A Place to Eat Near Greenville, SC That Actually Delivers I almost didn't write this review. Selfish, I know. When you find a restaurant this good, the instinct is to keep it quiet, save it for yourself, and casually "forget" to mention it when someone asks where to eat near Greenville or Travelers Rest. But that would be unfair. If you're looking for an upscale restaurant near Greenville, SC that actually lives up to the setting, Core 450 is worth your time. The Food The Cast-Iron Brussels converted me. I've spent years politely pushing Brussels sprouts around a plate, and these stopped me cold. Deeply caramelized, crisp at the edges, tender inside. The applewood bacon brings real smoke and salt, not just garnish energy, and the Manchego adds a creamy depth that ties it together. It feels intentional. It tastes like a kitchen that knows what it's doing. The Nordic Pappardelle is the dish you end up talking about later. Black garlic, smoked butter, birch vinegar, foraged mushrooms, charred leeks. It sounds like a risk. It isn't. It lands somewhere between modern and timeless, and it works. The Maple Bourbon Salmon might be the freshest I've had in the Greenville area. The balance is dialed in. Nothing overpowers. It just comes together the way you wish more dishes would. The Experience And then there's the setting. You're looking out over the golf course with mountain views in the distance, especially at golden hour, and it shifts the whole experience. This is a date night spot. A place for a slower dinner. Something a little more intentional than your average night out in Travelers Rest. The Cocktails The cocktails deserve their own mention. The Lavender Lemonade looks simple, but it's not. We love this place for so many reasons, but to keep it short and sweet, the steak here is FIRE. It's so fatty, juicy, and flavorful. They serve it to you on a hot salt block and you can cook it to whatever you want. I would personally recommend the ribeye steak. The kids meals are in fact kids meals. Nothing unique about them. Burgers, chicken nuggets, the usual. The mac n cheese here is SO GOOD here too! They are little spiral noodles with creamy cheese sauce and panko crumbs. (Don't worry, it's homemade, not Kraft!) The service can be a little bit spotty sometimes. For example, we got a cookie pie thing and we received it raw. We sent it back to be cooked again, and we got it again raw. We sent it back again and third time and it was given to us overcooked and burnt. Yes. I get it. It was late at night and you wanted to go back home and relax. I'm sorry. It's just a cookie pie, though. Overall we love this place though, and the ambiance and atmosphere is pretty and relaxing at times! read more

Although the place is very nice to look at, it was very high priced with a limited menu. There were five of us celebrating, We ordered steaks and drinks with an appetizer to share. The food was slow coming out as were the drinks. Then we were told that they ran out of the steaks we had all ordered. So we had to rethink what to order. The food finally came out amidst the confusion. I was not impressed for the money. Dessert was the same. We ordered. They ran out of the brownies. Only two other items on the dessert menu. On the third cocktail, Mine didn't come out until after the check came! I had to slam that because we had been there for two and a half hours and everyone was ready to go. I spent $500 on that meal. Food was tasty. We tried two small plates: the CrispyBrussels sprouts and the Fried Green Tomatoes. And for entree the Chilean Sea Bass. All were good. Don't think I'll get the fried tomatoes again but the other two were excellent. The atmosphere was bright with lots of windows and green space outside. Set at a golf course Service was excellent. Our glasses were kept filled. And as we left everyone from the cooks to the maitre de smiled and greeted us with a "have a great rest of your night". I ordered Sea Bass and they FRIED it. The size of the portion was incredibly small as were all the dinners except the steaks. Steaks were great but unbelievably expensive. We ordered a scallop appetizer to share. It was 3 medium scallops for $22. When we ordered a cocktail or glass of wine it took over 20 mins to receive it. There was no menus or silverware on the table when we arrived and were sat at our table. We had to ask for every thing all evening. No bread plates, no tablecloths, salt and pepper, etc. There was a local person who lived in the golf course community there when we arrived, "Good Food" "Small Portions" "Bad Service" "Expensive" is what she told us. What a delightful and delicious gem of a restaurant! I'm not a county club, golf course type of gal, but you don't have to be to enjoy Core 450. We have had great servers every time and I really like the setup of this place! I watched the chef make our pizza from a distance and got all the feels watching it go into the brick oven! What can I say? I love food okay. We loved our Godfather pizza, Pimento Burger and Monte Cristo sandwich. The fries were really good too! We have only been for lunch a couple times, but I'm so looking forward to dinner here soon! read more

