As others have noted, it is a whole new ballgame in Norwalk, CT. This is like shopping at Costco. I was astounded at the size and scope of the operation. The pricing is stunning when you compare with the local competition. I guess in this case Economy of Scale trumps all, as CT still maintains strict control over liquor store pricing. It is well-run, the staff for the most part are eager to help if not always knowledgeable on a particular type of wine or vintage. (Although the managers are easy to spot and are quick with an answer or suggestion. I should note here that I am a sommelier). What I did not like was seeing floor sales staff constantly busy with inventory, shelf-stocking, etc. that, imho, is what a night crew is for, but I guess we have to get that savings from somewhere....but it sure would be nice to see a few more folks in the labor pool rather than the unemployment line. Overall, 5 stars for outstanding selection and price. All other liquor and wine stores in Fairfield County should be trembling with fear. read more

Just bought a 12 pack of white claw the other day and when I opened the package, 2 of the cans were completely empty but was unopened. I checked the expiration date and it said November 2019! Not sure if it was a white claw manufacturer issue or total wine & more but will definitely be checking the dates from now on read more

Officially obsessed. Total Wine = Amaze. HUGE wine selection. They carry Peachy Canyon- one of my favorites that I have only ever seen one other time on the East Coast. Wines are priced much below Costco, which I always thought was the most reasonable pricing around. We just heard about this place from our friends. Wow, its huge!.Connecticut is a price controlled state so that no liquor can be sold for other than the price listed by all vendors......except if you have a private label. There in is the secret. This place has 100 stores and as such produces many private labels. We found two private label dry Presecco's that we love and would normally pay $10 to $14 per bottle for $4.99. They may have other private label stuff for a similar mark down. Its worth a visit. read more

As far as liquor stores go this place is like a dream come true. By far they have the best prices around and I jump on the merit from stamford there in ten minutes without traffic. Great deals on single malt scotch and a very large beer selection. I've even found great bottles of wine for 3.99 which when your hosting a party for people who don't know the difference really lessens the impact on your wallet. What a disaster this place has become. They used to be my go-to store for almost everything. Today a young male employee was following me around as I carried a bottle of $40 tequila. He then asked if he could set it up front for me. I got a bit of a bad vibe from it, but thought maybe I just looked old, fat, and tired to him, and I was misunderstanding his chivalry (but I doubted it). Then I get up front and am standing behind a woman who is buying a lot of items with a lot of issues. I notice a teenage girl hanging around the next register over, but she has nothing on that identifies her as an employee. I continue to wait for a few more minutes. A guy walks up, and the young girl says, "I can take you over here!" I asked why she didn't offer to help me, as she saw me standing there for several minutes. She responds, "I mean...you SAW me standing there." Umm, what?! Really pathetic. I won't be returning. read more

I went to this location with two friends of mine. One of my friends and I are of legal age to purchase alcohol, but my other friend is not. However, we did not know you could not bring in a minor into liquor store and they treated us very inappropriately and threatened to call the police. An absolutely overwhelming selection of wines and beers, and highly knowledgeable staff who clearly love to help people find what they're looking for. (A while back, I was looking for something a bit obscure--a Tannat from Uruguay--and the guy who helped me said, "Oh, those are my babies!") It's actually a good thing the staff are so helpful, because it's an easy place to get lost in. One more thing I appreciate: In a lot of liquor stores, if you tell someone you're looking for, say, a nice simple ten-dollar bottle of wine, they'll try to upsell you to something that may be up to twice as expensive. (I make it a point not to return to those places.) At Total, you can expect to be shown a half-dozen bottles of wine in your price range, and you can be confident that they'll all be just fine. read more

I aways love that place, but... If you like/love IPA, you probably hear of dogfish 120 min. It is a great and unbelievable IPA. Personally, I don't drink beer, its just for my husband. I called up the store and asked them if they had dogfish 120. The lady told me they had in stock, and they had plenty in stock. Wonderful news, I left work and went straight there. Got there, I asked a staff member, where I can find it. He told they don't have in stock. I told him I just called and was told they did have it. Then, he spoke with couple of staffs, and 10 mins later, he gave me ONE bottle of dogfish 120 min. I was very confused. Then, I spoke with manager, who was very rude, and he told me it was very hot item and HIS RULE was one customer per bottle. Wow, big surprise. He also threaten me he won't even sell ONE bottle to me because I would like to buy more. Finally, I have to compromise and only get ONE bottle. After that, I called couple of other places where sells dogfish 120. Now, I have not just ONE bottle sitting in my fridge, and thanks Total Wine, we will never come back. Call your local liquor store first, they probably have all the liquor you want and for cheaper price. read more

I've been visiting this store since they opened. Low prices was the reason. I've thrown away many bottles of wine, and now another one today because they are bad. I'm not sure how they store all the inventory, but whatever they are doing is turning wine and beer there into garbage. It's interesting that the wine "standards" like Bogle, Kendall and similar brands are the ones that taste like vinegar and get poured right down the drain. I've had the same experience with a case of beer. Obviously these products were stored in 100 degree plus temperatures. Given that Connecticut has laws requiring minimum prices I've found alternative stores down the street that sell fresh merchandise. I've thrown away way too much money on spoiled wine and beer to ever return again. read more

