I visited Berries Basket Cafe last week with a friend for dinner and am so happy to have found this place. I'm originally from Illinois where there were many of this type of restaurant in every suburb- wide menus with comforting food, family feel, comfortable booths, and a place where you could meet a friend and have a good conversation without feeling rushed or like it was too loud. I haven't found places like this in the Springs so am really happy Berries Basket is here! The staff were welcoming and friendly- I appreciated everyone we interacted with. Everyone seemed happy to be working there which was refreshing! The menu is big and it's so great that they offer breakfast all day long! It was so difficult to choose what I wanted because so much sounded so good! I appreciated the honest opinions and feedback from our server on the menu options I was wondering about. I chose the turkey dinner and whoa I'm so glad I did. It was a big portion and I was able to have it for another meal at home (and I appreciated they give you containers for your leftovers you can actually put right into the oven to reheat- yay). The turkey isn't pressed- it's real carved turkey and was the perfect texture. The dressing that came with it was my favorite part- it was truly delicious and had cranberries in it. The mashed potatoes were a little dry and chunky, but the gravy was good, it came with the vegetable of the day which was broccoli and even a breadstick (and soup or salad). It was truly delicious and comforting and made me really happy. My friend got the Reuben sandwich and she also thought it was delicious! We couldn't resist the dessert menu. I absolutely loved my giant brownie and it was only $5.99! My friend got the Sinful 7 Chocolate Torte which was very yummy. We both liked the chocolate sauce that was drizzled on the plates too. This is a clean and warm place with a great selection, yummy food, warm people, and a comfortable feel. I think I will become a regular!!! read more

The old Red Lobster space has been completely transformed into a bright, cheery space. Wonderful interior. We had breakfast plates, and were not disappointed. The bacon was perfectly cooked, eggs nicely scramble, and the French toast was really good - served with all the butter you need, and a big jug of wam maple syrup. Great service, too - Rita was a gem for service and to talk to. Definitely going back again. read more

Great service and great food in the old red lobster site! The whole place is bright and welcoming, and the service is on point. Our server was very attentive and helpful, suggesting the flatbread which I tried. It was enough for two and we will probably share one with a salad next time. Stepping into this restaurant is like stepping into yummy nostalgic goodness. Our server was great, even though they made a mistake by putting meat in my hubby's veggie omelet. But the server handled that with grace by replacing that order properly. We always appreciate good servers. read more

First off the restaurant/bathrooms were very clean and the restaurant dining area is very welcoming. Our server was excellent, very attentive and provided great service. We ordered the meatloaf and the greek plate. The meatloaf came with a soup starter so my husband opted for the lasagna soup which he liked. The meatloaf was a bit disappointing as it lacked seasoning. The Greek chicken dish was very tender/fall off the bone. I just wish it had more veggies instead of the potatoes. It does come with a Greek salad. The potatoes got soggy sitting in the lemon/chicken broth. We will come back and try out the breakfast dishes as well as some other recommendations from our server. read more

Berries Basket Cafe drastically updated the Red Lobster on Academy, near Union! Ginormous and bright restaurant with a fantastic menu of American cuisine. Our server was happy and thrilled to see us, never letting our drinks get half-full. She said BBC is a small chain out of Illinois. This big restaurant was full but our food came out in good time, piping hot! The noise level wasn't too much. The portions were good-sized, I loved my Roast Beef Panini and fries, the dipping Ranch tasted made-from-scratch! My friends had breakfast scrabbles and were delighted as well. This part of Academy Blvd needed a new restaurant choice and we are thrilled it is Berries Basket Cafe! We'll return soon! read more

Had the 2 eggs and corned beef hash. The hash was going bad and had a funny smell and taste too it. Spoke with the manager and he asked if I wanted something else also he offered me a banana foster and I told him no I did not want a remake. So when the check arrived my plate was still on the check so I told the waitress that my plate was returned to the kitchen and that she should remove it from the check. I was then told I need to speak with a manager. The manager told me that the owner does not allow him to remove and items from the check and that him could give me 10% of my bill. I THINK THIS IS POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE if something is wrong with my food why do I need to pay for it!!!!! LONG STORY SHORT ILL NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN!!!!! read more

