It's hard to find pastelitos around here so I was sold the moment I took a bite of the guava and cheese pastry....it was devine! I would go back just for that!! But I'll start with the service, it is delightful, from the host to the server to the manager, everyone was pleasant and helpful throughout. The establishment is beautiful and airy. I found it brightly and artfully appointed. The coffee and pressed juice were both terrific. The mains, very flavorful and abundant. The birria as expected, was succulent and protein packed which is always good. The omelet was massive and flavorful, the potatoes were the real show stopper of this dish though. The brioche sandwich was a more basic selection but again plentiful and those potatoes might be the best home fries any of us have ever had. Overall, I'm thrilled to have a flavor-packed and unique breakfast/brunch option here in the springs and will be back to try their lunch options as well. The real hit for me was that pastelito de guayaba, it transported me right back to walking the beautiful streets of Mazatlan and stepping into a pasteleria to cool off for a sweet treat. We tried to eat here on a Sunday when it was medium busy. We sat at the bar and waited over 10 minutes before the bartender (who was the only bartender in charge of making drinks for the whole restaurant) acknowledged us. She had a couple drink orders ahead of us so we didn't expect her to rush to start taking care of us, but she didn't even say 'hello I'll be right with you', or even acknowledge that we were there. Then when she finally DID say hello, she said she would be right with us, and I asked if I could get a glass of water. She literally pulled a drink order from the till and said 'yeah hang on a sec'. I couldn't even get water! We waited another couple of minutes to see if she would get water for us and she didn't. So we left. There were not enough people working for how busy it was and the one person who was working couldn't be bothered. We won't be back. read more

Colorado Springs has a ton of great restaurants and Totem is a must for brunch! I ordered the Mazatlan Gobernador Burrito which had shrimp mixed veggies eggs with a cheese topping that was totally baked on and unique. The Margarita was delicious and pared well with the burrito. Our server was Maria who was quite busy but still took pretty good care of us. The inside was really cool. Awesome lights and decorations along with many tables made you feel very comfortable. I think I'm still in a food coma as I write this review. This was my first experience at Totem. And I was blown away! From the moment you walk in, the decor is such a vibe. The seating options were great and all looked so cozy. The open kitchen is neat so you can hear and watch the magic in the kitchen. Now the food...everything we had was amazing!! The drinks, wow! The food was cold, overly salted, completely missing ingredients and overall lacked flavor. The staff was equally cold and salty... it looked pretty, yes, that's the only reason we stopped in to eat. It took 10 minutes to get a glass of water and 45 minutes to get our drinks and just over a hour to get our food- it was noon on a Wednesday with only 2 other tables sat. We went to Totem for dinner last night for their soft opening. They are learning the menu and working out kinks so the menu was limited as far as offerings. The staff was super kind and helpful, but they also offered 50% off to all of the customers. The space was beautiful and because the pricing was reduced, we ordered a lot of options to sample! They also had a bakery full of delicious options which of course, we ordered from as well! We had the ceviche, spring rolls, nachos, shrimp tacos, a cinnamon roll, a chocolate chip cookie and the basque cheesecake. The food was visually beautiful and really didn't take too long. Each dish was rife with fresh vegetables and full of flavor. The ceviche was my favorite, it had big pieces of fish and shrimp paired beautifully with pineapple, cilantro, jalapeño and avocado. The spring rolls were absolutely packed with fresh vegetables and a beautiful mango dipping sauce that set the ponzu off incredibly. We both had drinks-an espresso martini and a margarita, both were smooth, delicious and absolute perfection. The basque cheesecake was out of the stratosphere with flavor. I know that new restaurants in the initial opening have challenges, this is their first restaurant in the United States so their learning curve is a little bigger than most but their crew was knocking it out of the fricking park! I will return when they settle more to try additional offerings! read more

Not a bad spot to get some brunch but I do beleive there are better spots in the area. There is ample seating, both indoor and outdoor; our service was great; they present a simple menu that still includes variety; and Totem as a whole is a neat space with upbeat music and good energy. While all of these areas of dining are great, the food was rather underwhelming. I tried the shrimp burrito and felt the overall flavor was overpowered by the cheese. Everything within wasn't very well seasoned - I don't think I'd order it again. That said, the latte was wonderful and I think I'd come back to try something else before making a final decision. Everyone at the table shared the same sentiment regarding their meals. Worth checking out and coming to your own conclusion, though there are some sure fire brunch spots in COS already. read more

