Always a great experience! The rotating menu keeps it interesting and it's a fun way to try new dishes. The farm to table aspect should be more popular, especially in an area so rich with local farms! The food is always excellent. The drinks are thoughtful and they also make good mocktails. Staff definitely are what make it special too as they know so much about the ingredients and dishes they serve. They do have outdoor seating on a porch as well. Lots of different seating for two or larger groups. It's not a cheap option for us but it's always worth the money and it makes a special occasion feel even more special. read more

My wife and I had a truly amazing first experience last night celebrating a birthday. Everything was absolutely delicious and we were treated so very well by the entire staff, including Kerstin the GM, & Adam the Chef. It is very difficult to operate a restaurant of this quality and manage the food, service, and the customer dining experience, and Topsoil delivers it all. The staff are obviously knowledgeable of the food and wine, (and the thought and care that go into it) & show an eagerness to share it. First up, we both had the Yellowtail Hamachi crudo, which is of sushi quality, cut in thin translucent layers, brightened by a subtle, balanced vinaigrette, and accented with minuscule slivers of radish and edible flower petals. A beautiful preparation that shouldn't be missed. Entrees were the beef cheek for me, and swordfish for my spouse. Beef cheek is similar in texture and flavor to a braised pot roast or shank, w/ a deeply meaty taste, and enhanced by a delicious sauce of purée of vegetables and served with the King Of Asian mushrooms: Maitake. A wonderful and unexpected combo of flavors. Swordfish was a thick, fresh cut of a SC Pumpkin Swordfish, a rarely seen specialty fish. Sauce was a delicate, lemon accented one, with hints of a light ham taste, contrasting the briny, citrus flavors with capers, tomatoes and fennel. Truly amazing. Desserts were equally on par, especially the buttermilk & vanilla panna cotta. Also worth noting is the unusual wine list and good selection by the glass, with an emphasis placed on exploring various regions and grape types. These are food friendly wines meant to complement the fine food. A+ meal. read more

Sat outside in a covered patio area for brunch. I'm glad we were not sitting on the actual outside area because it ended up being a little bit cool. We were seated quickly and enjoyed a good cup of coffee while admiring all the totally decadent meals being served around us. There was a cinnamon roll that was huge with so much frosting on it. If I could've ordered that and handled that I would have, however, there was no way, but the people who ordered it seemed to love it, and I was impressed. The French toast was great, all the bread was sliced so thick! We ordered a sourdough bread that was yummy too. There's a beautiful bar seen inside and it's a lovely setting. read more

The French toast was a let down. It wasn't very sweet or flavorful. It was kinda bland which I think is really hard to do for French toast. ‍ Shrimp & grits was okay, I've had better. It came with okra in it, which I didn't like. I don't like okra bc it tastes slimy to me, but their okra was the best I've ever had. I still picked it out but I did try it at least. The other two entrees were my families food. Pretty basic eggs, sausage and potatoes, so I'm assuming it was good. Atmosphere was gorgeous! Staff was friendly and professional. I had the best experience here for my birthday last month. The ambiance is great, the staff was also great, the hostess was so friendly. I arrived a little early, so she sat me in a little waiting area until my table was ready and offered me a drink. I went on the weekend, and it was very busy for brunch at Bluegrass Brunch. I sat outside; it was gorgeous sitting on the patio with a view of the swamp rabbit trail and listening to the live band play. The waitress came over and took my order; the food was a little slow arriving, but it was packed, and I did not mind. I started with the Cinnamon Roll, which to me was all about the icing, which you could put on a piece of cardboard, and it would taste good, so to me, that was a win, but it wasn't your typical Cinnamon Roll; it was more like a dinner roll with icing on it, so if you plan on it being like one you would get in a mall, it is not; this is elevated, not as sweet, and a lot less cinnamon, which I enjoyed. For my main course, I got the Top Soil Breakfast, which was two eggs. I got them over medium with extra crispy bacon, and it was so thick and delicious. I also got breakfast potatoes, which were so nice and crispy, and do yourself a favor and ask for the homemade hot sauce; omg, the hot sauce was so good! I need to see if they sell that next time I am there; it was so good. All in all, it was a perfect breakfast with great quality food and great service. I will be back. read more

