Worst torta I've ever had. Completely fell apart the second I went to pick it up. Pastor was dry and not flavorful.

Tortas Chano y their staff have a special place in my heart. I would eat there at least 3 times a week when I lived in the neighborhood, usually rotating between the beef tacos, carne asada dinner, the taquitos y perhaps the occasional burrito or nacho plate. All of it is great, but the crispy tacos are the absolute best I've had, ever. I've tried to recreate their style of tacos y I have not come close. Matter of fact, nobody does it like "Roberto's" does it. They have the street cred of Diners, Drive-Ins & Dive, that speaks for itself. Roger y Maria, thank you for doing what you do. Always great service (especially Roger!) and food is always tasty. Love their carnitas! Usually order take out and love that they offer Mexican Coke as an option. (Real cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup.) Ordered the beef taco and bean tostada that comes with rice and beans, the carnita torta, soft chicken tacos and taquitos (family meal). It's a busy place after Saturday night church (FYI). Small restaurant and you order at counter. It was good and basic. Guy Fieri posters are displayed as he ate at this place when it was located at a gas station and then moved to Anthem where it is now. The price is inexpensive/affordable, which is a nice change from overpriced Mexican all around Phoenix metro (that's not worth it). It's not going to be our "go to" Mexican place (we have not found one around here that is yet), but I did eat everything and the people who work here are nice. Seems popular among Anthem residents. Had the torta de carnitas and it was amazing. Wife had the torta de carne asada and it was delicious. Beans and rice are authentic. You can tell it as made fresh and was true Mexican food, which is very hard to find out here. On top of that the service was excellent. Staff was friendly, helpful and fast. While we were eating they had several to go orders they got to very quickly. The ambiance is nice too, plenty of space and very clean. Definitely coming back! read more

I was really excited to try this place and it didn't disappoint. We got their Al pastor torta and their Mexican pizza. The Mexican pizza was delicious. It had so many topics but still held its shape and was just delicious. The torta was ok, not my favorite, but the bread was so soft and fresh. I would def try it again but maybe a different meat. The service was great, it was a busier night (went on a Wednesday) but they were very fast and friendly despite going in at a rush time. We ordered to go and sat in the dining room. Ordered food over the phone. We were quoted 15 minutes. I went early because we live just minutes away. Waited about 5 minutes for our food and it was all refrigerator cold by the time I got home. My rating is for the restaurant being close to me and being very friendly. First time here! Wondering why some of our tacos were grilled and others not? The salsa and pico de Gallo were great additions. I'm always awkward at a new take out place. I think I would speak up about the grilling more the next time and type of tortilla too. Pretty gosh darn delicious. All of our food was inhaled quickly. The Pico de Gallo was yummy as was the food. I had the chimicanga which was yummy and piping hot all the way through. $4.50 margarita was refreshing. Loved that they served it to me in an actual glass with a salt rim. They obviously know what's important in life. I'm pretty sure the owner took our order. He was such a nice guy and easy to talk to, if only for the few minutes while ordering. Every time we come to Arizona for any reason we always make a stop at Tortas Chano. Their Horchata here is always delicious. My sister loves their carne asada tortas. We have tried several different things from their menu and haven't been disappointed. Place is always packed and they also take phone orders. Staff is always friendly and courteous. We were recently told that they were going to be expanding and adding baked goods to the menu and a Tortilleria, so they will be relocating to a different address. So we will definitely return since we already had the pleasure of sampling some of those sweet donuts. read more

I had high expectations for this place. The restaurant was so clean. The menu was very straightforward and there were so many options for drinks. I had the California burrito with a crispy beef taco and my husband had the al pastor torta. I did order a Kid's quesadilla with rice and beans for my son but anyone can make a quesadilla. I'll only judge the other items. Everyone was super friendly and when the order came out hey had accidentally given us a carne asada torta. We explained the error and they replaced it right away without any hesitation. All the food came with a mild chunky salsa that normally gets served with chips. We like a more spicy salsa for our food and I had to go to the counter and ask for some because they don't have a salsa bar. I was very surprised that they didn't have salsa readily available for the customers. The crispy taco was good just like I would get at any 24hr Mexican drive thru like Filibertos. The burrito came with potatoes, meat, and pico. It was good but lacked something but not sure what maybe more cheese. Once again nothing better than the 24hr joints. The al pastor torta was the one that left me the most disappointed. It had a lot of yellow cheese, meat and lettuce. Not much else. It was hard to hold without everything falling out. We didn't see anything that brought it altogether. This is no where near to the best torta I've ever had. This place is very popular but a place that uses yellow cheese in Mexican food (refried beans and quesadilla excluded) isn't very authentic. read more

This is my only place to get menudo that is fresh and not pungy. I don't necessarily think it's the best in flavor wish It was a bit spicier and fuller in flavour. Haven't tried anything else, so can't say to the rest of the food. Owner and his son are friendly. read more
