Great place to stay! Pool is nice and they have two on site! No food options on site is not a problem. There are restaurants ALL AROUND YOU! Not sure why people would complain about that. WiFi is spotty but you're on vacation and at the beach. Disconnect for a bit it won't kill you! Front desk staff was awesome anytime we had a question! We will be back. We've stayed here a few times now. Money well spent! Some of these low ratings are just laughable. People are allowed to have opinions, all I'm saying is the things being complained about are a little sad! We prepaid 5 nights starting 9/23/24. Hurricane Helene was on the way so we asked if we would get a refund and they said yes, we would have to go through Expedia. Our 1st day went fine. Our 2nd day, they moved us from our beautiful gulf front room to a room upstairs so they could sand bag our original room for the hurricane. On the 3rd morning, we were told we had to mandatory evacuate. We had to scramble to find another hotel to stay at, and had to pay for those nights as well, of course. Tortuga Inn will not refund our money and Expedia says they can't refund our money because Tortuga Inn won't. My credit card company tried to help also, but Tortuga Inn waited until almost the last day they legally had to respond before the ruling would go in my favor, then said no because we "never cancelled." (We were told to leave and handed our key to a person at the office. It's been a 2 month ordeal trying to get a refund and it looks like we are screwed. I will never ever consider staying at this shady establishment again! read more

This poor review is not for Tortuga Inn Resort itself, it's for management. In September 2024 we prepaid for a five night stay at Tortuga Inn. Unfortunately, hurricane Helene was said to hit the island two days after we got there. There was a MANDATORY EVACUATION. Since we prepaid for the five nights, we asked about getting the three night refund. The woman at the desk said yes just contact Expedia and they will get in touch with us And arrange for the refund. Well after two months of dealing with the credit card company Expedia and Tortuga, we have had nothing but a run around. Management said we'd get the refund and here we are trying to recuperate our three night payment at Tortuga. We looked forward to our expensive beach vacation but Mother Nature didn't cooperate! We understand what happened but we're so disappointed in the way we were treated. They told us because it was mandatory that we would get our money back. Didn't happen....I would think twice about staying here. read more

A nice place. Right across the road from a quiet and private beach. Nice accommodations. The sound side of the resort is nice but there is nowhere to sit except on the dock. Quality accommodations. Good service. The two negatives are the no seating on the sound side and the smoking area. It's in the corner of a parking lot, where you feel like the resort reject. The shuttle is very convenient with stops going in both directions right outside the resort. Great restaurants within walking distance or the whole island via shuttle. read more

I booked a deluxe garden suite four months ago. When I arrived on June 28th I was given a small standard room on a second floor. I wasn't checked in till after 4:00pm because according to the front office the rooms weren't ready. Meanwhile 4 other groups of guests were checked in as soon as they walked in. When I was finally checked in to the room I paid for the fans didn't work, the lights flickered on and off all night. The sliding doors didn't locked adding concern for my 2 year old granddaughter. The cushions on living room furniture and dining chairs were grossly dirty. The staff was rude as though I caused the mixup of their screw up. The place is very dated for the money they charge not to mention the grounds are not well kept. It could use serious maintenance. I definitely will not be staying there ever again. To add insult to injury, I was offered a $3 bottle of water for my inconvenience and bad experience. read more

We were in town for a wedding and the entire bridal party stayed here. We got a basic room with a king sized bed. There was a huge walk-in closet to hang our clothes and there was also a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker along with dishes, cups and paper towels. Some of our other friends had rooms with actual kitchens that were nice but we felt that we didn't need a full kitchen. The bathroom was big and clean and plenty of towels were available. The mattress was harder than we're used to but we were able to sleep soundly. Everyone working at the front desk was friendly and it appeared that the grounds were well maintained. The pool and area around the pool was clean. The Tortuga is steps from the beach and they offer beach chairs and umbrellas which was awesome. It was nothing fancy but our entire group enjoyed staying here and I would personally recommend staying here. Prices were also very reasonable. read more

