It was the first of five tastings we did during our weekend in town, and the wines were, admittedly, the least impressive. They went down easy, though, and we had a pleasant visit. We checked into our hotel on Friday around 5:30 and quickly realized that all the wineries on our list were closed. We asked the receptionist where we might be able to do a tasting, and she said Carhartt was our best bet. It was quite open when we walked in, almost intimidatingly so, the live music loud as we rounded the sidewalk outside the enclosed patio. Jack welcomed us into the tasting room and suggested we do a vibe check on the patio before deciding where to sit. We peeked outside and it seemed fun in a way we weren't looking for, a bit of a party atmosphere with a live band and a lot of people. We took our seats in the quieter tasting room, where we were able to enjoy the music from a distance while we drank some wine. We both did the house tasting, which came with five pours of Carhartt wines: the 2024 Top Branch, the 2022 Sin Nada, the 2022 Sangiovese, the 2022 Rebel Roan, and the 2020 Northerly. Jack also gave us a taste of the 2021 Graciano. They were all nice wines, but we particularly liked the Sin Nada, the Sangiovese, and the Graciano, and took home two bottles of each, getting one $25 tasting fee waived with each purchase of three bottles. Jack was a great host, and he told us all about the wines and winery as we went along. (He pre-empted our first question, saying that yes, they were the same Carhartts as the Carhartt clothing label, but not the same company. I guess just the classic generational wealth to winemaking pipeline.) It was a helpful introduction to both the Carhartt wines and Los Olivos, and Jack was good company. I said Carhartt was the least impressive of the wineries we visited, but it's also worth noting that it had the lowest price point. Carhartt isn't gunning for Robert Parker ratings. The wines are accessible and tasty, and I have a feeling we'll go through our bottles very fast.

We arrived on a Saturday afternoon. The olive oil tasting farm is located in a nice neighborhood area in downtown Los Olivos. There is parking accessible in the back parking lot and limited parking next to the olive oil tasting area and boutique shop. As soon as we parked and headed to the olive oil tasting area, we were greeted by a very friendly and hospitable staff member. I appreciated all the information she told us about the property and instructions about the olive oil tasting experience. Their complimentary olive oil tasting was unique and unlike any other olive oil tasting I had ever done before. There were 10 different olive oils to taste from. You are given a freshly made sourdough bread slice to go along with a tray with a menu sheet of all the olive oils. Some of the olive oils that stood out to me were the white truffle, garlic, and Italian honey. We were then encouraged to explore the rest of the property where there was a charcuterie cart, pottery vendor, and complimentary wine tasting on the other side of the premises. This enhanced our olive oil tasting experience even more. The rest of the property was beautiful as there were a lot of tables and chairs for guests to enjoy. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Olive + Lavender Farms. The staff were nice and accommodating. The vibe was relaxing and inviting. The boutique shop were selling a lot of wonderful and distinctive local products in the area. The olive oils price point are in the higher end. Next time we are in the area we would love to come back.

We did a free olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting, and both my friend and I bought a bottle of habanero olive oil, so yummy! They sell bundles of lavender, soaps, cute kitchen things, candles etc etc. A great stop to pick up some gifts and great way to support local businesses.

The place is casual and not tiny, but it definitely fills up. I don't think they were taking walk-ins while we were there. The tasting room--or tasting patio, I suppose--was really pleasant, a breezy outdoor space in front of a charming brick-red house with a strong Los Olivos aesthetic. My only complaint is that the bathroom was a porta-potty, though it was the nice kind, with running water. We got our own table and a friendly, knowledgeable young server brought us our wines and explained what we were drinking. He was busy, so this was one of the less in-depth tastings we did on this trip, but the experience was easy and enjoyable. There were two tastings on offer, the classic estate flight and the "fresh and esoteric." Since this was our first visit, we both went with the estate, and it was a great introduction to Stolpman's wines. We tried the 2025 Sauvignon Blanc, the 2024 Chenin Blanc, the 2024 La Cuadrilla, the 2023 Sangiovese, and the 2024 Angeli, the label's flagship Syrah. They were all excellent and very well priced--the Cuadrilla goes for $26. It's also a delicious wine with a cool provenance, a red blend made by Stolpman's vineyard workers on a designated block, in what looks to be a successful profit sharing project. The tasting fee was $25, waived with a three-bottle purchase. We snapped up three each of the Sauvignon Blanc and the Sangiovese, which cost $24 and $36 a bottle. Tremendous value for such outstanding wines. I have a feeling we'll go through these quickly, and may be tempted to join the wine club if we do. Either way, though, I hope to go back to Stolpman. I'm definitely curious about that second tasting.

