The Market In The Square at the Southgate Plaza is my happy place. I don't normally get to shop at this grocery store as it is out of my local area. But when I have other appointments that bring me here, I will always visit the Market In The Square. I absolutely love their produce. It's all the finest quality and freshness. I took a moment to personally compliment the grocer as she stacked new produce on the attractiveness of her department The bakery is also very important to me. This is an old style, bakery with top-notch donuts, pastries, rustic style, breads, and rolls. I always take something home from the bakery. This store reminds me of grocery stores from my childhood when the owner was in the store to assist the customers, as he was today in the store. This is one of those places that has an amazing bakery, great fish fry, wonderful deli and also has a grocery store attached. Their bakery is one of the reasons I love Market in the Square. So many freshly baked, tasty options, many things you won't find at other grocery stores. For example, they often have Polish treats like the sour cream cheese cake and Placek. They have tasty donuts, cakes, cookies and vanilla pastry hearts. The bakery staff is always kind and have a lot of attention to detail in their work. The fish fry is fantastic as well! Several different options (fried fish, baked fish, shrimp, breaded scallops and combo platters) You get a lot of food for the price and it is always crisp and not soggy. The rest of the store has an old school grocery store look and vibe to it without looking or feeling dingy or outdated. There are often lines for checkout because there just aren't that many registers, but overall, it is a great place for your dessert needs! read more

we ordered the $29.99 pizza and wing special. the pizza was tasty, great crust! If there was two pieces of pepperoni on each piece that would have been a lot! The market was indeed very stingy with pepperoni. The wings were ordered medium and e were nicely cooked but had absolutely no sauce at all! The wings just tasted like they were deep fried plain. I will not be ordering from them again nor will I recommend them to anyone. read more

Third time I picked up meat and again they sold me spoiled meat. And I meant I couldn't even get the beef out of the package without almost vomiting. The beef was green..... so I called and I spoke to someone in the meat department and they told me all I needed was the tag. Get there and all of a sudden they needed to product back. That's fine by all means but why couldn't you have told me that on the phone when I called? I also love how the woman at the service desk told me I was lying..... do better. read more

Stopped by here to grab lunch as I saw they have a Deli / Cafe. Pretty busy place and the Deli / Cafe area is pretty cramped. Walked up to order Pizza but was told to to go the other end to order, which is fine but not clearly marked. Grabbed a slice of Cheese and Pep. Burned crust underneath, it was 11:45am and tasted like it had sat there for about 2 hours. Not Tasty at all, tasted like bad gas station pizza. Meh read more

Very impressed with the store and layout. Came here after 3 other shops looking for fresh pizza dough. They have everything I needed for pizza night. The quality was fresh and bigger dough than I had ever seen. Pretty good for the price. Self check out was quick and easy. They had cute reusable tote bags with the shop's logo (had cute designs) which I had to get-- was my souvenir. Everyone was friendly. read more

Their bakery is stocked full of tempting, delicious treats! On my last trip I saw pistachio shortbread cookies, placzek muffins (they were called something else), almond rings, big m&m filled cookies, and so much more. We ended up picking up their Polish Cheesecake donuts and one cream cheese donut (same as the cheesecake, but without a strawberry or chocolate topping) while there.  $1 from each of their Polish Cheesecake donuts was being donated to ECMC.  All were yummy and had a great tang from the cream cheese filling (it reminded me of the filling in a cheese danish). I love this place for baked goods and I feel that older people do too. read more

Great market! Produce section is amazing and so fresh. The meat section and butcher is outstanding. They remodeled a few years ago and it's immaculate! They also have their own in-store bakery so the donuts and cakes, pies, etc are great. They also have some prepared food and desserts. And of course Friday fish fries are worth the wait!! read more

Neither location is in my neighborhood, so stopping in when I am near, think about it and have the time, for me is a treat. In my opinion, they have the best baked goods. Their donuts, especially, are outstanding for both quality and variety, and the price! Much of what fills my cart on my occasional visits are their in-store prepared foods. Salads, pierogi, sausage, stuffed hot peppers, chicken wing dip, etc. Pizza crusts always available, and their brand pizza sauce on special for a quick grab. Even better, the small size of the store compared to major markets makes for a quick trip. Love this once in a while treat! read more

This is the type of store I love to browse around. All of the bakery products are delicious and fresh. Their fried chicken is the best around. Some of the other reviewers mentioned products past the sell by date. This happens in every store. My daughter bought products at Wegmans that were expired. I have gotten products that were expired from Walmart and Tops. You have to check the date everywhere. The Market has some good deals on frozen food. I went to the North Tonawanda location. I was doing an event with a limited budget and needed to custom order some baked goods. The staff was wonderful (Cherie, I think was one womens name) they made everything so pretty sprinkles and frosting with my organizations colors. I ordered 3 dozen mini pastry hearts, 24 raspberry pillow cookies (everyone's favorite) lemon tarts, pecan tarts, 2 dozen giant snicker cookies, 1 dozen cutouts that were frosted to perfection 1 pack of sugar cookies and 1 pack of peanut butter cookies. I also added peanut butter brownies...all for $82!!!! Everything really was pretty and delicious. Thanks for going above and beyond bakery staff. You rock! read more

