I just got home from my first-ever Total Wine pickup at this location, and it was by far the worst customer service experience I've ever had with this company. I've been shopping at Total Wine for over 9 years and have never encountered anything like this. The pickup interaction lasted less than five minutes, yet it left me so upset that I cried in my car afterward. I don't know the employee's name, but she should not be working in customer-facing role. From the start, she yelled at me for being in the "wrong" pickup spot and complained that it made her job harder. She was extremely rude to both me and my husband, despite us being polite and doing nothing to warrant that treatment. When placing the items in my trunk, she didn't even bother to close it--and then rushed away so quickly it felt intentional and dismissive. When I asked to confirm what was in the pickup box (we ordered 2 bottles of wine, a 6-pack of beer, and a small bottle of amaretto), she said, "Here's your 4 bottles." I calmly clarified that it should be 3 bottles and a 6-pack. She responded by glaring at me intensely, rolling her eyes, ripping the box open, and saying, "You can look for yourself" Her tone and body language were aggressive and hostile. It's hard to fully capture the interaction because so much of it was her attitude, but the disrespect was shocking. No customer deserves to be treated this way, especially during a simple pickup order. This experience was completely unacceptable and deeply disappointing for a brand I've trusted for years. My go to for wine and liquor selection. Prices are reasonable, selection is pretty good and space is large enough where you can breathe and move in between aisles. Parking is a little tight in the attached garage. The only downside is the wine recommendations by total wine and more, after purchasing a couple "recommended" wines I advise doing your own research before going in. read more

Checked out Total Wine & More (Northgate branch) on a Saturday evening. They have 10 locations in the Washington area. The place is massive with a huge selection of wines, spirits, beer, cider, vermouth and non-alcoholic drinks. They also sell cigars if that's your thing. Large covered parking lot and in-store sampling offered from Thursday to Saturday. They didn't have much sour beer options but an interesting selection of craft cider. We ended up buying a few cans/bottles from One Tree Hard Cider ($4.99 USD to $8.99 USD), ACE Cider ($2.79 USD) and Newtopia ($4.99 USD). read more

Filed tonight with the Attorney General of WA and Maryland: They cancelled two deliveries on the same day for no reason. Tying up $315 of my banking money while waiting for a refund. Do not order from Total wine delivery; there is something seriously wrong with their service. I did nothing wrong except place on online order with this company. If I could leave a 0 I would. Horrible customer service, as soon as we walked in me and my cousins were stopped by a worker named Adriel. We were a group of 4 girls, we were stopped and asked for ID. We've been to total wine in a group before and have NEVER had this happen. I was so very DISAPPOINTED today at Total Wine. Generally speaking, this is where I go for various alcohol selections. Unfortunately, today was not one of those days due to the fact that I just needed to replace the destroyed wine boxes to hold the wine that in a flooding of my lower level. Upon selecting four boxes in their vast array of boxes, in the front of their store, the person at the front desk came over and told me I was not allowed to take those boxes because they are paying customers... Unbelievable to me!!! I even explained why and he did not care... Stating that it's store policy it's reserved for paying customers to take boxes. Hence I went and bought six bottles of bubbly. Very unfortunate for Total Wine to have this policy or to have this employee who made my day, very uncomfortable and disappointed in Total Wine! read more

I place online orders for pick up regularly from this location. Orders are completed quickly and staff is always friendly.

