The music was on/off--they had some difficulties--which we didn't mind--we were there for the food lol. Seated right away--and our server was great. They brought out complimentary plantain soup--it was soo good. I'm not a soup person, but every drop was gone. We got the appetizer platter--so worth it. Everything on it was delicious. I ordered the Kan-Kan--wow! My whole group was so happy with their meals. They abs loved it. I believe the owner even stopped by to see if we were ok, she was so sweet. For a group of this size, along with our many alcoholic beverages the bill was not bad--which made everything much more worth it. I'll def be back. My friends and I decided to visit Boriken after seeing it suggested on Instagram a few times and I wish we would've came sooner!! I can confidently say that the food we had was absolutely phenomenal, and one of the best meals I've had on Staten Island in a while. I really wanted to like this place. The ambiance was really nice and the staff were accommodating and polite! But the food was absolutely terrible. They burned my son's chicken cutlet (yes the remade it) and all the other meat tasted like it had been soaking in vinegar for a week. A few friends told me I had to try this spot because they know I'm a foodie, and wow, they were right! I came with my husband and our 10-year-old, and from the start the experience was top-notch. We were greeted by Jessica, a warm and friendly lady who also turned out to be our waitress. She sat us in the tent outside, which gave off a beautiful tropical vibe with the flower wall and bamboo furniture. Such a nice touch! Jessica was pleasant, attentive, and checked in often to make sure we were good. Now let's talk about the food. because this is where the magic really happened. We started with the Alcapurria de Guineo (plantain stuffed with ground meat). All I can say is, we should have ordered two! My 10-year-old had the Camarones al Ajillo and polished off the entire plate. My husband ordered the Mar y Tierra de Aguadilla and could not stop saying, "Babe, you have to try this." He was right, the steak was cooked to perfection and full of flavor. For my dish, I went with the Snapper with plantains. Let me just say, I never finish my meal. But this time, clean plate. The only thing left was the fish head! The drinks were also on point, and honestly the whole experience transported me right back to San Juan from earlier this year. I came here twice, and every time I love their piononos, plantains are super yummy here yellow always sweet and the tostones always fried deliciously paired with ketchupmayo. Their sopa de platano is yummy and very well seasoned and i love how it's complimentary in the beginning of the meal to open your palate up. Warm welcome and service(servers varies but all nice except one) with keeping the interior cool and calming. Good juicy pernil and chuleta kankan flavor is smokey and love the crust that's dusted with something addictive. Spacious front seating has a bar and additional back room seats. It's a cute hideaway walk from Broad St. when you get inside its such a cozy place the feel of community and culture. They have the spanish music playing and laughter in the air. Of course if your at the bar I had to have a signature Coquito drink and then the meal was so tasty. My brother enjoyed the Bacalaito he never had before. We had reservations for four (4) for 6:30 but got there early around 5:45pm and decided to sit at the bar, the first thing we noticed was that it took about 5 minutes for the bartender to ask us to place and order. After sitting at the bar we were escorted to our table where we were asked to place our appetizer and main course at the same time; the service felt like it took a while but we were in good company so I can't complain all that much and our waitress did check on us often. When you walk in, the restaurant feels cozy, intimate, and family-like. We were greeted immediately and asked if we had a reservation which, of course, we did. The hostess (who I believe is also the owner) walked us past the bar through a small walkway into another cozy dining area. As she guided us, she chatted with us and asked if it was our first time visiting. We told her yes and shared how excited we were to finally join them. We were a party of four and, honestly, everything on the menu sounded amazing. It was hard to choose because every dish sounded so delicious! The music playing in the background added to the great vibe my son and I even found ourselves dancing in our seats. Our waitress, Brianna, came over quickly and immediately matched our energy. I absolutely love the food at Boriken! It was flavorful but not salty! It brought a lot of memories from my stay in San Juan & Ponce, PR. We arrived early for our reservations and were seated at the bar. It did take the bartender a little while to take our drink orders but we are patient people. We were seated in the back of the restaurant. I'm not a fan of the lighting. It was a bit dark to see the menu and as the night progressed it just got darker, which I was not comfortable with. And, as more people came in the hotter the room was. The service wasn't too bad just wish their water cups were a bit bigger or leave the canister table side. I had 630 reservation place was pretty empty nice lady rook us to our table. Waitress came and serves us water and took our orders inorder crab alacapuria it was amazing like incase in pr. They also gave us this soup had so much flavor. Not long out main course came we order the chuleta khan khan it was soooo good the flavor was on point it was very big had to take it to go also tried the pork pastel it was nice and soft. God forbid you ask her a question.. don't believe me go and see for yourself! Not