I wanted to give a decent review to these guys. They installed my mini-split system and it has worked well. That was four years ago. Recently, I asked them to come and do some routine maintenance and to fix my hot water heater. That has not gone well. For starters, it took them two weeks to come out. During that time the hot water was intermittent. When they did come they left early - without finishing. I got an estimate for the work and they tried to up sell me to the tune of about $1000. Then it took another two weeks to get them to come back to do the work. They took the unnecessary items off the list of to-dos and completed the work. I had to pay a "return" fee because they had not finished the first time. Even then, I would have given them at least three stars. The hot water heater was working. While dealing with them was not convenient, they did get the job done. And then the heater they just repaired ($400+) broke. No hot water. It happened on a weekend. Despite having just done the work, the answering service told me I'd have to wait until Monday morning to get a call back. They never called. I contacted them that afternoon and was told the earliest they could get to me was Wednesday. Five days without hot water. The work was expensive and, apparently not done right. There was very little effort made to fix it. And I still do not have hot water. If you have other choices for plumbing heating, you should take them. read more

Total (TM) installed our furnace/AC thru the Home Depot connection in 2015, never had a problem until this year. I had TM provide me with fall and spring service tuneup checks. I make an appointment to check out our Lennox furnace, they kept rescheduling, finally I get a call from the receptionist telling me to go to the Lennox web side and find another company who services in Newtown - they no longer service Lennox. I think that I got fed a line of hooey since they sure seem like they still handle Lennox according to TM's web site. I don't like the way they do business and would avoid them. read more

Called TMS with a request to fix a non functioning AC. They called me back within a few hours, got an appointment in a couple of days. They also informed me that a confirmation call will made a day before and on the day of once technician was on his way. So far so good, but that's when things went south. No confirmation call was received, until the day of the appointment informing me that technical is near by and can stop by 4 hours prior to the appointment. Not ideal, but AC wasn't functioning so i told them to go ahead. Upon arrival technical informed me that there will be 99 dollar charge to diagnose the system, which is a separate charge and does NOT go towards repair costs. Fine. In about 20 minutes he determined that start up device (capacitor) was most likely bad. Estimated repair cost was 550. I was a little worried about 'most likely' but he assured me that was most likely the issue. I gave him a green light but asked him to see if the part was under the manufacturing warranty. He didn't seem to be happy and indicated that may take a long time. Nevertheless he made the call and the manufacturer confirmed that the part was under the warranty. Then he called the TMS main office just to inform me that warranty claim would be under homeowners responsibility - which was very strange. Then i did a quick search online and found the capacitor's cost on amazon was 12 dollars. Labor of replacing a capacitor is as easy as changing batteries in a remote controller: 2 to 5 min. Bottom line: 550 dollars to replace a part that costs 12 dollars and takes 5 minutes to replace + 99 dollars for diagnostic fee. I ended up asking them not to replace it and did it myself. 99 dollars and solid experience. Bad company. i will never use them again and wouldn't recommend anyone using them. Technical was sold but their practice of overcharging customers should be reviewed by BBB or AG's office. read more

Like other people who have left bad reviews, I am here to join the choir. These people are the worse. My family and I paid a hefty price to remodel our bathroom. After the job, the sink leaked. We asked them to fix it, and they came to do so but it still leaked and they had to come a second time. When we wrote them to let them know that we were dissatisfied with their services, they told us that our claims were "outlandish" and had the nerve to call us extortionists and lied about trying to contact us and called us liars instead. Yet, here they are, as evidenced by the reviews, as the true extortionists overpricing their dismal work and disrespectful customer service. Not only were they rude in their response, we paid extra for the shiny bathroom tiles and they installed the matte ones -- so like, another reviewer here, they also seem to be about that bait and switch life. If you ever hear of them, run as far away from them as possible. They're thieves and highly abusive in their sale tactics and customer service. Home Depot should be ashamed of themselves for contracting with such a joke of a company. Do better, Home Depot, and TMS! Spend your money elsewhere! read more

