A great winery in the Santa Maria area! The new tasting room and deck are perfect any time of year for a little wine tasting. We came with our pup, and Google Maps took us up Tepusquet from the 166. Don't do it. Just don't. I love a good adventure, but this didn't make any sense for being any faster or more efficient. It's windy, narrow, and steep. Poor June was car sick from the drive. While the drive had some great views, we were anxious to get to Cambria. Upon arrival we noticed that the tasting room was uphill from the vineyards, providing a great view. I will say that the tasting room was cut into a little crevice so the views from the deck are limited. However, there is a beautiful private tasting area on a hill (when you turn into the winery parking lot) that would be a fantastic spot for good views. The wine was nice, plenty of variety. And I appreciated the unique guidance of wines from the staff. By providing your preferred wines and notes they will create a personal tasting menu. We also opted for the charcuterie for 2 which was perfect. Plenty of bites to accompany our tasting. Because wine is so unique it's always difficult to review, so I prefer to focus on the experience as a whole, and Cambria nailed it. We would definitely return and hang out by their fireplace. We had a nice experience at Cambria Winery. When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly staff member. It was a cold and rainy day so we took a table by the fireplace and enjoyed our wine tasting. Our host was attentive and allowed us to take our time while we tasted. We left with several bottles of wine. I was looking for a winery to go in Santa Maria as I was already going to Bien Nacido and had some extra time. I settled on Cambria, mostly because of the new tasting room. I wasn't too familiar with most of the wineries on the Foxen Wine Trail, but Cambria seems celebrated for its Chardonnay so I decided to try it out. The location and tasting room are gorgeous. There's a little picnic area on a hill as you drive in that overlooks the Santa Maria Valley. The tasting room is well decorated, new and clean. It's definitely a nice location. The service was good, they try to figure out which of their wines is your style and don't necessarily go off a scripted menu. That was a welcome change from other wineries. Alas, I was not a big fan of the wines. They are on the riper / fruitier side. Very fruity Chardonnay, extremely rich Pinot Noir. They have some wines that are a little less ripe and slightly more acidic but overall this isn't my style of wine. Overall a good experience, just not my cup of tea. read more

This tasting room is currently doing outdoor and inside. Though they prefer reservations, we got in without one. The server was very pleasant and helpful. You should pre-order the charcuterie. We were lucky again they'd ordered extra. It's truly great. We did the premium tasting and enjoyed every wine. We ended up buying a few of the high end pinots. The Service: Wonderful~ We went on Thursday, no crowd at all. We had 110% attention from the staff... like a private tasting event! She is super knowledgeable about wine and very informative tasting lesson too. The Tasting Room: The tasting room has beautiful view. There is small outdoor patio seating area with nice furniture. I'm not one to revisit places that didn't leave a lasting impression on me, so I was surprised to find myself back at Cambria so soon since our first visit to them. We were on the trail with friends of ours and leaving Rancho Sisquoc when the named Cambria as the suggested next stop. I wanted out so bad and may have tried saying no even but my bf who may at times be more polite that I said we are with them and we can't only go where I want to go. Ummm and why the heck not but I figured I'd go and be a champ plus they had buy on get one coupons. I'm actually pleasantly surprised by our visit. We had a great time. Walking into a very crowded tasting room around noon on a Saturday we snagged a few bars tools at a round that overlooked their production from above. I really liked this seating option, much more than the standing option at the counter. We sat and were greeted by Amanda who remembered us from our last visit. We opted for the mixed white/red tasting this time since I wasn't impressed with the all Pinot flight before. We started off indoors as our friends unloaded their son and then relocated to an outdoor patio table with plush seat cushions. As busy as it was Amanda took really great care of us and very quickly built rapport with me which changed my mind on Cambria. I also enjoyed the wine a bit more than last time and asked to revisit the "cab converter" I enjoyed last time. We didn't join the wine club here or purchase any bottles but I won't rule out visiting them again in the future. We stayed well over and hour, maybe even two and had a fabulous time. read more

