I think 'immediately overwhelmed' would probably describe the first time I walked in to Total Wine. Overjoyed, but immediately overwhelmed. By the second time I came in here, I was a little more comfortable with the organization of their wine sections. They do have by type and by country/region, but they also have some price sections, employee picks, by description and a highly rated section. Let me just say that all of this categorizing really helps with choosing a wine. Usually I walk in and I read the descriptions on the few wines that are posted, shrug and pick one. Every single wine here has a description with it which I LOVE - thank you guys so much for that. For the spirits, their collection is very comprehensive. Although, they did not have 10 Cane Rum, which happens to be my husband's favorite. I'm sure I could request it. For the beers, I very much enjoyed picking out a 6 pack of mixed beers - looking through their imports and domestics and choosing things I thought he'd like. Total Wine has really been fun to browse, and I'm definitely going back soon to browse and buy again. If you're really looking for wine for an occasion, this is a great place to go because of their categorization - it really takes the guess work out of finding the perfect wine. Their prices aren't bad either and they have a full spectrum of price points available which I also really appreciate. Four stars for a store well done! read more

Huge selection of alcohol but nobody willing to help me. I went in looking for a gift basket for a birthday gift. After wandering around I had to find someone to ask where they were and was told they didn't have gift baskets yet and to check back during the holidays. Told him I needed it tomorrow and he was kind of like oh well. Didn't offer to help me put something together or make any recommendations. Passed 3 more workers on my way out, none of whom asked if I found what I was looking for or if they could help me. As far as I could tell, I was the only customer in the store. Ahhhh!!! This place is amazing and a tad bit overwhelming (but I got over it quickly). My friends had been raving about this place for a while, so I decided to pop in after work one day. I thought about just picking up a six pack, but soon I was distracted by the seemingly endless rows of wine and liquor. "Beer be damned," I said to no one in particular. This was gonna be a liquor trip. I found the prices to be the cheapest in town; even cheaper than TL. I got one of my favorite bottles of scotch for about $10 less than most anywhere else. Big selection and a good stock of unique imports and local beer brews... alcoholic or not, they seem to have a lot. After spending 45 minutes in the store, searching without a single employee offering any help, after all they were too busy chatting with each other, I left with only one of 10 things I came in looking for. That one just happened to be something I had bought there before, but none of the others were obscure yet not one could be found. I stopped today for cases of ginger beer. I was asked if I needed assistance as I entered. The gentleman who asked was clearly preoccupied and mumbled something about help. I asked if they had 4 cases and he went walking off towards the back of the store. He again mumbled something walking away from me and I heard 4, so answered yes. He came back with 4 six packs. I said I needed 4 cases and he threw the six packs in my cart and started towards the checkout. I asked if I pissed him of or something and he didn't respond. We went to the cash register and checked someone out. I waited and eventually asked if someone was going to assist me. Another gentleman came out from the front and said he would. He had a similar attitude as the first man but did help me. I asked for the store manager to provide feedback but the second guy said he was one of them. I said never mind. If you need some interactions with rude employees then this is your place. I'll take my $300 business to another vendor or location. read more

I am 28 and I hate wine. I have always hated the taste and all the wine I tasted, even the more expensive ones, make me want to spit it out. That is, until I visited this place. They have wine tasting, good, expensive variety wines available. And the salesperson is so helpful and knowledgeable that she actually helped me discover one that I actually really liked. There are many different liquor stores around my area of Austin and I must say this place is pretty nice as it has such a wide variety of drinks and other items you may need for a party or just have at home. One thing my boyfriend and I would like to see is more Soju which is a korean drink. There are so many other types you'd think they would have at least the original. Beyond that I love that they have all of the tiny bottles up near the registers so that you can get some to try out and not have to buy a huge bottle of it. I'm always satisfied when going in as their customer service is great making sure you get what you need. read more

Wow, what an incredibly large liquor store. Great selection of wines as well - was told they stock 8,000 different type of wines. They have a cool humidor with a nice selection of cigars as well! I highly recommend the Italian Wine Class with instructor Len! He was extremely knowledgable and led a great wine tasting. We tasted 8 wines in total - a prosecco, 2 whites and 6 reds. The reds were mainly Sangiovese based wines. Great experience! Would definitely do another wine tasting/wine class! read more

I have heard great things about this place & their great employees- today friends & I went in to buy some drinks, as we were standing in the aisle a man approached us "I'm going to need to see ALL your id's " while pointing his finger at all of us. Very aggressively approached. Then he followed to give us our ID's back and go gossip with an employee an aisle down from us. Then as we are checking out the cashier yells " ID CHECK" into his mike, as we were approached yet by another employee. The point is, we didn't have to be approached while shopping very aggressively and be laughed at (why would we be there if we weren't 21 and planning on buying). Called to ask about what special whiskey they had in stock at the front of the store as a lot of folks know to do, due to the rotation of stock daily. Ive been accosted several times by low life cashiers that seem to get a kick out of it. When I spoke to management they were adamant that their behavior was inappropriate. Everytime I go in there, there is at least a dozen workers doing nothing and then the shelves will be bare. God forbid you need something on a holiday that falls on the weekend because nothing will be stocked and 2 registers will be open with lines out the door. Meanwhile the workers leave registers unattended and stand around playing grab ass all day. Today I had the pleasure of the same rude cashier and when I asked for management I was escorted out by 2 of them insinuating that IM THE PROBLEM when I have spent more than enough money at their establishment. I have complained several times and they dont care. I don't plan on going back anytime soon. Want some advice? Fire about half of your employees, put a quarter of em on the cashiers and make the other ones stock the damn shelves. read more

