A very terrible experience with this business. Their tactics are very PREDATORY and rely on the customer not knowing the price of things or the status of their vehicle. On their diagnostic test, which costs nearly $235, non-negotiable, they stack a bunch of costs that you then MUST pay in order to waive the diagnostic test fee. They tried to charge me more than $4000 and were not clear in the beginning about this policy, which forces people to pay the ridiculous diagnostic fee. When I went to check the vehicle pieces they wanted replaced at an autoparts store, they were upcharging everything by TWO TIMES the price! On top of all this, when I went to pick up my vehicle and refused to pay their fee, they then refused to give me back my car keys. Overall, a very shady business that hopes you have a wad of cash to give them, no matter the situation. read more

I really wanted to like this place since it's so close to my place. Went to get some front end suspension work done here back in late June. Heard creaking on both sides. They replaced ball joints on both sides, tied rod on the left and 2 motor mounts (not entirely sure why). Cost like $2500 altogether. They did agree to throw in an alignment which was nice. Before they did the tie rod, they called saying that almost all the noise was gone but needed to do the tie rod to get it completely gone. So I agreed. I got the car back and still heard creaking on the right side. I was too busy to call and leave the car with them again so I just chalked it up to good enough, I'll deal with it later. But the thing that ultimately got me to write this review is, 4 months later started to hear some rotational rubbing noise coming from the front right. I check it out and one of my lug nuts is missing meaning they didn't torque them. I checked all the nuts and were all loose on both sides they worked on. Pretty basic stuff to miss. Disappointed and don't think I'd trust these guys again. read more

Fine and there's snacks! However, they offered to repair my car over a one month period and claimed they had to "order" parts from Honda. There was a minor electrical problem that they said would cost thousands of dollars to repair. I let them do the diagnostic, but I took my car directly to Honda for repair. They had it done within a week for considerably less. Rarely will the mechanic talk to the customer directly. They leave that up to their front office staff. Chris was super helpful and friendly. Called without an appt, was told to come in, and got my car taken care of right away. He also explained what was wrong with my car (spark plugs were pretty much shot after a smog check--so car was misfiring and throttling). Since I didn't know what was wrong, I was willing to just pay the diagnostic fee $139, which he said would go toward the repair cost anyway. Turns out that the repair was less @ $133, so that was what they ended up charging me for. Checked in on Yelp for a $10 coupon, and total came out to ~$123 (including tax). Props to Orr automotive on arrow Highway, in Montclair. The owner, Nate notified me of a $700+ repair needed to my front chassis. Instead of just proceeding with the work he noted my mileage indicated I was probably still under warranty and gave me the phone numbers to a KIA dealership he liked as well as the number to corporate so I could protest if they gave me a hard time. The dealership did repair my car for free. Instead of looking at simple profit, Orr automotive invests in honesty and customer relations. Thank you! Go to Orr automotive, they're the best!! Orr automotive resurfaced my brakes for free because months ago they replaced them and heat damage had occurred. They stand by their work and go the extra mile. Not the best place when it comes to warranty claims. Very few places treat you with the same priority they did when they first worked on your vehicle. We had our ignition coils replaced here two years ago and one of them failed while still under warranty. Unfortunately my girlfriend ended up bringing the vehicle to our preferred shop. Once they told us it was one of the ignition coils, I called Orr Automotive and spoke to Nate. Nate told me we were still covered under warranty and that they could do the work for free. But he also told me the car wouldn't be ready until the following week or 5 days later to be exact. (They never made us wait 5 days before when we were paying for repairs. But I guess free warranty work is not a priority) But I still told him that's fine and we would bring the truck there. Then I have absolutely no clue why he decided to give me a second option, which ended up being based on inaccurate information. He said, "Or you can leave it at the current shop and call 1-800-4pronto to file a warranty claim with them for reimbursement." Horrible option but probably the best option for them since they wouldn't have to do free work on our vehicle. So of course that made a lot more sense to me and I let our preferred mechanic take care of it. The following Monday I called 4pronto to file a warranty claim and I was told warranty claims are not valid unless you bring the vehicle to the same shop that fixed it, something Nate should have told me. So I called Nate to let him know they wouldn't honor our claim because of that and he insisted that's not true and that they should honor it. So I went ahead and submitted paperwork for my warranty claim and sure enough our claim was denied. I should have never been given the option to call 4 pronto myself. Nate should have told me from the beginning to bring the vehicle in to them and not somewhere to prevent the warranty claim from being denied. Had I known our warranty claim would be denied as a result of that I would have brought the vehicle in to Orr Automotive instead. Now I called Nate to let him know our warranty claim was denied due to following his recommendation and he absolutely denied responsibility. And just like that they're off the hook. As for us we ended up paying $190 dollars to fix something that was covered under warranty and did not have to come out of our pocket. I am a business owner myself and I always take care of and give priority to my existing clients even when I have to do work that I won't be getting paid for. But hey there's a good reason why we don't bring our vehicles to them anymore. Be wary when offered a warranty. The warranty is just as good as the warranty they can give you that they will treat you with the same priority when you come back with a problem. read more