Totem is authentic food and everything we have tried has been incredible. We love how different the food is and how flavorful it is. 'La más smash' burger was so delicious, one of the best burgers I've had! The charcuterie pizza had a lot of flavor and the sourdough dough was soft and the right thickness. Terrible service average food. We came for brunch on a not busy Sunday with a party of 6. We were seated quickly but ignored for 20 minutes and had to ask if we had a waitperson. Took forever to get drinks and finally food. The food was nothing special and we were forced to pay an added gratuity for large group. my husband and I are visiting springs to visit friends who live here. Our friends were excited to take us to this new hip spot. At first it was good because I will say the coffee and alcoholic drinks are very good BUT my husband had went up to the bar to ask for a coffee (after my friend and I got coffee from the bar) and he was told our server would get it even though we were NOT seated yet. When we finally got seated 30 minutes later we were not told about what menu was actually available but once we were able to order they told us that it would be a long wait for food because they were understaffed in the kitchen. They had said about 30 minutes but it was over an hour and THEN my friends burger came out RAW when she asked for medium well! Went here after a pilates class to get fueledup. The wait time was fast. The food was delicious. The drinks were great and the restaurant was very pretty inside. For parking you do have to park on the street so it's paid parking but it's only like a dollar or two for an hour. Not too bad. I'll definitely be back for a fun day out! read more

We've gone twice and both times it's been great! The food is good, the most recent time I had the enchiladas with mole and I was pleasantly surprised about how good the mole was! I also like all their different drink options, the cafe de olla is my favorite. The place is decorated great and I love the amount of plants, it gives it a great vibe. The only reason I gave it four starts instead of five is that both time our wait staff wasn't the best, they were really nice but lacked on refilling waters and took a while to provide service once seated. read more

Oh boy. Where do we start? Great atmosphere, and great menu selections. However, the service was painfully slow. We had to request menus for our table of 11. We were brought three menus to share. Half of our table received their drinks, but others had to retrieve their drinks from the bartender because the waiter never placed their drink order with the bar. I ordered the Miso ribeye steak cooked medium- it arrived very well done. For a $38.00 steak dinner ($70.00 bill with a drink and appetizer), that was pretty disappointing. I asked for steak sauce, and was told they don't have any. At the end of the meal, we asked for our checks to be rang up separately (annoying sure, but here on business so it's a must). After about 20 minutes, the waiter returns and says he doesn't know what everyone ordered, so he gave us all a piece of paper to write down what we ordered. (What?!). To hurry things along, we did write down our order for him. Another 20 minutes and he returned with our checks. Except at least 4 of our checks were incorrect. How does that happen when we went out of our way to itemize each bill individually and even numbered it clockwise around the table. We spent two hours here but most was spent waiting. There were two other tables in the restaurant other than us. I can't imagine what the service would've been like had it been a busy night. Disappointing is an understatement. Sure the steak issue is the kitchen's fault, but the slow incompetent service is the waiter's problem. read more

Wow. I really wanted to love this place. We were visiting from out of town and heard the menu was superb. Walked in, there was almost nobody at the restaurant at 5pm on a Saturday--dead giveaway that we were not going to love our experience. The atmosphere was lovely and we were greeted right away. We sat down to order and ordered several drinks and our meal. Drinks came out quickly and were delicious. Unfortunately, everything went downhill from there. Around 6pm, we were still waiting for our food and asked our waitress how much longer it might be as we had been there an hour at that point. She said, "oh I think they just rang the bell for your food, but I'm going to go help a different customer first before bringing it to you." She went and took their order and during this time there were three servers and the manager just watching our food get cold. About 5 minutes after that, they brought our food out. All the food was room temp/cold and the fries were so salty they were inedible. The waitress did her best to actually serve us at this point, but the manager proceeded to give us dirty looks for the remainder of our time there. Such a bummer! Can't recommend. I anticipate they'll close within a few months with this kind of service and quality. read more

Well, I had two great experiences at Totem, until Sunday. I had friends in town from Austin, TX and after the farmers market in Acacia Park, we talked about where to have lunch. I've got a great place, I said as we walked to the restaurant. We arrived at 1:15 pm. The hostess told us we were welcome to sit at the bar, the kitchen was backed up and they could take our food order in 45 minutes. There were only a few tables occupied inside and on the patio outside. I had heard about occasional poor service but hadn't experienced until Sunday.
