Because I know about this little hidden gem already, I was driving home after a long day and I wasn't going to pass it without stopping. This is what I'd call emotional support pizza. Not a pilgrimage. Not a revelation. Just a really solid pie from a place that knows what it's doing and doesn't need to make a fuss about it. Pepperoni and black olive for me today. The crust had that chew you want, cooked through, some golden brown color on the bottom. The sauce was rich tomato with garlic running underneath the cheese, present enough to know it's there without fighting for attention. The olives were generous and distributed like someone thought about where they landed, not just dropped from a height. The pepperoni is cupped and charred slightly at the edges. The toppings-to-cheese ratio was right. It arrived fast and it arrived hot. This is what a revered neighborhood pizza place is supposed to be. Maria's does it. It's primarily takeout, four tables, busy foot traffic in and out the whole time I was there. They do good business and they know what their business is. I am hooked on Maria's pizza. I stopped in as the are a contestant in the RI Food Fight's Lord of the Pies competition and got a small pizza with sausage. I ordered over the phone and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes. I walked into the shop twenty minutes later and it was ready. The staff was very courteous and the whole ordering/paying process was as it should be - easy! I took it home and it had just cooled enought to eat it. This is the type of pizza I love. A thinker crust, loaded with mozzarella, and a nice sauce that was not overwhelming. The sausage had a nice spice to it. (For the record, I am not a fan on New Haven style pizza, which seems to be popular in RI - this is not that. Nor is it New York style - which I do like BUT not over the style that Maria's serves.) On a quest for the best wings, my journey brought me here to Maria's. A humble spot that has you feeling like it's been here a while. Adorable but kitchy pizza signs decorate the walls and stacks of Pepsi products surround you. Walk up counter service here, but there's a few tables to sit and enjoy your food. We got a large pepperoni pizza and Thai peanut wings. The pizza was a solid pie. Nice sauce, good cheese, crust is chewy but still a little crispy. Above average for what you find in the state. The wings were decent. They were fried hard enough to get that snap you need in a breadless wing. They're not a jumbo wing by any means but you don't feel like they're scrawny. The sauce was good but pretty basic to me. With a few tweaks I think it could be excellent! I would get their wings again but try a more traditional sauce to see how they compare. I didn't get any ranch or blue cheese with it so if you like your dips, make sure to ask when ordering. I've been here a few times now and each time I leave satisfied. Truly thin crust which is hard to find around here! We got half cheese and onion and half broccoli (for the vegetarian in my life). It was pretty good although it was kinda cold by the time we ate it (not Maria's fault). My boyfriend wished the crust were a little more crispy. All in all a true thin crust pizza. First time coming here. I came with a few friends and let them decide on the food we'd eat. We ended up getting a small bacon pizza and loaded tater tots. These wouldn't have been my first options since from previous experience at other places, bacon on pizza is usually undercooked and tots can have a freezer taste. None of these were true for this place. The small bacon pizza is a good portion for sharing with one other person if you're looking to get 60% full or by yourself for a full meal and maybe feel a bit stuffed (results may vary). The cheese is good. There isn't too much sauce where other toppings are clouded. The crust is perfectly crunchy but soft. And, best part was the crispy flavorful bacon. The loaded tots were all really good. They had nacho cheese and a healthy (or rather unhealthy) amount of bacon. Simple but great flavor. Prices here are reasonable and they have a good amount of options on the menu, with some unique items that I would want to try next. The food came out at a reasonable pace and the workers are friendly and patient. There's plenty of indoor seating with a clean environment. There's a parking lot which is good but my only observation was that the handicapped parking is poorly placed where if someone is parked in the spot next to it, the handicapped car can't physically get in or out. read more

We wanted to try both their pizza and wings so we ordered a large pizza and two orders of wings (teriyaki and Thai peanut) The pizza looked amazing and tasted great and we liked that they cut a round pizza into many smaller squares - a perfect size for the kids! On Google this pizza joint shows up as a convenience store so I thought there was a kitchen in the back... which would be okay, but Maria's is right next door in a small lot right on Pontiac Ave in Cranston about a half a mile from Sockanosset intersection. Although I didn't stay there to eat I could have: 2 big TVs and smelled like pizza. I ordered their most popular spicy and sweet wings using my #RIFoodFight #LordoftheWings passport. The original that I've had all over Italy is similar but with a smaller amount of buffalo and some fresh basil for a Margherita. You can have the various specials and, yes the infamous Hawaiian with pineapple. To those purists and naysayers...It's a free country so get whatever you want. It has always arrived hot and I love that they cut the large into squares so I don't feel quite so much as a pig eating more. Dainty, ain't I? The prices are very fair and with so many other shops out there with the latest