    Asada Torta
    Manny D.

This was by far one of the best tortas I've ever had. The meat was very unique as it was flavored on the savory/spicy side. The torta bread was crispy and fresh. All the ingredients were also fresh and tasted amazing once you took your first bite. The location is right next to the car wash and there is some seating at the car wash so you can eat.

Little cart on the side of the street. Going strong since 1964. 50 years!

So........I see that you can now review businesses in Mexico. Sweet! I was sitting here today looking at some old pictures of mine, and I came across a few from the last time I was down in Tijuana. I can't post most of them (kidding Marsha...kidding) ;-), but I'll be damned if I don't write a review and post a few pictures from the greatest little street side stand in all of Tijuana. A little back story first................... Tortas Wash Mobile was founded in 1964. From what I have read, it used to be in front of one of Tijuanas first car wash places. 50 years later, the car wash is long gone but the Torta stand is still there! It is a little unassuming cart that just sits there on the side of the street. If you are taking a taxi from the border, most, if not all the guys know where it is. If they don't, tell them to drive down Agua Caliente and drop you off at the gas station on the corner of Agua Caliente and Jalisco. Look down the street and you will see smoke filling the air. You are a hundred or so yards away from one of the best sandwiches you will ever sink your teeth into. You can only get one thing at Wash Mobile........The Carne Asada Torta. They have been doing it for 50 years and I bet it hasn't changed one bit. When you walk up to the stand, you are greeted by the whole crew. They are extremely friendly and even if your Spanish is weak, you can still get by without a problem. There are usually about 3-4 guys working. One guy grilling up the steak, one guy assembling the Tortas, one guy grabbing drinks, and one guy taking money. Its a streamlined operation for sure. You can get your Torta one of a few ways. The condiments they have are mayonnaise, avocado/guacamole, pickled onions/tomatoes and hot sauce. That's it. No need for anything else. I usually get mine with just carne asada and guacamole. I'm a simple man and this type of preparation lets you enjoy the flavors of the well marinated meat. Once in awhile I'll get it with the onion/tomato mix and some hot sauce. Any way you get it, you will surely love it. I promise! They cut a telera style roll in half and throw it on the grill to crisp it up. Once that is nice and toasty/crunchy (still soft in the middle though), they assemble your Torta, place it in a paper wrapper and hand it over. You unwrap your Torta and start to dig in. You sink your teeth into that delicious bread. You bite in and get the cool avocado along with pieces of perfectly marinated carne asada. You swallow that first bite and a smile comes across your face. You grab your Coke and take a swig to wash it down. Back into the Torta. Bread and steak and avocado, repeat over and over. Soon, you are taking your last bite. Sadness comes across you. There is only one thing left to do.............. Order another! "Uno mas, por favor"! Happy face is instantly back! Tortas Wash Mobile is only open during the morning/early afternoon hours. Don't be scared of Tijuana. Head down there in the morning and get yourself one of these Tortas. It's totally worth waiting in that long line to come back to the US. I cannot say enough about how great this sandwich is. It's so simple yet so delicious. It's without a doubt, one of my top 5 (maybe even top 3) favorite sandwiches of all time. You can get two Tortas and a Coke for a little under $9.00 (Early 2013 prices). I probably won't be able to make it down to TJ for a long long time, but my memories and pictures will keep me happy and remind me of how fantastic and delicious this Torta is! Wash Mobile, you guys are simply the best! Thanks for the great memories. Hopefully we will meet again sometime soon!

After eating our way through Baja for the past four days you would think the group of boss chefs would be sated. Then Tortas Wash Mobile comes rolling up, and the aromas of carne getting the asada treatment throws everyone into a full on feeding frenzy. Smoky, juicy, grilled steak torta with grilled pressed and mayonnaised telera bun, guacamole, pickled onions, fresh tomatoes and hot sauce. Some of the chefs had to eat two, and three. It was insane. My mouth is watering just writing this and I have TO STOP NOW. :-D

Tortas Wash Mobile!! Awesome food and service!

I've been here twice and they're supposed to be open till three but they close when they run out between 1pm and 230pm. Have wasted my time here twice would rather go to the one behind the racetrack...

