and other flavored creamers but I guess management decided to save on the additional cost. This was a bummer especially realizing that they could easily afford creamers. This restaurant easily pulls at least $150,000 per week in revenue, so I didn't understand cheapening out like that. I still ordered the coffee. When it came to the table I added the cream into the cup only to find something floating in the coffee. I send it back and ask for a new cup, which the server politely provided. We order our meals and all goes well. Eventually two of the three meals come out and we wait for the final plate to come out. It's common courtesy to wait for everyone to have their meal before eating, so we wait. We wait about 6-7 minutes and the final plate comes out only for it to be cold. All of us ordered breakfast, so you can imagine trying to eat cold egg, potato, and sausage. We ask for the waiter, but before he could get to us the manager passes by and we let him know the issue. He takes the plate to the back and about two minutes later he comes back with the same exact plate. Before the manager arrived to take the plate away, I saw the guest split the egg half and add black pepper on everything so we knew it was the same plate and food she started eating off of that was reheated onto the kitchen grill where other food is being prepared for guest. The manager informs us that he had the chef heat the food up on the griddle and that it should be a perfect temperature. We refuse to accept the plate because it was reheated and not remade entirely. We were shocked that this was the solution even being offered. Reheating food on the griddle seemed unsafe (contamination risk, diseases, illness, etc) and offensive. No one pays these prices to have reheated breakfast served to them. I could've just made that at home for a fraction of the price. We politely refuse the reheated plate and he apologized and took the plate to the back. The server comes over to see what the issue is and we explain everything. He says that he will look into it and take that meal off the bill. Now I'm frustrated because one out of the three of us aren't eating anything and the experience was off. At this point, I'm not eating my meal but the 3rd guest is eating. So the guest who sent their plate back and myself are waiting for the 3rd guest to finish their pancakes. He ordered a stack of 4-5 chocolate chip pancakes and was happily eating away at layer by layer. Eventually he gets to the last 2 pancakes and before he adds syrup he notices what appeared to be an eyelash or short piece of hair imbedded in the pancake. Picture of the clearly imbedded hair included with this review. He immediately stopped eating and looks sick. He had already eaten 3-4 pancakes by then and the idea that he ate more of whatever that was felt unnerving, to say the least. We both start looking to see what he's looking at and long behold the hair was there. At this point we are extremely frustrated and completely over this experience. Management did not make this experience right even after addressing all of these issues both separately and together. I felt like my money was not valued and my business certainly wasn't. They did nothing to remedy these issues and I will NOT be going back to this establishment. This restaurant may look visually beautiful but the service is not. Staff needs more training, music needs to be turned down, chefs need to wear hairnets and everyone needs to follow safe food handling skills. You're putting your guest and your business at risk ignoring these issues. I really really wish I had a better experience.

Perfectly cooked pasta. "Everything is homemade," Angelo explained later. Smart and fairly well-priced wine list. We asked why the 2020 Carparzo Brunello di Montalcino was so low priced, and learned the wine has been priced the same since their father closed their Upper East Side location and the kids opened in Newark. "New York food at NJ prices," Angelo explained. "I've never had tiramisu I've liked better", husband told me. "I've never had flan Ive liked better" I told him. (It is coconut flan.) Great service. Wonderful spot. And Bon Jovi has been in twice, most recently he brought his wife. Enough said.

One good thing about this Shoprite is that they carry Calandra's bakery bread which can be hard to find. Produce here isn't all the freshest, and small supply of organic produce and meats.
