    a sub sandwich
    Brian T.

Worst Italian sub I ever had. The meat consisted of mortadella (bologna with fat spots,) cotto salami (like Oscar Mayer,) some kind of square baked ham, fake mozzarella, big chunks of white onions, tomato chunks, and shredded lettuce. No genoa salami, no capicola, or even hot peppers. The mainstays of an Italian grinder. I would have gotten a better one at Lil General up the street.

I bought the eggplant sub and was underwhelmed with the taste. Maybe because I'm a food snob but this definitely did not hit the spot.

Everything about this place rocks…read more The base menu has some of my favorite go to items, but they're constantly keeping the lineup fresh with creative new rotations. While I can't say I've absolutely loved all of the seasonal specials that come out of the kitchen, they hit the mark enough times to keep me coming back to try the new ones. Servers are friendly, capable, and food comes out quick. I've probably been 30+ times and never am disappointed.

After reading the stellar reviews, we decided to try CHOMP Kitchen and Drinks on Mother's Day…read more Since it was late, we ordered dinner to go. We both ordered the Classic Smash Burger, one with cheese and one without. Unfortunately, both burgers were utterly tasteless, with virtually no seasoning detected at all. The Chomp Sauce that was supposed to elevate the burger was so sparse it barely made an appearance, leaving the burgers bland. Honestly, the bun was the best part. The brussel sprouts I ordered also lacked flavor and seasoning aside from the char, and his Cajun fries were so salty they were nearly inedible. After driving from Massachusetts to Rhode Island as a special Mother's Day treat, it ended up being a very disappointing experience, especially given the overwhelmingly positive reviews. We may have caught them on an unusually busy night, but unfortunately our meals fell far short of our expectations.

Providence's own version of CHEERS…read more I've been here several times now and consider the Ivy Tavern to be the best bar in Providence. The customers are all super nice, unique, and interesting humans. Moreover, the staff of AAJJMO --- Alex, Allen, Josh, Julia, Mike, and Olivia --- are incredibly friendly, witty, and funny. The cocktails and food are also outstanding - I especially recommend the bimbap bowl, fish and chips, korean wings, and burger. You will also find the service to be top notch. The bartenders/servers gird up their loins and exhibit extreme hustle during peak hours, while still being able to charm you with a wink or a joke as they move from table to table. If you have not been to the Ivy in the past few years, I highly recommend it. Since Allen was hired as manager a few years ago, the place has become one of Providence's hidden gems.

Rating: 3.5 stars…read more The food was good, but not worth the price. The burger didn't taste like anything special and the bun just tasted like it was pulled right from the store-bought bag. Similarly, the fries were definitely from a freezer bag of french fries and barely had salt or pepper. Basically it tasted like what you'd have at like a backyard cookout? TLDR: fine, but it shouldn't cost $18 + tip. For this price I expect a nice toasted bun & homemade fries & a bit more flavor. They also messed up my order which is not a big deal but the waiter came back to the table to confirm my order and when he repeated it back, he had the temperature and the cheese wrong. It was then brought to me with tomato but no lettuce-- I had asked for lettuce with no tomato. The waiter was nice though!

The weekdays are easier to get a table or bar seat. I love all the burgers, wings, hot dogs and shakes (Boozy or regular). Cons: I basically love everything on the menu EXCEPT the crinkle fries and the taco salad. (The crinkle fires I never liked but I am starting to see them more in some bars. They seem to not as crunchy as the regular fries and hold more grease including being more mushy then crunchy as mentioned before. The taco is like a Salsa salad which greens and Salsa. The taste is not bad but it becomes a wet salad). Pros: Everything else on the menu fantastic! My favorites: Turkey burger , mushroom burger, providence burger bar special, chili cheese hot dog, fried Mac and cheese, Strawberry Shake with a frozen fruit INCLUDING the Garlic Parmesan Buffalo wings. The only place I know can do hot dogs this great besides wieners from Olneyville and Babbas! Service: Incredible and friendly service. Only on the weekends service becomes wicked busy due to the number of crowds. One of my other favorite spots! :-)

From the moment we sat down at the bar, Samantha immediately made us feel welcome. She's not just friendly and attentive, she clearly knows her craft. She made one of the best Old Fashioneds I've had in a long time. Perfectly balanced, smooth, and exactly what you want when you sit down to unwind. The food absolutely matched the experience at the bar. The White Bean & Tomato soup was fantastic. It had a rich, comforting flavor and tasted incredibly fresh. It's the kind of dish that seems simple but is clearly done with care. For the main course, I ordered the sirloin steak cooked medium rare, and it came out exactly as ordered. Perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in getting the details right. Between the great food and Samantha's outstanding service and cocktails, Avenue N delivered a really memorable experience. First of all, the restaurant itself is small but very cute, cozy, and full of lovely New England-y Sea-Themed decor. We were promptly seated and had our order taken for our drinks & food - I had heard good things about this place, so I got a decent amount of food items, including: Lobster Roll - Arguably the best lobster roll I've ever had so far in my life. The brioche bun for it was soooo fluffy, soft, and a perfect complement to the big, juicy chunks of lobster that were seasoned and buttered JUST right. Also came with hefty and well-seasoned fries. New England Clam Chowder - Came with salted pork and potatoes in addition to the quahog clams. It was deliciously creamy and soothing to slurp on and the chunks within were all so tender and a great contrast. Clam Cakes - Added them to the Clam Chowder order for an extra $8. Big, hefty, doughy balls that were perfectly fried outside and ooey gooey within. Fish & Chips - Big, hefty fish that was juicy & delicious with a great crunch on the outside! Similarly came with the 'chips', or the hefty, well-seasoned fries that the lobster roll also came with. Oh yeah, pardon me, forgetting to mention the drinks! We ordered the Briny Martini and the Harbor House Punch! The Martini was great for a stronger drink and the Punch was a nice cocktail for anyone preferring something sweeter and fruitier. When it came to the food, service, and dining experience...it couldn't have been better! Everything was incredibly delicious and definitely worth ordering. This memorable experience then reached exceptional circumstances, however, as while we were in the middle of dining here and enjoying our delicious food, there was a shooting occurring just up the street at Brown University. I wish to commend the staff at Dune Brothers, who looked out for mine and their other patrons' safety and sheltering us in their restaurant as we all nervously waited for more information on what exactly was going on that evening. Exceptional circumstances aside, this restaurant is also exceptional when it comes to the quality of their food and service. I highly recommend coming here if you're in Providence!
