Had the technician Mark at our home to inspect a freezer issue with our Liebherr refrigerator. Mark provided multiple potential issues that could be the fault and provided options prior to proceeding with the repair, all of which were sensitive to the potential costs involved. As it happens, Mark was able to make the repair quickly and for the least amount of cost. I could not have anticipated a better experience and I'm very grateful that there remains real professionalism in the world today. It's hard to find. 0/5- terrible work, absurd delays and no accountability- AVOID Totem! After five weeks, nearly $1,000 spent, and countless hours wasted, our appliance is still completely broken. Initially, they charged a $167 diagnostic fee and a $663 parts prepayment, promising a 10-day fix. Instead, they sat on my money for over a week before ordering the parts. When I called to check in, staff were incredibly rude and blamed me for the delay. Four weeks later, a technician finally installed the parts and left without testing them. I paid another $143--bringing the total to $973--but the machine failed immediately. The technician visited a week later (for the third time) and admitted he didn't know how to fix it. Management has completely ignored my requests to speak with them. They eventually promised a refund (minus the diagnostic fee) but have provided no written confirmation or money. Totem defaulted on every promise. Save your resources and avoid them entirely. read more

Worst experience with repair services in my life. Plastic button broke off on our gorenje machine, service person came out, charged me $166.95 to tell me they can order part for 9 euro and install it for another $100 if the button does not fix it, there will be extra charge for the board and labour still. All other repair services at least will give you service fee towards the parts and labour, this company will not. DO NOT RECOMMEND. EDIT: To insert the plastic button to the control panel will cost you the following if you decide to go ahead with the services. Save yourself $$$$ and do it yourself or call someone more reasonable. Frank was not only courteous and professional, but he also explained some possible causes for our washing machine to leak. He never spoke down to us, but treated us with respect. The technician didd a thorough analysis to find the problem and suggested the corrective measures and rescheduled a time to do the repairs. The repairs were done and the problem was resolved. My million-dollar fridge was intermittently leaking water onto the floor, and it was already a replacement for the original and was now out of warranty. I don't know why it took me so long to get it looked at - I think because I thought it must have somehow been my fault, and that it would have been unfixable like my original fridge, and I didn't want to have to spring for a new fridge. The service person never indicated that it was my fault or that I was negligent in not having it addressed sooner. He fixed the problem, showed me two settings he changed, mostly fixed a squeaky door, gave me an option (not particularly recommended) to have him do a more perfect fix for the squeak for more money. He also showed me how to remove the basket and lower part of my dishwasher for cleaning, so I cleaned that while he did the fridge repair, and then he showed me how to put the dishwasher back together and gave me general hints for its use and care. And he didn't charge me separately for anything on the dishwasher, even though I'd been told that I would have to be charged for an additional service call. But on the invoice he described what he did and indicated no charge, so it was all above board. The whole thing exceeded my expectations, and I'm looking lovingly at these appliances now and I think very highly of Totem. read more

Our dishwasher had stopped working. Their technician Tristan was very quick to find the issue and ended up fixing the issue at a very reasonable cost. Previous great experiences with Totem is why I contacted them to fix our Bosch dishwasher. This time there was multiple part delays and a technician that didn't seem as competent. After 3 weeks and the technician still not certain what the problem is but now suggesting multiple components may need replacing, I shut down the repair and bought a new dishwasher. Last time Totem repaired this dishwasher, when their tech couldn't figure out an issue he took his phone out and called a Bosch specialist. That specialist helped him figure out the problem and the dishwasher was fixed in one visit. Based on this latest experience I would hesitate to use Totem again. I did consider hiring a different repair company but none would accept another company's diagnosis. They all insist on charging for a diagnostic visit before trying to repair the machine. In the end it wasn't worth spending ~$700-$800 to repair a 10 year old dishwasher, even if it was a Bosch. read more

