I'm not sure why I consistently have mixed experiences at Tops but this trip fell right in line with the past trips. When I went shopping I found empty shelves throughout the entire store. Empty, bare ,tumble weeds echoing voices... that empty. Both in dry goods and in the freezer section. It makes shopping challenging to say the least. When I do find something on my shopping list it can be as much as two dollars higher than the other grocery store a block away that is considered expensive. It's puzzling. On the upside, I find some really great frozen products that I haven't found in any other store in town. On this trip I found vegetarian Jamaican hand pies. They were delicious and for no other reason I will go back for those. read more

I love this Tops. It's my neighborhood store so I come here all the time. Most of the employees know me by name and I them. Besides when everyone is panic buying in preparation for the COVID-19 quarantine, this store is usually well stocked and the service is friendly. Tops Fish fry season review. They have a buy 6 get the 7th free until easter special going. This is made fresh from the carry out cafe. Decided to try it since I was there getting salad fixings. What I liked- they had a little station set up in the front of the store where they assembled your meal. Complete with warming trays for the fish and fries, a cold station for the coleslaw tartar sauce. You just formed a line ordered and they packaged it up. Convenient for sure. Dislikes-The fish really wasn't much to brag about I didn't know what I was expecting. I thought it was a typical fast food type fish fry. For $8.99 it did the trick but I won't get it again. read more

More like Bottoms. This tops just keeps getting worse and worse for me. They literally never have anything I want any time I come in here. And some of the servers have been pretty damn bad. The only great thing that's ever happened to you where the beautiful ducks that used to hang out a lot in the parking lot, every single evening and night. I'm not sure what happened to them. I'm not a big fan of Tops compared to Wegmans. I liked this one because they carried a lemonade iced tea that I loved. So they stopped carrying it. The prices are kind of high, and their self-checkout machines are awful... it's so stop-and-start and is very difficult to operate. I had a negative experience with a supervisor for the self-check-outs recently, that almost made me lower it to 1 star. read more

I am a Tops loyalist. With Wegman's being most people's store of choice in the 716, and so many discount grocery options out there now too, us Tops lovers are a rare breed, I know. But I continue to patronize Tops because I like the way the stores are organized, the generally well-stocked options, the reliable produce, and the decent store-brand and sale prices. We recently moved, and this Williamsville Tops is our new go-to location. I've been in several times now, as has my husband, and we both like this store. Things are easy to find, they carry all of our usuals, and the store is pretty clean. Both my husband and I have noticed what appears to be the manager making sure things are tidy, and the staff well-oiled. I appreciate when there is clear, meaningful care to keep an establishment pleasant for shoppers. One nuance of this store that we haven't noticed at all Tops--this Tops has a great discount bakery section. You can grab some decent day-olds for a good deal. Bulk candy is marked down, too. We're trying to be resolution'y at the moment, but it's good to know cheap sweet is nearby when we're weak. :-P I'm sure I'll be back into this Tops again and again. I know Tops has been struggling to keep up with the competition in recent years, but you at least have one loyal family who keeps coming back to keep you afloat. This is my preferred Tops location. There isn't anything fancy about this store, and it is rather small, but when I need something, they have it. When I frequent this location, there seems to be not many people in the store, which also helps in me liking this location. read more

It's a little surprising that in this day of COVID that a supermarket like Tops continues to have poor service. Essentially they need to realize that their customers do not want to spend more time than necessary in the store. The longer you're in the store, the more you are exposed to other people. it's that simple. So imagine my delight today trying to flag down the always absent butcher. The butcher counter does not have a bell or buzzer. But I could see the two staff in the back through the window and I kept waving for almost 15 minutes, trying to get someone's attention. By the time someone noticed me I mentioned that they didn't have a bell or a buzzer. No apology, no sorry for the inconvenience, the guy just shrugged and said nope, no bell. Service is not just about good manners anymore. It now is a matter of good health. I am done with this Tops location. read more

Clean, modern Tops with easy parking. I've been here a few times and my only criticism is that their butcher block is small, and doesn't have much of a variety of pre-made items, like store made sausages, meatballs, stuffed peppers/mushrooms, etc. Other Tops locations will have a large case of ready to cook items which is nice because when made in store there's usually no preservatives added. Their meat case overall is just smaller than other locations, and smaller variety of seafood options too. However in my most recent visit, we got 2 Porterhouse steaks that were on sale and had good size filets on them. Overall the store is clean and well organized, but the layout is different than other Tops locations, it feels smaller. I'd recommend this Tops if it's on the way for you and you're just picking up a few things. Or if you're buying food for a party, since snacks and desserts seem to always be on sale at Tops. read more