Great spit to visit. Calming and definitely not a 19th hole. We love doing Sunday brunch but visited for my wife's bday for dinner. She is def not an imbiber but really enjoyed the special Strawberry prosecco that was made for her. Y OG Old Fashion was delish. She had the Mommas Manicotti and I had the Crispy Beef Retolo. First time visit tonight and Core 450 did not disappoint! The ambiance was pleasant, the server was attentive, and most importantly (in my opinion), the food was delicious! I didn't eat anything that wasn't fantastic - from the Brussels sprouts appetizer to my salmon and my date's braised beef rib, which of course I sampled This is what we would call a "date place" and you should expect to drop at minimum $30 per meal, plus any salads, appetizers, drinks, and tip. But for a special night out, this is a great option and one I would highly recommend! read more

Initial service good. Server poured water and $54 bottle of wine. No repeat pours of either. Had to go to bar for more water. Food was delicious. No prices of meats or pasta on menu sections - why? Things I liked were the great views, friendly service, and clean comfortable seating. My drink was lacking alcohol...definitely a weak drink. Brunch was ok, the grand marnier was undetectable in the French toast, which was also kinda dry. My husband has eggs Benedict which was served on a biscuit which made it messier too eat than the traditional English muffin. The food Saturday night was spectacular. The steak au poivre was fantastic. 5 star meal served with baked carrots and loaded mashed potatoes. Started with spicy shrimp and for dessert, we shared the sweet potato crepe which was unbelievably delicious and the cast iron cookie with vanilla ice cream. We've been here multiple times and have had better than average experience. However last night was awful. And the problem is in the kitchen. 1st - the wedge salad had zero dressing. Just 3 wedges with crumbled blue cheese and some bacon. It was dry. 2nd - there were 4 of us. 2 of us got our food timely. The third person got his nearly 15 minutes afterwards; and the fourth in our group got hers 25 minutes afterwards. 3rd - we ordered the BiG Mac pizza. It's an 18" Large pie. It had less meat on it than an actual Big Mac does. Flavor was good but for $38 there should be a lot more meat. 4th and final - we split the check 2 ways. our Portion had 1 cocktail on it. The pizza, a salad, a shared app and a small steak on it $170 for just the 2 of us. It's too much money. The manager did come see our table and apologized after the food for our friend was so delayed, but after she did so it still took 10 minutes to get the final meal in our group. No complaints with our server. These issues were not her fault. read more

My husband and I just bought land in Cherokee Valley and decided to try Core 450 and we are so glad we did. The food was absolutely delicious. We split the Pimento Burger and ow. It was terrific. I am not sure how I have went this long without having Core 450 in my life! I was completely blown away by everything this place had to offer. From the amazing views of the golf course with the mountains as the back drop, the elegance of the restaurant to the wonderful server and the delicious food, this place really has it all! Everything sounded great on the menu and I wanted to try everything. Well surprise surprise, you can pretty much do that! The server advised us of the chef's board and I what an awesome experience we had! I like my steak medium rare while everyone else wanted theirs medium to medium well and they brought out a melt in your mouth 60oz tomahawk steak medium rare and provided a hot salt block so the rest of the table could cook their steak more (yes I know it's heartbreaking). It came with a family size bowl of risotto, Gouda crab Mac and cheese, fried brussel sprouts and a juicy filet of fish. After our meal, they brought out a cast iron skillet with a baked cookie covered in ice cream and it was as delicious as it sounds. Everything was incredible and I would highly recommend this restaurant for the foodies out there wanting a fine dining experience with southern hospitality, delicious food and beautiful scenery! My husband and I went there for a date night. Ambience was great, sat outside right next to the golf course. Sunset was absolutely gorgeous. But the food was very much bleh. The focaccia doesn't have any herbs in it, texture and flavor were more like a sourdough rather than focaccia, could have made it into a bruschetta appetizer, that would have been better. Love the bread flavor but definitely not focaccia. It was served with just olive oil. We asked for some balsamic vinegar then it became enjoyable. I didn't even bother to take a photo of the rest, we ordered a seared tuna, a hanger steak and a poached pear salad to share. Tuna was supposed to be crusted with horseradish and panko, unfortunately I could only tasted the panko, when it was served it was cold, in my experience seared tuna should be warm not cold, and when seared perfectly 1/3 is cooked leaving the center 2/3 raw but warm, the side broccolini was tasty but it was paired with baby portobello mushroom but shiitake. The highlight was the potato wedge, very tasty, crispy yet potatoey, tasted like they were fried in tallow instead of seed oil. Yum!!! Wish the dish came with more of that. We asked for a medium rare steak, but it sooo blue it could walk off the plate, leaving a gamy aftertaste. Not great. Poached pear salad was paired with poached cherry, have to say didn't like the combo for my personal taste, it just threw the balance off, maybe some fresh orange would've been a better choice, just to balance the sweetness of the pair with some zesty fresh tangy orange. Just a thought. I had poached pear arugula salad with Gorgonzola cheese before in another restaurant, thoroughly enjoyed that one. Overall, ambience was great, beautiful and I get to see squirrels running around. Food somehow ruined the whole experience. Wish they could care more about the true hero of the business(the food!!!) a bit more. read more