Research before you book! Do not use Totem Appliance & Refrigeration, your bill will likely be $500 over booking through through the manufacturer's website; look for a flat rate charge. If you own an LG product for example, DO NOT book through Totem, book on LGs website for their flat rate $350 fee. Totem will charge over $800 for the same job. Totem's charges. Freight $22.00 Dispatch Fee $159.00 Labour $525.00 GWF $110.00 Sub Total $816.00 Taxes $50.04 Total $866.04 At minimum, ask for a list of all predetermined charges, or what flat rates they will charge to know how much more it will cost to use Totem then to book a repair through your appliance's manufacturer. If we paid the $159 to Totem, then had the sense to stop dealing with them and book through LG on their offered flat rate we would still have saved money. And it would have been Totem, now sent by LG doing the repair, for significantly less money. Totem took over a week to diagnose an already diagnosed issue and repair our fridge. The first charge was mandatory $159 for a tech to diagnose the issue. The tech spent less than 3 minutes in our house agreeing our fridge wasn't working. LG provided the parts, we were charged the shipping. (LG used parts known to fail in their fridges, as a result a class action suit was launched. Likely why they pay for the parts when the fridge is out of warranty. It was explained that there would be additional charges to preform the service. It was not explained we would be flat rated off a blue book value and predetermined charges for welding and shipping totalling over $700. The tech did the removal and install in approximately 45 minutes. If you book LG's flat rate, you will get the same parts and oddly enough, Totem does the install. For over $500 more. Our want to support a local business cost us over $500. I requested a partial refund, my request was denied, Totem has taken the stance that this is acceptable business practices. read more

I do not recommend this company at all. I asked for a call back from the technician person, I never heard from him. I asked for an explanation on the reason for the repair and the replacement part and got a horrible excuse and I felt they didn't want to help with any explanation. Service clerk was rude and dismissive. Bad customer service. A service call was $166, and he was there for 4-5 minutes and determined it was a part that had just been replaced 8 months earlier. I wish they would have given a realistic opinion and said, "at this point it's worth considering buying a new fridge" Waste of hard earned money... shop around for any other company. read more

Super fast service to get my dishwasher fixed. The technician was speedy and professional and contacted me on the morning of appointment to confirm time of arrival. My only complaint is it was very expensive for a very easy fix! Our dishwasher hose under the sink was clogged with a few rubber feet from our glass trivets. At least I learned a few things! 1. never put glass trivets with rubber feet in dishwasher. The 'food catcher' will not catch them! 2. This is the third time I used Totem and will be the last. Different repairman, totally different experience. My son's washer had a door lock go. Totem told me the part was unavailable? Turns out the washer is an American model, so I spent a morning sourcing the part for them. The repairman showed up and literally 5 minutes later he left, job done. The total call out and labor fee was $261.00 plus tax. The excuse they gave me was that Kyle is experienced which is why it only took 5 minutes. They claimed an inexperienced repairman would have taken an hour. I watched him do it... a monkey could have done it in 5 minutes! Totally unreasonable considering the time spent and effort involved. And they wonder why no one trusts appliance repair shops! read more

My Fisher and Paykel range made a bright spark inside and tripped the braker. I called Totem as it was recommended by one of my friends. It turned out that, as Craig explained, the spark was just a temporary short caused by the misuse of one of the knobs. The range was fine and we paid just for the diagnostic. The first time I used Totem Appliance for my Liebherr Refrigerator I had a wonderful guy. It was to do with the ice-maker. Not only did he fixed it, he explained the problem so I could do it myself. The next time I used Totem I paid for a diagnostic that did not happen and was told I needed to get a new panel and have it installed. This would cost with installation and taxes over $1000. I decided the following week to try turning off the fridge at the breaker and turning it back on. The problem was fixed. I believe this should have been a suggestion, and could have done over the phone. They did not offer to reimburse the fee I paid for the diagnostic service that was not performed. read more

Would not recommend this company. Dishwasher was not draining.. Technician came out and said the drain hose extension should be replaced, but not something he could do because "it was not part of the dishwasher". Took off the drain hose and said he cleaned it out, but within two days dishwasher was not draining. This cost me over $300.00. He checked it over and had left but let us know if it still leaked we had 30 days credit for the service call against any future repairs. The washer still had a leak so the next time he came with the part and replaced the seal. The first service call was credited off our invoice total. We recently made a service call for our convection range. The online service was easy to use. Dispatch called back and we booked an appointment with the same technician. My second hand dryer was not generating any heat, so I called Totem Appliance. The technician arrived on time, did the diagnostic in a very timely manner and then informed me that my dryer needed a new heater. I then thought about replacing the dryer with another second hand dryer, but when the technician looked at the other parts inside the dryer and suggested I re-consider about getting anther second hand dryer because of the condition of these other parts, I decided to go ahead with the heater replacement and to keep the dryer I had. The heater was a little pricey, but given the expected lifespan of the new one (and the other factor), I thought it was worth while just getting the heater replaced. (charged two service fees) Then after repaired I noticed they left two holes in the hardwood floor in front of the dryer. A year ago I sold my house & found a condo, which I purchased. Previous owners left appliances installed 3 years previously, most of them Samsung or LG. He was very helpful, tried his best, but we finally came to the conclusion that the machine has to be replaced!
