Food has no taste, fajita meat was not cut or sliced--just a big rubbery slab of meat that wasn't even room temperature. Condiments for 4 fajitas was only enough for 2. Will never eat there again. read more

This is your normal Tex-mex restaurant. They had plenty of seating and were open fairly late. The food came out quick and the queso was just how I like it. The sangria was ok but I've had better. Well I'm not Mexican or Hispanic, but I enjoy the food here. Today's lunch was the special, 2 enchiladas with rice and beans. I mean, we all understand that. We started with the chorizo dip. Always a delight. The salsa is really good. I ate my entire bowl and brought my friend's home with me. Someone close by got a taco salad and I thought long and hard about getting that. We had such a great experience at Toreros!! I wish I knew our server's name because he was the absolute BEST! He brought us refills and extra chips and salsa before we could even ask for them. He was so on it!! They had a special on display at the front door that consisted of 2 burritos with rice and beans for only $10. My husband ordered that and it was amazing. We even had leftovers! We ordered cheese dip and they brought out a respectable amount of cheese dip as opposed to the tiny bowls that you get elsewhere. Lunch for 1 on Margarita Mondays is fun at Toreros Mexican Restaurant in Raleigh! Plenty of free parking in the lot where the restaurant is located right off Atlantic Avenue. I was there primarily for a mid-day margarita and to take advantage of the special, which is classic Margarita on the rocks for $2 or Frozen for $3 with a choice of flavors. I opted for the mango and loved it. Complimentary warm chips and salsa paired well with my cocktail which came quick when ordered. For lunch ( which is served Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and weekends, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m) I got the steak fajitas. You get a half portion of meat, served sizzling hot over sauteed onions and green peppers. Served with refried beans, Mexican rice, corn or flour tortillas, lettuce, pico de gallo, Cheddar cheese, sour cream and guacamole. Even though it was a half portion, it was still quite a bit for me to take home. Maybe I got too full of the chips and salsa and margarita- I literally could just go there for that. Service was friendly, prompt and I would describe the ambiance as colorful. Can't believe it's been eight years since I've updated my review here, but I stand by my "consistently good" comment from back then. There was a period where the quality might have slipped a tad, especially when it came to their rellenos, but they are right back up there where I've always liked them. Nothing makes me happier than a combo of a chile relleno and a spinach enchilada with beans and rice. Husband's favorite is the fajita quesadilla with steak. Chips and Salsa are always good, and still complimentary. Prices reasonable. Portions gigantic. And service is always quick. They are less food for a lesser amount. But to serve it on a big plate, with only half the food ... really? Also this small amount for ACP for $11? That's crazy. Also not even 2 bites in .. Listen it was all soo bomb - meat for the fajitas were so tender and flavorful that I didn't even bother using the corn tortillas that came with it. They were running a great special on margaritas so we tried various flavors - raspberry, peach, mango and strawberry for $7.99 - all a 10/10. Do yourself a favor and visit this spot. Do not want to encourage more people to patronize this place! busy as it is, but it is still the only place that my wife and I like to visit on a regular basis maybe every 6 weeks, or less. The food is great, service is excellent, the Ambiance is authentic and of course they have the one thing that I can't find it any other Mexican restaurant, and I have been ordering from Torero's for the last 20 years, both in Durham and in Raleigh more recently. We have been eating at Torero's for at least 20 years. I don't think we have ever had bad service. We've been here for date night for two as well as had big birthday dinners and a Mother's Day brunch -- always consistent good food and service. So no surprise when we ate here a few days ago to be seated immediately. Water, chips and their delicious fresh salsa brought promptly and we ordered margaritas. I was feeling fruity so I ordered a peach one and husband ordered regular. I wish I'd gone with regular because mine tasted sweeter and weaker -- you could really taste the tequila in his. I ordered the Camarones a la Chipotle. The waiter told me they would be spicy and I told him that was fine -- I can handle medium spice. Weirdly, when they came they were not spicy at all. But, they were very tasty and the portion was huge -- tons of shrimp! I can usually clean my plate but not that night. I took half home and it made a yummy dinner another night. read more

I also got a mix drink. Our server was excellent . I felt the food did lack a bit of flavor from the salsa and chips to the refried beans. The mix drink also wasn't strong to my liking. I had the lunch fajita burrito. The restaurant is located in a local strip with easy parking. Your meal comes with the standard chips and salsa. I didn't care too much for the salsa. Super thick, room temperature, and no salt. Pair that with bland salsa, and the aforementioned nonexistent queso and it's a bad time. I kept reading good reviews on Toreros, so when hubby suggested Mexican, I said, "I know where to go!." Went on a Wednesday night, we were seated immediately. It's nice that it has a dedicated parking area and despite being part of a plaza of other stores, parking was no problem. Chips and salsa were just ok. The salsa was not my favorite, my hubby commented on how much cilantro he tasted. Not awful but definitely not a highlight. Server was very friendly. Hubby ordered fajita sampler and I ordered the molcajete. The food was served to us within about twenty minutes, which was nice. As our food arrived, the live entertainment began. Only problem was that it was one man with his guitar, singing very loudly...about five feet (no exaggeration) behind me. It became almost comical - I would start a sentence and he'd be hitting his chorus. So, I'd wait until he got slightly quieter. I'd start the same sentence, he'd get louder. We just had to laugh. Anyway, after one very loud and long song, he mercifully strolled on. Onto the food - the fajitas weren't served on a sizzling platter as they typically are at other restaurants. Hubby thought his food was just "okay". I didn't particularly care for my meal. The description says "beef, chicken and mushrooms in a unique orange sauce", I believe. The chicken and beef were swimming in sauce. Too much. Beef wasn't very good. The rice was good, retried beans tasted like they should. Overall, it was just blah. Nothing very memorable. I generally always get the Macho Burrito because I've never seen an option for a smaller burrito without the rice and beans inside already.