good for business at all. This was my fourth time here first two times was great. I visited on Saturday, 8/16, around 2:15 PM with my partner. When we arrived, we were asked if we had a reservation and said no. The hostess made a call and then informed us that reservations were required, even though the restaurant was empty at the time. We completely understand that reservations may be needed; however, it was the manner in which the message was delivered that felt unprofessional and unwelcoming. Good customer service makes a big difference, especially in a community with so many restaurant options. Went there a week ago with my mom and my brother for my brother's 50th birthday, we had a reservation and traveled in from Brooklyn. We got placed in the dark, undecorated rear room. The place smelled like dirty mop. Several items that we were interested in were not available on the menu. Service was very slow because the bartender/waitress was working alone with one another man who was in and out of the kitchen (I cannot really blame them). After dinner, my brother's piece of frozen in the middle tres leches cake was finally brought out after an unenthusiastic happy birthday from the waitress (yes I get it, she was busy). On a positive note, the food that we did get to eat was very good. My mother had the garlic shrimp with rice and beans, I had the churrasco with rice and beans, and my brother had the plato navideño. We had the chicken and the beef empanadas for our appetizer. The platano soup was good as well. I wish the experience there itself was better. OMG where do I start? We are fairly new to Staten Island and we're looking for some nice Puerto Rican food. We heard nice reviews online so we decided to try them. We went on a Thursday evening and didn't know we need ( highly recommended) reservations. When we spoke to the owner Alphonso, he understood and said give him a minute. He was gracious enough to accommodate us. Now the food. We were amazed by the menu. My wife ordered the Christmas dinner and I ordered the skirt steak Churrasco a La Parilla and to say we were satisfied is an understatement. My wife said everything made her think she was back in Puerto Rico. My steak came out hot and juicy and cooked to perfection which was medium well, not overcook and juices dripping out. We also tried the plantain soup which was new for me. I had never heard of that but it was delicious and I was glad that they presented something that was totally out of the box for me. As a Puerto Rican living in Staten Island, finding ANY food that tastes like home was next to impossible. So when we learned that a new restaurant had opened up that offers authentic PR cuisine, we made sure to go and try it out. Unfortunately, we caught the fledgling restaurant on a bad day. They were down a cook and therefore were backed up to where we waited nearly an hour just for appetizers. That said, the service and food more than made up for it! I appreciate honesty and they were not afraid to admit why there was such a long wait and I in turn assured them that it wasnt a problem as it was due to circumstances beyond their control. When the food arrived, it was worth it! It felt like home. The atmosphere felt like I was at my aunt's backyard in Adjuntas. That is difficult to replicate and the staff at Boriken accomplished that feat. If this is how they are on a "bad day" I can only imagine what it's like on a normal day. We made a reservation for 6:30 pm. At 8:15pm we had received no food and walked out. Theit excuse Was All dishes are made to order and take time. We had ordered Monfongo with Pernil. Not a complicated dish to make. Unless of course they had to roast the pork shoulder. when we got there we were escorted to a small room where there was a table with four people sitting. We observed a table set for 12 people. We ordered and waited and waited for our food. Meanwhile the table of four got 5 rounds of tequila shots which the waitress participated in every single time. Their food came and they ate. By this time the large party came in and they got their drinks and appetizers. We didn't get anything but a couple of bottles beers. The Young man filling the water glasses was MIA. The waitress barely came by. She sure didn't keep us updated on our order. At one point she told us the food was being plated And guess what it didn't come out. I don't recommend this place at all unless you don't want to eat dinner The place was small and dingy. No decor. We ordered our food three orders of Mofongo with Pernil and two orders of sweet plantains. and an order of snapper. When we sat down, there was one table of four people and no one else was sitting in the room with us. We ordered our meal and we waited and we waited and we waited after 45 minutes. The waitress came over to us and apologized and said the kitchen was backed up and our food would be out shortly. At the hour mark, she told us that our food was being plated and would be out in a few minutes at this point, our waitress was doing shots with the table behind us and another table that sat down after us was served their food . We continued to wait for our food and after an hour and a half we got up to leave and as we were leaving, and we passed the KITCHEN. We were told that they were just preparing our food. Needless to say we left hungry. I do not recommend this restaurant. The service is atrocious. I've never been to a restaurant where the waitress is doing shots of tequila with the customers. i'd asked the waitress for something for the table guacamole or chips or bread something to eat as we were all very hungry and she said oh I can give you some plantains and she came out with a small bowl with some plantain chips in it. water glasses were empty .
