I stopped here a few months ago and liked the empanadas, so I brought my bf here thinking he would like it as well. It's a family place and feels like one, but the grandma was not very nice to us. My boyfriend told me it's Bc I'm American Lol. I guess that was the vibe he felt. I'm oblivious to things like that, but I will say her demeanor and what seemed like annoyance w us was obvious enough. And we didn't go there when it was closing or anything so I'm not sure but everyone has their days. I just wish this happens on our third or fourth visit versus the first time I brought him here. We got pernil. It was a small portion. I wouldn't order it again for this reason. The empanadas were delicious still. I used to really like this place but you can tell the care they put into their food has really gone down. I ordered some of their pernil for this holiday weekend and when opening it at home we realized it had a funny smell, kinda like the meat hadn't been properly washed? It smelled like barnyard. Point is, we paid $30 for meat that wasn't even properly cleaned and inedible. I was worried if we ate it we'd get food poisoning. Be wary when ordering pork from here. read more

A hidden gem. I absolutely love their food. They are always so welcoming, I feel like I'm at a family dinner when I come here. I normally only come on Saturdays because that's when they serve sancocho but they have so many other good foods. It's very small as I'm sure it's a family business. I recommend anyone reading this go to Lito Sofrito down the block they are wayyyyy BETTER!!!!! Only giving 1 star because I can't give 0 stars or I would. Customer service is by far the worse service ever!!! I call to order my food I didn't even finish and they hung up on me, so I call back then they picked up had me on hold for 10 minutes. I called back and told them if they can separate my food they said they packed it already. Told them if they didn't hang up on me they would've known. Then I get there and she still didn't do it so when she opens it I notice they didnt put extra meat like I asked and they were going to charge me for it. I go to my car to get my card left my daughter in there and she tells me when I left that they said I was lucky it was her because nobody would've separated it for me. 4 little pieces of rib and 2 were just bone. Thank God she did it in front of me. Never going there again. I recommend you guys go to Lito Sofrito down the block. They are way better and are not rude!!! read more

Wow, i had the most awesome authentic Puerto Rican dish today at Torres Cafe!! The food was sooo amazing!! I had the pernil with rice and beans along with a few beef empanadas that were made in heaven!! The owner came out and brought me a sample of shrimp mofongo and I almost died of how delicious it was!! I felt as if I was in the heart of Puerto rico. I absolutely adore Torres Cafe - a gem in Perth Amboy. This is a real Puerto Rican restaurant being owned and run by a Puerto Rican family. I've spoken to the owners each time I come and they're so hospitable -- they make you feel like you're coming into their home and not just their restaurant. Their food is AMAZING. I absolutely love their pernil. And if you need a place to score pasteles, then this is your spot. Everything is perfectly seasoned and cooked. It's the most authentic PR food you can buy. They carry empanadas, too; the owner said that sometimes they go through 500 empanadas in a day -- THEY ARE THAY GOOD! And it's a great spot for students who go to MCC-Amboy/Amboy Votech, because not only is it good, but it is decently priced! You can feed two people for $20, that's including a (generous) dish of arroz y habichuelas con carne & drinks-- spend the extra money (around $1.75 or so) for the empanadas, you will not regret it. I can't say enough good things about Torres Cafe, I have done several large events for work and they have come through each time with quality delicious food, on time, ready and most of all they bring it with such a wonderful disposition. Carlos is amazingly helpful and nice and will work with you as well as recommend ways for your food to be exactly what you need and more! Both times I've had catering from them it's been for groups of over a 150 people and they get it done with like a day's notice. I've called many restaurants around town and got attitudes and no's but they do nothing but accommodate you! Highly recommend them for your next event! read more

I went to this restaurant because i was in area and wanted to get lunch.. so my husband looked into yelp and decided to go because of the reviews (soynd like a good place to eat).. omg why did we do that!!! The food was so bad the beef empanadas had not flavor it tasted like it was refried.. i also had sorrullos de maiz. And that was even worse it was pure cinnamon, the rice was nasty... i would not recommend this place at all. All around nasty food!!!!! read more