My husband and I went here for brunch for an early anniversary celebration on a Saturday. Ambiance was great with some live music on the patio, our server was also great and very attentive. Unfortunately that's where the good parts ended. We got an Irish coffee and a Bloody Mary to start, both terrible. Irish coffee was very watered down (he did get it cold rather than hot) so maybe that's why, and my Bloody Mary had almost no flavor other than tomato juice/puree and a bit of vodka. We got biscuits and gravy with 2 eggs and the croque madame for our entrees, both were really bad and I don't say that often. The gravy on his tasted almost like a hollandaise sauce, kind of lemony and dill rather than sausage/umami. My croque madame was super dry, toast was burnt on the outside, the ham had almost no flavor, and my egg was very overcooked. For a Michelin recommended restaurant, this was definitely underwhelming/overpriced and not what we were expecting. We will probably try out the dinner menu but would not be back for brunch. read more

Drove to Traveler's Rest to do the touristy thing and walk around on Memorial Day weekend! Waited five minutes for help with seating on what seemed like not very busy for Sunday brunch time. My review is based on eating brunch here on a Saturday. The staff immediately seemed so welcoming and cheerful. The menu was explained and my server was aware of my raw tomato allergy since I'd made a reservation with Resy. The space was nice but felt casual and comfortable. I decided to get the breakfast sandwich with a veggie patty. I do eat meat but for some reason, the veggie option just sounded really good. I liked that the English muffins are made in house along with as many of the components as possible and using local ingredients. The veggie patty was mildly spicy and had a very flavorful Indian spice profile. The breakfast potatoes were excellent as well. I did need to ask for my tea to be refilled. That was my only "complaint" about the experience. I will definitely be coming again for brunch sometime soon. It is on the pricey side but I thought the quality and the fresh local ingredients justified that price. They aren't just reheating frozen and delivered items. They are actually preparing interesting menu items and supporting local farms as well. The portion size was also filling, you can see from my photo that they actually give a decent amount of potatoes. While the menu was small, I think it offered a nice variety of sweet and savory, lighter meals and more hearty options. I got a cinnamon roll to go and it was also excellent. I like when the server is familiar with the food on the menu and can give recommendation or answer questions. So based on my experience, I'd highly recommend Topsoil! read more

Y'all. OMG. The whole grain carrot pancakes are perfect. The cake, itself, melts in your mouth (even with a nice crisp exterior). I'm not usually a sweets person, even for brunch, but this was a great choice to share with the table as a starter! Visiting the South, I was drawn to the grits. Today's dish was Shrimp and Grits with a Creole creamy saucy. Fantastic! Literally as good as shrimp and grits from New Orleans. Even better. Whether it's the frittata, the hash, or the grits, do yourselves a favorite and try out the house made hot sauce. Seems like a vinegar base, but has a perfect bite without destroying your entire throat. They even sell it so you can take it home! read more

My friend and I decided to give the brunch a try. We walked in, and were sat quickly. However, we were there a good ten minutes before anyone approached us. Several people came in after us and were waited on. Finally, someone came and took our order. We felt like we were over looked because we were not dressed as "fancy." I ordered a coffee with frangelica and received a mimosa like my friend. She didn't even stay around long enough for me to change it. not to mention for 11 dollars the mimosa was not even close to half way full. Then our food was interesting and we were over it. She brought the check and we asked her to split it and we each pay for our own. She split it down the middle. For the price of this place, we felt like our experience was a comedy of errors and definitely a waste of money. If it would not have been for others we would have never had refills either. First time experience and enjoyed the whole thing. Staff was fantastic explaining drinks and food . We loved that they are a very true farm to table. They have a tastings type menu...pick an item from small.plates, entree and dessert($65). You can add wine pairings for $25. These were all excellent.. the mushroom and brussel sprout dish is amazing along with the beets and berries salad. The sauces that accompany the dishes are super tasty as the chef appears to have painstakingly taken time to perfect. We loved that the chef was there to see and approve each entree coming out of the kitchen....and at times--- unacceptable dishes were sent back to be fixed. The sommelier wine pairings were perfect with the dishes...admittedly I would not drink some of these on their own but the pairings were spot on. The staff is very kind and knowledgeable . Two minor points to note....if you aren't even a bit of a foodie....the menu may be "too scary.." There appears to be no simple menu regular staples . The second concern was we sat at the bar and while comfortable....the bar seats ( with backs) sit a bit low. With all that being said ...wewill totally visit again!!! read more

