Lots of tap options for beer So our food ...all of us ordered a fish dish. Two of us ordered the special-- Halibut.. so it was good tasting but overcooked and thus dry. Both plates. Certainly disappointing for the price. Our friends salmon was similar as she gave us a taste but-- she liked it. Our dessert. My wife and I dined at Vista during the World Cup. Vista is essentially a high end bar with a touch of a sports bar element with a handful of TVs showing the match. The food was fine, but nothing too memorable aside from very small portions. For example, i had the steak medallions entree. 3 small pieces of steak that were well prepared and was accompanied with about 4 forkfuls of mashed potatoes and 8-10 green beans. Kid size meal. Welp, we've been trying to get to this spot for some time. We ordered take out meal a few months ago and it was pretty good. However I'm sad to say our visit last night didn't go as well. The atmosphere and service were excellent and our server Emily did a good job making sure we had everything we needed. Our issue was with the food and drinks. There were six in our party. My husband and I had dinner with our sons and their significant others. My son and his girl ordered drinks but returned them because they didn't like the taste. (We aren't those people who send everything back...we very rarely do that). I ordered the chopped salad with blackened salmon. My salad came out with rolled slices of hame and turkey (which I removed) and the salmon was just cooked hard...almost bunt (that wasn't what I meant by blackened...but whatever) And for the salad to be nearly $40 bucks...I just don't think it was worth it. Husband ordered meatloaf with mashed potatoes and he gave it a 5 out of 10, my oldest son ordered a $60 steak...he said it wasn't bad but definitely wasn't worth $60 he gave it a 4.6 out of 10. His girl ordered the gnocchi and sent it back and then ordered the salmon. She gave the gnocchi a 3.7 out of 10 and gave the salmon an 8. My youngest son ordered the salmon and have it a 6 and his girl who is on an alkaline diet ordered Caesar salad and said it was just ok I don't know if it was just a one off type of night or not. I've eaten at other Rick Erwin restaurants and haven't had any bad experiences. I'm willing to give them another try because after all...it's Rick Erwin...and I'm hoping to have a better experience with our meals. read more

My husband and I enjoyed an early dinner on Valentine's Day at The Vista in Greenville SC. We had a reservation and was greeted immediately. We were seated at a small table. We ordered tuna nachos for appetizer. For entrees, hubby ordered baby back ribs, crispy Brussel sprouts and cornbread. I got shrimp gnocchi. Half sweet, half up tea to drink. Let me say tuna nachos outstanding just wish portion size was a tad more. My husband and both agreed the food was delicious. We will definitely be returning on our next visit to Greenville. Really enjoyed the Vista - newest spot by Rick Erwin, very nice decor and service. However I'd say Rick Erwin's west end is a bit better than this. The standout was the cocktails - they had some VERY good and creative cocktails. Every one that our group tried was awesome. My crab cakes were very good. The bread appetizer was a bit bland and seemed slightly undercooked. The food was solid for the most part, but next time I'd probably do some apps and drinks. read more