This was the best carne asada torta I have ever had! Everything is fresh made so there's not even a need for refrigeration. Once everything is gone, it's gone! Simple construct; bread, meat, mayo, tomato, avocado, and pickled onions. But, the flavor was so on point! The meat had the perfect char to it and stuffed with copious amounts. All the condiments were fresh and complimented everything else in the torta. This is the spot to be. It's the only thing they serve and that's the only thing they need to serve. People come here to get some damn good tortas. Buy the sandwich; stand on the sidewalk and stuff your face with delicious bread and meat. It's a must try and y'all should go get it!

World famous carne asada on torta roll with everything! Mayo, pickled onions, tomatoes and guacamole. So delicioso!

I was so lucky to be staying near this culinary landmark that I was first in line on my second day in Tj. The cart opens around 8, but the smoky smell of fresh grilled carne asada draws you in by 7:30. The 3 or 4 guys were so friendly, outgoing, and helpful. I researched Yelp and figured out how and what to order before I got there... which is a carne asada torta. Everything is made to order and the bread is fresh baked. I got mine with the usual suspects... mayo, avocado, and pickled onions. I should have skipped the tomatoes, but that's neither here nor there. This might be my favorite sandwich of all time!

How they serve you your torta. Top bun on the side.

Sabrosos Elotes Y Vasitos is quite a grandiose name for a corn cart, especially for a street vendor…read morewho only sells elotes. But what's in a name, when a street vendor sells delicious corn? I actually visited "Sr. Elote" in September, 2018, and I'm just getting around to publishing my review. Sorry for the delay... Early every evening, the operator of this Sabrosos Elotes, I'll call him "The Corn Guy," begins his rounds under the famous Tijuana Arch, and the corner of Articulo 123 and Av. Revolución. Depending on business, he may spend his whole evening under the arch, catering to locals and tourists alike. But if it's a slow night, I've seen him push his cart downhill, down Av. Revolución, and wind up on Av. Coahuila, or on "The Alley," in front of one of the many honky tonk bars that line the streets of the infamous Zona Norte. He'll wait in front of such dives as Adelitas or Hong Kong Club for bar patrons to stumble out of the bars, intoxicated by too much booze or too many hookers... nothing like an ear of corn after spending time with an escort, or watching the showgirls at one of the many neighborhood nightclubs. In most parts of Mexico, elotes are roasted corn on the cob, sold from a corn cart by a street vendor, and the corn is usually roasted, or grilled, over hot coals, on-site. However in Tijuana, elotes are usually boiled rather than roasted, and that's the way "The Corn Guy" sells his corn, as it's boiled in a large pan that sits on top of his cart. Salt, pepper, lime juice, mayonnaise and hot sauce are offered as condiments. The customers can choose the corn according to their preference, as Sabrosos Elotes Y Vasitos sells the corn on the cob as an elote, or as an esquite, which is when the kernels are cut from the cob and placed in a styrafoam cup, with the condiments mixed in. Either way its presented, the cooked corn makes a delicious snack! I caught up with Sabrosos Elotes Y Vasitos as he had parked his cart in front of the Hotel La Posada, on the north side of Articulo 123, across from the plaza, just west of the arch, and got to watch "The Corn Guy" in action, selling corn and waiting on customers. Most of his customers seemed to prefer their corn in a cup, sold as an esquite; I prefer my corn on the cob. I took the plunge and purchased an elote from "The Corn Guy" at Sabrosos Elotes Y Vasitos. He asked me what toppings I wanted, and I told him mayonnaise, lime juice and hot sauce. He grabbed an ear of corn from a pile that was warming in the tub, out of the water, squeezed chipotle mayonnaise on it, applied picante sauce, and doused the elote with lime juice. He handed me the corn, and I handed him MEX $8.00, which was the price of the elote. I prefer my corn grilled or roasted, rather than boiled, but when you're on the streets of Tijuana's Zona Norte, the corn is boiled, and Sabrosos Elotes Y Vasitos cooks delicious corn. The corn was cooked perfectly, as it was firm, with just a bit of crunch, and the condiments were fresh and tasty. Not to mention that "The Corn Guy" is quite friendly... but during the time of my visit he was quite busy, so I really didn't get the chance to chat with him. Sabrosos Elotes Y Vasitos makes great elotes in Tijuana's Zona Norte! You'll love their fine corn, you'll love their friendly banter, and you'll enjoy amazing corn, either on the cob, or in a bowl, mixed with hot sauce salt, pepper, lime juice and mayonnaise. Any you you look at it, Sabrosos Elotes Y Vasitos steams amazing corn, on Av. Revolucion, in downtown Tijuana, under the arch.