This winery is amazing! I had my doubts before I visited, just because I don't normally like high production wineries. I feel that high production companies are more about quantity and less about quality. That is not the case here! The wines are fantastic! Super complex, yet very approachable at the same time. They specialize in Pinot and Chardonnay, which is common on the central coast, but Cambria's are special! Most of their vineyard is grown on rock bed that was once under water! So, every level of soil gives the grapes a unique flavor profile! There has even been fossils of whales found on their property! They are located just a few miles outside of Orcutt, Ca and it's so worth the drive. Yes, you can find their wines all over the world, but the tasting room offers a reserve flight that can only be sampled on premises. If you are a local or a veteran, they offer a special deal on sundays! How cool is that?? The grounds are also so beautiful! Becca is awesome by the way! One of the more commercial wineries we went to but overall a pleasant visit. I can't say that all their wine is great but for the most part, it's not bad. I'd personally put it in a mid to higher end Firestone category (I can just imagine the hate mail I'm gonna get from that comment. LOL.). So in other words... Wednesday wine. The one thing that I can say you should try is the peanut brittle that they sell. GOOD STUFF! And highly addictive, too. The tasting room was busy but it's fairly big. I had to laugh at the newbie wine drinkers next to us who were saying that they like to mix different wines together to get a "better" flavor. Not much for the $60 for two tastings. Maybe it was just me, but seemed like a lot for what we got compared to other places on Foxen Canyon Rd. They charge so much for tasting just ok wines (sold at $50-60 bottle) in order to induce you to buy 6 bottles (in which case the tasting is free). On our most recent trip to he Foxen Canyon area we decided to venture a little farther north the previously. Cambria was our fist stop on our first day of wine tasting, and it was a good first stop. First, our pourer asked if we wanted the three winery tastings for $20 special. We said sure as long as we could split the tastings, which was no problem. So, the y explained that the other winery participating were Kenneth Volk and Riverbench. I believe the tasting at Cambria included 6 wines, but we got a couple of bonus tastings. Interestingly enough, I'm not normally a huge Chardonnay fan, but the two that we tried both really appealed to me. Because this was our first stop we didn't want o go crazy buying a lot of wine. We expected to make several more purchases on it his trip so my wife and I ended up agreeing on the Santa Maria valley Chardonnay. Our pourer, Priscilla, asked what our plans were. We told her that we intended to work our way south along the Foxen Canyon trail to Los Olivos. She the told us about their sister winery Byron, that had a tasting room in Los Olivos and then gave us a card for a free tasting at the Byron tasting room. Sweet! We just got a 3 for the price of 2 special and a free tasting at Byron! The staff here was very pleasant and gave us some pointers on where to get lunch in Los Olivos or Solvang. Eight of us did a Foxen Trail wine tour in May. I am the ultimate travel planner so I did thorough research on all the wineries. I picked Cambria as our starting point, mainly because I have enjoyed their wine since the late 1990s, particularly their buttery Chardonnay. I was excited to go to the source. We arrive early and were greeted by Brian. We all walked away talking about how great this experience was and it can all be attributed to Brian. We sat at the large table inside the tasting room and were gobsmacked by the sultry flavors of the reds and the crisp of the whites. The highlight for me was a 2012 Pinot. The nose of it reminded one of our tasters of "rain on asphalt." Sounds weird, right? But the smell and the taste did not converge. It was deep and rich and clingy to my palate. Loved it. Bought a flight of four, joined the wine club and can't wait to return. Also bought a case of the Rose to drink for the summer. Ooops. I don't think it made it to August. Brian gave our group a private tour of the grounds. I can't express enough how much fun we all had. We're still talking about it. Cambria is at the northern end of the trail, but well worth the drive. The vineyards are gorgeous and so are the wines. Nothing pretentious as you find in Napa. I love California's central coast wines, and Cambria is exceptional. read more

