This tiny 25 seat restaurant is family owned and operated and has a homey feel - sort of like visiting relatives in Italy. Parking is available in the lot in front of the line of shops in Gulf Gate. There is a big step up into the restaurant from the sidewalk Several things to expect: Size and speed - make a reservation. Weekends will be busy, noisy and slow. The kitchen is small, Leonardo the only chef. Be patient and settle in Language - make believe you are not in the USA. Marcia is from Brazil and speaks fluent Portuguese, passable Spanish and a little Italian. English, not so much. Take your time here and enjoy your time with her - she's delightful and the work to communicate is part of the fun! Alcohol = Wine - the wine list is 100% Italian and offers a great range of flavors and price points. Explore! Fresh bread and a marinated eggplant "spaghetti" are table greeters. The Veal Parmigiana was outstanding! The raviolis were fresh and tasty but my only criticism is they could have used more of the billed ingredient (truffles, eggplant) The desserts- OMG - Marcia makes the lemon cake herself. I cannot say enough amazing things about Totellino Bistrot!! The owners are SO welcoming and passionate about food, wine and experience! I had the most delicious glass of Chianti & started with a Cesar salad. For dinner I had the bolognese and OMG! The pasta is made in house! It was by far the most delicious bolognese I've ever had! The ambiance was great, it felt like I was visiting a relative. However the food was not, we tried 3 dishes. None of them had flavor. It was all super bland and unsalted. The prices were really high for the amount of bland food you get. I would have paid double for some flavor. Save some money and go to Olive Garden. They have soooo many great places in a 2 block radius from here, we will never return. read more

Still our favorite Italian food in Sarasota. So of course we made reservations for Valentine's Day. Instead of going with my go to of lasagna,I tried their Ossobuco with two types of Tortellini's on the side. The dish was very good but I missed not having their delicious Bolognese sauce. My wife had her usual, ravioli with bolognese sauce. She ate every bit and used their delicious homemade Italian bread to get all the sauce. Delicious. It's really a special place. All the pasta is handmade and all his cheese fillings are also handmade. Leo, the owner and chef, is from Bologna and is a fantastic chef. He is also incredibly friendly. I asked him what his best pasta dish was and of course it was the ravioli Bolognese. Damn, it was so freaking good. The filling was smooth and creamy. The pasta was sturdy and smooth to eat. And his sauce was well balanced. My wife gorgonzola was also excellent. Pungent and strong, the cheese sauce was fantastic. I have found my pasta place. Just average food. Went there for their veal parm - featured & pictured on their website. Looked good on website. Guess what? They no LONGER SERVE VEAL!!!!! Ordered 2 other dishes ( they were just ok )& asked if we could change the sauce on the side dish ( tiny potion on same plate ) of pastas - was told sure. Was NOT told - extra charge $5 each for one table spoon or so of another sauce!! Also not told there is an extra charge for using a credit card!! Who doesn't use a card. Wine we liked on their online wine list was no longer on the list at the restaurant. Nothing we really wanted & the wine was VERY OVERPRICED. Noticed that no tables had bread . Asked & was told they would get some for us. Served a couple of slices with a pat of butter. Had to ask for olive oil. Don't they know this is supposed to be an ITALIAN restaurant?? Also seating was terrible - we had a reservation & was given a 2 top with a closeup view of the men's room. People came later - no reservation - told to sit wherever they wanted!! We were unable to get reservation in our usual spot and decided ,after reading some good review, to give Tortellini Bistrot in Gulf Gate a try. This is a real find!! I had the shrimp puttanesca, and my husband enjoyed the spinach ravioli pesto. Those dishes were fresh and flavorful and served hot. Atman (sp?) as chef made excellent recommendations and Sierra attentive service.. This is a great local neighborhood restaurant with fresh ingredients. attention to detail. Superb! Husband Leonardo is the Italian chef from Bologna, Italy. His dishes are fresh and full of flavor without being heavy on the sauce. Oh the sauce, is light and you must eat their homemade crusty Italian bread. Did I mention that everything is homemade, the bread, the pasta, the sauce, all made in house by Leonardo. His wife, Macia, hoping I spelled it correctly, an enchanting hostess from Brazil, is the main server, front end greeter, chief social distancing hostess, and disinfecting goddess. She doesn't stop for one moment and yet is totally gracious to each guest. You really do feel like you are visiting your friends in their home and they are so happy to share the time with you. The dishes are centered on the homemade tortellini, raviolis, fettuccine or spaghetti. There is absolutely no denying that the pasta is fresh and made daily. There are some appetizers, Caesar or House salad, and homemade desserts. There is a one page list of wines and sodas. The Moscato was delicious and it paired beautifully with my Tortellini Alfredo. Hubby had a red with his Ravioli Bolognese. Both dishes were a good portion without being stuffy. There really are no leftovers and there is no hurry to rush. Don't rush for you know your meal is being prepared just for you. Plan on sitting, , indulging yourself in conversation, savor, and sip your meal and drink for this is an intimate welcoming bistro that I truly hope is successful. Extremely tender gnocchis stuffed with a Gorgonzola mixture and accompanied by a cream sauce. Much better than I can even attempt to describe. Great homemade crusty bread basket. The menu has changed since the photos were taken and this is new. Sorry I didn't take new menu photos this time. We had a valpolicella ripasso wine that was also one of the better Italian reds we've had in quite some time - complex but on the fruity side - not oaky, not sweet. Hubby and I loved the ravioli bolognese, meatballs, eh, he makes his lamb and with his beef and sausage and I don't care for lamb so that kind of ruin those for me, chicken. Wow! What a little gem this place is! We arrived into Siesta Key for a little getaway, went to Costco for supplies, then started searching Yelp and Google for a place to eat. I stumbled upon this bistro as we tried searching Italian restaurants. It's in a neat area with plenty of other restaurants nearby so we decided to check it out, knowing we had options nearby. I'd read that reservations were recommended but we walked in anyway. We were immediately greeted by a lovely woman who asked if we'd made reservations, to which we replied sadly, no. She offered us a nice high top table for two, perfect for our needs. We were brought menus, wine list and a basket of bread along with small side dish of what I think she said was eggplant (whatever it was, it was delicious). We had a glass of red wine and a beer that I've never encountered before, they had two types of it #4 (lager) and #6 which was darker and really tasty, almost a cider note to it. I ordered the Tagliatelle Shrimp Puttanesca and my girlfriend had the Ravioli Bolognese. Both of these meals were on point and so flavorful. The portion size was just perfect, as one would get in Europe. We then had tiramisu and a cannoli, so tasty! It was my birthday so the woman who sat us brought out the tiramisu with a candle on it and sang happy birthday to me. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and were so glad we took the chance! This is a small, family run restaurant in Gulf Gate and the food is delicious! I suggest making a reservation. They welcome you warmly with fresh slices of homemade bread served with butter and a small dish of marinated eggplant which we enjoyed. We each had a glass of wine to start and ordered a Caesar salad to share but neither of us liked the dressing - it tasted like mayonnaise and was missing the flavors of a good Caesar. The entrees made up for the salad - we had chicken parm (it was a daily special the night we went) which came with a side of fettuccine with marinara and a mixed salad. We also had the cheese ravioli (pasta dough made with spinach) with fried artichokes in a creamy sauce and that was outstanding! Portions are decent; between the two meals we had enough left for a small lunch for 1. Now the dessert! We shared a slice of the house made lemon cake and if you like lemon, get this! It's more like a pie with a buttery crust and a sweet and tangy filling. Loved it! Service was good, and the lady who took care of us is one of the owners. She speaks very little English and has the most charming accent and is very kind. I didn't give 5 stars because I thought the Caesar was a miss-if I could give 4.5 I would because everything else was superb. read more

