Rooms are tiny and in need of renovation. The staff was great, housekeeping not so much. They only clean rooms after a guest departs. Great location across the street from the beach. The road tends to get busy so use caution when crossing to the beach. They offer chairs and umbrellas on the beach, if you don't mind a bit of rude attitude from the service person. WE stopped by for a beach massage- I gave it 2 stars for location and friendly staff otherwise I would have given negative- Katherine didnt even massage my hubby - just rubbed on him no pressure or anything- this was for his birthday- very disappointed- Thankful for the sunset and ocean - but the massage was terrible. This used to be our backup plan for when Bridgewalk was booked... but I think it's moved to our first choice. 1. "Private" beach = lounge chairs and umbrellas set up for just guests - not sold to the public. This means you can enjoy the beach comfortably all day. Alcohol allowed. (Bring your cooler/coozies) 2. They are very proud that they are the only hotel in the island with free continental breakfast. And while it's not all that - hard boiled eggs and yoghurt are all you need to start your day (plus all the carbs and juice you want) 3. Completely renovated rooms (which should be #1 advantage, but we are so excited about the beach chairs & umbrellas which we've never had before) are lovely! The two king sized Murphy beds leave plenty of room for you two (and kids if you must.) All the details aren't quite there yet, but they are working on it! 4. Friendly staff & housekeeping, full sized fridge, nice swimming pool, etc, etc... great location - 15 minute walk to Bridge street. Lots of restaurants. We had plans that changed quite a bit and half of our party had to cancel reservations. We had such an amazing stay with you and can't wait to come visit again! My husband grew up on beautiful AMI and most of the Culhane's are still there along with high school friends. A few years ago on one of our many day trips we meet up with a few of them and we'll let's just say the day trip turned into an all-nighter LOL Of course we were not going to drive home to Tampa so the decision was made early that we would stay the night. We first went to the Bridgewalk but they didn't have any availability so they sent us to their sister hotel The Silver Surf. They were so nice and helpfully and thankfully they had a room. Now it's nothing fancy and they do not have 2 bedroom rooms but they make up for it in decor and LOCATION!! It is located right across the street from the beach and walking/biking distance to Gulf Drive Cafe, Wicked Cantina, Bridge Street, Public beach, the BeachHouse and our favorite Skinny's. If you are a biker you can even bike to The Ugly Group and Sandbar. They have their own beach access and lounge chairs with umbrellas. Also if you want you can schedule a massage on the beach . We fell in love with the Silver Surf and it is the only place we stay. We always request rooms 1-10 located by the office. I promise you won't be disappointed with your stay!! read more

I stayed here for a few days while on Anna Maria Island for a friend's wedding. The location of this place is everything, it is steps away from the beach and the bay, and has its own private beach with free to use lounge chairs and umbrellas. The weather was gorgeous when we were there so we took full advantage of the beach! The room we had was right next to the office which we actually liked because it was a few steps to the free morning breakfast and to ask for more towels. The breakfast consisted of pastries, hard boiled eggs, yogurts, and the usual coffee, tea, and juices. The hotel also had a pool included, but we didn't have time to try that out. I liked that the whole room had tile floors instead of carpets since you're most definitely tracking in sand even when you try your best to avoid it. The reason for the 4 star and not 5 is that we booked a room with a queen bed and it was most definitely a full. I didn't bother to mention it to the staff because it was only a few days and I didn't want the hassle of changing rooms. read more

Oh my God I can't say enough about this place. We could see the water when we were sitting on the bed. The resort itself was adorable and quaint and the private beach entrance was to die for. Everyone was kind and we had everything we needed and more. I couldn't believe the reasonable cost for such a cute place. We had a great stay here before all the holiday crowds arrived. If this place was completely full, it might be a little noisy but where wouldn't? The room was perfect for how our family does the beach, a small kitchenette, space to hang all the wet stuff, and comfortable beds. We also had a partial view of the beach, from a shared patio. The room was typical of a small, older beach hotel in this area. It isn't luxurious, but was clean and the staff seemed to really care if we were pleased with our stay. The two things that make the hotel stand out are the comfortable chairs and umbrellas set up for guests at the private beach area, and the breakfast every morning. I like a big breakfast and was worried it wouldn't be enough. It had delicious pastries, bagels, fruit, and yogurt or boiled eggs for protein to get you through the morning. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay (7/11 to 7/14/2021). Everything was wonderful. The only suggestion I'd like to offer is the continental breakfast items. Milk isn't available for young kids and cocktail napkins aren't the best size napkin for food. There are Dollar General stores nearby where a proper sized lunch napkin would be SO much better. I find that you'll take more cocktail napkins to use & then so many of them go to waste in the trash. read more