Everything was delicious and Ms Kempe was a wonderful host who guided us through the various selections. We joined the wine club so we can continue to enjoy the varieties that Barbieri and Kempe produce year-round. They have impeccable service and Barbieri's Master Sommelier training is evident and together Barbieri and Kempe's service we look forward to year round wine service and supply. Highly recommend!

Toretti Wine Tasting Room is truly a hidden gem, and our experience there was nothing short of magical, thanks to the warm reception from Pancho, the owner and one-man show behind the entire operation. From the moment we walked in, Pancho made us feel like old friends, offering a personal touch that you just can't find at larger wineries. His passion for wine and dedication to his craft were evident in every aspect of the experience. The atmosphere at Toretti is intimate and inviting, with a cozy, welcoming vibe that made it easy to relax and enjoy the moment. As we sipped on Pancho's exquisite wine selections, we were fortunate enough to meet some amazing fellow guests, creating a truly memorable social experience. It's not often that a wine tasting becomes a gathering of like-minded people, but at Toretti, it truly felt like a special community. Pancho's wines were absolutely delicious--each pour was thoughtfully curated and full of character. He also wanted to make sure the bride in our group left with a better impression, so he's sending her a few bottles of wine. We really appreciate him reaching out and making the effort to make things right. It leaves a much more positive experience of the winery and the experience they want to provide! This was one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had at a winery. Our group of 12 made a reservation in advance after spending the day wine tasting at other wineries. When we arrived and gave our reservation name, the employee looked at us and said, "Oh... that's it?" because our group was smaller than they expected. Once we were seated, we decided to start by ordering one bottle of wine to share and then planned to order more after reviewing the menu. When we ordered, our server responded, "Only one bottle? Huh... big spenders," before walking away. The comment made our entire group uncomfortable and immediately changed the tone of our visit. We had originally planned to order more, but after that interaction, we decided we'd rather finish the one bottle and go somewhere else. While we were sitting outside enjoying the live music, no one checked on our table. When a few people from our group went inside to ask for water, they were told they could buy water there, but that it would actually be cheaper to go to the convenience store across the street, which the staff recommended instead. I've never experienced anything like that at a winery. When we asked for our check, the server again commented, "So you're really only getting one bottle?" She then informed us there was a 25% surcharge for walk-ins. I responded that we were glad we had made a reservation, and she made a point of saying she wasn't going to charge us the fee, as though she were doing us a favor. Because the service had been so uncomfortable from start to finish, I left a 15% tip on our bottle of wine. As we walked out, the server loudly called after us, "Bye, four dollars!" referring to the tip we had left. I understand that when a group of 12 walks in, servers may have different expectations, but we made our reservation in advance, were polite throughout our visit, and fully intended to order additional bottles. Unfortunately, the dismissive comments and poor service made us decide to leave after just one. That final comment as we walked out confirmed everything we had experienced during our visit. We visited several other wineries that day and had wonderful experiences everywhere else. Unfortunately, this was the only stop where we felt unwelcome and judged for how much we were spending. There are so many fantastic wineries in the area with welcoming staff and genuine hospitality. I'd recommend skipping this one and spending your time and money elsewhere.

Just a heads up, if you're looking for lighter, more delicate reds, this probably isn't your tasting room. The focus here is definitely on bigger, richer wines, although they also make a fantastic Chardonnay. The property is beautiful, the staff is friendly and welcoming, and overall it was a really enjoyable tasting experience. I'm not sure I'll be joining the wine club, but I'd definitely come back for another visit. My only minor suggestion is that some of the younger Syrahs would benefit from a bit more air before being poured. The current releases are still quite young, and when a bottle has only been open for a few minutes, the wines can come across as more closed than they really are. Given a little time in the glass, they become much more expressive and show a lot more of their character. That small critique aside, the wines are excellent and this is definitely one of the better Rhône focused tasting experiences in the area.

Upon arrival we noticed that the tasting room was uphill from the vineyards, providing a great view. I will say that the tasting room was cut into a little crevice so the views from the deck are limited. However, there is a beautiful private tasting area on a hill (when you turn into the winery parking lot) that would be a fantastic spot for good views. The wine was nice, plenty of variety. And I appreciated the unique guidance of wines from the staff. By providing your preferred wines and notes they will create a personal tasting menu. We also opted for the charcuterie for 2 which was perfect. Plenty of bites to accompany our tasting. We had a nice experience at Cambria Winery. When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly staff…read moremember. It was a cold and rainy day so we took a table by the fireplace and enjoyed our wine tasting. Our host was attentive and allowed us to take our time while we tasted. We left with several bottles of wine. If you are in the Santa Maria Valley area and you want to experience some delicious wines then you need to stop by Cambria Winery.