Why beg stew Leonard's to match prices when this place has them beat on every front. Prices way lower .. And I mean not even close. I save 25%- 50% over stew and super market 'sale' prices. Staff are friendly and helpful instead of stews rude and untrained and understaffed. Finally has about double to triple the selection including very hard to find Belgian ale, scotches and how about ws 90+ wines between 10 and 20 dollars! Check your bills/invoices carefully - they overcharged me twice and had the audacity to question the bill - both times. the manager was arrogant and continued to question the overcharge and then told me that i made the mistake in reading the invoice. i recommend another liquor store and the staff is not trained and inexperienced. Would rather go to my Stew's (which MATCHED all Total's prices btw). Staff pushed their sponsored brands with a "if you like XXX then you'll love XXX". Which is fine, but don't literally take a bottle out of my hand of a label I am loyal to and shove a cheaper one in my face. I am an avid bourbon hunter. Last night I noticed a very special bottle of Bourbon on their website at a fair price. I jumped at the opportunity to purchase and have a friend pick up in store for me. Totally normal for total wines to do this. I got an email this afternoon saying my order was cancelled with no explanation. Surprised by my sudden change in fortune I decided to give the store a call to see if maybe there was an issue with my CC since the billing address was it of state. A young girl answers the phone and puts me on hold for quite a while, while she attempts to get to the bottom of the issue. What I'm told is that even though the bottle is online, it can only be sold in store and that she has 2 left. I am perplexed but since they still have the bottles I send my friend to go pick up one nonetheless. He arrives after a 45 minute drive to be told that even though they still have 2 in inventory they still cannot sell the bourbon to him because they are special orders and "long gone". I'm sorry but this is not right. This store and specifically its manager is girding bottles for their VIP clientele and would not sell to me online or my friend in store. Long story short, this place wasted mine and my friends time while acting like the shady liquor store down the street who marks up their bottles and requires patrons to pay in cash with no receipts. Unfortunately I've been on hold with total wine's customer service for the duration of the time that I have been writing this and still nobody has picked up. read more

This liquor store has such great variety at such amazing prices. Even though I don't live in the area (NYC is quite a drive just for wine and spirits), I always stock up on supplies if I rent a car and drive up to visit my family. It carries Spanish wines from various regions at different price points. The liquor displays are impressive to say the least. The store tends to have all the newest brands and flavors and NEVER neglects the staples in every category. This store also tends to have my favorite Greek white wine from Santorini that I can only seem to find in Astoria...but for waaaay cheaper. There is also staff actively walking around the store willing to help, which is really nice. I heart you Total Wine! read more

The highlight of my visit was the selection of liquor that is on offer at Total Wine. The prices are competitive as well. The beer selection is fairly large with some more unusual beers but nothing seemed extraordinarily unusual. Overall, I would go back for the selection and convenience. I needed some help choosing a Mezcal for a cocktail and after spending almost ten minutes trying to find a staff member as no one had approached me yet, he then had to call over someone else who tried to hurriedly explain the different types of Mezcal. It seemed like he was headed off his shift and then got pulled in to help me. It seems natural that in such a large store there would be individuals who can specialize in certain products over others. However, the staff seemed overwhelmed which made it difficult to find someone to truly help out. read more

My mom brought us in one when we were visiting down in FL and we both were amazed at the size and wishful that we had one up in the northeast. I even FINALLY found a green tea liqueur which I'd been looking for for months on my quest to replicate a green tea martini I once had in Hartford! Update: the customer service is beyond awful. They have such crazy turnover of staff and each time its a downgrade. Had a woman rip out a order sheet from my hand when trying to sign it and one manager who needs to be introduced to wonders of speed stick inform me that his party and he cries if he wants to. I asked for a refund of my ordered and left not to return again. Like: the selection is large and better than at most stores though some prices have gone up but their prices are still much better than elsewhere. Dislike: customer service. Earlier on they had a fantastic manager Michelle, she would have someone take your order out, expedite you when you came in with kids, so so helpful. Now its a hot mess with people having up on you, misplace some orders and are uncertain about their selection. When I complained a female cashier was loudly snickering and rolling her eyes. Nice. I had been to their stores in other states and have enjoyed the selection and the price. The liquor and wine stores in CT have really high prices set by the buddies in Hartford with their lobbying dollars. Total sells it stock at the minimum price not like other CT stores who sell most items at a higher price than the set minimum price. Total has a number of their own brands that they price very low. Their own brands are a mixed bunch, some great, most a good buy for the bucks and some terrible even at a low price. The one area were they are very good is service. On a recent visit, they were sold out of a particular wine. They said they would check in the back since there were none in the boxes above the display. Ten minutes later they showed up with a case of the wine. read more

Total Wine is such a fun place to shop. You can spend forever browsing the aisles trying to find the perfect wine to go with your dinner. I like how they organize the wine by region and they have a section based on Wine Spectator ratings and staff recommendations. Total Wine is stellar enough to warrant a trip from Queens New York. Ok, was in town visiting my folks, but still. Came here upon the recommendation of one of my good friends who makes a mean cocktail. This place has terrific staff - helpful, friendly, but not pushy. I wandered the store for 30 minutes and was impressed with both the selection and prices. Came away with some nice wine and the vow next time to check out the beer. You are allowed (and encouraged) to build your own 6 and 12 packs. What's not to love?! read more
