Been to the Chuck's in Central District a few times, so I was eager to check this one out, much closer to home. Right away, I like how this Chucks has 3 people behind the counter as opposed to the CD where it seems like it would be one or two most of the time. The lines seemed to go a bit faster here at Greenwood. The layouts to both locations are similar in that they have lots of snacks to offer to eat but all of the options here at Greenwood which include candies and chips - the usual kind of stuff, it's cluttered at the front entrance when you walk in and looks, well cluttered. Not a big deal, just a minor blip. There is plenty of seating, both indoor and outdoor. Lots of people with their pets, kids, people playing board games, people not even drinking beer, just Topo chicos. Of course, the great thing about Chucks is the massive and somewhat overwhelming choices of beer. I had nice few rounds of some nice brews, served in their signature handled glass jar mugs. Absolutely great spot but be responsible and don't bring your kids. Being at a bar filled with kids is the most annoying thing possible. I'm here to get black out and I have to worry about (no exaggeration) a minimum of 10 kids. Somehow the absolute most irresponsible parents decide to bring groves of children also even throw parties for kids AT A BAR. If you bring your kids here you need to rethink your decisions and put down the drink. I saw a kid with a sticker bombed pencil box with chucks hop shop stickers. Like hell yeah go off kid but you're literally 10 years old. Imagine your kid coming to school repping a bar. You're terrible. Most of these parents get loaded with their kids and bike, walk, or drive home. Jail. Other than that lots of choices and you could go and never have the same beer twice which is great. Stopped by here for a Saturday afternoon beer. The person behind the bar was friendly. We got a couple of beers that were decent. The glasses with the handles have a cool look to them. The menu doesn't seem to show it, but you can order smaller sizes for your drink. There are tons of canned beer options of all different kinds in the refrigerated cases! It's fun just perusing around. The outdoor patio was spacious and inviting. It is covered so rain won't bother you. There weren't many people here, and I like my space and a calmer atmosphere, so I was happy. I have passed by previous times and it is much more lively later in the day. The heaters didn't seem to work well though. If you're hungry, there is usually a food truck on the street nearby. I will definitely come back for a chill afternoon beer again. read more

Absolutely love coming here. BUT... if you bring your kids you're a terrible person. I'll frequently stop by while out walking the dog, riding a bike, coming home from work, date with the lady, or hanging out with friends. An amazing selection that's different just about every time. Most of the staff is super friendly. My biggest complaint though, there are always always always kids at this place. I don't know what it is but every parent in greenwood thinks it's fine to just get krunk with their kids. They'll scream and yell and take up half the areas. One of the last times my lady and I with our dog were sitting in a quiet corner away from the kids and one of them runs up trying to pet our dog. We're both drunk adults trying to enjoy our evening with like minded people but instead have to worry about some kid coming up to you and bothering you. It's immensely irresponsible. And most of them strap their kids to the back of e-bikes and drunkenly ride off in the distance. Are you serious?! Don't get me wrong I do the same but I don't have a kid!! If you take your kids here just know you're ruining peoples vibes and are a terrible person. I have no idea why chucks hop shop(the land of the thousand beers) is ok for kids to come and do whatever. Pretty cool little joint. I'm a big fan of bottle shops and prefer the atmosphere of their other location - but this one is fine too. Great food truck out front offering Cuban (?) food. Lots of beer, wine and cider selections. Parking is a challenge as the neighborhood is already pretty packed. Seemed to me quite a few of their customers walk there - which is pretty awesome if you live close enough. I would visit again. Side Note: they have a HUGE variety of N/A wine, if you're into that. 40-50 taps PLUS a huge amount (20? 30? No clue) of refrigerator cases with craft bottles/cans. There's quite a few craft bottles here that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the area, even at big box alcohol retailers. This winter (2022/23) they have a full selection of seating: inside, enclosed heated tent, partly enclosed unheated tent, and fully uncovered. They also frequently have a food truck. read more

I was disappointed with how their indoor mask policy is enforced/communicated. A friend and I had gotten beers and decided to walk around to browse the fridges with our beers in hand. We had our masks on per their indoor mask policy and would pull our masks down just to sip our beers. We heard from across the room the bartender yelling "Hey can you keep your mask on?" It didn't register that we were the target since we had our masks on. This happened a second time, and then a third time when she said quite aggressively "Hey man, this is the third time. You need to keep your mask on." When we realized she was talking at us, I clarified that we do have my mask on but need to pull it down to drink my beer! So as it turns out, their policy is you have to be seated to drink your beer, where you don't have to wear a mask at all. I wish the bartender had just walked over and let us know instead of yelling across the room, and painting us to be inconsiderate jerks. We came in and offered up our proof of vaccination (no one asked us for it) and was fully supportive of their policies. So to be embarrassed like that was pretty frustrating. I didn't make the full purchase I had came in for and don't plan on coming back. read more

I accidentally found Chuck's about a year ago when I was looking for something else; now it's a place I find myself making excuses to visit. They have every conceivable type of beer in a bottle, and a couple dozen on tap too. And they even carry several Bellingham beers because, hey, their customers like the good stuff! The staff are super friendly and will help you find whatever you're looking for. On a recent pre-Seahawks visit I enjoyed a phenomenal bourbon barrel aged brown, while the hubs indulged in a hoppy IPA. After our pre-fun we hopped in a Lyft down to the Clink, enjoyed the game, and then Ubered right back to Chuck's. MUCH more fun than paying $50 bucks to park at the stadium (and $11 for a sucky beer there). I recently found out they also have a location on Cap Hill, too! read more