First, let me say this: I went out of my way to this Tops in search of a Korean BBQ sauce (the company's website said I could find it here). Well, they had all of the other brand's sauces, but not the one I was looking for. I decided to get the rest of my groceries anyway. I'd like to start by pointing out there was the most vile, nasty smell coming from the meat section. You could smell it everywhere, but when you got there, it was hard to breath. It smelled like rotten cheese curds mixed with a dead body (not that I know what any of those smell like). It made for an unpleasant experience. I definitely lost my appetite and bought the bare minimum. That smell lingered with me the rest of the night. The store was .. idk .. creepy. It just didn't fit in with Williamsville. It just seemed old and kind of messy. The lighting was not pleasing and it was strangely quiet. IDK. You just have to go there. It was not aesthetically-pleasing. I noticed a lot of things missing, aside from the sauce I was looking for; I needed red potatoes for a roast and there were only 5LB bags and a few dying individual reds. I needed about 6-7 reds. I was surprised to see an employee right there organizing the potatoes not taking out the yukky reds .. There were also products missing from the frozen foods. When I went to chase out at the self-checkout, I had to wait for one to open. I looked away for two seconds because I don't like to stare people down .. and the person working the self-checkouts was like "this register is open!" .. it reminded me of someone beeping at you the second the light turns green because you don't put the pedal to the metal. As I went to cash out my last item, I noticed the bottom of the box was completely ripped open and so I decided not to buy it. Needless to say, I will not return to this store. I wouldn't anyway because another Tops and Wegmans are walking distance from my house but still ... this place deserved a crappy review. read more

As far as Tops go, this one is leaps and bounds above the one that was around the block from my apartment for the longest time (at Grant/Amherst). It's a nicely organized grocery store with decent prices. I mean, come on...we know Tops, right? The best part is that the employees are actually happy here! It makes a huge difference. Happy employees = things are more organized, you're greeted authentically when you come, people are helpful and receptive to you and you just come in feeling better. I came in looking to get some late-night flowers around 9pm on my way home. I was happy that they had a flower section, but was disappointed in their selection (Wegman's definitely has much larger variety). I really just wanted to get a single rose, but they wouldn't sell them individually, so I had to buy a dozen. At $15, it was more then what I wanted to spend (good thing my fiancé doesn't follow my Yelp reviews!), but hey -- I got a dozen roses and mostly everyone was happy. Since returning from abroad, I have had many disappointing experiences at a few Buffalo-area Tops locations. As a child and young adult I recalled many of visits to be second to none if not on par with perineal competitors such as Wegmans, however in recent years, Top Friendly Markets consistently has lagged behind by way of price, cleanliness, quality, selection, customer service when matched against local, national and international chains that have entered the Western New York market within the past decade. My frustration with Tops started when first returned to the area May of 2015. I wanted to return bottles and cans for their deposit at the Tops Main and Union location. I had various redeemable container purchased at different Supermarkets throughout the area. I inserted various bottles and cans into the machines which were purchased at several non-Tops stores such as Wegmans. All the cans were accepted and credited with the acceptation of a few others - the containers that were once filled with drinks I had purchased at another Tops locations the other side of town. Last year, I was shopping for bananas the Tops Maple and Transit location. After I inserted my phone into the front pocket of my shorts, the mobile phone fell to the floor. As I was about to pick up the phone I noticed a working heading in the path where the phone fell a few feet away. The worker, wearing black shirt with a red collar, was dangerously close, so instead instead of reaching down to pick up my phone I told the worker "I dropped my phone" and "watch out." Oblivious to my commands, the worker ran over my phone with the cart, causing two of the four wheels of the cart to knock the flimsy cover of the phone and and cause damage to the screen and stylus. Judging by the colors of the employee's shirt I was certain it was a Tops employee who had damaged my phone. I called Tops customer service explain what had happened but they insisted that they reviewed video of the incident and insisted that it was not a Tops Employee they view in the incident, but a Coca Cola vender and they were not responsible. I had no idea how it would be possible that representative of Cola Cola would be pushing a cart carrying produce into the produce department. She along with other representatives told that a representative of Coca Cola's insurance provider would be in touch with me and warned that I could that I could be responsible for committing fraud. When I got in touch with Coca Cola's insurance representative I was stunned how unprofessional she was. I assumed she had access to the very same video the Tops employees had allegedly viewed and insisted she view it. "Check the video," I said. She then replied "yeah, I'll check the video," with a hint of sarcasm. I said it may not have been a Coca Cola employee because the person maneuvering the cart was wearing a shirt like most Tops employees commonly wear. I then asked what she saw in the video. After asking. She then revealed to me that there was no video and the call ended abruptly thereafter. Following the call, I continued to call Tops' costumer service to inform them what happened , insisting it was Tops and the Coca Cola Company that was responsible for the damage of my mobile phone. To this day, I was compesated by Tops with not even a ten-doller gift certificate. It's really a shame how petty Tops has become. read more

