I cannot recommend the Diplomat hotel and it's hard to believe it's part of the Hilton brand.

One of our favorite features was the two heated pools, including an adults-only pool. Even when the weather was a little cooler, the water was warm and comfortable. The resort also has direct beach access, and complimentary beach chairs are included for guests. Umbrellas are available for just $15 each, which we thought was very reasonably priced. They also offer food and drinks at the beach. The room rates are affordable for everything the resort offers, and the overall experience exceeded our expectations. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back. Highly recommend!

If one needs a book to read, or a beach chair to sit on, the office has it covered! The grounds are kept pristine looking, with lots of beautiful flowers in the nearby pool and private garden area. The beds are super comfortable, and the kitchens are equipped with everything one needs to fix a meal. A convenient store, breakfast places, a pizza place, a few bars, shipping store, clothing store and shuttle bus access are all within a short walking distance. You will have everything you need for a relaxing and enjoyable beach vacation! I will definitely return!

With food prices the way they are, a quick trip to the grocery store, one in either direction within a few miles, and you can have home cooked meals no problem. We had one of the one-bedroom south cottages that had a separate bedroom, full bathroom, full-size kitchen with all appliances and cooking accessories, and a living room with a nice TV and sofa. It was super clean and they were very nice. The pool was small but nice (no hot tub) and we thoroughly loved the back dock which sits on the bayside and was great for watching sunrises. The resort supplied an umbrella, towels and chairs for the beach. The island is so narrow at that point that you can watch a sunrise from the back dock in the morning and just walk across the street to the beach in the afternoon. The property was very well landscaped and we found it to be really quiet and quaint. Enjoyed having our own small porch to sit on and also having a parking space right in front of the cottage. The location is very close to Cortez Road bridge and right across from Cortez Beach. We could have walked to Bridge Street if we wanted to go for a little hike but time constraints prevented it. There are several restaurants within walking distance and the trolley stop is right in front of the property. We knew nothing about AMI when we booked the cottage but found that we liked this location much more than the crowded and hectic north end of the island. We said to each other many times that we could not believe we picked such a neat place with so much charm and personality. We have stayed in several beachside condos and much preferred this cottage experience.

Prices are also in line with what you would expect to pay. Don't expect two or three star service and prices. The wallpaper was literally separating from the walls, the carpets were dirty and badly worn, and the room had a persistent musty smell. Even the telephone did not work. The condition of the room was bad enough, but the complete lack of responsiveness made the experience worse. When the air-conditioning stopped working, it was extremely difficult to get anyone to take ownership and resolve the problem. The managers appeared indifferent, and every attempt to speak with one was met with the same explanation: they were "in a meeting." The general manager was never available. Luxury hospitality is not simply a recognizable name on the building. It requires well-maintained rooms, responsive management and people who genuinely care when something goes wrong. This hotel failed on all three. The physical condition is unacceptable, the service recovery is practically nonexistent, and management seems either unwilling or unable to address legitimate guest concerns. At Ritz-Carlton prices, guests should not have to chase management for functioning air-conditioning, a working telephone or a room that does not smell musty and look neglected. This property needs a major renovation and, just as importantly, a management team that understands accountability. Until both happen, I cannot recommend staying here.
