LoVeD Plaza Bonita. The line was short-lied to sit down, and when we did get seated we were greeted by the most amazing table I've ever sat at (see attached photo). Our meals were quickly delivered (especially considering it was lunch time and they were rammed). The meal was well-prepared and everything tasted to perfection. I really couldn't fault that part. Why the kissing star? The sopapillas. I was so delighted to be able to order them for my Mexican friend who was unaware of their existence. The look on his face when he bit into one was not good . I folllowed-up with a bite of mine - same - and then finally they made the journey ba k for my wife to try - apparently the same oils to cook the regular food for the sopapillas and the result was not good. First time at Plaza Bonita, but my hubby's been here a bunch for lunch. We showed up around 1:30 pm for a late lunch, and there was still a line! Waited about 10 minutes, though, so not bad. The place is gorgeous inside--every table and chair has these colorful hand-painted designs that totally make you feel like you're in Mexico. Super cool vibe. Our servers were awesome--super nice and quick. We got the fish tacos, Chile Relleno, and a macho burrito, and everything was so good. Oh, and the chips and salsa they bring out for free? Their salsa is legit amazing. I wanted to try like half the menu, but I ran out of room. Guess that just means I'll have to come back and try more next time. This place has the best Mexican food in the area! We've been coming here for a few years now and are never disappointed. My husband loves the Macho burrito and I always get the beef fajitas. The portions are great! Their refried beans and SO GOOD! So I took the wife to lunch at this place today. It was packed and the service was a little slow for my taste, had to ask the server twice for a different salsa, we asked In Spanish and then English and it's like she forgot until we made eye contact towards the end. You will notice as soon as you walk through the doors that it wreaks of Fabulouso. I can't stand the smell of that cleaner and while you are eating, they are cleaning the tables around you with it. Our waiter greeted us with a smile and was on top of empty drinks and checked on us often. Loved that If you follow me, you know that Chips & Salsa is my tell. Well, I've never had liquid salsa before. It was literally the consistency of water. I guess I should thank them as it kept me from eating chips. My chicken taco was okay. Chicken was burnt and there wasn't much of it but I did like the black beans. My husband and Son in Law couldn't eat their chicken burritos. They said that there was some overbearing seasoning that neither one of them could stomach. These are two military guys who eat anything and everything. So they meant it when they said that it was just wasn't edible. The restaurant was packed so we thought we would check it out. I can only assume it's the only Mexican restaurant around. Plaza Bonita fell short of our expatations. The service was OK and the building is bright and colorful. The food was a real miss. Firstly, the chips were a bit old and the hot sauce was watery. Skip these chips - they are not worth the calories. I ordered the fajitas and they were served on a cast iron plate covered in tin foil. Why the tin foil on a served plate. Is it a cleaning shortcut? Is it covering something bad? I could not get the food off the plate without ingesting bits of tin foil with my food. They also mixed tomatoes with the onions and peppers, which is a big no-no. Instead of caramelizing, the veggies get steamed because of all the moisture in the tomatoes. The meat was OK but the veggies were ineddible. I was also served Charro Beans, which are essentially beans in tomato sauce. I didn't eat those either. Stopped by today around lunch time to a nearly full restaurant. Luckily we snagged one of the last booths because we were starving. Our server came over pretty quickly to take our drink order and give us some time to look over the menu. Today we went with the enchilada Suiza and the Tres Amigos. While we waited we ordered a side of guacamole with the chips and salsa. The guacamole had good flavor, but was a bit over blended for me. Our food came out pretty fast and my enchilada were delicious. The chicken was well seasoned and everything was delicious. Chicken taco, chicken enchilada and Chili Relleno - Rice ok, no veggies. Beans well flavored and served hot! Chicken taco 5 stars! Crispy, fresh and served hot! Chicken enchilada and sauce 4 stars - a little too "wet" and something slightly sweet, but in a good non invasive way. Good sized portion! Awesome Mango margarita - 5 stars!!! The Chili Relleno, was fresh breaded, slightly spicy and bursting with flavor - 4 stars. Ask for their hotter salsa if you like HOT! Over all solid four star first time experience!!! Stopped here as it has been recommended by several friends. And it did not disappoint! Pretty much standard fare for a Mexican food restaurant, but very well done and a nice family friendly atmosphere. It was obvious that the table next to us were regulars and in fact one of them ordered a margarita that was not on the menu so we asked :-) So next time we go we will ask for a jalapeno margarita, with top shelf liquors! Met some friends for dinner there........first time to try it. I would classify the food as less than mediocre at best. I had the burrito combo with shredded beef and it was tasteless/really bland. The other folks also rated the dinners as bland. Had the Cadillac margs which were good but $$. The restaurant was filling up around 6:15pm as the hungry Grand Canyon sightseeing crowd started rolling in. Very colorful and cheerful hand painted artwork on walls, tables, chairs, and dishes. You'd enjoy this taco dish if you are a fan of the coleslaw. The base of this soft taco is stuffed with coleslaw, and lots of them. I prefer regular lettuce with tomatoes, and onions. So make a special request to swap out coleslaw if that is also not your preference. But I have to saw this is unique and maybe Americanized. Approx $22. My husband ordered the shredded beef chimichanga. It was crispy and packed with beef. He's had a fair share of chimichangas to say this one lacks ingredients such as CHEESE. This should really be like a burrito, but fried. Approx $20 Food portion sz is average, but since they are served on large plates, it looks like u are getting a generous serving once everything is spread out in a thin layer. I love Plaza Bonita. I have been coming here for years and it is always delicious. Felipe always treats you like family and makes sure you are thanked for coming in. I always order the Pollo Fundido- one of my favorites - but with lent upon us it is convenient they have seafood options and vegetarian as well. They are a little pricier for Mexican food but this place has a 20 minute wait in a Wednesday at 5:00pm-- so you know they are doing something right. The bathroom was spotless and they just repainted the bar and barstools so everything looked really great. read more
