I love a good clearance find Tops dis a great job on the seasonal isle and have a ton of clearance items. I love a good sale, and cast iron is my favorite. There were a lot of soup crocks, cast iron pans, griddles, Dutch ovens, ceramic loaf pans, and more. I stumbled down one of the isles to get something from the freezer section and found some microfiber dish towels. This particular store is clean and very organized. Tops is the closest grocery store to our house though Wegmans is only 2 parking lots further. We normally only go to Tops for sale items. They do run some good sales but I find a lot of their normal prices higher than other stores. Besides the prices I find a lot of their employees either rude and/ or unknowledgeable. This is especially true in the produce department where's we've had numerous situations. Last one being when we needed a price on an item that had no sign or code to identify it. Once we got someone's attention they said 'oh they'll check the price when you cash out'. I wanted the price before deciding if I wanted to buy it. They walked away like I was bothering them. Needless to say I didn't buy the item. Tops is a store of convenience and that's it. read more

Nothing Tops Tops. Well okay, a lot Tops Tops, but anyway. Despite giving this place a good review in the old days I have recently decided to lower it because it had bad chicken, and was out of stock of several items that I wanted - and the prices have been higher than I expected... so it's no longer one of my favorite Tops and definitely not one of the better grocery stores in town. But it's conveniently located for my house. Some of the service here has major issues, whereas other people working here are nice. But the main issue is they stopped being open late. They're no longer 24 hours. Which totally killed my usual routine of coming here in the middle of the night. read more

This Tops is convenient to my home. Most things I buy are weekly sale items. I take the sale opportunities to stock up until the next time the items I use are on sale again. I don't buy a lot of the generic store brand items but when the brand name items I prefer are on sale, the prices are reasonable. I have had problems in the past with the meat department and produce. Occasionally I have found expired meat in the meat case and fresh vegetables that obviously froze in their back cooler, prior to putting out. Previously frozen vegetables like celery and lettuce just destroys the product. And for some reason bananas seem to ripen from green to black pretty fast. I am hoping the new manager will shake things up and quality will improve. I will give them some time and then update this review. read more

Rating this store specifically for the breakfast pizza. This is the best breakfast pizza I ever ate. All of the Tops locations are consistent with using the same recipe and I always enjoy it when I get it. On this day, I ordered a large pizza for a work meeting. I ordered a half egg and cheese, and half egg, cheese and bacon pizza. The entire thing was delicious! read more

The store is good, Employees are nice and helpful, bathrooms are real clean and so is the store. The only real disappointment is the bottle return, it's a mess. Usually machines are over filled and it difficult getting someone to empty the machines. The room really needs to be cleaned up. We shop there every week and I dread taking returns every week. I wish Tops could look at this area and straighten it out. We enjoy the grocery store experience and recommend Tops. Don't let the bottle return discourage your grocery shopping. We moved about a year ago, and I had to pick a new more convenient Tops to our new location. So this Tops is not the closest, most convenient to us, but it is closer than our old preferred Tops, and the ones that are closer than this are not as desirable for one main reason. I prefer this Tops because it usually is totally dead. Even pre-pandemic times, I prefer an empty grocery store to one teeming with people. Hence I never shop at Wegmans. For whatever reason, this particular Tops is nary-a-soul most of the time, at least when I make it in. I do the bulk of my grocery shopping these days via WalMart pick-up, but do prefer to pick out some of my own produce and bakery items. So that is mainly what I come to Tops for anymore, and this location does a good job with those things. The quality of fresh items is fine here. Not exceptional, but certainly a decent quality selection. One thing I don't love is they rolled back some sanitizing practices sooner than I'd like, like wiping down the self check-outs between customers no longer is practiced. I always have sanitizer with me, but there are hand sanitizing stations on the way in/out, if you need it. I will continue to use this Tops for my regular fresh staples as needed, and appreciate if you don't come here so it stays nice and quiet when I do. :-P :-P :-P read more

Now its just as big, but more rundown after all these years. The parking lot is huge and its usually easy to park. This place was busier before the Wegmans opened. Absolutely horrible grocery store. Spoiled and expired meat, fish, produce and dry goods. Do not shop here.