This was a terrible experience!!! My sunroof started to act up so I found ORR and chose this place based on Yelp reviews. Boy, was that a mistake!!! I scheduled a 12:30 appointment, but took it in earlier, at 8. The man at the desk said it would be fine and they would take at look at my car after the one they were working on. At about 10:30 I got an automated text asking if I was okay with work estimate of $139.00. I agreed to it. At 3:15 or so when I had not heard from them I called, only to have them tell me they hadn't ordered part yet or calculated my total. Confused, I asked what the estimate was for, if not for the work! He said for diagnostic inspection. He would call me back shortly with total. At 5:10 when I had still not heard back, I called again only to have the put me on hold for about 10 minutes and come on to tel me it would be $860. I said no thanks! Turns out they took the liberty to run a full inspection on my entire car. Chris & Nathan they did this as a courtesy to me. HA!!! I asked them to check my rooftop, what made them think it was okay to check my entire car! Horrible communication, deceitful practices, and terrible customer service. read more

Referred by AAA and I was very disappointed. I felt the customer service was poor. I called in the morning and the guy who answered the phone sounded pissed off and like he didn't want to assist me in the pricing of a battery for my car. Later I received a voice message from another associate explaining he was confused on why AAA made an appointment for me to come into the shop at 3:30pm. He advised in his voicemail Orr Automotive doesn't do appointments and 3:30pm is too late in the afternoon. I just checked their hours and this place closes at 5:30pm on a Friday. So the whole hours thing is weird to me. Also, if this company advertises / partners with AAA shouldn't they know and communicate what's going on? I went to Orr Automotive because I had faith in the good reviews here on Yelp. Boy was I wrong. It was a terrible experience. Bear with me, the review is long but there were so many things that went wrong theyll take time to document. My husband and I took our cars into the shop on a Monday at 1130am. We each wanted an oil change and a tire rotation. The lady at the front took our keys and told us that it may take a few hours because they are busy. She said she would text us the service price and we have to text back a yes for confirmation before they perform the service. Fast forward to 430pm (the shop closes at 530) and we have not received a text or any kind of communication. So I call and they haven't even touched either of our cars. They said they're getting to them next. So I wait and a little after 5, after still no contact from them, I call back again. They have not done our services! I asked if they were going to call me to pick up the cars and they said they assumed they would just keep them until tomorrow and work on them. At this point I'm tripping. In what world do you leave a car overnight for an oil change! But we just went with it, because we figured they'd be the first cars worked on in the morning. Fast forward next day, and the cars aren't done until 12pm! Jeez! We get to the counter to pay and there are air filters on the receipt. They charged us 70$ for air filters we did not ask for or approve of. When the front desk lady asked the mechanic, he said the air filters were a suggestion and hadn't even been put on the car. So we were almost charged for something they didn't even do. They also "forgot" to do the tire rotations. They also filled my husbands truck with synthetic oil without asking if that was what he wanted ($95). The level of unorganization and incompetence was unbelievable. They even wrote down my trip odometer for my car's odometer reading. Someone tell me how logical it is that a 2009 car has 4000 miles on it. Everything that could go wrong went wrong. Someone stole the catalytic converter from my Prius. I took it to Orr, and they were amazing through the whole process of getting it replaced. I'm from out of state, so working with my insurance wasn't straightforward for them, but the folks at Orr were patient and made things as easy for me as they could. They gave me a loaner car for the duration, advised me on the right kind of shield to get installed so the theft wouldn't happen again, and were great about communicating all the way through. It took a while, and without the loaner car I would have been in trouble, but Orr's generosity meant I could go about my life while my car was out of commission. When I went to pick it up they even sent me away with a little gift bag to show their thanks for my business. I feel like I should be the one giving Orr a gift. For someone who knows nothing about cars and is from out of state with no local support network, Orr was a lifesaver. They'll be my go-to auto shop from here on out. read more