I've been in there a few times and every single time there's been an issue. The workers are always in a bad mood, not helpful and their business practices suck. Everything from false advertising to not being able to pay a keg deposit back on the credit card in which the order was placed. I want to like this store, because they do have a good selection of wine, but how they run the business makes me wonder how they stay in business. Some businesses need to end and this is one. Total Wine is one of the "Big Box" stores that carry a ton of beer/liquor wine. Shopped at this location for years, but they do not have your/my interests at heart. Other stores are a much better value and can educate you on wine/beer/spirits products better. *Sales assistants roam the floors and recommend items which they generally know little about. Even the more knowledgeable staff steer customers into "wine direct/spirits direct" exclusives that are often sub-par offerings. They sell you what it's good for them to sell rather than offering customers something that is going to serve us best. Beware. *They gouge on prices for other items. Aviation gin was $39.50 this week. The same bottle at Ken's Market (not a cheap place) was $34 (not on sale). They wanted $120 for Booker's bourbon plus Washington liquor tax, which is 20-30% over retail. Big box stores are often thought of as discounters, but not Total Wine. *Many allocated bottles of liquor/whisk(e)y are only sold to customers who purchase thousands of dollars of liquor annually and achieve "grand reserve" status. Other fair shops in the area will give loyal customers a chance at these hard-to-find bottles. Since I stopped being loyal to Total Wine and became loyal to other stores, including area grocery stores, I started getting much better bottles including Stagg and EH Taylor Barrel Proof. And at retail prices, not crazy high ones. Skip Total Wine. And if you must shop there, never trust the opinion of their assistants. I know some must be good, but after years of shopping there I've yet to find anyone in their who will give an honest recommendation. read more

I love this Total Wine! Total Wine is a retail chain so they're pretty much all the same but the service here is really great. LOCATION & PARKING // This Total Wine is in Northgate area. It is not in the direct Northgate Mall (RIP) area but more towards the movie theater and other restaurants in the plaza before 5th. It has its own parking structure too so who are we to complain here? It's always so convenient going here. STOCK // I have found almost everything I have ever needed here at this location! The only thing I haven't found is martini glasses. I just went down the street to Target to pick some up but I thought that was strange. SERVICE // Every time I go here, at least two staff members ask me if I need any help. They've always been extremely helpful and I don't find them to be naggy or pressuring. I appreciate it a lot! Pretty much an easy 4 stars for me. Living in BC with the idiotic liquor laws and monopoly the Liquor Distribution Board has on alcohol, they control everything that gets imported into Canada. These guys had what I was looking for and without the taxes, relatively speaking. Even with exchange, this was win-win. Friendly and helpful staff who assisted me for what I was looking for. Total Wine is a national chain but one that also does a great job of sourcing local items as well. The selection is pretty amazing with a deep selection of wine, spirits and beers. And for all 3, they have a section for local products which is great. I also drink a lot of French and Italian wines as well, and the selection here is probably one of the best in the Seattle area (stronger with the French than Italian though - for Italian wines, I still love DeLaurenti's ). Prices range from competitive to some really good sales and bargains. The store is well-lit, organized and also has garage parking which is a plus on rainy days. Everyone I have interacted with has been pleasant and helpful as well. I can literally kill a couple of hours here :). read more

Beware of the rude manager for tasting alcohol. For 20 years I was a customer of this store because it has some alcohol that is not available in Costco or in Fred Meyer. And as my IT company in Tukwila is next to this store I used to visit this store on Fridays one or two times per month after work to test alcohol in this store and buy wine, vodka or brandy. Tasting by teaspoon-sized amounts from about 5-7 bottles of alcohol is free for evenings or weekends. Last Friday I asked a manager, Jason Castoriano, to serve me just the sample of one bottle but my asking was declined in an arrogant manner by that manager that he gives samples only to those customers by his words: "who intends to buy' that beverage. And as he reminds me from last visits that I did not buy any tasted alcohol he is not serving me the sample to taste. I try to explain that I did not ask him to give me the sample of previously tested beverages but that Total Wine employee insisted that he is not serving me a sample. When I told him that I'll complain about his attitude, the manager told me that he does not care. I was humiliated before the customers and despised just for that teaspoon-sized sample because of the cheap manager of this store. No more spending my money there in the future. read more

