We had…read moreseen the King of Queens episode of when they stayed in a bed & breakfast and it made us a bit hesitant on selecting to stay in one! Boy were we wrong though. This place was fantastic to stay in. I was unsure what room to book and where any of them were located, so I chose the Cedar Room. Pulling up to this place, you can already tell that it's going to have that "homey" like setup to it. We checked in a little bit later than expected (you have a 3pm to 6pm window). We walked in through the guest entrance and were greeted and toured around the common area. You get complimentary coffee, pop, cookies and other snacks in the common room kitchen area. The Cedar Room, where we were staying, was right next to the entrance where guests were coming and going every so often. I wasn't aware of that and might not select that room in the future because of the feeling that everyone can hear you that are nearby. Sleeping through the night was a little bit tough too in this room depending on the type of people above you. When people walk above you or use their bathroom, you can clearly hear it. The bed was so comfy though and the privacy shades made it so dark in the room, that we were able to fall back asleep pretty quickly. The breakfast part of this adventure, was absolutely amazing. Phil and Marci really know how to cook and prepare a mean breakfast! The two mornings that we were able to have breakfast, we had some great spreads! Day 1: -Mini blueberry, strawberry, granola, vanilla yogurt parfait -Quiche (egg, green pepper, onion, potato) -Bacon -Very soft bread with herb butter -Orange Juice Day 2: -Watermelon and kiwi fruit cup -Croissant with cherry jam -Quiche (egg, spinach) -Scalloped potatoes -Cherries -Sausage -Orange Juice Talk about a great way to start your day huh? They also had a great brew of coffee going and other k-cups available. It was hard to check out, that was for sure. It was a nice home away from home. Thank you Phil, Marci and team for the hospitality and comfort for a great weekend where we celebrated a friend's wedding!

I also liked that each room came with a fridge, a BBQ set (there is a communal grill on property), and some board games. There was also a communal hot tub but we didn't make use of that given how hot it was. We also liked the outdoor deck we had right outside our room, where we could relax and eat breakfast (but note it is shared with the neighbor next to you). I do wish that the breakfast had some sort of eggs rather than all carbs (we had a lot of sweets and carbs for ours), better coffee, and that the coffee was available earlier in the morning. (Breakfast and coffee came at 9am but there was no communal coffee earlier than 9am. I did like that later in the day they leave out coffee and madeleines cookies). We also found the room very crammed. You couldn't open the door without hitting the table chairs and there really wasn't much space in the room for anything besides the bed and table (not much walking or lounge space in between, so we felt a little claustrophobic). Although some toiletries were available (travel size lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and mouth wash), there was no shower gel and the travel size lotion, shampoo, and conditioner were all old and half empty, suggesting they were there from prior guests. The cleaners also didn't clean out the coffee maker. For price, it was $1048 for two nights in one small room. Over all, the B&B was very cute and the owners very friendly but ultimately we probably wouldn't return given the above. And if we did, we would see if bigger suites/rooms with more space was available.

Everyday we had freshly baked treats that tasted amazing. The room was clean and and safe for our four year-old to play with his trains. It was conveniently located by a small park to swim and a winery. Very scenic, the water that surrounded the lodge was beautiful. We even made a book about our trip. Thank you for hosting us. Would definitely come back!

It's also located in a scenic spot -- beautiful Omena Bay is right down the hill. The lodge itself is comprised of several historic buildings. When we stay here we prefer a room in the Wheeler House, the main house that's also the inkeepers' residence; the second floor is home to four very nicely appointed guest rooms, each with a private bath. The dining room and sitting rooms are on the first floor; guests can enjoy a crackling wood fire in the fireplace, play the piano or just sit and read in the front rooms. Another house on property also has guest rooms, we believe, while a third house is divided into suites. There's also a game/activity building with its own fireplace and kitchenette. The hosts are friendly and helpful, and are excellent cooks -- we love the breakfasts! They're also very knowledgeable about the area, and about the history of their establishment. We really enjoy them. Omena, between Suttons Bay and Northport, is in the northern section of the Leelanau Peninsula but still makes a good, convenient base camp for exploring the rest of the area. We would definitely recommend Sunset Lodge for couples as well as for groups. After driving down "motel row" in nearby Traverse City, we were even more convinced that mom-and-pop lodging is the way to go up here, and that we have found a real travelers' gem in Sunset Lodge.

Absolutely amazing. A beautiful spacious apartment, with three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. It easily slept the six of us and we did not feel the least bit over crowded. As there was a group of us the price really was pretty reasonable for the weekend. While family friendly, it could be a bit pricey. The kitchen comes with everything you need from dinner ware to dish soap. There is a large grill on the private porch besides the stove top and oven. Two fireplaces (one is gas and the other you have to light for which they provide all needed materials). There are two flat screen TVs in the main rooms, another in the master bedroom and a small one in the bunk room. The shower in the master bath is huge and there is also a separate large tub. The best part is the large porch that overlooks the beach and Lake Michigan. It wraps around the side around to the back. the view of the lake and Sleeping Bear Dunes is beautiful. The resort also has a gym, outdoor pool and hot tub. Blu, a restaurant I highly recommend, is attached. There is also free wifi (they provide a password). The staff was also amazing, expect to be treated like an honored guest. They take care if anything you might need, even marsh mellows. The only slightly negative thing is that Lebear is a bit off on its own in Glen Arbor. The wineries are about a half hour away which was reasonable. Glen Arbor is small but charming. There are several shops, a couple bars (try Art's Tavern) and a grocery store. The resort is a very short walk from the town.

There are all sorts of tiny details that make Lebear a special place, such as cucumber-ice water by the pool, cookies in the kitchen, and free and easy kayak use on site. The location is excellent. We have stayed at the Homestead in years past, but the Lebear location really sets it apart as it is a quick walk to the grocery stores, restaurants and shops in Glen Arbor. My only complaint is a minor one, and it's just that the bedroom situation is a little funky. In all three of the units I saw, the master bedroom was perfect, but the two smaller guest rooms left much to be desired. One of the bedrooms has a nice queen bed and bunk beds and the other has a double or queen-sized trundle bed. I would think to put the trundle bed in the room with the bunk beds (making it more of a "kids" room) and leave the nice queen-sized bed in its own room. Also, the hallway lighting outside of the two smaller guest rooms was extremely bright at night and made it very difficult to sleep.