It's fine. Not the best place, but not bad. I'll start with the good. The location is great. The beach access is easy. The hotel provides nice lounge chairs and umbrellas on the beach for guests. They also have beach toy options, a like ski doos (I believe for an extra charge, but still convenient). There is a complimentary continental breakfast. Now, for the not so good. The walls are THIN and the hotel is noisy. Also, the U-shaped layout of the buildings allows you to hear all the sounds. I don't think any of our fellow guest were excessively loud, but the thin walls and building layout seemed to amplify sound. You can hear the baby next door crying, the kids having fun in the pool, and the guys smoking and drinking on the balcony below - all from the comfort of your room, anytime of day (or night). The layout of the room leaves a lot to be desired. The bathrooms are the kind with the sink open to the room and the bath and toilet in a closet. I hate that setup. It makes it impossible for an early riser or a midnight pee-maker not to wake up the rest of the room. To make it worse, the light switch for the bath/toilet room is behind the door. Every time I went to shower or do some business, I closed myself in a dark room before remembering that I had to flip the switch outside the room and on the backside of the door. This could be so easily fixed - move the switch to the other side or flip the door hinges to the other side. While they're at it, the hotel could add a partial privacy partition to block the bathroom entry and vanity from the room (maybe a pocket partition) and allow for one guest to sleep while another guest uses the facilities. Also, the room was narrow. One of our party slept on the sofa - not the pullout bed, but the closed up sofa. We didn't think it would work to open the bed since it would be too tight for the guests in the bed to get to the bathroom if the sofa bed was open. The room seemed clean, but there were some minor maintenance issues. The shower drain was slow and there was a light out over the vanity. The sofa cushions were stained. Removable slip covers would solve the problem and keep subsequent guests from wondering about the origin of the stain (blech). There is no elevator, so if you get a third floor room you'll be schlepping suitcases up two flights of stairs. Fine, just don't over pack. Overall, the hotel is okay, but we won't be back. The noise and the inconvenience of the layout were deal breakers. read more

Very nice hotel with a private beach. I'm not sure how they maintain the privateness of it when it's busy, but we did not have a problem with crowds or getting a seat. The hotel and the beach are clean. The hotel lobby is staffed until 5pm most nights. We did not have any issues with this. Beach towels were provided in our room and could be exchanged for fresh ones at the front desk. There are restaurants and shops within walking distance (half mile to one mile) from the hotel. read more

We are frequent visitors to AMI because the beaches are amazing and the people so friendly. We usually stay right on the beach at another resort but they were booked so we decided to try Silver Surf. The staff is fantastic! The private beach across the street will not disappoint with the lounge chairs and umbrellas. The room felt like I had stepped back into the 70's at a motel 6. We found it clean but very uninviting. The room was not overpriced for the location but a solid chunk of change. Have you ever paid for ice at ANY hotel? You will if you stay here. $1 a room bucket. Just had the BEST massage of my life. Amanda and Mandy took care of us in a tiki hut on the beach this morning. Parked across the street in the hotel parking and walked to the beach access for our appointments. Told Amanda about my prior sciatic nerve issues and she worked diligently to help relieve some of that. Didn't even have to tell her where it was hurting, she knew exactly. This is a quaint to the point resort. The rooms weren't updated but they were very clean. The beds were comfy. They offer a grab and go breakfast which was convenient. It had fresh fruit and pastries. The part I love, that would bring me back is the private beach. They have lounge chairs and umbrellas for use. We are staying here for a soccer tournament. The room we were assigned had a water leak and a musty smell. We went to the front desk to see if we could move rooms. The only one available was a super small queen room for the three of us. But they told us another room would be available the next day and that they would only be charging us the smallest room rate for the entire week. We agreed. The next day the room they have us was the largest with a full kitchen and ocean patio view. It was really an amazing upgrade. I wondered why this motel had a 5-star rating. I'll tell you why now ... the staff. From the moment they were alerted to a problem the entire team jumped into action. They checked our original room and refused to let us stay in it. They were in the phone to the owners, maintenance people, etc. finding solutions. The way we were treated was to ensure our comfort was paramount and our inconvenience minimal. Every one of them poured themselves out in service if their customers. If the motel ownership reads this, please give your staff our praises. Wow. The private beach is amazing as well. Clear blue water and sand like white silk. The quiet hours after 10 are honored really well. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. And probably will. read more

We had a one night stay over Mother's Day weekend and surprisingly this place deserves a 5 star review! When I booked the hotel through Priceline I wasn't expecting much, just a way to enjoy the beach for two days without having to drive an hour to and from. The private beach across the street is so nice! Umbrellas and chairs are available for guests free of charge. There is a business that manages water activity rentals right on the private beach as well, really no reason why you'd need to leave the resort other than exploring the shops on AMI. Check-in was easy, they provided beach towels and the rooms were large. Overall this is a great spot on AMI and my family will definitely be back later this summer. read more