Tops confuses me and here's why. There are highly competitive supermarkets in Buffalo. You need to set yourself apart from the others in order to maintain a successful business and flowing clientele. Tops products are more expensive than Wegmans, Target and with Trader Joes coming to the area in a few days, well they are in trouble. If you aren't going to have significant price differences then the employees here should at least have an outgoing friendly demeanor like the employees at Wegmans. It's just a drastic difference coming into the two places (helpfulness, happiness of employees and cleanliness.) The people who were at Tops act like they hate their jobs and act far from professional from what I have seen. Another aspect about TOPS that bothers me was that when I tried using my TOPS card, I had been told it was registered. I explained to the cashier that I had just moved here and signed up about three weeks ago. Her response was, "Okay well you're not in the system sooo......" She wasn't going to allow me to use the discount even though I had registered! I was shocked and thankfully a sweet woman in line behind me let me use her shoppers card. This Tops location suffers from a split personality (DID) disorder. The food selection and prices are good and the COVID-19 safeguards in place have been better than average. Yet, as a customer, I find myself always on guard when visiting this Tops location because I never know what to expect from store personnel. That's because staff tend to be either exceptionally good or absolutely hideous. For instance, on our most recent visit, a male staff member needlessly harassed a disabled person in our party, ostensibly because the person was disabled. At the checkout, another male staff member loudly bullied our female cashier right in front of us even though he was the one at fault. On the other hand, the person cleaning the carts, the produce clerk, and the cashier that we interacted with were incredibly polite and helpful. Again, be prepared for anything because you never know what you'll have to deal with while shopping at this particular Tops location. read more

The lovely gentleman working at the kosher section "Nissan's" has just ruined my family's experience, and any potential future business, at Top's "Friendly" Markets with a few choice words tonight, August 30th, at around 8:30pm. He shouted at me, my mother, and my little brother when we showed him a frozen food package and politely asked what the expiration date was, since it was in his section. He said, word for word, "It's frozen," and, upon looking at our confused faces, he continues, "you eat it." We were more confused then, as my mother subsequently pointed out that her mom knew about health inspection and after 3 months, even frozen food goes bad. That seems common knowledge, especially to someone who owns a section of food business inside Top's Market. He laughed and yelled at us, "Your mother? Who are you? How do you know?" My mom then proceeded to explain that her mother knew substantial health inspection information because of her job, as I also began explaining that New York State Law requires an expiration date on frozen food packages, but he kept laughing, and replied "Why you women always fight?" I wasn't able to sit back and tolerate this kind of sexist, misogynistic behavior at my local grocery store, so I asked for his name. He asked "Why you want my name?" to which I replied "To report you for your sexist comment." He didn't speak a word to any of us after that, and he never did give me a name, but I spoke to two Top's employees about his behavior, one closeby working in the fruit section, and one working in Customer Service. They said that he rents out that area, and that it's his own business, so they "can't do anything about it." This dismissal of outright shameful behaviour is likely the reason he harassed us in the first place, about "women always fighting" and shouting "what do you know" when customers just wanted a simple date to know when their food goes rancid. If there are no consequences for him, or for anyone who decides to open up shop inside of Top's, then I'm absolutely certain he'll continue shutting customers down when he's scared and doesn't know the answer to a question, invalidating their knowledge, and insulting everyone involved in order to attain some sort of higher ground on the basis of his abhorrent lack of knowledge. Consequently, I didn't end up buying anything from "Nissan's," the Kosher section, or anything in the vicinity of his "shop" at all for that matter. His attitude and demeanor are not only bad for his business, but for Top's as well. I will be calling the manager, Cindy, to talk about the next steps in this process, and I'm confident NYS Health Inspection would love to get a look at what he's been selling people, who are unaware of his gross ignorance in the food business. I wonder if Top's would get involved if Health Inspection ends up shutting his section down, and blaming them for not keeping an eye on things, like customer complaints. Please be safe, be vigilant, and stay away from Nissan's for you and your children's sake. read more

