He immediately made me feel at ease as he listened attentively. Before my appointment, he went over everything on the phone and ensured that he had all the necessary documents before arriving at his office. Scott's professionalism and knowledge of taxes made me feel comfortable and trustworthy. I almost immediately gained his confidence. He completed my taxes in a reasonable amount of time, and I'm definitely going to use Modern Taxes again in the future.

I realize Scott has many five-star reviews...the most recent being from 2023...I don't know if…read moresomething has happened in the past few years, or if I just got the 'one bad apple' experience with him, but let me say, this experience has been super crappy. Scott was quick to set up one informational phone call, and with some prodding, getting back with a quote for taxes toward the end of 2025. He was, BTW, the only accountant from whom I obtained a quote who asked me to send documents via email, whereas everyone else had me send my documents via secure portal. When I wanted to meet in-person, we set an appt for late December, which we had to change to video (at my request b/c of family illness), and then, we were unable to do the video appt b/c his computer 'crashed.' So, another phone call...not great, especially when there were always sound issues, and I really wanted to meet with the person (or at least tele-meet) whomever was going to have their fingers in my pennies, but another phone call was to suffice. He was very informative and helpful, and we had a plan moving forward. I offered to pay for his time, which he said he would recoup later, when he did my taxes. By early Jan 2026, it was clear his firm was not going to do my company's bookkeeping (multiple emails confirm this point) b/c my current bank does not allow for third-party access, and I was to research my own payroll, as his company does not provide that service. However, there are multiple emails in Dec 2025 and Jan 2026 between us where 'follow up in spring 2026' is mentioned, where I say I want to utilize his services for taxes, and where he says his company would be 'happy to help' with my taxes. Fast forward to the third week in March 2026, I realize I haven't heard anything from him....I send up the smoke signal via email, and hear back today that 'business taxes were due last week' and that 'it's too late' for his firm to accept new clients. What the actual f*ck, dude? Even after sending previous emails, as above, he writes back they were to start bookkeeping for me in the spring (never true) and that I never followed up with sending him a final P & L statement (he never asked, in our Dec 2025 phone call or in any Dec 2025/Jan 2026 emails). He also said they can't hold spots for new clients from Jan to March. Of course, that makes sense...but not in light of our prior phone and email communications. He could've sent me an email, saying "I need your final P & L," if that's all he was waiting on...news flash--the phone and email work two ways. But, he never actually asked me for that document, or made clear he needed a different version from what I sent. Hard pass on any sort of recommendation, and I certainly won't ever consider using his services in the future. Honesty and integrity seem questionable, at least in this case.

I had an incredibly disappointing experience with this office. They claim to offer quick and easy…read moretax preparation, but in reality, it's riddled with hidden fees and deceptive practices. They offer so-called "services" that add unnecessary charges, but they don't let you review any contracts before signing. They are nothing more than common thieves. One of their main selling points is the "fast refund" with no interest or application fees, but this is far from the truth. They require you to add an additional service to take their inflated fee out of your tax return, and then they charge you a $42 fee for doing so--without ever properly explaining it upfront. I made the mistake of allowing them to add this "service," only to be told I couldn't receive the fast refund due to an issue with my credit score, which is 792. I'm convinced they don't actually make good on "fast refunds" and it's simply a scam to steal money from unwitting customers. When I confronted the manager, she rudely explained that the loan provider (guaranteed by both the IRS and their own H&R Block guarantee) requires you to pay for their unnecessary service so they can get away with advertising a $0 fee and 0% interest. This is all part of a scheme to swindle customers into paying a $42 junk fee for absolutely nothing. This experience has been frustrating and a complete waste of time and money. Do yourself a favor and avoid this office at all costs. In addition, the tax filing fees are very expensive. For this year alone, the total was nearly $500 for one federal tax preparation.