Terrible customer experience. I will never use this company for ANY service. I had contacted Home Depot for a quote on central A/C and they sent me to this company. I had scheduled an appointment for 6/1/18 which was confirmed 2 days prior then received a call that they had to reschedule since the consultant was out very ill. They rescheduled me to Saturday 6/2 at 9am. On 6/2 it is 9:15 and no one is hear so I call the office and am told I was scheduled for Sunday instead. Totally unreliable if you can't even properly schedule a consultation. read more

I hired this company to do some plumbing work after moving into a condo I had purchased. One of the things I asked them to do was install a water shut-off for the water supply for the whole unit. That was written on the invoice, and I assumed it had been completed, giving me peace of mind in the event that I had a water (leaking or flooding) emergency. I paid for the services they claimed to have provided, but didn't check to see if the water shut-off valve was functioning as it was supposed to. Three years later, I was having plumbing work done by another company, which required them to shut off the water supply. They found that the valve only shut off part of the water supply in the condo. I wrote a letter to the company president explaining this, and asked that he arrange to have his crew come and do the job they should have done in the first place. No response, so about 6 weeks later, I wrote to him again, asking for a proposed remedy. No response, and now it's been 2 months since that letter. Thus, this review. Very disappointed. I gave them 1 star because they did complete some of the other work satisfactorily, but this major blunder would make it impossible to recommend or trust the quality or safety of their work. read more

I called TMS, when my hot water heater stopped working. The tech came out and found that there was an issue with the pilot staying on. Since the unit was over 10 yrs old, he gave me a price to repair and to replace. This made me happy, because I knew when I called my husband; he would ask me that :) We decided to go with the replacement, it was done the same day. We also signed up for the service club; for our heat and it was maintained within the same visit. This company saved me time and money. read more

My 27 year old son with whom I own a home contacted home depot for information on the installation of a mini split system. I nievely thought the system would cost between 2 or 3 thousand as the system was priced between 1000 to 1300 on the home depot web sight. we were having new siding and windows installed and thought it would be best to install the system at the same time. The salesman came for a consultation and he was very pleasant and easy to talk to. When he told us it would cost $14,000 to have the system installed both my son and I told him we could not afford that. He then told us we would qualify for a $6000 rebate from our electric company. I told him I still couldn't afford that. He asked had a home depot card. I told him I did but that I didn't have that much credit as I just purchased a washer and refrigerator. I went on my account to find I only had $2000. He said we could increase my credit line. I said I doubted they would as I am retired and on social security. He said he does it all the time. Some how he managed to get my line of credit increased from $5000 to $15000. He then immediately put through a $10000 and a $2000 charge on my account. He told me that my son was the one who had to sign the contract because he called for the consultation. I never signed nor saw the contract as it was sent to my son's email without notification. $2,200 was also charged on my bank card. That night I was sick over the fact that I spent that much money. I should have cancelled then but did not want to disappoint my son who had talked about it for a few years. The money was immediately taken from my bank and charged on my card. I immediately set out to apply for the rebate. I was told by the person handling my rebate application that we could not get the rebate unless we installed integrated controls. When we approached TMS about this they insisted we qualified without the controls. However my electric company maintained that we wouldn't qualify for any rebate unless we had the integrated controls installed also. We kept calling TMS about this and were told that someone would call us back. They never did. At the same time we found out that the other construction was going to cost an additional $3000 due to problems in structure of our 72 year old home. We called several times to tell TMS that we had to cancel the order. We were told someone would call us back. They didn't. They could have told us when we called that there was a cancellation form in the contract but did not. After at least 5 days of not hearing from them I emailed the sales person and told them we needed to cancel. I never received a response. Finally 22 days after signing the contract my son finally had someone send him paperwork to sign to cancel. The charges were removed from my home depot card but only $70 dollars was returned to my bank. I was told it was a restocking fee of $2,130. I was never told about a restocking fee. I expected a fee for canceling but never expected that much. I am a senior citizen on a fixed income. That loss is devastating to me. I find it unconscionable that a company would exploit a senior especially during these trying economic times. I wish that I had read all the negative reviews warning people against this company. I know some of the fault is my own however it does not warrant them penalizing me to this extent. I would not recommend anyone doing business with TMS. read more