An excellent restaurant owned by Rick Erwin who obviously knows how to run a fine dining establishment. We ate dinner with some friends and enjoyed the total experience tremendously. Our Waitress was attentive, stopping by occasionally after all our orders were placed and delivered... She also had a sense of humor, setting us all at ease as we stayed for more than four hours. We left her multiple nice tips. I'm skipping around here, but the last thing we ordered was an extra bottle of Chardonnay. I left her a 30% tip on that bottle, and as the bill was being picked up, my wife asked her to let her modify that tip to about 100%... LOL... The service was definitely worth that level of appreciation. We started off with a couple of bottles of wine, followed by two appetizers. Our friends ordered the crisp Brussels Sprouts, and we picked the AhI Tuna. Both were as good as you could expect. The Tuna was quite impressive and would have made any chef proud. We followed with an order of crab cakes, two orders of scollops, followed by my spare rib plate. All were great. The crab cakes reportedly were filled with crab meat and delicious. My chunk of cow was perfect with a base of mashed potatoes - note that I requested those rather than the normal base of grits... also included were some crispy onions. I'm not certain why, but grits didn't seem to fit the bill tonight. I appreciate their ability to adapt to my whims. I have to say that the scollops seemed to take the award for best dish of the night. They were not on the menu - i.e. were a special item for the night... and corn was involved... toasted, I believe. There was a fried peach tossed into the mix. My wife, who loved scollops said that this was a very light, tasteful, and impressive combination. One of the best scollop meals she has had. I have to admit that I was in awe of that plate. As usual, I should have followed my general rule of ordering whatever she picked. About mid meal, Rick Erwin himself stopped by our table to see if all was proceeding to our liking... which was indeed the case. We talked a bit with him about reopening Nantucket Seafood... We are waiting for that with great expectations. The guys picked a couple of beers, while the ladies ordered an additional bottle of Chardonnay as we caught up with each other... all the while our waitress continued to check up on us. My friend got the ribs and they were dry so he only ate half of the order. The wine list is mediocre at best. On the positive side my wife and her friend both got the salmon and loved it. Came in the back porch door (facing Augusta) thinking it was the front. Biggest complaint was the drink service. Cocktails took forever (~20 min), presumably because they only had 1 bartender (according to our server, 2nd bartender called in sick). Come on! It's a Saturday evening, and you are a prominent local restaurant group. Are you telling me you don't have 2nd and 3rd string bartenders in standby in these eventualities? My companion and I decided to try this restaurant since it's not far from where we live and because it had overall good reviews. The vast majority of our experience was wonderful, and you'll find the explanation for the score at the end. We were greeted promptly and graciously by hostess Roberta. We had reservations at 7:45p but arrived before 7p, anticipating having a cocktail or two at the bar. Roberta invited us to grab a spot at the bar and told us she would find us and bring us to our table when it became available. The bar was standing room only, and getting any of the three bartenders' attention was a Herculean effort. When we were finally noticed, the gal said that if we were dining, the preferred protocol was to be seated and have our waitress to bring us drinks. We explained that we had 45 minutes to kill before being seated and would like to have a cocktail or 2 first, so she relented. It wasn't the protocol we objected to, but rather her snippy delivery. We got quite a bit more attitude from her upon drink delivery, and her unfriendliness was reflected in her tip. Fortunately, we were seated much sooner than our 45 minute wait. Our waitress was prompt, friendly, attentive and efficient. Since we had never dined here before, she asked us questions then gave descriptions of some of the house-favorite meals and was generally helpful, steering us toward items we might enjoy based on our conversation. After a bit of back-and-forth dialogue (we changed our minds 3-4x), we ultimately decided to split the tuna nachos as an appetizer and split the crab cakes as an entrée. Both dishes were excellent! The tuna was fresh, the nacho chips seemed homemade, there was a brief, spicy flash (possibly tiny diced bits of fresh jalapeño?) and a luscious layered chipotle ranch drizzle on the app. The crabcakes were superb, possibly the best I've ever eaten. There was minimal binder (non-crab filler stuff like bread crumbs or mayonnaise)... I honestly couldn't determine what held all of that lump crab together. The flavor was meaty but delicate. The kitchen was gracious enough to split the entrée for us, so each crabcake was in its own dish on a bed of lovely, warm brussels sprout slaw that had sunflower seeds and other tasty bits mixed in. We were both thrilled with our choices. There was a bit of a lag between our appetizer and our entrée, which was somewhat expected because it was a very busy Friday night. At separate times, our table was visited by both Rick Erwin himself and by a pleasant lady (? front house manager... we did not get her name) who appeared genuinely concerned that we were enjoying our dining experience. The lady manager explained that some of the kitchen staff was new, apologized for the wait and told us she hoped we'd come back and "give them another try." We assured her that we would. The atmosphere of the restaurant was classy-casual, and the place is tastefully decorated. As the swell of the dinner crowd intensified, it was surprisingly noisy and difficult to have a conversation at our small table. However, the people-watching was amusing and worth the price of admission: lots of Augusta Road "beautiful people" rubbing elbows, seeing and being seen. After our lovely meal, we didn't really have room for dessert and paid our check. As we were leaving, I remembered seeing a review that mentioned their espresso martini was out of this world, so we decided to plunk down at the bar and have an after-dinner drink. At this point, over 50% of the barstools were empty. There were still 3 bartenders, but we waited what felt like an eternity and no one greeted us or made eye contact. The more we waited, the more we decided that there are too many restaurants in this town to put up with bad bar service, and we left. I'd like to review this venue as a 4.5-5, but all the points off come due the bar staff. Sure, they were busy, but they were not friendly, not helpful and not focused on customer service. read more