When we need wine, beer, or hard A, we always come to Total Wine. They have everything you need (and more - pun intended). BEER. I have discovered some new favorite beers here (namely, a new Sour IPA by Rogue called Combat Wombat). They have a great selection of beer, including allnthe local craft beers , a bunch from around the country (including one of my faves - Maui Brewing Co) and around the world - spanish beers, German beers, Belgian sours, you name it. They have a rotating draft selection so you can fill your growlers. Also, TW has kegs you can rent out (from 1/4 to full size) with a pretty solid selection of beer. WINE. There's like 8 aisles full of wine... Nuff said. LIQUOR. They have all the different bottles you could be looking for. I've discovered a bunch of new tequilas and rums here that you can't find at even the best stocked grocery store liquor sections. The prices are also very comparable - sometimes even cheaper. MISC. Mixers. Ice. Sodas. Glassware. Gifts. They literally have it all. I just wish they had a better stock of lines. They run out pretty quick, but hey... Some respect would be nice as a customer. I stood in line and the man was still checking out the customer ahead of me. He saw me on my phone minding my own business and decided to snap at me that I need to move up and put my items down. Completely unnecessary. We finish the transaction and he asks if I need a receipt. I say no, have a good night. And he says "uh ok then". Not sure why he decided to have such an attitude and poor customer service etiquette directed toward me. Anyways, will not be coming back to this location. Worst experience ever. Manager came up to us at cashier checkout and accused of us being too drunk to buy alcohol while we were only buying chips and soda water. We were a group of minorities and the manager was clearly a racist. As he was walking away from us, he was yelling out incomprehensible words in a very aggressive manner. According to other reviews here on yelp, apparently the manager behaves like this towards other minority customers. I SMELL A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. Hands down, this place totally beats out Bev Mo. I can't believe I didn't come here to buy wine a couple of months back when it just opened and opted to buy stuff at Bev Mo. This store is so superior because of the following reasons: 1) Great customer service. Everyone here was helpful and really nice. One lady had on this really festive Christmas sweater and seemed eager to point us in the right direction in finding the right Muscato wines. We stopped another guy who worked there and he took the time to give us recommendations on which wine to order. 2) They have free tastings on the weekend. Oh my goodness, their tastings are awesome. We got to taste a variety of Champagnes, rose, apple cider, prosecco, coffee liqueur, and gin. They actually gave pretty generous pours so you can actually truly experience each type of alcoholic beverage. All of the tastings that we had were complimentary. It was an unexpected surprise to do so much tastings here. 3) The prices are pretty competitive (comparable to Costco). The alcohol here is definitely more affordable here than at Bev Mo. Also, I felt like the selection was more varied. 4) They have great coupons that they offer to customers. Make sure you pay attention to their advertisements. We found free wine and pilsner glasses with no purchase necessary coupon here. Great shop. I'll definitely come here again. read more

Very good, diverse wine selection. But, I've had more stale bottles & cans of good beer from here that I care to remember. I've noticed they all, that were date coded, were quite old. I think with their extensive inventory (that's largely at room temperature) they end up with a lot of beer that's not fresh due to poor turnover. Due to this I avoid the place. Came here on a mission for Thanksgiving wines and was pretty quickly greeted by a staff member who asked if I needed help. I simply said "wines that go well with turkey" and he selected 3 bottles for me. They were all a bit hit at dinner, paired perfectly with turkey, and I couldn't be more grateful for that salesman who did a great job picking out the best wines, a pinot noir, syrah, and sparkling wine. I also had my young child with me and really appreciate the speed in which he helped me choose the wines, and the descriptions of all the wines that made me feel confident in his choices. read more