We had called several other local Italian joints on Saturday night to order takeout and when none of them would take orders, Tortellino Bistrot came through We ordered gnocchi bolognese combining a few items on the menu, and it didn't disappoint. The gnocchi was light and perfectly pillow, the bolognese was rich and meaty with incredibly melded vegetable and beef flavors. When I picked up the order, I would have loved to stay as the restaurant was cozy and quiet with lots of options for wine pairings with dinner. Unfortunately, we were packing that night to leave the following morning so we decided on dinner in, but will definitely head back for an in-restaurant dining experience next time we are in Siesta Key! read more

Great stuffed pasta, atmosphere is quaint, wine is nice and service is wonderful! The octopus appetizer is amazingly delicious! We loved it so much my husband had it as an entree with pasta and loved it! I had the artichoke Tortelloni in a cream sauce and our friend had the lobster tortelloni in a lobster sauce with half a lobster tail. He loved his and it was delicious but I felt mine was too cheesy and creamy which is not my favorite way to have my pasta. Most of the pastas are made this way. Saw other great reviews of this little bistro and thought I better check this place out. Definitely glad that I did. From the moment I walked in, I could tell that this was a special spot that I was going to enjoy. The tables were all laid out beautifully and the whole feel of the restaurant was relaxing and welcoming. My server was a gem of a person and she made some terrific recommendations which I heartily agreed sounded amazing. What I didn't know is how amazing they would really be. The chef created this beautiful combination of the two dishes that I could not make my mind up between... Tortellini with Porcini Mushrooms and Tortellini with Parmesan and Basil. Oh my goodness were they extraordinary but they were the perfect complement for each other. Also the pasta was some of the tenderest and tastiest that I have ever had. Although the meal did not seem over sized, I was completely full before I could even finish. I had them box it up and it was equally delicious the next day as a nice snack. At the end of the meal, I loved the cute little wooden treasure box that they used to bring out the check. Very unique twist that made this wonderful meal even more enjoyable. Wife had osso bucco and it was ridicolous and I had the veal parm. Then we ordered cannoli and panacota. Again ridicolus good. True family business. Husband is the only cook, wife waits on tables and their daughter is the host and busser. 7 tables only make a reservation a few days before at least and enjoy your evening.