I couldn't decide between 2 or 3 stars, so I've decided to round up in this case. The rooms were clean. Beds were comfortable. We stayed in a two bedroom and thought the prices were reasonable. The pool was clean- it was a little warmer than I would have liked on such hot days, but it wasn't overcrowded. That being said, every single member of our party had a rude encounter with the staff- but then we found that this is a problem with a lot of service related places on Anna Maria island. If you're a self-sufficient traveler and don't mind being snapped at for no reason by a grouchy front desk clerk the two times you actually have to deal with them and you're just looking for a comfortable room with a pool, then by all means, stay here. If you're looking for great service and hospitality on top of great accomodations, I suggest you look elsewhere. read more

I have mixed feelings after a long weekend at the Tortuga Inn earlier this month. Having never been to Anna Maria Island before, I relied heavily on Trip Advisor in selecting a place to stay. There are tons of cute cottages and condos on the island, but we were only staying the weekend, and most of those require a full week stay during the high season. In retrospect, it would have been cheaper to rent a condo for a week than stay 3 nights at the Tortuga Inn. Because of rave reviews I'd read on other websites and prices that I consider to be very high for a hotel in Florida, I had high expectations and was disappointed. It's a cute litttle independent inn, but NOT luxorious, so I feel that the marketing materials are fairly misleading. Plusses: location is great, very close to the Cortez bridge for access to Bradenton, and also close to some great restaurants and bars on the island. The "private" beach is nicely equipped with chairs, umbrellas and towels for guests, which is huge when you arrive by plane. Landscaping is pretty and gives the grounds a tropical fee. We didn't have any negative interactions with staff, although check in and check out were slightly more tedious than at larger hotels. Minuses: Very poor quality linens, including sheets and towels. Most rooms have doors that open onto a shared balcony, in the style of cheap, roadside motels. This means that you cannot open your window shades if you want any privacy. For me, being a non-Floridian, when I stay at the beach, I want to open the blinds and let the sunshine into my room, or at least be able to sit on a balcony and enjoy the weather. You can't really do either of those very easily at the Tortuga without interacting with all of the other guests. To sum up, I think if the price for even the smaller, non-suite rooms here were not in line with a 5-star hotel in a major metropolitan area and if the marketing had not led me to expect total luxury, we would have had a great stay at the Tortuga Inn and been happy with it. But given the heightened expectations, we felt let down and would not splurge here again. read more

Came across this gem while searching for a place to stay because my brother was going to be in Anna Maria Island for a few days from Atlanta. Love everything about it: the location, the great service, the room, the cleanness, the beachy decor, the view, the pool, etc., etc., etc. For next time I got my eye on the rooms that oversee the bay and that have a private pool! And for those looking for a wedding venue, they have a beautifully wooden built casita /tikki on the beach. There was a wedding while we were there, and it look beautiful! A bunch of girl friends and I stayed here this past weekend and we had such an amazing time! Our room on the second floor was extremely spacious and came with a fully equipped kitchen and washer/dryer unit. The pool area was a bit small, but the beautiful beach across the street made up for that. There were beach chairs available to use for hotel guests only, which is a nice perk. I would stay here again and I would recommend this place for others to stay while on vacation. read more

Great location just steps from the beach and a short walk to restaurants and shops. Nice enough rooms but nothing fancy. Not a good first impression ... we had to keep poking and following up to get our terribly LOUD squeaky bed situation addressed (I mean don't move slightly let alone anything else ;)). Finally they gave us another room (offering to help us move all our partially unpacked stuff would have been nice... but no) And then....I wasn't a happy camper after walking back from an evening out on a very cool (for Florida! lol) night to discover there would be no hot shower for me because we didn't have hot water in our room! Are you kidding me?!? This was fixed around 10:00am the next morning. There's more but I think you get the idea. Yes, Diana the Manager tried her best to make up for it but really these things wouldn't have happened had the resort been well run and managed with attention to detail. read more