I received an outrageous quote from TMS after they came to my house for an AC maintenance appointment. They gave me a quote on several items that need to be fixed and it was 5-10 times more expensive than the quotes I received from others. I guess they were not interested in repairs but wanted me to replace my AC with them. I will not do any business with them further. read more

They installed 2 water heaters they used different fittings. One looks like old parts seems to be done by apprentice. After 3 years the fitting started rusted. I called them and they could not do anything for me. I'm paying top dollars for this 2 water heaters which im still paying. They want me to pay for something that they used old parts and is obvious. But they did not want to heard. I will not recommended them at all. Very dissapointed at them. read more

Our boiler was getting old and was giving us problems so we decided to upgrade to a new system. We got quotes from HOP and Total Mechanical. The prices were about the same but we got a better feeling from the Total Mechanical salesman. They came about a week later and got the boiler installed in one day. We did end up having to call a couple times about problems we were having with it. Nothing wrong with the unit itself, just some adjustments that needed to be made. They were quick to respond both times and everything is working great now. The technicians were all professional and a pleasure to deal with. read more

Let me preface this by saying the technician that did my service, Paul, was extremely knowledgeable and professional. The job was very thorough and when he left, the area was cleaner than when he started. The issue I had was with their pricing method and customer service. I had a cleaning scheduled over 3 weeks in advance, for a tuesday between 8am - 10am. I needed this service done because I am I the midst of selling the house and wanted the service fresh for a home inspection. The service window came and went, and at 10:30am, I called the office to inquire. The response I got was "oh I'm sorry, that was totally my fault, I was supposed to call you and tell you the technician was running late." Not the end of the world... I understand things happen. We rescheduled for that Saturday, between 9:30a - 11a. The tech came on time and started the job ($208 service). At some point after disassembly Paul called me and said we might have an issue...the ignitor electrodes looked worn and past their service life. He showed me them as they were out of the furnace and in his hand already...meaning, he already did the work to remove them during the normal process of the cleaning that I was already paying for. I asked how much the repair was, and he said, "I actually have the parts on my truck, it's pretty common to replace, I'll be right back." From there he plugged the job into the tablet he had and the price came up $279, which he was perfectly up front about. It struck me as expensive, but what was I to do. I didn't have any time to really research and get another quote...the thing was apart in my basement and I had things to do that day. After a couple minutes I said go ahead and replace it. He finished up and was on his way some time after that. I was able to sit down that afternoon and look up the part...the part that he already took out and had to put back through the process of the cleaning I was paying for... through every supply house I could see online the part is anywhere from $15 - $25 at most!! I promptly emailed the company to see if there was some sort of mistake. The next day, again to their credit, I was called early in the morning to discuss. It was explained to me that the job was a flat rate and that's what it costs to have the part on the truck, the tech to do the work and so on and so forth. I expressed my concern that I was double charged for much of the service and how can a 15 minute job involving a $15 dollar part possibly cost $279, while the service he performed to clean the furnace and get to the part was $208?!? Again, it was explained there was a flat rate for that particular repair and that's what the cost is...what doesn't make sense is the igniter electrodes came out for cleaning, part of the service of any furnace is to reset the electrode spark gap anyway (same as the replacement of them)....so what additional labor or time was there to charge for?? He was already at the house for the cleaning, he removed the parts... I could've told him, no thanks, put them back in and that $279 charge becomes $0, and he wouldve done all the labor regardless! My point being, I feel I got totally ripped off, and I feel sorry for people who don't have a clue what they are looking at and don't even know they got ripped off in the first place! Through a conversation with the girl at the office, Ashley, I even offered to pay for 2x the cost of the part, $30 - $50 and 20 minutes or so of extra labor....I said I wouldn't love it, but would be fine with adjusting the cost to $75 - $100, instead of $279. I think that is MORE than fair for the work that was done.... Instead they decided to not do anything, lost a customer that they have been servicing for 3 years and will do what I can to ensure this does not happen to another sucker... read more