After cashing out our purchases at the self check out, my wife realized that she had not picked up her prescription at the pharmacy. She went to the pharmacy line. Since there was no bags or stickers provided at the self check out, I pile up our purchases to take to our car. In the foyer, employee Mike stopped me and accused me of stealing. He grabbed some of my purchases from the top of my pile. I told him that my wife had the receipt in her purse in the pharmacy line. His response was "sure she does." in an aggressive way. After she showed him the receipt he gave us our purchases and left without a word. Employee Mike needs some politeness retraining since he is a bad reflection on the store. read more

I was shopping in this Tops today and two things pointed out to me that customer service was not a priority. First, after walking around the store looking for tofu for a while, I asked a person, possibly a manager where it was located. He told me it was in the produce section. I couldn't find it there and asked at clerk. She pointed to some area and I finally after asking a third person I located it. I'm sure I'm spoiled by people who care in other stores. Even Walmart escorts you to the product, and doesn't just point languidly to a non-specific location. Then, as I waited for my ride I went to a location where there used to be a bench. It wasn't there so I asked an employee if there was one located somewhere else and he pointed down a walkway. I went where he pointed and there wasn't one there. I asked another person who pointed somewhere else. He also pointed but no bench. Not really important in the greater picture but when an 80 something year old is walking around a large store, she needs to sit down. Just say'n! I nonetheless gave this Tops 'Friendly' Market 3 stars because they had the products that I wanted and the checkout woman was exceedingly helpful. read more

This specific Tops location has come a long way! It is so fancy inside! I haven't been to this Tops in about 3 years and it was definitely not this fancy or nice before. The fruit and vegetable section is especially nice with a large variety. It also seems brighter. I love that they kept the bulk cookie section! That was a staple in my childhood. I do miss the Boxed Truck doughnuts. I wish all Tops were this fancy inside. It would make it more enjoyable shopping at Tops and would intrigue me more to choose Tops as our grocery destination. Although, Tops probably won't ever top Wegmans. (Never say never?) The plant and flower section upon walking in is pleasant and inviting. read more

In the past I wouldn't really have had any reason to review Tops but, a recent trip there after going to the gym inspired me to inform the general public of something awesome. This awesomeness pertains to their fried chicken in their prepared foods department. Now I know there are skeptics out there that will say 'you must be out your god damn mind.' But, this is some freakin really good chicken. It has a good flakey/crispy crust, it's not too salty or greasy and it's usually pretty moist considering it's served in a buffet pan. And sometimes if your lucky, you'll show up right as it's coming out of the fryer. Please be warned though, be patient or you will burn the ever living crap out of your mouth. On a side note, I noticed that their prepared foods like the salad bar and sandwich shop were actually cheaper than Wegmans. Kind of surprised me. Haven't tried anything other than the chicken but figured I'd give the heads up. read more

Why on God's green earth do they have only self checkout open in the evening? It takes twice as long, gets backed up worse than a normal line because there are so many issues, and is just generally bad customer service. The employee shouting instructions from the podium doesn't help matters. Self checkout is fine as an option, but is ridiculous as the only one. Tops is not Wegmans but their small Maple - Transit Rd location is my shopping choice. I love that the store is not massive. I love their meat selection and how their meat employees lower the price on meats regularly. I like that they have a manager's discount food area where various items r greatly discounted. I like the self check out . In produce they have unique melons that are put in a 4 slice pkg which is good for an individual. read more

I don't know what happened that inspired them, but the customer service has improved greatly and stands out above the other Tops locations, even the one a block from my apartment. I go out of my way to this one. The staff are friendly and helpful. The management are friendly and professional. It is the complete opposite of the Colvin Blvd. location. read more