Let's just say the cornbread was as dry as the dessert. Then we get are bbq nachos and it taste like cat piss. Also the cheese is not nacho cheese it's Mac and cheese. Visited on Saturday 25 Nov 2023 for the very first time, dinner party of six, and four of us had never been there before. 4.5 out of 5 stars (no place is perfect), but this was a very pleasant surprise as I usually do not like trendy 'chef-themed' places. The staff was great, the food was not over-seasoned yet flavorful, the dessert was shareable, the main portions were just right, and the place was clean! I live more than an hour away, and have already told our local hosts that this is very much on the 'keepers' list whenver I'm back in Greenville. Then the drinks didn't arrive for several more minutes. Timing was off. Food was great, as usual!! Loved the Brussel sprout app. She crab soup was good, but barely warm. My boyfriend ordered the meatloaf and like always, loved it. Server came to collect payment before we were ready, but she was ready to clear us out. I haven't written a review in a while, but our visit to The Vista last night required one. Reservations - made via Open Table, smooth and accurate. No problem when we arrived. First visit, so taking in the atmosphere took a bit. Comfortable and relaxing. None of the staff seemed too stressed. My wife and I were headed to the Broadway show at the Peace Center, so we were dressed slightly above the average customer. Things went UP from there. Our first encounter with our server, Larry, was just about perfect. She has a real name, something like Larissa, which was shortened to Larry. "Is this your first time here?" - Yes, lead to a detailed explanation of the menu. Special that night was roasted Red Fish, not my favorite, but more later since my wife ordered (and sucked it down like a Hoover vacuum). When I see Meatloaf on the menu, it is usually my go to. My theory is that if your meatloaf is good, the rest of the menu will be also. My other gauge is a club sandwich. If it sucks, I am not coming back. Unfortunately, I had decided on something a little lighter for meal. Then, Larry informs us that the meatloaf was both her and her husbands favorite. But then she followed up with "but if the redfish is on the menu, she prefers that". I enquired about a chicken dish from the Rotisserie section. Her description was so detailed that I was able to eliminate that one. I asked about the jalapeno sauce that came with the roasted salmon. She said it was a 3 out of 10 on her scale. Three is about my limit, but she said they were happy to put it on the side. Sold! My wife had a glass of one of the white wines and I had a non-alcoholic beer. Thanks, Rick, for including those of us that love beer, but cannot have the alcohol for medical reasons. They had two selections of Athletic, which is what I keep stocked in my house. I'm guessing the Redfish was good as wife never offered me a taste (it's not my favorite seafood and she knows that. It disappeared pretty quickly. My salmon was cooked perfectly. Larry told me the chef cooked it medium, but i like it just a tad over medium - uniform color in the middle. Larry asked if the sauce was ok for me, but I told her that the salmon was so good, I barely touched it. It was just the right size for my appetite for the evening and the fingerling potatoes were firm. I don't like when they are overcooked and mushy. My bill just went over $80 and since it was date and theater night with the wife, it was about average for us. We will go back, but there are so many food options in the area, it's hard not to try them all. We don't live in that area, so it is a 20 mile trip for us. Again, back to our server, Larry, you did a great job. I hope Rick reads this. And tell your husband, cardiology is the more lucrative, but the urologists have better jokes. Steve read more

