Realize the kids are gonna be at the Silo entrance further down so trek back to car and drive there. Grab my large jacket and thankfully mine and the kid's lunch in a foil cooler shopping bag and my now only half filled (with water) 40 oz Stanley. The trek from my car to the silo entrance to the kids meeting point inside was LONG. It felt like I had come from hot yoga at this point with all the walking and sun now coming out. It was the beginning of some regrets. But glad I grabbed everything because there was no going back to the car at this point with car over a miles away. Heavy jacket stayed tied around my waist for the rest of the day like a bag of heavy rocks. Add to this the shiny foil bag and my nearly empty 40 oz Stanley with no water fountains in sight. Aside from my large load I toted around all day, the activities around this pumpkin patch are very fun and plentiful. The haunted house is very scary and some little kids will cry from it so be warned. The staff were nice. I understand they want us to buy water but that is where I took away the star because no water fountains. As we were coming home from a night away, we wanted to stop and have a moment with our little amongst the pumpkins and support an East Bay pumpkin patch. As we were about to pass Livermore, we saw signage and oodles of fun happening for G&M Farms so we pulled off. There is so much to do here! You can grab a red Radio Flyer wagon and truly go hunting for the perfect pumpkin within the patch itself, or if you're on the hunt for more smaller pumpkins/gourds there is a whole gift shop/farm store that is so incredibly cute for basically every pumpkin vibe you can imagine. Plenty of spots to stop and take pictures with friends or family. There's a corn maze, drinks/snacks like mini donuts, popcorn, and corn dogs, and speaking of corn..oh-em-gee! Truly wanted to share a review for this reason alone. Looking for a sensory activity for your little? There is not a sandbox, but a giant CORN box for play. The adults also tried it (essentially we just put our feet in and it felt surprisingly really nice. Something unexpected and truly unique, fun, and interactive. We also noticed a few other activities on the pumpkin patch side like a tractor/train ride and I'm not sure if there was a petting zoo? They charge $15 to get in, but it was discounted to $12 per person since we went on a weekday. My daughter is almost 2 years old, and the main attraction that she was interested in the animals. Since it was not too busy, she also got to enjoy the giant pillow bouncer. We ran through bales of hay, played in the corn pit, and enjoyed some fresh homemade pumpkin bread from the snack shack. Overall, we had a great time despite being able to utilize many attractions since she wasn't old enough. I would say that the rest of the attractions would be perfect for ages three and up. I should also mention 2 & under are free, so there's quite a bit got a two year old to do considering. We hung around for over two hours having fun as a family, until the mosquitoes started coming out after sunset, If you're local to the area, I definitely think it's worth the visit! As a mother, and a teacher for TK/kindergartners, and with a 80 year-old Owner I believe the gentleman running this tortoise ranch needs a bit of an update. He is very much a man of the times which is fine because he reminds me of my old grandpa who was short into the point but somewhat blunt. His wife also repeated everything he said and reiterated it numerous times and would get more annoyed at my five-year- old classroom children as they, like most children do, would forget things. They both seem to get rather irritated with the younger group of children. I felt bad for the children getting reprimanded, and I did have to raise my own voice to ask the wife to talk to the children in a nicer tone, and I felt bad for the children as well since they forget things right after they said. That being said, the older fifth graders that went on this tortoise tour rather enjoyed it, but they found a few vocabulary words funny, and later asked us, " what's a drug sniffing dog?" And " how can sex change an animal?" which were both statements spoken to both (younger-TK & Kinders AND older 3rd-5th graders) Group of children. Ughhhhh Since we're in Silicon Valley, verbally speaking to children for 20 minutes about concepts of tortoises or any animal without a visual aid is very cumbersome. My TK and kindergarten children cannot sit still for a five minute digital book let alone sit still for 20 minutes and three of them started to fall asleep as they sat crisscross, applesauce, and nodded their heads off. One of my five-year-olds could not sit still, and he got up a couple of times and the owner reprimanded him and raised his voice saying, "hey you take a seat! " it was rather alarming to my five year-old classroom child so I had to whisper and talk to him off to the side so he didn't start crying. The tortoise feeding is very interesting and they have strict protocols!! The owners are very aware that most parents do not watch their children, but as a educator/teacher, we are constantly supervising our children, so the ratio was 1 to 14, and we would only allow about eight children in the tortoise area with four teachers watching. We rotated through our children since we had a rather large group, but it seemed to bother the owners because not all the children were in the pin at the same time. It seemed a bit chaotic but then again we also had a group of about 35 children in a rather small space. Overall, I do not think we will ever come back to this particular tortoise ranch, but they were rather interesting, and I really do worry about the cleanliness of everything since the tortoises walk, eat and poop, and pee all in the same vicinities of where we were walking. We made sure all the children wiped off their feet at the park nearby, and some of them stepped in tortoise number two, so they were rather disgusted, and their shoes stunk. On a happier note, I'm glad some of the children got to see tortoises granted at least five of my children were terrified of the animals and their hard shells. Lol then again they are four and five years old and everything is new to them. We would've been better off going to the library.Hee

Tip: follow them on instagram to get the latest updates on hours and available fruits for picking. The place is quite large, so you'll need to pay for their tractor ride ($4) to get from station to station. We came around 10:00 a.m. on a Monday and the place wasn't crowded. We picked up our baskets and then let the kids place around their tree house for a little bit before getting on the tractor. Our first stop was peaches and apricots. The peaches were pretty low hanging, and the kids were so excited to pick them. However, there weren't that many ripe ones at this time. There were more ripe apricots, and they were sweet and juicy. Our next stop was the strawberry station where there were plenty of ripe strawberries. Our last stop was the cherry station. Our driver directed us to the last row where we could find ladders. Sure enough the cherries were plentiful and so sweet and juicy. There were even kid size ladders for the littles ones. The fruits were 100 times better than what you'll find at the grocery store, and the kids had so much fun picking their own fruits. If you need a fun activity with the kids, I high recommend coming here.