I came in wish a 64oz growler and one of the managers just told me they can't fill growlers because they have a CO2 injection system and need to only fill their growlers. Washington State voted on removing state control of liquor sales twice between the years of 2010 and 2011. The first time, concerned about the loss of tax dollars in the midst of the worst economic recession of my life, I confidently voted no--and so did the majority of voters. That initiative, 2010's 1105 was voted down 65% to 35%. The second time around I was more divided. On one hand, I always felt the state liquor stores were silly, utilitarian and even puritan (most were closed on Sundays.) On the other hand, I was deeply uncomfortable with the initiative primarily because it was bankrolled by billion dollar companies that stood to make billions of additional dollars in revenue. Voters saw it a different way, however and approved initiative 1183 59% to 41%. Whether this initiative passed because it was a better solution or simply because voters were fatigued by the repetition (dear God, make it stop!!!), I don't know. I suspect it was a bit of both. For my part, I was so deeply conflicted on Initiative 1183 that I simply punted and didn't vote on the initiative at all. In my entire adult life I have only missed an election one time, due to last minute travels that didn't allow me time to get an absentee ballot. And of all the times I have voted, this is the only time I can remember skipping a vote because I couldn't decide. So, when the initiative ultimately passed, I was ambivalent--just as I would have been had it failed. Shortly thereafter, the first private liquor stores opened and existing stores--groceries, drug stores, and of course, big box stores, began renovating to accommodate new inventory. For their part, consumers were in for a rude awakening as the dream of cheap booze met the reality of a heavy tax burden. The news was full of people complaining that they couldn't buy that gallon of Makers for $6.99. Not much changed for me. I still purchased my wine and beer primarily at the local QFC. On the rare occasion that I needed to purchase some spirits, either QFC or Rite Aid met my needs. And then I discovered Total Wine and More and everything changed. Like red blends? Total Wine and More doesn't just have a few bottles, or even a few rows. No, Total Wine and More has literally shelf upon shelf upon shelf. A cursory count of different options yielded somewhere in the range of 500 different bottles, ranging from $5.99 to $79.99. The same goes for Cabernet Sauvignon. How much Cabernet Sauvignon does the Northgate Total Wine and More carry? By my estimates, over 600 feet of shelf space. That's right, 100 feet of shelves by 6 feet tall. Prefer Merlot? Syrah? Chardonnay? Prepare to be blown away! According to Total Wine and More's website, a typical store carries more than 8,000 different wines from every wine-producing region in the world. While it may be true that the Northgate store is smaller than some of its sister stores in the area, there's certainly no shortage of anything--from cheap weeknight options to high end, take with you to your favorite restaurant options. And then there's the "more" part. Total Wine and More features 2500 beers, ales, ciders, non-alcoholic drinks and 3000 different types of spirits. Where to even start? On a recent trip to the Northgate store, I was stating to my wife that I really would like to increase my knowledge of spirits. Perfectly timed an associate entered our aisle and asked if he could help with anything. "Could you tell me a bit about these different whiskeys?" I asked. It was almost as if this associate had been prepping all his life for that question. The detail that he went into and the enthusiasm and knowledge he displayed was genuinely impressive. One got the sense that he had this depth of knowledge not just for whiskey, but literally every type of spirit that Total Wine and More carries--which is everything--from exotics such as Absinthe or Pernot to more lowbrow options such as Trader Vic's White Chocolate Liqueur. Of course, talking about wine and spirits is hardly a substitute for actually tasting the assortment and Total Wine and More has tastings every Friday, Saturday and Sunday often featuring local wine makers, brewers or distillers. It's a great place to start, but if I'm going to get through those 500 bottles of red blends, it's going to take a concerted effort and lots of discipline. I feel like I'm up for the job! Pro-tip: Since Total Wine and More opened, I've seen at least 3 $15 off $100 coupons arrive at my house. It is definitely worthwhile to sign up to be on the mailing list. read more

I live near the Lynnwood store but prefer this location. There is definitely a good vibe here. When I stopped in recently nearly every employee was wearing a tie. Some were wearing bowties. It was a nice touch! One thing I specially like about this store is their wine section. I enjoy drinking buttery chardonnays and this store goes out of its way to rate their chardonnays by butter sticks! I thought this was a Total Wine thing but the other store doesn't do this so it's a Northgate thing. So I am quite happy to stop here on my way home from work! read more

I special ordered a keg of Breakside Wunderlust from Total Wine for a housewarming party I threw and it was super easy and a pleasure dealing with these guys from start to finish. The keg deposit process, acquiring the tap, the return- all super easy. Their team are really nice and happy to spend the time with customers who have questions. Parking is easy and they have easily the best prices and best selection of beer and spirits in the city. I used to visit Total Wine when I lived in Charleston, SC- and really missed it when I moved to Seattle to find it hadn't made it's way West yet. Went to pick up a gift for a memorial occasion. Huge store, would have liked to spend longer and look around. It took about 15 minutes before a kind clerk found me and realized I had questions about the rye whiskeys. Once he did, he bent me in the direction of what he liked. The jury is out as the gift hasn't been given yet. I scanned Yelp before going and saw they had a 20% off code. When I went to check out the young gal wasn't exactly friendly. I asked about the discount and she mumbled that they only take their coupons....ok, why do you advertise on Yelp? I rated the selection not the service so much.