A little confusing for the first time, but once I figured out where the bar was, I was very impressed. Go to the very back of the shop to order drinks if you plan to sit down (first come first serve, and self-bus), otherwise they also a wide variety of beer, wine, and cider to take home. They had some alcohol-free options on tap too which I appreciated as the designated driver. Right outside was a food truck too, so it was easy to grab a snack while enjoying a drink! read more

Great local shop that has 50ish beers on tap for drinking a pint on site or filling your growlers to go. If that's not enough, they have 1000 different cans of beer/cider/etc for you to purchase. If that sounds intimidating, have no fear, because the staff here is awesome. Very helpful with suggestions and tasters of their on-tap options. I'd like to start this review by saying that I'm a frequent Chuck's patron and haven't had any issues before - in fact the service is usually great, which is partially why I felt compelled to write this. I took 2 friends up to Chuck's last night and had a pretty miserable experience. We're all queer women in our mid 20s. The male bartenders working were supremely rude to us, especially to one of my friends, who all 3 bartenders stared at before ignoring her and continuing their conversation when she went to pay. She stood up front for several minutes and eventually had to ask if that's where she should check out, to which one of them responded, "I guess it can be." When I went up to pay with my to go selection a few minutes later, it was rushed and I had to ask if I could order off the board. It was like we were annoying them. I used to work in the service industry and try to be mindful that sometimes people have bad days etc. But this interaction was weirdly hostile. We paid separately and all made remarks when we got back to the table were how weirded out and gross we felt by our separate interactions. So you can't sit outside without reservations. And you have to make reservations 60 minutes in advance. So if you walk up and there are 10 open seats..... you have to wait 1 hour until your reservation to sit down at one of the tables that has been open for an hour. Really disappointing. Great place to hang out after I washed my car across street. They have a large amount of different beers and some of them are on tap. I found the tap list to be a good cross section of PNW beers and had a great IPA on tap when I came. I got a sandwiche at the food truck outside and just sat down and had a beer and lunch. This is a great place and I've come back over and over. I've found that his place has been discovered by lot's of others and getting busier and busier. Don't be surprised to find this to be a hopping place to be. You may need to search for a parking place so circle the block looking, don't be deterred. Before 8pm, the floor may be covered by dogs and families taking tables with kids and parents drinking beer. My advice is come in the mid afternoon or wait till after 8:30pm to miss the families with parents that like to drink beer crowd. read more

I have been here about 4 times now. If this was in Bellevue or in the Eastside, I would visit a lot more often. First time I visited was maybe about 2 years ago. It was weird and cool at the same time then. Half of the store looked like a 7 eleven store (literally... A convenient store with magazine stands and post cards) and the other half was a beer bottle shop/small seating area. I do not recall seeing its current 30+ taps of beer. Fast forward to yesterday, Chuck's changed its name from Chuck's 85th to Chuck's Hop shop. The section that used to look like 7 eleven turned into more seating area. They now have over 30 taps with over 4 employees on site and added outdoor seatings. They also had a food truck right outside the "shop". My friend and I had 3 beers. All three were not easy to find beers on draft - Boulevard Saison Brett, BEAR Republic Tartare, and 10 Barrel Apricot crush. Highly recommended. Come have a pint and get a growler to go. They are doing a new "reservation-only" system, and are very rude when you walk in and ask if a table is available. I've experienced this multiple times recently from two different employees at the front counter. If they don't want walk-in customers early in the day when they have a plethora of empty tables, they should just turn them away, not shame them for not making a reservation. I thought this was a one-off snarky employee, but it's clearly ongoing. The only reason why I gave three stars is because their beer selection is unrivaled in the area. Beware! Great bottle shop! The inside is small but there is also an outdoor patio. It feels grungy, definitely a perfect Seattle spot. They had about 30 taps, loads of variety with lots of local beers. My friend and I had a bad customer service experience last night. We were yelled at for taking our masks off to drink while browsing for beer. Instead of coming over to explain that we need to sit down to drink, we got yelled at three times for taking our masks off briefly to drink. We were then able to figure out that we need to sit down to drink a foot or two away from where we were standing. There were other customers sitting down and not drinking or wearing a mask nearby which doesn't make sense but that's another story. We were both pretty bothered and embarrassed from how that interaction was handled. I suggest telling customers that they need to sit down for masks to be optional instead of yelling at them from across the room and having them figure out what policies you're trying to convey. read more

Evidence that you don't need an amazing structure to make a great business. This is a little beer mini-mecca that's been carved out of a crummy old convenience store. They appear to have done this by sheer force of will. It's a great bottle shop, and they always have a great tap list. They even have food! You walk in and the front has a few tables, some wine displays merched out, and an aisle or two of packaged foods for sale. It still has that convenience store feel, at least for a few square feet--racks of candy bars, and so on. But past that is a medium-sized seating area with a dozen or so tables and about 700-800 bottles in coolers and on shelves. They get a solid cross-section of West Coast (the emphasis), other domestics, and imports. They get their fair share of special releases both in bottle and on tap. The staff are really nice, and the prices are solid enough. There's usually a food truck parked outside, and the place gets really busy. If you like good beer, this place will eventually be a must-stop for you. Sooner or later, either curiosity or something good in stock nowhere else has to bring every beer lover here. It's not the first stop for out of town visitors, but they're very good at what they do, and they won't let you down. read more

At first glance it looks like a convenience store but there are several tables and chairs inside and outside for people to sit around.