I take a trip to this store every few months to stock up on meat and seafood. They have great prices and decent-quality products. Just be aware that you are not always buying prime cuts of meat (check packaging), so you may have a little extra fat to clean off or you may need to tenderize more than a nice cut. They also make their own sausage and it's delicious. They have amazing baked goods and a wide selection of prepared foods as well. read more

I loved this place in their infancy. The prices were fantastic. The selection was somewhat limited however I could always find what I needed. Recent experiences. About two months ago I bought "Ma's cheese pierogi". Available at other stores, I just happened to be here and had an hankering. Market repackages the pierogi into their own black styro/plastic wrap containers. This is the only store that does this. "Ma's" comes in white, deep containers. Any how. I will only eat cheese or 'kraut pierogi. This is what I grew up with. You can imagine my surprise when I cut into my dinner dumpling to find POTATO!!! All of the plump little suckers were spud filled! Into the garbage they went. I contacted "Mkt in the Sq" to advise them of their mistake and the response was - "so what do you want?". Correct labeling perhaps? Last week I stopped in and saw that they offered Parkside chocolate covered popcorn. $5.99 for a small bag. I happen to love this stuff Tasted a little stale so I checked the bag. The expiration date was 5/31/21. Off to the trash bin it went. I expect this from "TOPS", the well known seller of expired product at full price. What ever. I believe that my shopping days here are over. read more

Market in the Square! First off I just want to say, the rotisserie chickens are thebomb.com! This place is your go to place for savings and great shopping experience. Loads of deals and coupons weekly. Just be extra careful and make sure things are fresh as sometimes things can slip between the cracks. For example the meat area can be a bit sketchy. However the butchers here are awesome and super helpful. Always take time to meet and ask questions with your local butchers. Overall a great competition to other larger grocery stores in the area. Ok, now I'm not a butcher, but I'd think that this place hires people with some experience cutting steaks. The people I dealt with seemed uninterested in doing a good job. Never have I seen a qualified butcher cut a flat iron steak across the grain of the muscle. A flank iron is cut from the chuck near the shoulder . It's a work muscle and has good texture and a nice beef flavor when it's cut right. These people cut it just wrong and ruined the whole experience of eating a flat iron steak. I bought a flank the same day, which was cut correctly and was quite good . Thank god they didn't screw that up. So I'll never cross the threshold of the West seneca store again. The only one I will trust is the one that was the Budweys on Colvin. They cut them correctly. I only eat meat, so im a bit persnickety . read more

This is one of my favorite stores. The meats and produce are my main draws when going in. During the summer they ran several freezer fill up specials and I took full advantage. While it is an out of the way commute for me, I am never disappointed with my finds. Great prices on steaks and chicken, fresh selection and great sales on produce. They always have the best apples in the fall. If you are a person who likes prepared foods, they have an awesome counter for take home or eat in lunch specials or dinners. They start with anything from pizza and subs to fried chicken and meatloaf. They sell by the meal. The lunch meat counter also has a very large selection of meats, cheeses and olives. They are very friendly and eager to slice to your liking. The meat counter is a pleasant experience with great home made sausage selections, sliced bacon and other cuts. WOW A+!! What a great place, I wish I lived closer. I have had items from the deli, bakery, and meat market. The Meat market really shines and a true gem, so much better then Tops and even Wegmans. Great prices and quality on Sausage links, Pork tenderloins, steaks and any other meat you need! The produce was great and a lot of was local and home grown. I started coming to the Market in the Square because it's in the plaza I work in and was convenient, but I've started to really like it for some things. They always have great meat prices, and different sales every week. Chicken breasts are generally always on sale and convenient to pick up for dinner. Last week I got great steak for $5/lb. Their baked goods are really good too. They also have clearance baked goods out every day which is an added plus. Other than meat and baked goods I don't buy too much here - when they have sales they have good prices but some of their regular prices can be on the higher side. I like that it's a smaller store so I can generally get what I need and get out fairly quickly. read more

Went to north Tonawanda location today Friday 3/19/21. Wife and I ordered fish fry And fried chicken dinner. Let me warn you, all the food was cool, not hot! The fried chicken was so dry , there was no way to eat it, it seemed like it was laying around for hours!!! The French fries were Luke, not hot. Everything was Luke not hot. It is very clean and not over crowed with people making shopping easy to do and not feel crowed. They have great sales and the meat section has so many choices it was fun to shop.