We stayed in room 232 at the Tortuga Inn on Anna Maria Island for two weeks in February '16. EVERYTHING was fabulous! It was bright and airy with large sliders that opened. Two bedrooms, one bath - we would have preferred a second bath but it wasn't a big issue. The suite was bright and clean, nicely furnished. We didn't get daily housecleaning since we were on the weekly rate. Not a problem. Our daughter & grandson joined us for a week but we still had plenty of room. The heated pool and the entire site were always clean and neat and beautifully landscaped. The location is ideal; walking distance to bars and restaurants and directly across the street from the beach. The free Anna Maria trolley stops directly in front and runs every 20 minutes. On the beach, Tortuga had an ample supply of chaise lounges available for their guests. They also provided beach umbrellas and beach chairs at no cost. They readily exchanged used beach towels for fresh ones as often as you wished. We hated to leave! read more

We came to tortuga inn for a quick weekend trip with our toddler and my in-laws. My in-laws brought their boat to use the hotel's boat slip and trailer parking, set up in advance at booking. When we all went to get checked in, one blonde woman at the desk stated there was no trailer parking available under my in-laws reservation. My in-laws informed the front desk this was arranged when they called to book. The front desk all started chiming in (4 women) stating we "specifically informed the man when the reservation was made that there was no trailer parking" and "we told the other man that was in here there was no parking" and that he could check out the Cortez marina (which rents by the month...). My father in law asked them why there was no parking and a brunette older lady bluntly and rudely (she was very annoyed) responded "because there is no trailer parking". I am following my toddler around the gift shop listening to this back and forth and how all of them treated my in-laws when after a few minutes, the original woman said "oh wait, I do see you have a reservation here for trailer parking". I laughed to myself at how silly this whole ordeal had been and then I am not kidding you, ALL FOUR of these front desk women snapped their heads to look at me and call me out.... They asked me "is there something wrong miss" to which I replied "yes, that was a cluster" and then got in return "I'm just a person". I want to stress in this review... there was NO apology. No acknowledgment of screw up from any of them. They were more concerned about being right than about recognizing they were wrong. This set the whole tone for the rest of the weekend for me (which was a birthday gift for me) to the point I refused to walk in to the front office for anything after this. These slips and trailer parking come with additional fees, to be treated so poorly was completely unacceptable. They gave my son a lollipop as a way to recover, again no apology. My rating was all I could give although we did enjoy our weekend, the customer service here was absolutely horrendous and should be addressed. read more

Located on the intercoastal, it is one of the nicest doggy-friendly places around. I always get that at-home feeling when I'm here and have not had one bad experience here. There is such a wide variety of rooms. From studios to two bedrooms.... there is a boat dock and right accross the street is their private beach area with chairs, umbrellas and towels available to all guests. This is a hassle free get away. Very clean, private and if you have obnoxious children or pets, please do not come! read more

A poorly run establishment. Our stay demonstrated to us time and time again that the staff here consistently provides incorrect information and completely fails at creating a relaxing and enjoyable visit. When we arrived, the water heater was broken. We called to tell them this, and the failed to communicate this to the maintenance staff. When the staff finally came to fix after another phone call, they managed to flood our room by removing a water plug from the water heater. Never apologized, made a mess, and made us late to our event. Also failed to communicate to us that it was our responsibility to turn the water back on and turn the circuit breaker back on. So when we came back from our evening, there was still no hot water, we had to call the after hours people to have them tell us how to finish their job. Next, we stayed here as part of a wedding and the staff told us that the wedding couple had picked up the check for our stay. We relied on this information and told others the great news and thanked the wedding couple, only to make a fools of ourselves. The wedding couple picked up a select number of rooms, but not all the rooms. Somehow the staff interpreted the wedding couple's gesture as "free rooms for everyone!" Generally, the staff was unapologetic and needs significant work in the area of customer service. What's even sadder is that their front desk was staffed with excessive people not doing anything. So you can take comfort that your money is going to waste at the Tortuga Inn by paying people to do nothing. Finally, if you haven't gotten the point by now: Their beachfront property is underwhelming. The pool is a glorified kiddie pool. Free WiFi is spotty, as is the cell service (for Verizon). We visited multiple restaurants they recommended and all were poor quality - my guess is that they only recommend places they are in cahoots with. There are many other options on the island. My recommendation is to not waste your money here. read more

