I am training for a half marathon and attempted 12 miles this weekend but found my body starting to give out....everything hurt, especially my right hip flexor. It was a bad situation. I woke up the next day and could barely raise my leg so I decided to give Total Wellness a try. They were great. I called at 5pm and they said they could take me at 6:20pm. Perfect! The location is small and intimate with street parking. I saw Maritza (sp?) and told her my situation and she really worked out every kink in my back and legs and esp my right hip flexor! I went yesterday and today I feel almost like new! And did I mention a full hour massage was $39.99? Amazing deal with great results! I honestly would have given 5 stars, but I'm knocking one off because the room I was in had a clock and I could hear the second hand ticking which made it harder to relax. Dr. Kim saved me. Literally. I was in the hospital for vertigo and even after 5 days it still wouldn't go away. So I was struggling to walk, move my head, and do anything with out feeling dizzy or nauseous. I went there for one treatment of acupuncture and no lie, next day I woke up brand new.... well not new but normal. The original me. I honestly thought I would never be the same again. The acupuncture was great and we did a few stretches. At the end the acupuncture was placed deeply in my problem areas then taken out.. even though that was pretty uncomfortable for the moment it was happening. Those spots were completely relaxed the following days. I was also given some Asian tea to drink at night as a muscle relaxer and I drank it in the morning and felt as if I was floating in a pool.. idk why but that's what it felt like. This place is a deal!! for $40 you get a full hour massage. I have never been disappointed (except when going elsewhere). The girls are great, you can request which area you want them to focus on, I feel they are experienced, they know each muscle, feel your trouble spots and focus on that (popcorn)... work magic on your back. It's quiet atmosphere, dim lights, very relaxing, serene music, warm bed and amazing healing hands. I'm sad to see some bad reviews, don't think you can get injured from the massage -most likely a previous injury. I've been coming to this place for 2 years for massage and absolutely love it. Overview: After a video visit w/a doctor (Kaiser), urgent care visit w/a doctor (Kaiser), additional in-person consult w/a doctor (non-Kaiser), and a visit w/a physical therapist (Kaiser), the ONLY person able to identify the causes of my pain was Dr. Kim. He explained in both Korean & English which areas (muscles & nerve pathways) were impacted and causing my shoulder pain (muscular pain) & my neuropathic pain in forearm, wrist, hand, and fingers. showed me on an interactive diagram on his ipad so I can better understand what's going on with my body. He explained procedures clearly and could anticipate what my symptoms were & my limited activity before I could even tell him. (example: able to predict I was having difficulty brushing my teeth b/c it was my supraspinatus muscle that was affected). explained to me what I can predict in terms of healing process & expectation. I was taking high doses of Ibuprofen, using Voltaren (Diclofenac) gel, and icing my injuries, but nothing provided relief until after only 1 session w/Dr. Kim. I've seen him twice so far in 1 week, and because of him, was able to return to work. I would not have been able to do so without him. Pricing: EXTREMELY EXTREMELY fair. So much so that when I initially was having billing issues with American Specialty Health (3rd party contractor that is the middleman between many acupuncture clinics and Kaiser or other insurances), I was actually very willing to pay the cash prices offered. This man has years of experience (looked him up on the American Specialty Health website), and so I trusted that he knew exactly what he was doing. I am so so so grateful to have my pain reduced and be able to use my right arm & hand again. Location: When you enter from main entrance (labeled THE GARDENS), either take the elevator to the right OR take the stairs on the left side as suite #308 will be on the LEFT side when facing the building from the street. Very convenient. Parking: AMPLE street parking (free). $3 flat rate for the parking attached to the building. If going NORTH on Barrington, it's on your LEFT before you hit the entrance to main building. CASH only for the parking garage. Ease of Scheduling: ASSISTANT IS AMAZING. I was able to schedule a last-minute appointment and even had to change multiple times & his assistant was SO understanding throughout the whole process (lots of bureaucratic tape with Kaiser) & was so patient esp knowing I was in a lot of pain. Now that I've established care (first contact was via telephone), I just text the number provided to get additional appointments, and I LOVE how easy it is. Ambience: VERY calm and relaxing. has a diffuser. Very clean office. Smells nice. plays classical music (clair de lune, etc.) Covid-related: I wore a mask. He wore a mask. WARNING: this is not your typical foo foo spa, more a holistic wellness center w/ acupuncture, accupressure type services. this place was recommended by a friend who said it was only $40 for an hour massage!! being the massage addict that i am and badly needing one at the time...i couldn't pass this up. the outside of the place is anything but aesthetically pleasing but once you walk in it's more