Found this place just by looking up breakfast places nearby, came here with my boyfriend whom I'm visiting as I'm from out of state. Theres so many different items on the menu! I'd definitely say this is a must try place!! It's very good food! It was very quiet and almost dead looking when we walked in but it seemed very cute the place was brightly colored and welcoming! It's a small mom and pops place owners were very sweet. The service was great! Overall great experience for the restaurant being only open for about a month and a half now! We ordered carry out from here tonight for dinner. I was excited because it's new to our area. I ordered the classic eggs Benedict. For starters, I ordered the fries as a side (they looked good in the picture) and got these burnt potatoes that looked like sausage instead. I was impressed with the size of the Benedict and expected them to be good because they looked seasoned. There was no seasoning, literally all I could taste was char or something from the stove they cooked it on. Giving two stars because my husband liked his country fried steak. read more

Service was friendly. I got a pasta dish the was pretty good, though I had to pick out something I requested not be in the dish. I realized after the fact that I hadn't received the bread with the dish. The side salad was fresh, but simple- just lettuce with a few small slices of cucumber and tomato. I got a piece of their cheesecake of the week and it wasn't cheesecake. Literally regular cake with a layer of more jiggly than cheesecake on top. The flavor was ok, but the cake (minus the jiggly stuff) was dry. I will definitely try again after they have been open awhile. It has potential. read more

The Country Scramble and Corned Beef came with a choice of pancakes - which are dinner plate size! Everything was tasty, prepared fresh and served quickly. I have eaten here twice. The food and service was excellent. The restaurant was clean, fresh and nicely decorated. The first time I had a beautiful salad, it was delicious, I took over half of it home. The second time I went, I brought 19 of my friends (church group of senior citizens, we eat out once a month). I had prearranged to bring in a group. They had the tables already set up for us and the wait staff was ready. Several of my friends commented that this is the nicest restaurant we had eaten at. Not all restaurants have the ability to seat 20 people together. We now have 4 restaurants in Colorado Springs that we can rotate through that can accommodate a large group, the food is delicious, the service great, the cost is reasonable and we are planning on returning. Even when we prayed over our meal, they turned the music down and the restaurant became quiet. That was AMAZING!!!! read more

First time here. Ruben sandwich was great with lots of meat and sauerkraut. It held together really well and didn't fall apart. Fries and onion rings were disappointing as fries were soggy and onion rings were all batter with a thin soggy excuse for an onion. Southwest egg rolls were quite good. I had lunch there today & I will never go back to Berries Basket. I ordered the Caprese Focaccia with Chicken open-face sandwich. Halfway through the first half I got a strong taste of mold in my mouth. I removed the chicken from the second half of the sandwich & could clearly see a green mold on the focaccia bread. I sent the sandwich back to the kitchen with our server. He came back saying the manager said what I was seeing was the spices. I told the server it tasted like mold. He ask me if he could get me something else & I told him no cause I didn't feel like eating something else with the taste of md in my mouth. Our server gave me the bill for $21.99. Amazing job for a restaurant that has just opened. The food portions were more than enough to feel you up, and the flavor was on point. The music was enjoyable (if not a little nostalgic for some of us) and not played at an overly high volume, which some places don't catch. The staff were friendly, and quick to help. We went on a Tuesdays afternoon and the food was mediocre at best. They seem to be trying to be more restaurants than they are with too wide range of cuisine and options. I got the Mediterranean salad and it was honestly bad, the tzatziki tasted like French onion dip the pita and chicken were cold and they did black olives instead of traditional Greek, if it's says it's a Greek or Mediterranean salad at least try to be. The food is pretty expensive for being subpar, it's not worth it in my eyes. Service was lovely and the staff were nice but if you want good food that's not gonna break the bank, don't come here. read more

