It's a no frills place but they do have a shower and steam room as well as lockers for you to put your stuff. I am so glad that I visited Massage Therapy Center! The first time you visit, you have some quick paperwork to fill out so make sure to come 10-15 minutes early to do that. They will also show you to the locker room in the back, which has lockers, showers, bathroom, and a steam room. I saw that some people recommend coming extra early to use the steam room before your appt, but I enjoyed using it afterwards! The bathroom sink also has tons of amenities-- blow dryer, hair spray, mouthwash, hair ties and showers caps, etc. Their robes are also v soft and comfy. Andrea did my massage and I def recommend her! She had great communication on pressure levels, areas to focus on, and checked in throughout the massage for a really great experience. Disappointing Customer Service - Would Not Recommend I would strongly advise against visiting this place. I didn't even make it inside due to the incredibly rude and unprofessional receptionist. She called me because I was 9 minutes late and made sure to repeatedly emphasize my tardiness. While I fully accept that my late arrival could reduce my session time, she insisted that even the intake process would be deducted from my massage time--something I have never experienced at any other massage center. Typically, massage sessions begin when the actual massage starts, or at the very least, only the late minutes are deducted. The lack of courtesy and rigid approach from the staff made it clear that customer service is not a priority here. With so many other massage centers that offer both great service and professionalism, I won't be returning to this one. read more

I've been looking into massage therapy for a while because I was in an accident five years ago and experience some muscle and joint pain. I walk on a cane most of the times because of this. Massage Therapy Center is quite far for me but I thought I'd give it a try because there were so many great reviews here! It's located right next to Sawtelle's Japan town, in a plaza with a bunch of Asian businesses. It's on the corner of the 2nd floor. I was able to find parking easily because of the accessible parking spot and didn't have to pay or get a ticket for validation or anything. I made my appointment almost a month in advance for my sister and me. I booked for two 90-min massages with the intention of using the early bird special but my confirmation didn't note that. I had to call so they could make a note of it in my reservation, which was kind of inconvenient. I feel like I shouldn't have had to call to ensure that price for my appointment especially since it was advertised directly on their website, but I'm glad there weren't any hiccups upon my arrival. Check in was smooth but the paperwork did take about 5 minutes. The last sheet you have to sign is acknowledging that there is a zero-tolerance policy for sexual favors and misconduct from both the customer and the massage therapist. It was my first time seeing and signing anything like this, but I really appreciated it and helped me feel comfortable and safe going into my session. Once I finished, I was taken to the hallway and they pointed that the restrooms were in the back. They asked if we needed to use the restrooms; I said no, my sister said yes. I was then asked if I wanted to check out the room any way. I said sure. We go to the back and see that it's a whole changing room and we are expected to change, but for some reason they made it seem optional to go back there lol. The front desk staff pointed at the locker rooms and said the instructions are there if we need anything and we can just head to our massage rooms once we're done changing. I see a basket of sandals but I had no idea where the robes were, and then found them organized by size on the shelves. The robes were nice and cozy.. the sandals not so much lol they felt heavy and hard to walk in. Once I got to my massage room, Eric asked what I'd like to focus on today. I was confused since I put everything in my intake form already, so I'm not sure they actually review it prior. After I tell him about my situation and the areas I'd like to focus on, first thing he tells me is that he wants to get me off my cane. He then leaves the room so I can change out of the robe and get into the massage bed. He comes in and tells me he'll focus on my legs today given my conditions, which I was fine with. I could not relax at all throughout the massage because it was actually kind of painful (but the kind that makes you say oh it hurts so good). lol I knew it would help my muscles afterwards so I did my best to endure it but I definitely felt like it made my body tense up. I was actually sore and bruised for a few days afterwards. I think it's obvious Eric knows what he's doing - he was very focused and knew exactly the parts that needed to be relieved and unknotted. I think I just wasn't expecting this kind of experience as I am used to more spa-like massages where I can fall asleep. Also, I acknowledge that I have a low pain tolerance too lol. At one point, Eric seemed to get emotional because he felt a high-energy point in my back and he asked me if there was anything I wanted to share. I guess he was reading the "qi" of my body, but it threw me off a little bit because I wasn't sure what he was trying to get at and I genuinely felt okay emotionally and mentally lol. In the end, Eric reiterated his goal was to get me off my cane and he wanted me to come back on a weekly basis. It kind of made me uncomfortable because he has no idea the extent of my disability and after many visits with my orthopedic doctor and my physical therapist, I highly doubt massage therapy was going to heal my disability and get me off my cane. I understand it's well intentioned, but as a disabled person, I think I know my body best and know when or how I'll be able to get off my cane. Overall, I did experience some relief after and for a few days through the massage therapy, although my muscles were quite tender afterwards for a few days. Eric is a knowledgeable massage therapist and I'm sure he had a great plan for my treatment, but this is just too far from where I live to come on a regular basis. I also felt they could have explained the dressing room situation better instead of assuming we already knew what we're supposed to do and where things are. I also wish there was some aroma during the massage session. It kind of felt like regular lotion was being used on me instead of massage oil. read more