I honestly expected more considering the hype and how pretentious the staff and prices were. I went for brunch and was only impressed by 1 out of our 4 dishes. The star of the show was an elevated Benedict style dish with a béchamel sauce. The second runner up was the carrot pancakes. They were yummy but it really wouldn't have hurt to add a pinch more of the granola and compote on top. There was enough toppings for like two bites... The breakfast bowls with potatoes, eggs and sautéed veggies felt overly basic and something we could have made at home for a fraction of the cost. The Bloody Mary didn't wow me either. I'd like to go back for dinner and see what's good. I do admire the farm to fork concept and the decor. read more

Collecting Used Cooking Oil ain't easy but man when you can patronize a client and have the best drinks made in front of your face and watch the kitchen put out some of the best food in Travelers Rest! We got the 3 for $65 special and our small plate of Eggplant with Mushrooms and Brussels they grow on their private farm... What?? Oh my it was sooo good. We were mesmerized by Kollins mastery of the bar and his drinks were on point and original. They had live JAzZ playing and just had the best atmosphere. So proud to service their account. read more

I've heard people rave about Topsoil, but I hadn't made it out to TR to try it until this past weekend for a little bday celebration. The menu definitely pressures you to go for the 3 course meal deal, which we figured we would avoid since we didn't need that much food, but it turns out our bill would've been cheaper had we gone that route. We tried the Duck Cavatelli and Brasstown Beef. Both small plates, but the taste and presentation were wonderful. We split the Hummus app, which has whipped ricotta in the middle - 10/10. The bread was also super fresh. We also tried their version of an espresso martini and it was the perfect pick-me-up. I'd love to go back, but definitely more of a special occasion spot! read more

First and foremost the atmosphere and vibe are awesome. All else being equal it went down from there. We tried the five course Sunday dinner. To be clear it is NOT in my opinion a five course dinner, but rather a five course "tasting event" I've been fortunate to dine in many fine dining restaurants, this is what I consider "a wannabe. The sign of an outstanding chef are their unique sauces, which were absolutely on spot. Great job chef! It was not hard to get the point that most of the proteins were precooked and kept in a warmer. My reasoning is nothing was hot, just barely warm...... We shared one wine tasting and was only impressed with a next to last wine (you only get a 3 ounce pour. I asked for a bit more and was schooled by this woman on how wine tasting are about. As for the portions after spending just under $300 for two people we stopped at Publix the get a half sub in the way home. As for farm to table is the was a handful of vegetables (which were great) I would say this is a very generous description. It's not like it's expensive for great food, but we felt violated so to speak. We will not be back and absolutely don't recommend. Other than the young lady that filled out water the manager/woman thinks a whole lot of herself. Save your money!!!! read more

We live in TR and four of our friends from Hilton Head Island visited for a long weekend in September. We decided to take our guests to the restaurant. The food was good but nothing great. We did not have a problem with the prices which was a set price of $65+++ per person if I remember correctly. When the check came I noticed that they charged us .50c for olives in our martinis. Not blue cheese olives, just regular olives which we like. Believe me Topsoil is just a normal restaurant for us and we were not trying to get anything for free. I mentioned to our waiter that "never in our life have we ever been charged for olives in a martini at any restaurant at any star level". His reply was that "these are Spanish Olives". We informed him that is where most olives come from and that olives are part of a martini. We were up charged for our premium vodka but that is to be expected. The real insult is that the manager stopped us as we were leaving the restaurant and asked if we wanted out .50c back. I told her that "she totally missed the point and that it was not about the money". I was trying to do them a favor but she was not smart enough to realize that. I told her that "she could keep the money and that we would not be back". Their loss but maybe their business is so good that it does not matter to them. read more

Writing in reference to the brunch as I expect a dinner menu is more into their wheelhouse. It was just extraordinarily underwhelming. The food was dry and in many cases bland. There were definite signs of well made sauces that were delicious but they were used sparingly to the point of being nonexistent in the majority of the dish. The atmosphere and staff are great but you are going to spend a lot without a compatible tasting experience. read more