Very unorganized. Waited way too long for food. Waitress finally said kitchen is backed up..it will take longer. She finally brought my order (I ordered an all meat skillet with 2 eggs). It was a tiny skillet the size of a cup saucer (for $17.99 no less) on top of a regular dinner plate ( when I saw multiple people walking out with "doggy boxes). I stopped the waitress as she tried to scurry off and asked for silverware and the toast that was supposed to come with the skillet. She took off and brought drinks to another table then disappeared into the back again. By that time my meal was cold so I complained to the "manager" and left. read more

I've been to Berries Basket a few times since it opened and I've been very happy every time. While the inside has an upscale farmhouse vibe, the food is simpler than what you'll find at some of the city's trendier brunch spots. If you're looking for fancy, artisanal brunch items, you won't find it here, but that's part of its charm. The food reminds me of a more modern, fresher take on the type of items you'd find at a Denny's, Village Inn, or IHOP back in their heyday. I think that's why I find the food so comforting and satisfying. The service is very good - the staff is good at remembering substitutions, and they are very friendly. Moreover, each time I've been here, I've noticed that manager always walks around to make sure people are enjoying everything. If classic, unpretentious diner food in a nice atmosphere is your jam, this is the place for you. read more

We have been to this restaurant three times. The three stars is for the food. The food we have been served has been delicious. I do wish that the iced mocha coffee would have been served like someone cared. Instead it came in a plastic cup. Absolutely nothing special. But the food has been delicious. It was only a three star review because they really need to train their staff better. Each time we have been there we have waited at least fifteen minutes for anyone to acknowledge we were there. Service is extremely slow. The staff walks right by our table and can clearly see that we have not been greeted. Each time we have been there our server knew we had been seated but never spoke to us. We almost left. We really like the restaurant. Please do a better job of training your staff! read more

Former Red Lobster building has been completely renovated inside. A lot of effort and money has gone in to make this a fresh, new cafe. Great job. We have gone twice. Both times have been wonderful. Everything was incredible and honestly awe-inspiring. Fantastic breakfast with a vast selection of classics as well as a lot of creative inventions as well. Service was very friendly and quick especially for being as busy as they were. Ambiance was very personal and felt family-operated, but it must be a huge family because the scale of this operation is frankly gigantic lol. Service was rough. I had to grab my own menus and then when I was finally served coffee, my own creamer. The waitress never checked on us after our food was served. Because I sat at the bar, I also watched as a coffee drink was sent back, the "barista" poured the same drink into a new cup and sent back out. The vibe of the entire staff was combative, annoyed, and unfriendly. I ordered the Irish Skillet and the corned beef hash was obviously out of a can and tasted horrible. No one ever bother asking me why I took one bite and didn't touch the rest. My husband got the Denver Omelette and deemed it "edible". I want local businesses to win. But effort is part of it. Very mediocre standard American fare. The menu is too big, jack of all trades master of none. Prices are too high for this type of food and experience. I'll give some grace for it being new, but it was way understaffed when we were there and for our party of five there were way too many mistakes on very standard orders. My husband ordered the turkey club sandwich which was ok. Nothing to rave about except it was good sized. We both got salads which were small but the lettuce was room temp. ???while the 2cucumber and 1 tomato slice were chilled. I ordered the turkey dinner. The mashed potatoes were homemade- I knew because there were chunks of potatoes and skins which I did not care for. When my plate came out I thought there was a slice of cheese covering the turkey but it was the congealed "gravy" which covered the turkey and potatoes. The broccoli was the frozen kind. The turkey itself was ok it not so much the crunchy stuffing underneath. So for me while there was a large amount of food I will not order this again; the Black-eyed Pea has a much better version. The service was ok. I did notice a young woman at the bar with long hair flying loose; that's always an ick for me- I think anyone in food service should have long hair pulled back. read more