We checked in yesterday for my birthday weekend trip. They had a great 3 night deal and I am so glad we took advantage of it. We usually stay at vacation rentals in Holmes Beach, but decided to try out the Bradenton Beach side of town this time. We are in the normal studio room, and it's great for our needs. It's clean, bed is comfortable, shower/tub, mini-fridge and microwave, basically exactly as described. The lady at the front desk is super nice, and the view is incredible. It's right across from their own beach and we have been walking to restaurants close by so there are a lot of options within walking distance (if you don't mind walking 5-10 blocks). It looks like they have a hut on the beach for spa services- I haven't checked it out but I am highly considering looking into it more tomorrow. Parking is great, you get a pass and just park anywhere, and they also have covered parking which is nice. Haven't been to the pool yet but saw a lot of people there today so I am assuming it's warm enough to get in. They offer beach towels when you check in, and also lounge chairs on the gorgeous, private beach. I highly recommend this hotel- it's been great so far. The only weird thing is that you have to pay 25 cents for ice, I find that super strange and wish they wouldn't do that because who has quarters on them these days? Luckily we had two because we got them for the toll road but otherwise, we wouldn't have been able to get ice. read more

We loved our stay at Silver Surf. Great location, which is a few minutes walk to shopping and restaurants. Ten minute walk to Bridge St and the main attractions. Also there is a private beach right across the street with free chairs, sunshades, and cabanas. The hotel also has a heated pool, which was clean and warm. And there is a trolley stop right in front of the hotel. During our trip on the island, we heard frequently that the hotel had recently been remodeled. It seems the remodel was a success. The rooms are clean and updated. Please note that we stayed in a standard non-upgrade room, and it was great. Our room had a king sized bed that was Hilton quality, super plush and comfortable, lots and lots of pillows. The room was also fashioned with full sized sofa, HD flat screen TV, new large tile flooring, a pullman kitchenette with microwave, mini-fridge, sink, and full set of dishes, glasses, flatware (that we didn't find at first, the dish set was in a lower cabinet). They also provided several extra sets of towels, so we didn't have to get room service everyday or run over to the front desk, which was nice. Wi-fi was a little slow sometimes, but worked for the most part. Customer service was great; Angie was especially very helpful and pleasant. She seemed to genuinely care about the property and guests. Tip: We didn't bring a vehicle and used the trolley and our own two feet for transportation, and that's all we needed. There are two trolleys that run the length of the entire island, and stops are timed approximately 20-30 minutes apart depending on the number of riders; the more riders, more the stops, the more stops, the longer the run. If you see the trolley pass your location, I would recommend timing it to 18 minutes for the next trolley, in case it is running early.(BIG TIP: The trolley will not stop unless you're standing at the stop. If you're between stops or even running toward the stop and waving your hands wildly, kiss that trolley goodbye.) read more

I happened upon Silver Surf Resort on Google as an option for accommodations for my wedding. My now-husband and I are both from different states, so we were looking for somewhere with beach access where the majority of out-of-towners could stay close to us for our event. From the first time I called in to ask for information, I could tell this was the place where we wanted to be, as Tina was extremely thorough in making sure they were exactly what we were seeking and had enough units available on such short notice. A few days later, the manager Sherry and I corresponded back and forth and I was offered a discount for the nature of the event and the number of people we were bringing, which was unexpected and so very appreciated! They set up everything in the system to make it easy for our guests to receive the proper treatment, as well as moved things around on extremely short notice to provide my husband and I with one of their two "gulf view" rooms as a weekend honeymoon suite...Easily one of the most cozy rooms he and I have ever stayed in with a breathtaking view! Jason and Losi were friendly and eager to help any time I or any of our guests were in the office and one morning I even walked in to Jason baking fresh breakfast pastries for everyone there! I can not speak highly enough of the care, coordination and excellence this staff provided for our wedding day...Every guest who joined us was more than pleased with what they offered and they added the perfect touch to our big day on the beach. We picked this place for our yearly Fla vacation spot because they have a "private beach ". It was quite mellow until Saturday then it became a free for all for the locals and whoever else wanted to occupy the beach and pool area. The parking lot was half full of unregistered vehicles with no parking passes , not a chair to be found at the pool . Not one person from the resort to police any of this . I paid for a private beach , Ha what a joke! Now for the positive, rooms were decent and pretty clean . Continental breakfast was alright coffee, bagels , fruit etc. The area has plenty of decent restaurants and it really is a charming island w plenty to do. Resort and beach staff are friendly but due to the fact that my family and I were pretty much ran off the beach and no place at the pool you get 3 stars. Y'all need to hire some kind of security to make your guests feel more at ease. read more

Rooms are exceptionally small, size of single car parking spot. Bathrooms are old and mold on fixtures, caulk, etc. Continental breakfast is not served until 9 am so if you have kids you will have to go elsewhere. Pull out bed has springs poking through and not usable. Cost was high, 3 nights about $700 and value low. read more