The massages are great. I still really like Debbie, though sometimes I get massages by Izumi as well. I have had a membership here for years and try to go whenever I can. My husband likes to visit here as well. I like that it's so quiet and you hardly ever see anyone. Makes the experience more serene. I always see a person cleaning and freshening up the towels when I come in, which is nice...I do think some areas could use some more attention for cleaning though. In the women's area there is mildew in the shower stalls. The eucalyptus steam room is always leaking so there is a towel on the floor next to it. I also haven't been able to get the eucalyptus part to work the last couple of times I was there. read more

I've seen a variety of their massage therapists, but tend to book Napa when I can because she's great and also includes hot stones in her massages. Elena is also good and has a unique technique. I've had massages from several others with good results as well. It's not a super fancy place, but it's comfortable and clean, and has a locker room with amenities like a eucalyptus steam room, showers, robes, and slippers. I found this place and took a wild chance. Since my last wild chance resulted in a truly terrible massage, I am so happily surprised I figured I'd write a review. I got a last minute massage with Raquel. I also scoured the reviews and no one had mentioned her, so I was like, uhhh I hope i get a good one.... GREAT ONE. Raquel was fantastic. Very therapeutic, but still really relaxing and luxurious. This is not a super fancy spa, but it is really affordable, considering they have a steam room, which most affordable massage studios don't. It is in one of my all-time favorite neighborhoods to grab a snack afterwards, and they have awesome deals for added 30 minutes if you go early in the day. I haven't figured out how the membership works but I plan to look into it! Came back to get my 90 minute massage and not only did I feel better, I was so relaxed I spent a full 30 minutes in the steam afterward and I looked better too! read more

This place is great overall! The therapists, the front desk and the treatments will make you want to come back again and again. Just one suggestion to the business owner: check on the parking attendants and ask your customers how they are being treated by them. As I was leaving, one of the parking attendants asked me where I went which I had no issue responding to except that he replied with a "do you work there?". I don't take offense on the assumption that I was asked that question but it made me wonder if he asks ALL the customers the same question wtf! Disgusting behavior from him and if there's a policy that employees shouldn't be parking there, he should take that chat upstairs and address it with the manager or business owner, not with the customers! I signed up for their monthly membership and their massage therapists are great. Each therapist is very knowledgeable, respectful, and brings their own unique skill set. I used to enjoy coming here for a monthly massage and tried a few different therapists till I found one I actually benefited from. I even signed up for a membership. The place is clean and parking is easy. However, after a handful of messages my preferred massage therapist randomly put me on her "no book" list. I received a random phone call on a Sunday afternoon (of all days) saying your massage therapist no longer wants you to book with her when I already had a massage scheduled with her that week. No explanation, no reason, no other recommendation. Absolutely bizarre and never had this experience anywhere else. I have now cancelled my membership due here to the unprofessionalism and requested a refund for this month. They offered to find out why this happened but I don't really see the point. There are many reasons people get massages including for medical conditions. It's unethical in my opinion to drop a client in this manner without any explanation or further recommendations. I can't imagine doing so myself as a clinician. I won't name the massage therapist but just something to be weary of if you become a regular here. read more

I cannot recommend Massage Therapy Center enough. It's so unassuming in a shopping complex in the middle of LA, but the minute you walk in, you instantly feel calm and peaceful. The facility is very clean and the eucalyptus steam room is a lovely perk post-massage. I had a deep tissue massage with Charley and it was the massage I NEEDED.