Let's start with the name, Cambria. I've had their wines before and they rarely disappoint. One would think that would carry over to their vineyards, but this vineyard disappoints. Their flights are 1.5-2x the price of tastings in the area. For the price of $15 or $20, depending on the list you decide to choose from, you get to choose 4 wines to sample. The pour was a paltry ounce per variety. Paying $15 for 4oz of wine on a $30 bottle is off-putting. The experience left a sour taste in my mouth, more so since the wines offered didn't live up to my past with Cambria. Other comments, the staff that helped us smelled like he had just come back from a smoke break. Gag. I felt like we were being rushed through the wines. read more

10/10/14 Absolutely love the wines of this winery. The boyfriend and his mother introduced me to these amazing wines last year and this year I was able to go with the group to visit the winery in person. The grounds are amazing!! The showroom/tasting room is so nice. Great design, warm, and welcoming feeling. You also have a view of the barrels and fermenting storage which is pretty cool! Our server Brandon was AMAZING!! Very knowledgable about the wines he is serving and you can tell he loves what he does. We decided to sit outside since it was a beautiful day. A few people of our group are members of the wine club so our tasting was free and the wines we had were awesome!!! We definitely spent quite a bit purchasing lot of bottles to take home. We were able to get some of our favorites. One in particular is a 2008 2A Pinot noir. Soooo lucky to get two of the 6 bottles they happen to have left. When you try wines this good it broadens your horizons and knowledge of amazing wines. This winery knows how to do wine! In the heart of Santa Maria, California, sits a beautiful Winery called Cambria! Great setting amongst the vineyards and is now my go to Winery for Chardonnay's! Liked it so much we bought a case of the 2015 Benchbreak! Delicious with flavors of lively fruit and oak spice aromas. Perfect with seafood, chicken and just to sit and drink with friends any time of the day! Cambria Estate Winery is located about an hour or so north from Santa Barbara on the 101. Great place to stop and share a bottle of wine and have a picnic lunch on their patio or amongst the vineyards. Nice 3 mile drive off the beaten path through acres and acres of great vineyards. This is a great place to taste wine. Beautiful tasting room with a great view of the storage house. You can actually see the barrels of wine. The country-esque ambiance juxtaposed to the industrial backdrop works very well. Not to mention the tasting room gals. They are hilarious and very knowledgeable. A beautiful tasting room located way at the top of a private road off Foxen Canyon Road, you'll definitely need to go out of your way to taste here. Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of any of their wines, but it is a matter of personal preference since I know other people really enjoy them. They have a large production pinot which is available at Costco and many other retailers, and also their lower production pinots that you can only get here. We were excited to try those pinots as we were looking to stock up our wine cellar, but both my bf and I found that the higher end pinots pretty much tasted exactly like the one that is widely distributed, which we just personally aren't fans of. So if you have tried that wine and don't like it, you probably won't enjoy their other wines. read more

After a disappointing "I don't care you come here" attitude at Rancho Sisquoc Tasting Room, my husband encouraged that we try another wine tasting room...our choice Cambria Winery. OMG!!! I'm not a fan of white wines, but Cambria has the best Chardonnay to make me want to convert! They're Clone 96 is OUTSTANDING!!!!!!! And their reds are great! Especially Barbara's Clone 667! Enjoying a 180 degree view of the vineyard, great wine and employees who genuinely make you feel welcome, this is my new favorite wine tasting room in the Santa Maria Valley. This is our only stop in the Santa Maria/Santa Ynez area that we didn't plan on. But having driven to that corner of the region, we decided to give it a try. Good decision. Their chard that we've seen at retail (Costco?) wasn't too exciting. But a single vineyard Pinot Noir called Close 2A was best of the day. That we took home. The setting is fabulous, worth the long drive up to their vineyard. Service was less than stellar. read more