i went for dinner, no one else eating in the restraunt, waited 20 min at table before anyone came by, they said oh can i take your order, i said yes, i ordered the chicken fried steak dinner, after a while the brought my soup, it was cold, no one anywhere to complain to, i left it on the table, a bus person goes by and swoops it up, and their gone, finally my dinner comes, the chicken fry was good, the baked potato was ice cold, i couldnt find anyone to complain to agian, finally after finishing my steak completly the manager walks by, i tell him about the wait, the cold soup, and cold potato, he say would u like to talk to the owner, i said no your the manager i expect you to handle it, and im not hearing the proper responses to a service issue, he says what do u expect me to do, i said do your dam job !!! get the customer the dinner items ordered and make sure their hot !!! so he went off and after a while sat a hot soup on the table, i said that half if what i need wheres the rest of it, he says were micrwaving u a new potato, i said why did i have to pry it out of you, it should be standard customer service that you tell me your replacing the items. he said ill go see if its done, let me interject here that its obvious he knows nothing about customer service , so he drops off the potato and leaves, thats wrong to, he should have apologised for the cold food before ir after replacing it, it obviously never crossed his mind, pathetic. then when i was finally finished abd asked for a ladt cup of coffee, the waitress poured it and it was cold !!!! un fucking believeable then when leaving i had a snotty youg redhead punik that i could have slapped the stupid right off his face as he rang me up. dont eat here for dinner ever ! youve been warned! read more

We saw this new restaurant at the old Red Lobster, were eager to try it and are so glad we did. The dining room is bright, clean and so pleasant. Even though it is very open, it is not noisy. Staff was happy to see us and gave us lots of attention. The menu was so extensive that it was hard to choose from all of the tempting choices. I had a wonderful, fresh salad and enjoyed the berry theme. My husband had a full roast turkey dinner with cornbread stuffing. He said it was the best stuffing he's ever had! The turkey portion was generous and moist, and was real roast turkey-not the fake pressed kind. We can hardly wait to go back for breakfast! read more

First time and last time. We were really excited it being the first time. Great ambiance and decor. Staff was exceptionally accommodating. We had some issues and we generally are pretty easy going and don't get rude or nasty. We are ALWAYS diplomatic. Typically, we laugh issues off. But this was bizarre and weird. We ordered ONE pecan pancake (but received a full order), a side of bacon, a side of biscuits and gravy, a French Dip sandwich and fries, and drinks. We asked if we could have a cup of green chili after meal was delivered. We did not receive the cup of green chili. The biscuits-and-gravy was cold twice (plate was warmer than the gravy), 3rd time it was definitely hot and steamy. A little too much fennel spice, but not bad. The manager came over and was aware we had an issue with the biscuits and gravy and said we would get a "discount." But not specific in regard to the "discount." The server was not aware that we ordered a cup of green chili and at this point we did not want it. When I inquired if it was on the bill she said it was and that the manager refused to remove the cost of the cup of green chili (even though we had NOT received it - the bizarre part) but gave us a $1 "discount" for the biscuits and gravy. We were forced a cup of green chili to take home even though we did not want it since it wasn't delivered during meal. The manager also FORCED upon us a bananas foster desert that we did not want (at no cost). Giving us a free forced upon desert and forced upon cup of chili is very poor customer service. We just wanted the price of the chili removed. We did not care about a free desert. We, generally, don't order a desert. The manager obviously has poor customer service skills. First time in customer service? We tipped the server generously (24.5% of the full cost of the meal). PS. The French dip juice and meat was flavorless (typically cheese is included but not here extra cost) and fries were luke warm. read more

The 2 stars are only for portion size and cleanliness. Everything else could'e and should've been better. We each ordered a Benedict dish for breakfast. My main complaint is that the Hollandaise sauce was tasteless-- heavy egg, zero lemon flavor, zero butter flavor-- the line-cook tried to mask this by covering both our dishes with so much paprika it was laughable. On top of that the server brought my tea in a pot with a lid that wouldn't even close-- I had to put a ketchu bottle on my teapot to keep it warm. When I asked for lots of cream, the server pointed to the small bowl with just 4 creamers-- I had to get my own "more" from the next table over. I had to ask the server to remove the trash on the table I'd put by the table edge, she'd walked by 3x ignoring it. Atmosphere was a clean restaurant with excessively bright fluorescent lights, with plastic diner booths and decorative dish-names posted around the upper rim of the walls. The fresh-squeezed orange juice was the best part of the meal. Our breakfast bill was $55- after I spoke with the manager about the Hollandaise sauce, he took a whopping $5 off the bill. I cannot un-recommend a place to spend your money at any stronger. read more
