As a small business owner, I hate leaving negative reviews, but between the studio's uncleanliness, the amount of hair left unwaxed, and the significant bleeding, this was a very poor experience. I typically go to the same waxer, but they were unavailable, so I decided to give Totally Smooth Skin a try, which was a major mistake. I was greeted at the home-based studio by a strong smell of wet, sour dogs, which could be smelled outside. The smell of dogs was even stronger once I stepped inside. While I understand this business is run out of a home and many people have pets, the smell was pungent and there was significant dog hair in the treatment room itself. The treatment was $120 (not including tip), which would have been more than reasonable for Los Angeles if I got the service I paid for, but I didn't. However, the wax lasted less than 15 minutes, there were large sections of hair left untouched, and wax remained between my legs. (Please note that I'm not talking about short or light blonde hair that can't be picked up by wax either, I'm talking about large patches of hair that were simply missed.) I have nothing against quick waxes, and before moving went to a speed waxer in the SF Bay Area who completed front and back in less than 10 minutes. I also bled significantly in multiple spots. I've been getting Brazilian waxes consistently for 10+ years and this is the first time I've ever bled. I didn't bring anything to the waxer's attention because I was dumbfounded that someone who has purportedly been waxing people for 25+ thought this was an acceptable wax job. P.S. BEWARE of this place. Shitty service and sloppy work! I just moved to LA from NYC and was looking to find a place that was just as good as the waxer I had in New York. Unfortunately, this place didn't even come close to measuring up. Upon entering the home, I was immediately hit by the smell of dogs. Things only got worse from there. I asked to have my balls and shaft waxed and the next thing I knew, they were using the old-school paper strips (far different from the wax I've had used on me previously where no paper strips were necessary). After waxing the same areas over and over again, the waxer gave up. Not only was my skin very irritated, but he left a ton of hairy still on my balls, blaming my blonde hair as the reason given "they were hard to see." I would have thought he'd given me a large discount for the horrible job but instead charged me the full $70. Based on the high review ratings on Yelp and Google, I didn't think I'd have anything to worry about. I will not be returning here ever again. read more

I had a really great massage from Mike, and i feel like I've been rebuilt. He's great - a nice guy and good vibe about him as well. His massage was physical-therapy levels of good. BUT - my 90 minutes was only 78 minutes. And for as expensive as a 90-minute deep tissue is, I can't forgive being shorted on time. It's kinda the cardinal sin of a massage therapist or spa. First time coming to Totally Smooth, because I was going on vacation and of course didn't plan ahead. From their 200+ five star reviews, I had a feeling the wax would be great and I was proven correct! Joe is excellent at what he does, and despite many moons passing since my last Brazilian wax, he had me in and out in seven minutes, with no stray hairs and as pain free a wax as I've ever had. On top of that, the after care is so special. Most places give you aloe and witch hazel which is fine, but Joe applied a eucalyptus and aloe emollient that was the nicest melt / lotion I've ever used. The business itself is in a gorgeous and serene house, and the waxing room was inviting and comfortable, not clinical and cramped in the back of a tiny salon, like many places can be. I'm lucky they're down the street from my apartment, but even if they weren't I wouldn't hesitate to drive back! read more

This place is great for a brazilian wax! I called and booked on Friday for a Saturday appointment and they got me in. It was super helpful because I had a music video shoot that Sunday and I was wearing lingerie. No one wants to see little pubes hanging out of a sexy outfit, amiright? And, i'll be honest, I was hesitant going to a guy for a brazilian wax, especially because this was only my second brazilian ever... i mean who wants some rando guy down in their cooch?? No one. But! It's just two partners who do it, and they are not straight so it's really fine, don't worry. They are cool! I had mine done by Joe and he was phenomenal! I highly recommend him. He did his absolute best to make me feel comfortable because, lesbihonest, the brazilian wax is NOT a pleasant experience. He talked to me throughout the process, and checked in often to make sure I was okay. In all, it was a much better experience than my last brazilian. My first time waxing my legs. I waxed my legs because I was shaving them to show off my tattoos. But shaving caused me to shave more frequently and I would get cuts sometimes. I was searching for any places who are known for male waxing and this place came up near the top of my search. I booked the appointment on the day of and was able to do it. This place was amazing! I was trying to find a place that did body hair trimming, particularity fading in the arm hair. I must of called 10 different places and none of them offered that service! Joe was an absolute delight! He is very knowledgeable and experienced and made me feel relaxed for being a first timer. The atmosphere was great and just talking to Joe the entire time made me feel very comfortable. I ended up waxing my back and he faded in the arm hair beautifully! I never knew I could do what Joe did with my body hair!
