Smog test experience went very well. Toshi uses a bay all the way over to right (closest to entrance) in the Auto Bay. Got me in and out very efficiently. Quick and painless as they say. Referred me to a safety recall on my vehicle as well. They apparently scanned the smog test results directly to dmv because 2 hours later I renewed registration without needing to provide any info about the test. I thought I left a review when I visited Toshi's Auto Smog last month, nevertheless, my recent visit was not my first. I've been taking my vehicle to Toshi since his shop was located off Artesia & Western, in Gardena. I was able to get a smog check without making an appointment and did not have to wait long for the smog check to be completed. Toshi gets straight to work on the smog check. I've not experienced any issues with either Toshi or his service. Professional service and no nonsense. BTW, Toshi, I believe, took over this business from the original owner, who was recommended by John at Shige's Premier Auto Service several years ago. Only one issue I have with Toshi Auto Smog is the location, not much space to park your vehicle if you have to wait for a smog check. Otherwise, everything else is just fine. Cost is reasonable. I don't know what the cost for a smog check by other shops, so $60 seems fair to me. read more

I needed a catalytic converter for my Camry Hybrid. Lots of places I went I was told that they are very expensive or they couldn't find one for my car. I called Toshi he was on the list from the BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair). I called others they didn't answer on a Saturday. Toshi answered told me to bring my car in. Jorge is very professional. He examined my car before ran the smog check just to make sure my car was ready for it. Turned out the O2 filter was not and needed to be reset by driving on the freeway for 20+ min. I planned to drive on the freeway right away, so I could have my smog check complete ASAP. However, I haven't driven my car since Covid, so my tire pressure was low. Toshi San went out of his way and helped me fill the air in all 4 tires without charge me. I've driven by this place for years, seeing the sign from Artesia Blvd, decided to stop by around 10 AM on a whim today. It is a little tricky to find the spot but it is located towards the back on the car wash side, there is a sign with his shop name. I believe I met the owner when I went, a very informative older gentleman. He asked me some questions before we just hooked up the car and potentially wasted my time. Very happy about that. Came here and received the worse service from Toshi. Bryan however was kind enough to explain to me what happened with the smog check and why it did not "pass" when it clearly said that it was not ready. After explanation I wish Toshi would have asked if I've been driving around which I have not so therefore the car wasn't ready. I ended up having to pay $40 for the inspection only to be told it would cost me $50 to retest which isn't right because at every place I've been the retest are free. Came here for a Star Certified Smog Check, the shop is more toward the middle back of the plaza. Saw the man Toshi himself. He's very fast and speaks to the point. I brought the papers like he asked and he did his business. He informed me that my car passed the smog check, but that there was an emission related recall my car had to do and told me the dealership would be able to take care of it. I brought my car shortly after clearing trouble codes from memory, which wasn't necessary because the check-engine light was off, and was a naive mistake on my part. This puts the vehicle in a "not ready" state and it can't be emissions tested. For the smog tester they can tell this was done immediately by scanning the car. They can ask you to drive around the block a few more times to try to put the vehicle's computer in a ready state (which I did and worked). Instead they failed my car, insisted on charging me over $40 on the spot (for plugging in a scanner), told me I needed to drive 100 miles and bring it back for an additional $30 to complete the test. After I drove around the block (under 5 miles) to a different smog tester, the vehicle was in a ready state and I passed immediately. Additionally the other tester checked the status of my car before charging me! Won't be using Toshi again. read more

I recently received my DMV renewal notice and needed a smog check. I happened to see Toshi's shop. So I stopped in and he told me to bring my car in. They were very nice and answered all questions. Recently bought a Groupon voucher ($25 for $50 test) and went to Todhi Smog the same day. Car was already on the rack when Toshi himself approached me and told me his business does not accept ANY coupon, he pointed to the wall board and showed me a hand written note confirming they do not accept Groupon vouchers or any coupons ( I took a picture of it). He insisted on getting $75 on top of the $25 I paid to Groupon. We settled for $50 so I ended up paying a total of $75 instead of the $25 (plus cost of certificate) that Groupon was peddling. I am disputing both charges and have prevailed on one so far. I have also alerted the BBB about Groupon's illegal practice of selling, taking our money and not delivering the service!