Underwhelming at best. Nice restaurant and nice service. We sat in a round booth near the kitchen serving window. I looked at a lot of food leaving the kitchen and it all looked great. Unfortunately, when we got our three meals they were just so-so. First my wife ordered the French Dip sandwich and it and the French fries served with it were stone cold. Cold where you could not eat it. They gladly took it back and we asked them not to replace it. Had it been hot it looks like it might have been a pretty good French Dip. I had the Chicken Pot Pie and it was just so-so. Cooked perfectly but very bland as in very little taste. My wife and I shared that as her sandwich was uneatable and sent back. Our friend got the Pan Roasted Salmon ($30) and again, it was just so-so and also very bland. To make up for my wife's cold sandwich meal they gave us a free desert which we all shared. It was an apple tart kind of thing and was served in a cast iron skillet (same as my pot pie). It was good and we enjoyed it but it was nothing to write home about. Overall, the ambiance is nice, and very loud around 7:30 PM but the food was bland, underwhelming and not great. For me the value was just not there. read more

The only reason I am giving the two stars is for the drinks.. they were amazing. It was my 5 yr anniversary a milestone for us as couple.. my partner made the effort of carefully planning out our dinner and rest of our night and he always picks restaurants we have never been to. We reserved a table on the patio hoping for heaters (and because it was the only available reservation before 7) and we were so thankful that there were heaters.. we had to ask twice for them to be turned on.. when they were turned on they provided no heat whatsoever and the table next to us moved their table closer towards the heat along with us and we all ate in our coats. We ordered drinks and the cornbread appetizer. The appetizer came out first but we had no plates and no silverware so we had to sit there for a while, while it got cold before we given plates and silverware. I bet it is tasty when it's warm. After we finished the appetizer we moved the used dish and the appetizer plates to the edge of the table to be taken away but they stayed there throughout the whole meal... He liked his beer I liked my mocktail. I ordered the French dip and he ordered salmon with jalepeno Tartar sauce and ordered a Side salad. The salad saved the salmon canned it at the same time. The au jus was bland and tasted like water with a hint of beef broth.. the meat was also bland and unseasoned. The fries were seasoned perfectly. My partner and I made a joke that that's where all the flavor was. The salmon was plain and we relied on the condiment tartar sauce for any resemblance of flavor. At one point our water said " its getting pretty brisk out here I'm guessing you guys don't want dessert" WHAT?? I ordered a drink and we asked for the check. It took so long to to get the drink and the check that I forgot I even ordered another drink.. our waiter said the bar got "smacked". He asked about our dinner, we were honest. He did serve us some chocolate truffles but forgot to bring a pen back with him for us to sign the check so we had to wait another 10 minutes to check out so we could leave on to our next planned event... I feel like we paid $90 for a $30 meal...I was really excited about going here and I was disappointed from the moment I sat down. read more

My friends and I came here last night for our Christmas dinner and left a little puzzled. We like trying all the new restaurants Greenville has to offer and this was the choice tonight. Let me just start by saying the service, the ambiance, and the drinks were fantastic! However the portions to price ratio and presentation was seriously lacking. I wish now I had taken a picture to post because my lack of broccolini left our table giggling. I ordered the flank steak and substituted the fries (which for $30 a little shocked it comes with fries, and flank steak at that) for the broccolini and received one stalk. One. It even looked silly sitting there all by itself. My friend had the $58 special which was the ribeye and 3 onion rings (they were very specific). He said it was good, but again not $58 good. They were however very kind with a free dessert as it's my birthday next week. So pros and cons all around but I'm all about bang for buck and it sadly wasn't there. read more

This is a very new restaurant. The service was fine. The ambiance was pretty good. The food was the problem. Out of the 6 dishes our group ordered only the soup was excellent. The rest of the dishes were in the acceptable to very poor to can't eat. The flank steak was cut thick so it was very tough even though it was medium rare. The garlic knots were missing salt and garlic. The French fry sides were good. The salads were average. I doubt we will return. I have been to three different Rick Erwin restaurants. I don't think I'll try another. None have been worth a return trip. read more