It's taken me a month to write this but it's not because of any dissatisfaction on their part. I am SO grateful​ to have found these guys! I'm a bit paranoid about car repair shops, including dealerships. I've lived in Claremont for about 30 years and can't believe I​ hadn't heard of these guys til now. Getting someone to even look at my VW Passat, much less​ work​ on it has been very difficult. I know just enough about cars to realize after the fact that I probably got screwed over a repair. I was afraid of major transmission issues, but these guys fixed my problem within two days at a very reasonable​ cost and more importantly, my car works great! Chris and the rest of the staff are fantastic and they don't talk down to you. I've left there each time feeling I know what was wrong and what was done​. I would be very confident in taking any car back in the future. In fact, I've already had them work on my daughter's car and they'll be doing a trip check before we take it to Texas next week for college. read more

My hubs and I were going away for a mini Vegas vacay this weekend and we realized that we needed a oil change before we left! I was looking around at mechanics and stumbled upon Orr automotive and their great reviews so we decided to give them a try! We came here on a Friday afternoon after work and Chris greeted us when we walked in. We asked them for an oil changed and Chris said they were booked solid all day and wouldn't be able to see us... The hubs and I sighed in disappointment and then Chris said he would check with the back to see if they could squeeze us in... Chris said in a Rare occasion they will be able to see us! He said they would be able to get us out of here in 30-45 minutes. What a nice employee! He cranked the AC for us on this hot summer day, put ferris buller on and let us relax until our car was done! The waiting room has a keurig machine so that you may brew a cup of joe while you wait and they even provide different phone charger cables on the couch! I am fully impressed! I was here before New Years eve. I brought my Range Rover for a full thorough inspection since I seen how many good yelp review they had. My truck needed front and rear breaks and calipers, also they found my battery to have a bad cell. They quoted me for the work over $1k, I trusted them and ok the work. I also told them there was something wrong with my air bag system. They charged me an extra $79.00 to perform a diagnostic and look for the repairs needed. My truck had to stay at there shop for over 2 days, these guys either where too busy to look at it or did not know what the issue was. When I pick it up I was expecting to get a full report on the needed repairs and suggestions on what I should do. I had questions and the old man there at the front desk had no idea on any of my questions. His reply was (We couldn't get a diagnostic on the parts needed for repairs, the estimator will contact you after the 1st to give you the estimates on the works that's needed and any other solutions) I have never since heard back from this guys, they never called me or followed up with the work. I was expecting a call back with a quote and the full report on what they found and was needed. A month has passed and the breaks are making a squeaky noise, not sure if thats normal or not but for spending over 1k in a simple break job I would like my breaks not to make any noise. I have found a different mechanic who is now working on my truck and fixing the issues, he also advised me the $ I spend on breaks and battery was way over priced. I paid over $1200 when the job was no more then $600-$800. This guys ay over charged me, not sure because it was a RR or because my truck was there for 2 days. Honestly after my experience I would not recommend this place to anyone. Range Rover might not be there specialty. If you have a Range Rover and are thinking of taking the truck here I suggest you look else where. read more

A friend of mine strongly recommended Orr Auto, so I brought my Honda here for a repair a couple months ago. The owner (Jim Orr?) was very honest. He told me that I would probably need to replace my spark plugs, based on the mileage on the car, but after looking it up in the computer, he reassured me that they were fine. How about that? A mechanic that tells you when you don't need something done! The last place I took my car to tried to up-sell me every 5 minutes, and pressured me to buy things that I knew were unnecessary, which was really obnoxious. The cost was really reasonable, too.