serene than expected. i believe its run/owned by koreans. it's a small space with a couple of rooms that are not totally sound proof but good enough. once placed in my room i was seriously lost in what to do! was i supposed to wear the gawd awful, used and abused looking boxers in size XXXXXL that was laid out for me and go topless or do i get totally nekked? and where were the sheets that i should slip under before the masseuse walks in? PANIC and sweating, i hunted the masseuse down to ask. ok, got it...the nasty boxers aren't a must. an hour later, i wake up sleepy eyed...i fell asleep! either i was really tired or it was THAT good! i must say, she hurt me like heck in the beginning, i was wincing like a puppy, trying to take it but it got so bad i had to tell her to ease up. man, those asian ladies are super strong! i felt battered and bruised for a couple days but she did get all the knots and kinks out! hubby was next door getting the massage at the same time and we compared notes afterwards. he fell asleep too and said he was violated because the lady kept massaging his buttocks (it's very bootylicious so i understand why - i grab it often and indeed it's very therapeutic). he said she owes HIM money for touching those million dollar glutes! **the negative is that there is no shower room to wash yourself off after the massage. i guess you can't really complain for $40. read more

This is a great place to get an inexpensive, no frills massage. As mentioned by other yelpers, $40 gets you a one-hour deep-tissue shiatsu massage. They also offer acupuncture, chiropractic services & facials. The rooms are private, clean and very bare-bones. They play soothing music as they massage you. The masseurs are very polite, friendly and professional. The only downsides are the location and difficult parking (depending on day and time of day). I like it rough and apparently so do they! My $39 combo massage by Sunny was probably one of the most effective massages I've had in a while. She finds your trouble spots and concentrates on them. She even found a few tense areas that I never knew existed. And I must say, I give props to her toes. Yes....her TOES!!! As she hung from the bars on the ceiling, her toes worked like magic on my back. Awkward at first, but once all my knots seemed to loosen up, I immediately became a fan of the toe massage. $40/hour massage-need I say more? Actually I do.... I love this place because it's convenient, cheap and easy to get a reservation. It definitely does not have the ambiance of real spa massage, but it's a great massage for only $40. I like it since it's a bit deeper massage than other places I have been to (My masseuse walked on my back). I do the combination massage where it's a combination of oil and accupressure. It's a great massage if you want them to work through your knots, but not for the full hour. Other people I have recommended it to hated it or loved it. Those who hated it didn't like: 1. The lack of ambiance 2. You can hear everything around you 3. Too deep of a massage (aka "it hurt") 4. Came to Total Wellness Center on a friend's recommendation and was really skeptical due to their raaaaaving review. Guess what, they were right. I showed up to my appointment on time and the doctor in the front told me they were running 10 minutes behind and was super genuinely apologetic. 10 minutes behind? Psh, that's nothing in LA time! The room was no fluff but definitely simple and clean. They had towels laid out and a pair of basketball shorts which, as others have mentioned, are completely optional for you to wear and I opted not to. The lady came in shortly after I was ready and proceeded to give me one of the best massages everrrr! Pressure - perfect. Target areas - perfect. Quiet and calming - perfect. Have you ever had that experience where someone is massaging you too hard so you ask them to soften up, then it's too light and you feel like an asshole for telling them to up the pressure again? Well, she kept asking me if it was too hard, but this one was right on and she has able to adjust the pressure intuitively based on my tense areas. Loved it! The time went by too fast! Another FYI is they leave an envelop for you after they leave the room for tip so make sure you have cash on you. I'm not sure if I would have known that's what that was for if I hadn't read it in a review (I'm not quick like that) so yeah, just a good to know. I addicted to massage when I was in Japan, but I stopped after I moved to LA because there're tons of low-quality massage places. I was painful to even pay tips to massager. BUT this place take me back to massage-addict! Staffs were nice and courteous. Some of them are not good at English, but you don't need many words. I have been a regular for several years now. Going at least once a month. James and Ivy are great people and have provided a great service to the west side. Its a no frills non foo foo place and I like that. It is very clean, friendly service and a great therapeutic massage for a bargain. Forty for an hour! Plus if you require acupuncture or other they are a bargain as well! Plenty of parking in back with two easy to access metered lots. Can be a pain to get to off of Santa Monica Blvd. but what do you expect from a busy street. Use Ohio and go down Purdue or Corinth to parking lot is much easier. Dr. Kim is great, and very intuitive and knowledgeable. They used to have massage therapists there who would work before the acupuncture, but now Dr. Kim does that himself, and I like it better because the massage therapists were hit or miss. I actually like the Tui na style of bodywork (it is Chinese structural integration of soft tissue). This worked great to help my jaw, which was tight, and he also eliminated my neck and upper back pain. read more