Went there for my birthday and it was excellent. We ordered the filet, A5 wagyu and the clam pasta. The clams didn't come in so chef substituted for scallops and lobster. Win! The A5 Wagyu was basically the best steak I've had to date (Hall's was best before this). Filet was very very good. Service was terrific though we were in there on a Tuesday night so it was slow. We went there for Sunday lunch one day thinking they would be serving Sunday lunch from the time they opened until they time they close at 4 PM. However, we got there about 1:15 PM just to find out they don't actually start serving lunch until 2 PM so our only choices were very very limited and what we chose was not good at all. Also, they do not have a handicap ramp so you have to walk up a long set of stairs so for someone who is elderly or handicap would be almost impossible for them to get in. I do not recommend this restaurant which really is not anything more than the clubhouse for the golf course. read more

Tried the salmon with wagyu fries. The salmon had great flavor and was cooked perfectly. The wagyu fries were the best fries I've ever had. My parents got steak medium and it was overcooked almost well done but still had great flavor. Our waitress was very attentive and made some great suggestions. We love the vibes of the restaurant too, you can watch them cook everything from the dining room or they have outdoor seating for warm nights with a little fire pit. Also aside from the restaurant their golf course is top tier for a public course. Would highly recommend it all and we'd be back to try more food soon. read more

Nice view with lots of windows overlooking the golf course. First of all I must say the food was beautifully presented and everything looked great. However, they didn't have a good choice for someone who is gluten free. I ended up having the duck which was delicious but had to give the wonton part of it to my husband. Honestly, really yummy and totally worth the 40 minute drive. It's in a really nice neighborhood but you don't have to be a club member or anything to go. It over looks the stunning Cherokee valley golf course, so if the weather is nice, I recommend getting a table outside. The only reason I'm knocking a star off is because, when I ordered the shrimp and grits, it clearly said 'poached lobster' under the description. I was totally expecting a little clump of poached lobster meat on top, or in the dish anywhere, but it was nonexistent... And under the Portuguese calamari description it said 'caramelized onions', I know what a caramelized onion is, and I know what a sautéed onion is. THIS WAS A SAUTÉED ONION. (STILL GOOD! I just think it's a little misleading to write CARAMELIZED, when it's slightly sautéed in a tomato sauce.) it was still REALLY delish, I kinda wanted the poached lobster and caramelized onions, lol. This is a review for party of 8 for dinner with reservations through Open Table. We arrived on time and were seated at a long high table that could accommodate 12. The restaurant has a variety of seating including indoor, outdoor, high tables, lower tables, booths, and bar seating looking into the kitchen. The ambiance is new, modern, with fantastic views out large windows. Our order including pizza, salmon, shrimp and grits, and fried chicken. The food came out as it was ready which was no big deal. There was a mix-up on the salmon order which was taken care of by a free dessert. One salmon was delivered to the table and a fly immediately landed in the sauce causing it to walk around the dish. When the server was asked to remove the fly she searched for a napkin and scooped it from the dish and replied she was sorry. When our waitress returned we disclosed the fly episode. The meals were small so but the pizza filled us up. Overall the group said the food was good but had mixed reviews on the experience. We may return for drinks and appetizers instead of expecting a full dinner. read more

First experience at this new restaurant was terrible. Played golf in the morning and our group went in for lunch after the round. There were 6 employees in there, and 5 other customers total. Nobody asked us if we needed help, we went up to the bar and none of the employees were willing to take our beer or food order. I watched one employee cut 5 tomatos instead of thinking to help customers who were looking to put in a food order. We decided to leave, and on the way out someone shouted from behind the bar asking us if we needed anything. At that point we did not.