I cannot believe that I have not written about Cambria!! (insert web-acronym here: OMG, OMFG, WTF ....) yah, I'm surprised, can you tell?? I'm shocked at my oversight b/c I think I just might regret writing about this awesome place. The first time we stopped into Cambria was March or April and it was POURING rain; which turned out to be a great wine tasting day b/c they were empty! lol. We ran from the parking area into the tasting room and were greeted by a cheery woman ready to pour us some wine! I can't remember the tasting fee, but you get the whole gamut of wines for the fee and they are rather nice pours. We sat by the fireplace and chatted and the staff was kind enough to walk over to us to pour our tastings. After that, I was a fan! A BIG Fan that I joined the wine club that day! Since then we've been back for some of the events and the outdoor patio was fantastic to have a picnic lunch with our friends before they headed back to Europe. Friendly staff, GREAT wine (excellent Pinot Noirs), great patio and fair fees. The *only* downside is that they are located in SM, a little far from the "traditional" SB tasting trail which could be good or bad, depending on how you look at things.. As a member they have a very generous club allowing up to 6 tastings for no fee! I am still a member and look forward to my shipment each time. read more

Cambria is one of the fancy wineries on the Foxen Canyon Trail. It's wines are good, but not great. They have a friendly pouring staff, but their wines are just OK. There isn't much for a picnic area, but it's got a wonderful view. Probably won't be back on my next trip to the area. You can actually get their wines for a few dollars cheaper at bev'mo. read more

As Holly T. mentioned, this was our last stop on our all too brief wine tasting trip. This was the one winery that I was actually kind of excited to go to since I've liked their Pinot Noir since before the-Paul-Giamatti-movie-we-shall-not-name came out. It was a Saturday but the Cambria tasting room was refreshingly un-crowded compared to the push and shove fest going at Foxen Canyon and Fess Parker (which my gf and I didn't even bother with - that place was crazy). The wine servers were nice and they didn't rush us, though they didn't bother to talk about the wines much - honestly, after I whole day of hearing wine spiels at different wineries, I was happy to talking about our dogs The tasting cost was right in line with the other wineries and I believe we even got an extra wine that wasn't on their tasting list. Again I love their Pinots and we bought a couple bottles of wine from them. We also picked up spifffy laminated map of the Santa Barabara and Pas Robles wine regions for our next trip. The grounds here are huge, it's very pretty to look out across the valley with acres of vines in front of you. The tasting room was nothing special, a side room of their offices, but the view of the aging room was impressive. Still, it's just wine tasting, 4-stars is about as good as they can do with me. On that same note, I'm excited to think what a 5-star wine tasting experience would be like. read more

One of the most impressive wineries in the area. Well off the beaten path. The location and the view are well worth the drive. I fell in love with Cambria's Katherine's Vineyard Chardonnay years ago when you could find it for 10 dollars a bottle. The prices have gone up along with most everything else in this area. Let me preface this review by saying I pretty much dislike white wines. Just not a fan, unless it's a V. Sattui Rose (which doesn't even really qualify as a white wine) or a Milat Chenin Blanc. But wow, what a difference one wine tasting makes. This place has some outstanding white wines, even their chardonnay tastes good and I effing hate that stuff. I generally think white wines are hard to do well because the light fruity flavor gets easily overpowered by the alcohol. But Cambria strikes a really nice balance where each sip is fruity and fresh without being overly sweet. Frankly, I walked in thinking I wouldn't like the place. The exterior looked too coiffed to be good, it was WAY crowded and I'm a crowd-hating misanthrope. But once I started tasting the wine, I was a happy lass. Love this place! Their wine has become one of my favorites. I'm from northern California, about an hour away from Napa (cabs all the way), and I've lived near Lodi the past few years (zin zin zin!). I love red, and enjoy white wines mostly in the summer, and this winery has GREAT chards. One of the best I've had in a while. It was just OK. I got a tasting. They seemed to be very into pinot clones. Although none of them were bad, none of them wowed me enough to want to buy a bottle. I fell in love with their Pinot Noir after buying a bottle at Cost Plus (of all places!) I immediately joined their Estate Club and have made several wine buying/tasting trips to the facility. Ive never had a bad bottle yet. It always pays to compare prices though - sometimes Costco and Bevmo can get wines at a lower price than you can direct from the winery!