I first contacted them in February when Daniels oil who had serviced my furnace wouldn't come out unless I started to buy oil from them. The tech who came out was diligent and knowledgeable and recommended that I replace a circulating pump later in the year. In September I arranged to have the pump replaced. When the tech arrived he didn't know that he was there to replace the pump. He left to get the part, came back and replaced it. At the time I also purchased a $ 168 service contract. For the next several days it was warm and I didn't need heat. About a week later I had no heat and I called. They sent out another tech who looked at the system and said the first tech hadn't purged the air from the system when he replaced the pump. He purged the air and left. The next morning my wife had no hot water for a shower. I called TMS to have a tech come out. They said someone would be there between 2-4. At 3:45 I get a call telling me that no one would come until after 8 the next day. Another day without hot water was a bummer so I took a closer look at my heating system. Surprise! The tech had forgotten to turn the valve for my hot water heater back on. I turned it on and called to tell them I wouldn't need a tech. I thought the story was over. Over the past several days I noticed that I was getting inconsistent heat from my radiators. Instead of using my annual contract I contacted another provider because I had lost faith in TMS's ability to service my equipment. When they couldn't come until after after Thanksgiving I prepared to purge my system again because I thought there must still be an air lock. What did I discover? Another valve that the second tech forgot to open that fed water into the boiler. What did I learn from this? First tech didn't bleed air from the system after opening the circuit to replace a valve. Second tech didn't open two valves that he closed to purge the system. These are fairly basic procedures to follow. That was why I think it was better to forget the $168 than to give them another chance at my system. read more

The worst subcontractors I have ever used, with the rudest manager The job which cost twice what I could have paid to a bathroom designer if I had more time did not pass inspection. I was told there would be a plumber on site- The plumber zinged around the house in 10 minutes the first day then I didn't see him again until I insisted a plumber come out to fix the numerous problems after it failed inspection. Pipes came apart under the sink when the inspector touched them- hooked up incorrectly. Then the manager threatened a lien on my house (recorded on my cell phone) if he didn't get the form that his workers forgot to give me read more

The service was good, the repairman seemed knowledgable, especially about pricing but I made the mistake of trusting him. Which brings me to the one star review. Without any advanced equipment, he used a power hose to clean the rotors on our two heat pumps and blew out one hose, added a few pounds of freon which he claimed cost $100 dollars a pound and we were charged almost $1,400 for four hours of work. I could see a hundred an hour maybe and another $100 for the diagnostic and travel, so fair to high price of $500, maybe $600 with the freon, okay, but over $1,300, twice what would be considered fair by most people I think, is outrageous and I was foolish to pay it. I think I should be refunded half the price. I will be adding this review to Yelp and any other review site I can find to warn others about this rip off. 300 dollars an hour for labor? read more

Called Total Mechanical to service my central air conditioner because it had stopped working at the end of last summer. The two service guys Mike and Steve were awesome! They diagnosed my problem and found that my system needed a charge of freon. They recharged the system and had us back up and running. They were both professional and helpful. Similar to others, we did not have the company perform work in our home so I am not commenting on the quality of their products or work. We didn't choose this company because they are OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. We have a very small full bathroom in our house that we wanted Total Mechanical Systems to quote for us. We ONLY asked for a quote to remove our existing tub, replace it with a new one, and put up three stick-on shower wall panels. That was IT. They quoted us at over $22,000! This involved less than a day's worth of work, according to the sales guy, and absolutely no heavy demolition because they weren't even ripping out old tile, they were just sticking new shower walls over the existing ones. We got another quote from CareFree Home Pros and they came in at much less than half the cost for the same job. Buyers beware! Not only will you have to sit through a mind-numbingly boring sales pitch about how amazing the company is and all their qualifications, licenses, insurance, blah blah blah, but you'll fall off your seat at the cost! read more

The workers don't know how to communicate with the customers, and each other. Beware of this company's hidden fees especially if you have been referred by a third party business (i.e. Home Depot) TMS will charge you for the referral fee and not disclose it until you've already paid for it (or never) The technicians are not well trained; they spent all day installing HAVC units in my weekend home and still had to return another day. Dealing with management was the worst, there is no courtesy towards the customers, they do not reply to emails nor letters. When I finally spoke with one of the managers I was treated with disrespect, he even hang up on me after screaming obscenities! Always ask for full disclosures of ALL fees.