Prices are better than H-E-B and Specs for most things, the first month they were doing select 12 packs for $10, they still have good deals currently though. I just wish they'd opened sooner! They opened the month before I was moving away from my last place which was across the street...no fair! Either way Mike and I find it worth the drive to fulfill all of our booze and beer needs...which is a lot. Their kegs are also well priced, got a big keg of dos equis for $120 and the best part is I didn't have to drive all the way to the party barn. Everyone is really helpful and the samples are always great! I give this place 5 stars for taking a fifth of my income, cheers! read more

Yep, they have a lot of wine and a good selection of spirits. Some craft beer & cider, but not as big of a selection as expected. Pricing was higher here than HEB and Spec's which surprised me. Nice big space, but narrow isles makes it feel cramped. Large bar/classroom area for classes and tastings. Lots of tables handing out samples on the weekends. read more

I really like coming here because of the overall excellent staff. The only complaint I have is when checking out they didn't accept Apple Pay. The cashier thought they took some kind of pay but wasn't sure. Thankfully my wife was with me and she had a credit card. The Kids Are Us for adults. They have a huge assortment of craft beers, wines, bourbons, vodkas, tequilas, and everything else for your liquor cabinet or parties. It's well-organized and the staff, especially in my experience Aaron, knows about brands, products and where everything is located. They have classes and tastings to better educate the patrons, which is a win-win. The prices are great for this area too. read more

This was our "go-to" place for anything with alcohol in the container or something especially different or unique that you can't find just anywhere -- liquor in really cool bottles, rare liquor, rare wines, etc. So, we were here pretty often, not everyday, but a lot. And we used them to host our business events. One afternoon we stopped there, as we regularly would and always had, and I waited in the car. Boyfriend went in alone. He returned without anything and I asked him why? Now, he's 35 years old w/grey hair. And he said the manager refused to sell to him because his license was "dirty." This is NOT a joke and I am not exaggerating. He has a NY state DL and they do not look like TX DL's, but they are still valid forms of identification. Not to mention, he clearly is not under age. I went in there and asked to see the manager. The guy I asked stated he was one of the managers, could he help me? I held out my boyfriend's DL and asked, "are you the one who wouldn't sell to him because his DL was 'dirty'?" This manager literally laughed and looked at the license and said, "no, it looks fine to me." Then I said I wanted to speak to the manager who said that. He was called to the front and proceeded to defend his position on not selling to my boyfriend based on the dirty license and said, "I cannot see his eyes clearly in the picture, how do I know it's him if I can't tell what color his eyes are in the picture?" OMG!! No Sh*t!! That's why it tells you on the license what color they are. You also can't see how tall he is in the picture either. So, it says, he's 6' tall with brown eyes. If someone 4' tall and blue eyes has his DL then that wouldn't be him, would it? The other manager is listening to the whole conversation and laughing so hard I thought he was going to fall down. It was just SO ridiculous I could hardly continue to argue with him. Once you argue with someone who is so absurd or ignorant and they refuse to show any sign of intelligence, it's your own fault if you keep wasting time on them expecting them to suddenly find brain cells that they clearly don't have and understand reason. So, I just turned around and walked away. And when I did, don't you know that he said, "you can buy it but he still can't." I said, "no, you might think my license is too dirty and not sell to me either." And he says, "Oh, I wouldn't have ID'd you, you're clearly old enough." WTF?! So, that's the story. I can laugh now, but I will never go back there. I don't think I look old. And that is the part that pissed me off the most. LOL read more

Great selection of beers, wines, and liquors. Some nice beer glasses, and other glassware. A nice selection of snacks, salsas, and chips. The people that work there are unobtrusive. So if you have questions, stop one of them, and ask. But they will not bother you, and allow you to browse. They have cold beers for sale, and room temp beers. I like this store a lot. The customer service at this location is awful. We asked three people for help and they all seemed too busy stocking or straightening shelves to help us. There is a great selection like all Total Wine locations but compared to other Total Wine stores we have been to including other states, this has the worst service. They do nothing to help you find what you want. Not sure we will return. read more

Will keep this simple - very well organized store with great selection. They have a couple of people (one springs to mind - Lauren) who are very knowledgeable on wine. I am a long time Specs customer but this store has a much greater array of wines and spirits than any of the Specs in Austin (but falls short of Specs on Smith Street in Houston).