gimmicks and climbing prices, I continually return to what I like best. We were delivered soggy undercooked fries. A small cheese pizza shouldn't be that hard to make. They put way too much cheese on the pizza and also undercooked the dough. The delivery guy let the pizza slide or sit at an angle so half of the cheese slid down the pizza. We got mozzarella sticks that weren't bad, but they had the marinara free floating in the bag so that ended up on the floor and made a mess. It's not often I have to rate a restaurant so low, especially when they have above and beyond service. I called twice and both times the interaction was pleasant and hospitable. When I went to pick up my order the staff again was friendly and even offered to carry my order to my car for me. Things didn't take a turn until we got home and opened our $70 meal of 28 wings, a large specialty pizza and a baklava for dessert. The pizza was fresh and had plenty of fresh ingredients. It was a solid 6/10. The wings however were so disappointing. They all had soggy skin and the sauce was at the bottom of the container with the wings just sitting on top. They were not coated and there was nothing crispy about the wings at all. Just plain fried wings with soggy skin and a very small sauce puddle underneath. I tried to cover them with whatever sauce I could get out of the container and put them in the oven to hopefully get them to crisp up but the entire meal was just a fail. My daughter and I are not huge pizza eaters so we were really hoping for good wings on Super Bowl Sunday. We also didn't get any celery sticks which I told would be included. Just unfortunate. I love Maria's. They have been my go to pizza place since the old owner left and the new guys took over. I would give them five stars except the past few months have been extremely inconsistent. My family gets the same thing every week. For a few years it was a large pizza half Greek and half pepperoni. For the past 6 months or so (my kids are getting bigger) it is now a large Greek pizza and a small pepperoni pizza. The Greek pizza is always hit or miss. It seems every other week we get a Greek pizza that is either way too overcooked or does not have enough toppings on it. Tonight was pretty bad. It was very overcooked to the point that the cheese was burnt on top. The toppings didn't go anywhere near the crust which made the crust about 2-3 inches deep in spots and some pieces did not have any toppings at all except for a few pieces of burnt cheese. I will order it next week and it will be perfect but then the week after we might get half the toppings or burnt cheese again. For $25 I want more consistency. I love this place. I don't want to find another pizza Update: went back to the half pepperoni half Greek a few months ago. Still inconsistent. Went today to pick it up and again there was pepperoni and sauce on the Greek side. The girl at the counter was awesome. Super great customer service. Solid consistent performance and value from this place. Food Fights has brought me here twice, once for pizza and again for wings. Service has been great both times, and food leaves nothing to complain about. The wings are what you expect, no gimmick ideas, just classic, delicious wings with solid sauce flavors. I know it's changed ownership a few times and has got worse each time this last order will be my last we ordered delivery quoted 35 minutes food arrived a full hour and a half later not only was it cold but our pizza was burnt beyond recognition! The bottom was blacker than charcoal ordered extra pepperoni on a large and counted 12 total! The gyro bread was so stale I went to bite into it and it broke and half and instead of putting the tzatziki sauce on it they put friggen ranch dressing! Local pizza joint in Cranston. Maria's makes a pretty mean pizza, it's delicious! They make your pizza fast, even if you order online. Also, their customer service is really good. So far, my favorite is their Maria's white pizza. Not the best pizza in the world, but its pretty delicious and pretty cheap for the price. We also tried their honey BBQ wings which were okay, but not the best. I would only recommend the pizza and bread if you wanted to get something. There was one time, however, where we did get an overcooked pizza with hardened dough bites. It didn't taste bad, it was just less appetizing overcooked. I have recently started working in the area (or at least the delivery area!) of this classic pizza place. A few co-workers have ordered the pizza, which I think is good, not amazing, but good. I find pizza crust to be as personal a taste as choosing a cologne or perfume! I like their pizza crust...it's thin but thick enough to be crisp. I like a pizza crust that doesn't fill me up so I can't eat more of the better part of the pizza! I think the sauce is just a bit bland, but the right toppings bring it to life. Their strength is definitely their sandwiches! Particularly the Chickens Parmesan grinder...the first week at my new job I ate these all week long!!! I do like food. It is standard food but consistent. I tried to place order over phone and twice was placed on hold but not really on hold. The wait was over 7 minutes each time? I heard the staff playing around in the background.....I called a third time and quickly asked not to go on hold again....the lady on the line said they were busy? I have been going to this place forever...I have never seen more than three people in store at one time once. I guess tonight all of Cranston decided to go and have a sit down candle light dinner at Maria's. The lady on the phone didn't take my order and tried to put me on hold again! The gyros, something was missing, the tzatziki sauce was not authentic, still good but not classic Greek.
