We stopped here on our way from New Orleans to Memphis, and what a treat! Their guac is fantastic. The food was delicious. We had the pork tacos and the shrimp tacos. Eh... I had the huge burrito and a chili cheese relleno. I put the sauce in the side for which I am grateful. I am traveling through for work so there may be better dishes. The workers were also really nice and accommodating and the food was ready really fast. Now the food. The relleno egg white layer was way thick and the cheese inside was super thick and tasted like cheap American cheese. A little cheddar cheese is all it needs. Let the chili speak for itself. I chose the burrito because of the guacamole, pico and sour cream. I was sad it was on top and not inside like in most places. The fajita steak was super salty with not much other taste. I ate about 1/4 of it and decided to eat chips to fill me up the rest of the way. Overall - there are a ton of things on the menu so you might find something you like. read more

My family and I will not be returning to Tortilla Soup as this has been one of the worst dining experiences I've had in my 60 years on this earth. I'm going to try to keep this short, but between the substandard food, the skimpy portions and the very rude manager, I honestly can not recommend this place to anyone. Just to give an example of this restaurant's policies, if you order a single fajita, you get two sides. If you and someone else order a double fajita, you still only get two sides, (instead of the 4 sides as is the case with any any other restaurant). You will also receive the fajita condiments for only one person, instead of two. Any additional condiments, will be at an additional cost. While I did complain to the manager about this and she did say that she would not charge us for the additional condiments, when the bill came, it did show that she actually did charge us. When we brought that to her attention and let her know that we wouldn't be back, she said 'fine' and that she was glad we wouldn't be back! Anyway, what it boils down to, is that there are several more Mexican restaurants in this area that do take pride in what they serve their customers and are a lot more honest! I am posting just a couple of photos that do show the small tortillas and size (or lack there of), of the skimpy portions. There are places where the food is epic and that's what makes people go back, and then there are places that people go to because they have no other options, or they don't know better. I think this place falls into the later category. The service was very friendly, polite, swift, and pleasant, and that gets a whole star alone. The chips and salsa were good, and I ate plenty of them. The sweet tea was nice and I got refilled whenever I needed. That's the good. The place is called tortilla soup so of course I ordered it. Dark bland sweet salty broth with almost no ingredients inside save for a few cheese curds, and a ton of tortilla strips. Which could be okay I suppose, but it was not. Oily, devoid of flavor, and missing any substance to make it stand out as the namesake of the restaurant. The enchiladas can be covered in one of five sauces (five!), red, white, tex-mex, mushroom poblano, and one other I forgot. I opted for the tex-mex which is was told was like marinara sauce. Well, it wasn't, with big chunks of meat, and a salsa type sauce I doubt there was a tomato to be found in the sauce, it was not good, ruined the enchiladas, and was a mistake to order. The enchilada themselves were okay, just cheese and tortilla so how could it be bad, but I don't know what kind of cheese was in there but I didn't enjoy it. Camping nearby and craved Mexican food. Had to try name sake Tortilla Soup. I recommend large 8oz bowl with lots of flavor. The service is more than great. The manager was very kind and attentive with us. Food was great. This location is with any doubt way better than the one in Denham Springs Louisiana, where the food was bad and got us sick, and the manager refused to help us with the excuse that because the shrimp was fried, all the bacterias died because the hot oil. Surprised to see they could quickly seat and handle a group of 15 (adults and children). The Carna Asada and Cheese - Chicken were both very flavorful and cooked to perfection. Everything I had at Tortilla Soup was delicious, except the black bean soup which was good, not great. They have the best beef flauta I've eaten. The chips were thin and crispy, very fresh. They are accompanied by a lightly spicy salsa. I also had the crispy taco and beef enchilada; both were excellent. The waiter was friendly and attentive. The restauraunt itself was large, new, and well decorated. The building appears new. I will definitely easy here again if i am in the area. If you have someone with you who doesn't like Mexican food, they also have southern fried plates like chicken or shrimp and fries. read more

Quick and friendly service. If looking for a close to California Mexican restaurant this is your place. If not it's still a great place. Something about the name just kind of throws me off, I initially thought the place was going to be some type of Cambell's soup buffet line, it was not. By far, the cleanest and my culturally vibing Mexican brothel, I mean restaurant, I've been to north of the border. I know they pay their taxes like good Americans because they even had a few crackers in there waiting tables. Looks like they have some hella good drink specials during the week and the bar is extremely large. I had lunch today, so I'm going with that as the reason maybe I was expecting my food to have a little more flavor as far as the seasoning and spices go.
