First the good stuff - the décor is really nice, great artwork on the walls, nice carpeting, clean tiles, nice furniture. As I said, friendly staff, very helpful and courteous. We used a Marriot gift card, which is typically always a problem, but they had it done in minutes. The place is clean, rooms are very well maintained and the cleaning staff does an excellent job. It's about a 10 minute walk to the heart of the town so it's very convenient. It has a rooftop restaurant, a bar and a breakfast buffet. The gym is fantastic! One of the best I've seen! Super clean, multiple machines, a virtual workout station and plenty of free weights. The rooftop restaurant is nice, good food at a good price and has a great vibe. It's apparently a pretty trendy spot with the locals. The not so great - added fees. They charged us a $25 a day "destination" fee - money that they are "giving us" that we had to spend at the hotel. Well, if you're charging us automatically, then you're not giving it to us. No mention of that when we booked. Also, parking is not free - it's Valet ONLY and it's $45 a day. That was also misleading in the listing. It reads Valet or parking garage. You can take your chances and try to park on the street, but you have to pay for that too. Two observations that are neither good nor bad - the views are "ok" - there are multiple construction projects going on in the immediate area (not the hotel's fault) but it definitely doesn't make for great views of the water or town. Hopefully, in time, those projects will finish and make the neighborhood look better. It's also a pet friendly hotel, so you'll see lots of dogs coming and going. They do a really good job masking any "smells" or "sights" you would normally come across in a pet friendly environment - I honestly didn't notice anything until I saw an actual dog and thought "oh wow, I guess they are pet friendly" Overall, a very good experience, just didn't appreciate getting nickel and dimed with extra fees.

Yet we…read moregot the worst room location in my history of traveling...a lovely view of the dumpsters which they fill at 10pm. As quietly as an herd of elephants could possibly do. That same herd is in the room above me practicing for the 25th annual Portsmouth Irish Stepdance competition. Fingers crossed they win. The "hydration station" a glass airless tomb that reeks of last summers trout catch was an added bonus. Maybe next time I'll be brave enough to try the ice! Small goals. None the less I wake up to dreams of breakfast... an bountiful offering of Meats and cheeses that would make Melissa McCarthy proud. Sadly thanks to this week's news on deli meats we decided to not partake and ubered to a near hotel for a lovely breakfast with Mimosas. The view from the other side of our suite? Who could ask for more. Ground level to the Parking garage.. which thankfully it snowed so it was a beautiful coat of white powered until the tractor shook us out of bed to plow.
