So unfortunately, I just tried Torchy's for the second time. First time did not go well. They were brand new so I figured I would give them the benefit of the doubt. Order anything because out of their six sauces every single one has cilantro. I can't believe a restaurant that is a large chain, would not have a sauce for people that either cannot eat cilantro or are allergic to it. Eating this type of food is conducive to having a nice tasting sauce it's not even worth it to, have no sauce in my opinion. read more

Tacos are decent sized. (Not your normal street taco size). That being said, they're overpriced and lacking flavor. The bartender paid zero attention to us and was more interested in talking to her friend. read more

We were hoping this place would be similar to Taco Bomba, but we were wrong. Extremely salty and the tortillas seemed like they were heated in the microwave. However, the drinks (unsweetened tea and juice) were good. I think I'd go to Taco Bell over Torchy's. Sorry. read more

If you're not going to allow customers to sit at the bar unless they order at the bar, there should be signage to that effect. I waited in a long like to order at the registers- the only place I thought possible. And then when I grabbed a seat to wait for my food (and debate ordering a beer) I was promptly asked to leave. I'd have happily ordered at the bar had I known it was an option. Poor customer service, not to mention beer order lost. . read more

Fantastic tacos and great service! Thomas is terrific and made sure everything was good. I love these tacos. I have to drive an hour to get them-- well worth it! The price point is a little higher than the typical taco place, but the tacos are huge with a lot of meat, not just filling. Unusual and delicious combinations with fresh ingredients. Fun atmosphere too. My only disappointment is that there isn't a location closer to home. Check this place out if you like great food and friendly people. read more

As a native Texan, I was super excited to learn Torchy's was expanding to Virginia! I live in Richmond now, but have been to the Charlottesville location twice in the past week. Both times I have brought friends with me, and not gonna lie I was a little nervous that they wouldn't think it lived up to the hyped (because let's be real - I hyped it up a lot). I am glad to say everyone loved it. We had great service and the food and margs are as good as I remember. On our first visit the manager took a few minutes to talk to us and make sure we were having a good visit. Can't wait for the Richmond location to open! In the meantime, I'll be back whenever I'm passing through Cville. read more

Unfortunately I cannot recommend this business and people that ask me for food advice in town I do advise them to stay away from this location. The first time I ever tried food here my order was massively messed up because my waiter didn't understand the menu or enough English to communicate with me about what he was bringing me. I had to seek help from a person at the cash register to correct my order who seemed irritated at me. The waiter brought me someone else's order at one point who he then brought to the correct table to after I had it, which is gross. After that he brought me my incorrect order while telling me over and over yes it is right, but it wasn't. He mistakenly thought chicken was pork. I don't mind a small mess up but that was a headache and I didn't get compensated for the wasted time but I got to keep food I didn't want or ordered so there was that at least. I much rather have gotten a refund and no food honestly. That happened in June of this year. Then the second time I ate there my husband and I got food poisoning from this location too. I won't be back a third time. It's a shame because the menu looked good. read more

Great tacos! I recommend them all. I recommend trying their weekly special whenever you go. Their cocktails are great, and the food is consistent. First experience here! My friend and I walked in and were swept away on an adventure of sizzling taste buds. We got great recommendations on what to order, listened, and were transported to a cheesy nirvana in sangria paradise. Everything can be tweaked a little to land you in your comfort zone of flavor. Sometimes I'm hungry and annoyed which may color my experience. I tried Torchys after a sterling recommendation by someone on Twitter (as one does). The service, speed, accuracy of order were all excellent. I did not enjoy the food. I wish I did. I tried multiple tacos, the queso, street corn, and the fried chicken tenders. Kids loved the fried chicken. But the tacos didn't have the zing I was expecting. And by zing I mean the bite - too much meat or too much tortilla with little flavor. I'm pretty spoiled appreciator of the taco so I suspect it may just be me (one of my older children agreed with me but I encourage everyone to get their own taco to sort out their thoughts on the subject). The queso was good. The street corn was fine. Overall check it out if you're looking for good service and a quick taco with fun names. read more