Tops is locally closer than Wegmans, however since they have reorganized, selection is "CRAP" We personally like Monks bread and we've found now that Wegmans is the only chain contracted with the Abbey that makes the bread. Other items, are either sold out or the stores shelves haven't been restocked!!! read more

I am not a huge fan of this store, but when we need something quickly it is pretty close. One of my daughter's friends works here so from time to time it is nice to see his friendly face. A couple of reasons we stopped shopping here was, One they are the cost of Wegmas at this point and two we got yelled at by an employee about checking corn. So here's the story... During the Summertime my husband Aaron and I enjoy sweet corn from time to time. An employee had just finished stocking the corn so we went up and started pulling back some of the husks to see if they were good or not. We found three bad ones and two good ones. We were about to check out a sixth ear of corn when this huge man ran at us yelling to "Put down the corn right now!" We were very startled thinking something was wrong with it or something when this employee started raising his voice further to express that "We had ruined the food and would have to pay for it!" We asked what he meant and he went into the thought that shucking the corn ruins it and makes it unusable. My husband calmly told him that he was checking the corn to make sure it wasn't bad or malformed and the guy just kept repeating "you have to buy that" and "you ruined the corn!" Mind you right next to the display was a trash can as well as pre-peeled corn sold prepackaged. At this point I was horrified and my husband was getting very angry for the sudden outburst. So my husband and I decided to find the manager. He stayed there while the employee had his melt down and fortunately right up front of the check out lines and I infomed him of the situation. He was very shocked that this employee was acting as he was and asked my husband and the employee to explain their sides of the story. Aaron explained that we were making sure the corn was ok and the manager saw no problem with this. He then asked his employee to explain. He was very flustered and red faced so the manager walked off with him to get his side. The man heatidly told the manager his side and when he was done the manager sent him to the back of the store and apologized for his behavior. The manager is almost always there when we go in and is a lovely guy, but there was nothing to excuse the employees poor attitude and explosive outburst. I give it a three star rating because of how the manager responded and how well he worked with all of us. Unfortunately it is now very uncomfortable when we see the worker there and now have become regulars to Aldis and Wegmans as their employees and products are wonderful and we receive superior service at both places. read more

I was really happy when this grocery store converted into a Tops, and it's leaps and bounds better since it switched. I especially love the fresh roasted turkey breast available in the Deli - as someone who can't have the preservative used in 99.9% of lunch meat, this was an amazing discovery for me! Although, they roast one or 2 a week and when it's gone, it's gone... and apparently there's a woman who comes in and buys like, half of it every time they roast one (save some for the rest of us! UGH!) The cheese and bakery sections always have what I'm looking for. Like most Tops' and other grocery stores, the meat and seafood selections can be a little limited, but they always have the basics available. Produce is 10x more fresh than the Tops down the road off Kensington, so this is my store of choice to get the nice plump tomatoes and unspoiled berries. Personally, albeit a hot & contested issue round these parts, I think Tops has great prices and always has the things I need on sale, so I'm always happy at this store. read more

The old lady that works at night in the deli is lazy. I wanted a pound of cheese but there was less than a half of pound pre cut. She at first said they were out but when I showed her they had more she said she couldn't open a new brick. Eventually she found a piece of something ( that I believe was another orange cheese, different from the one I ordered) and cut another half pound. While standing there two other people couldn't get what they wanted either. If you don't want to slice meats/cheeses don't work at a deli. Laziness is unacceptable. read more