After going snowboarding this past weekend I felt like my body was totally wrecked and since my finances are not doing all that well I decided to give this place a try per my ex-bf's recommendation. The place is basically a massage parlor and nothing else. Their prices are so cheap because you forgo the comforts of a sauna, jacuzzi, tea etc. that you would otherwise find at other massage spas. For those of you that don't live in the LA area... move here immediately! Total Wellness does not have your traditional "spa-like atmosphere". It is very bland looking inside, I don't think there were any decorations what so ever...no frills! That doesn't matter to me at all because what happened inside that room felt soooo good. The massage therapist, Bebe, did things to my body that have never been done before! At one point she was on all fours on top of my back! Get your mind out of the gutter! It wasn't that kind of a massage! She had her knees pressed into the back of my thighs, while her elbows were pressed into my back... wow! It's hard to imagine and I was there. At another point she was walking all over my body and massaging me with her feet. I was laying on my stomach the majority of the time so I couldn't see what was going on... but I knew whatever it was it sure felt good : ) When the massage ended I looked around the room and noticed metal poles suspended from the ceiling. Kind of like up side down parallel bars... Bebe was hanging onto those bars while massaging me with her feet. Genius! Oh did I mention the price? Get ready.... $39! A one hour treatment is $39! Not the standard 50 minutes... it was 60! You can have a woman dangling from the ceiling, basically going gymnastics while massaging you with her entire body for $39 an hour! AMAAAAZING! Tried Total Wellness Center out of sheer convenience because I live nearby. Been having extreme neck and shoulder pain as well as chronic fatigue. The neck and shoulder pain are caused by a medical diagnosis of degenerative disc disease along with moderate cervical bone spurring. It was exacerbated by a fall from a 5 ft. ladder while I was changing a light bulb. Physical therapy helped some, but I was still suffering from extreme pain. I tried the acupressure with Jennie the first time and it was very helpful. She was extremely skilled. I was skeptical about acupuncture, but I tried it the second time around. The owner and acupuncturist, Dr. Kim is very skilled and it definitely helped my pain, although I was kind of worried that he would break something when he put a towel under my neck and started pulling up as hard as he could. He said that it would help the pressure caused by my thinning discs in my neck, but I have to tell him to hold off on that next time or use less pressure. Other than that, he did some minor massage and manipulation of my neck and shoulder which really helped. My only gripe is that at the end of the session, which is $75 per acupuncture session, I tipped $25 for Dr. Kim and Jennie, he charged me $5 for some herbal tea that was supposed to relax my neck muscles. I originally thought that was included in the total $100 that I paid, but he charged $5. Now $5 is not a lot of money considering I already forked over $100, but I didn't ask for it and he offered it to me at the end of the session like it was part of the treatment. At the very least, he should have given that to me for free as compliments of the house and said that next time he would have to charge me. The herbal tea also really tasted horrible and smelled horrible, so I will have to insist that he not sell that to me next time. I'll have to say this though: he's a very good businessman and just be careful about them trying to sell you extras likes herbs and medicines that may or may not help. read more

I am disabled and see an acupuncturist/massage therapist weekly, but when I need some extra help during the week, this is where I go. Doctor Kim, and his wife Ivy are my healers. Not to sound crazy but its true. I have serious anxiety about doctors in general, and since my mom started going over a year ago, I had to get in on it. I came here for accupuncture + accupressure massage due to upper neck / headache issues. A week later and the pain has lessened a lot. The masseuse was very experienced and picked up on the troubled spots without any direction. The doctor was very straightforward and very skilled with the accupuncture. Not only I lost two inches after just one cavitation session, the secret face lift treatment for my mom was just amazing. she bought a package of three session and just got one session done but already looks good that her friends are asking what did she do. I used to like going here and getting massages from the female masseuses. They were excellent. However, the last time I went was very uncomfortable. I had asked over the phone if a masseuse was available and Dr. Kim said yes. When I got there, it turned out that he was going to give me the massage. He said the female masseuses seldom work there anymore. The massage he gave me was very uncomfortable and inappropriate. He tried to massage me in areas that the other masseuses never came close to.