I love the food of course, it's torchy's. But what separates this location is the people. Everybody starting from the top, Randall Floyd, has a great culture of being extremely courteous towards the customer and putting them first. This is how things are supposed to go but we all know this is rarely the case and not only do they do it with their actions but serve with a smile on their face and great attitude. I had never had the Torchy's experience before, and I was a bit nervous with all the hype surrounding its arrival in Charlottesville. Ultimately, I was not disappointed and can happily that I am a huge fan. An awesome selection of tacos sure to please all different palates, a fun place to sit at the bar and watch a game, and queso to dream about. My favorite tacos are the Green Chile Pork Missionary Style and the Brushfire. Two tacos was plenty to fill me up to satisfaction, but my favorite is really just filling up with the green chile queso. They have lots of margaritas and some beers on draught as well as a full bar. I do think they have some kinks to work out in terms of flow of ordering and getting the orders completely right, but I'd say they're doing pretty good for just opening. The line can get pretty long to order, but I think it's worth the wait. read more

This will be my go to spot whenever I go to Charlottesville. First, the restaurant itself was clean. The service was really good, but the food was a big stand out. I got the Trailer Park and the Salmon tacos and both were top notch. I have been to a lot of taco places and this is at the top. It also does not hurt that they have really good sweet tea. Overall, this was not a great experience for me. I spent $50 on a takeout order for my family of tacos, guacamole and the tip. The wait was longer than expected (about 22 minutes). It was busy, so that was somewhat understandable. When I brought the food home, the Fried Avocado taco was very good. However, the MoFaux taco was not good at all. I actually didn't finish it because it had a very odd taste. My wife ate her two tacos (a couple different styles of beef tacos) and she said that the first one was pretty good, but the second one was not great. Anyways, I debated about whether or not to come back again and I doubt I will since there are many other similar restaurants in town that have better consistency in terms of quality of their food. read more

I'm a huge fan of the original Austin, TX Torchy's, so I was pumped when we got our very own in Charlottesville! They just recently opened, so they have a few kinks to work out, which we will hopefully return and give better reviews when that happens. We got there early enough to enjoy happy hour, but of the 3 bartenders and only 1 other couple sitting at the bar, it took 10 minutes to grab someone's attention after making intense eye contact. Their excuse? "Shift change". After enjoying 2 rounds of margaritias (which were delicious by the way), it was time to pay up and move on to the food. Our check did not reflect happy hour, and it took another 10 minutes for it to be resolved. Stomachs growling, we got queso and 5 tacos between 2 of us. The queso with chorizo is awesome, always going to order that. The tacos, though, not as good as I remember. 3 of 5 were dry and tasteless. My favorite was the shrimp. The trashy taco was good, but MESSY with all the queso running down your hand! We'll try again in a few months hopefully. read more

Great little place to grab some a la carte tacos with a wide assortment to choose from. They also have other items like burritos, nachos, etc. Sizable bar with five or six big TVs for sports and a decent draft beer selection (seven or so to choose from). This place is great, for what it is, an indoor street taco joint and unlike Fuzzy's, their Hatch green chile is actually from Hatch. The guacamole and queso are both good and come in large portions. First time here for breakfast. The Migas and Ranchhand breakfast tacos were wonderful! Recommend them on corn tortillas -delicious! I cant neglect mentioning the service. The initial greeting and smile from the Counter employee was happy and efficient. Small mixup with the delivered order was quickly and graciously corrected. The tacos are outstanding, but the wait time for online orders is insanely long. Our order of four "from the menu" tacos was a total of 48 minutes, a full 30 minutes from when the order app said it would be ready. To add to the injury, we were parked in a curbside spot, and when the gal finally came out the front door, holding an order in a bag, she hung by the door for almost five minutes talking to someone, literally a foot from my car. I assumed the order was some else's, but when after all that time she slowly walks to my driver's window and just hands it to me, without even a "sorry for the wait". I was just floored at the insensitivity. This was my first visit, and I'd have to think long and hard about going back. This place has amazing food, but the sorely lacking awareness of the customer is disheartening. The restaurant business is very competitive. If this place is to survive, they're going to have to up their service game quite a bit. read more

Order : Crossroads - With my Allergies Noted ass Avocado ( which was still there and LOTS OF IT smeared all over and outside the foil pack) Salsa & chips - Salsa was very dark almost a brown color and tasted foul chips were okay. Street Corn - was okay not really what i expected for my first time. Beef Taco - Meet was tough & tortilla was okay. For A person who has serious issues with ignoring a customers statements when put onto an order i will not be eating here again, i am appalled by the way my food was made , some could say its because i chose door dash or chose a busy time, but i feel as though every customer's food should be made properly especially when they're allergens are made clear. read more