I called in the day before and spoke to Megan which was so nice and helpful and when arriving the other staff members were also amazingly friendly. The the place was so clean and so cozy. read more

We were very happy with our stay. We rented a 2/1 for 4 adults and 3 small children & found we had plenty of room. The apartment and kitchen had all the things we would need. The pool was very nice and the beach access including free beach chairs was wonderful. The best part of our experience was the staff. Upon arrival Carrie bent over backwards to make sure we were comfortable. Carrie & the girls at the front desk treated us warmly and went out of their way to make sure we had a great stay. Elena in house keeping even tried to teach my kids Spanish while she freshened the room. I highly recommend Tortuga! read more

We stayed for 2 nights in a 2 bed 1 bath room. It was nothing fancy, but sufficient. The main reason I would never stay here again was the bed was VERY uncomfortable and the sheets were like sand paper. Also the tile floor wasn't well cleaned as my bare feet were blackened by dirt. We were there for a wedding so were able to see other rooms. A 2 bedroom 2 bathroom suite and one of the rooms located on the bay side with private hot tub. They were both way nicer than our room... but I assume the same sheets are used. Also we assumed that the inn was on the beach, but the beach was actually across the street. It wasn't a huge deal. The road is busy, however, and kids shouldn't cross alone to go back to the inn to use the restroom etc. The beach was lovely and it was nice to have chairs available for guests. Great resort I stayed here with my extended family from December 22nd to December 25, 2017. My nephew rented the 1800 Square foot suite and it was wonderful. The suite sleeps six comfortably with full kitchen (includes plates, cups, glasses, wine glasses, microwave, blender, and utensils) and washer and dryer. The suite includes WiFi and each of the two bedrooms (including the living room) had cable tv and overhead ceiling fans. The living room had a queen sized sofa bed and the adjoining balcony was screen in with comfortable chairs and also a ceiling fan. The pools were heated and clean. The largest pool at the front of the resort had a large chest of floating toys and the rear pool is smaller but just as enjoyable as the larger pool. The cleaning staff was very professional and friendly as was the front desk staff. The only downside was the $50.00 dog fee and the $10.00 resort fee per day but otherwise great resort and I will be coming here again read more

I didn't actually stay at the Tortuga Inn. I attended a wedding there. My girlfriend from Seattle (we met in LA) married a man from France. They figured Florida was the half way point for friends and family to meet for their nuptuals. We all met in the back of the place by the swimming pool, they set up a drink station by the jacuzzi, and together we walked accross the street for the wedding ceremony. It flowed really well and was a lot of fun. The beach was fairly empty, it was 88 degrees outside and the sunset was gorgeous. The bride and groom rented the back suite with the pool on the deck and her brother and sister in law rented the back suite adjacent to the jacuzzi. They set up the food on the counter top and table in the suite, and people mingled by the pool. It was lovely and informal. It worked well. The units were clean and the location was ideal. Anna Maria island is a little beach community with sweet small hotels down the bulevard. The water was clear and again...gorgeous sunset. It's about an hour and half from Tampa airport. read more

Spend the money and ask for room 264. Its quiet, serene and incredibly picturesque - overlooking the bay. It's also gigantic: with a full size upgraded kitchen, dining room and living room, along with a jumbo master BR and shower large enough for 4 or 6 (not that we tried to confirm that). If the plastic white blinds in both our bedroom and living room hadn't fallen apart - literally - the first time we touched them, this place would have gotten 5-stars. When we called management after hours to request help with the blinds, they assured us they would take care of it first thing in the morning. They didn't - we had to call again. Then they assured us all blinds on property were being replaced. Fine idea! Overall a really unique, pleasant and extremely clean property that seems to deliver everything they promise. And more: the beach towels upon check in are such a nice, unexpected amenity. Thank you, Tortuga Inn, for a delightful weekend. read more

This a great family friendly resort right on the water complete with heated pools and jacuzzis. The rooms were VERY spacious and clean with stylish, comfortable furniture. Amenities were amazing great and it was right across from the beach. The only thing that could use a bit of a touch up is the staff. Other than that, I would DEFIANTLY stay here again! :) read more
