Avenue N is one of those places that reminds you why a well-run neighborhood restaurant can be such a gem. From the moment we sat down at the bar, Samantha immediately made us feel welcome. She's not just friendly and attentive, she clearly knows her craft. She made one of the best Old Fashioneds I've had in a long time. Perfectly balanced, smooth, and exactly what you want when you sit down to unwind. The food absolutely matched the experience at the bar. The White Bean & Tomato soup was fantastic. It had a rich, comforting flavor and tasted incredibly fresh. It's the kind of dish that seems simple but is clearly done with care. For the main course, I ordered the sirloin steak cooked medium rare, and it came out exactly as ordered. Perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in getting the details right. Between the great food and Samantha's outstanding service and cocktails, Avenue N delivered a really memorable experience. I'm not sure if they were having an off night or if this is common, but I would not choose this location over their original rumford location. I appreciate the availability of reservations. Our party sat and ordered drinks , and it took almost 25 minutes for them to come. They were dropped off by someone that wasn't our waitress and no one asked for our food order. After 45 mins of being there, we ended up asking the bus boy to please get our waitress. Then the food itself took over another 30 minutes. We got there at 7 and did not receive our meals until 815pm. We overheard another table discussing their wait, so it wasn't just our party. Additionally, a table of 2 that sat much after us received their food about 20 minutes before us. Overall, it was not the experience we've come to expect from the Avenue N brand. The food was good, though the burger and the pizza were lacking. Those that got seafood were extremely happy with their choice so that's great Atleast. Overall this is a good spot if you've got all night and can take your time and can risk spending a long time there. I saw the glowing reviews on Yelp for Avenue N on Hope Street and decided to check it out with some friends. We arrived at 7 on a Friday night and the dining room was pretty much full- though it wasn't too overwhelming since the tables are spaced apart well. It was a bit energetic and we were seated after several minutes because we had a reservation; I can see it being hard to get a table on a weekend if you don't have a reservation. We sat by the window and were greeted by our server, who was very upbeat and gave us in depth descriptions of their specials for the night. We settled on some of their humorously-named cocktails and ordered some appetizers. After ten minutes, our server arrived back with the fried oysters, wings, Brussel Sprouts and pork baos that we ordered. My favorite was the fried oysters, which were so light and fresh, but all of them were delicious. For my main course, I chose the pan seared scallops which came on a bed of risotto. The presentation for this dish was done very well and the scallops were perfectly cooked. The risotto got a bit repetitive towards the end but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Overall, my experience at Avenue N was great and I recommend it to anyone in the area looking for a fantastic and modern take on New England cuisine. read more

Been a loyal patron for about 5 years. The pizzas are always amazing. Have dined in, have gotten take out never had an issue. Until last night. My wife loves the little gem salad, had it probably a dozen times. This would NEVER get served in house. The core of the lettuce was rotting causing all the leaves to have some nasty slimy aspect to them and garde manger or who ever is running that station thought it was cool to send this since odds are maybe 1/20 people Will actually act on it. I came on a Friday evening as a walk in and the host was able to accommodate me right away. I love black truffles and the chef here must love them too. I decided to try their croquettes, made with beef cheek and, you guessed it, black truffle, and malt vinegar aioli with smoked parsnip relish. Absolutely delish, 3 croquettes, crunchy crusty on the outside, gooey truffled bechamel goodness inside. I followed that with their onion and poblano soup gratin, which in addition had gruyere cheese and truffle cream. OMG so delicious and satisfying, I should have stopped there. But I couldn't resist their flourless chocolate torte, with drizzled raspberry sauce and topped with homemade whipped cream. Had a great time at this restaurant! I have been wanting to try it out ever since they moved into the spot and I usually see they are very busy on the weekends. We were able to snag a seat on a weeknight and we're very impressed with the food. I was not super hungry and the waitress suggested that I could get "half orders" or something so I got a half salad and some sliders that were on the appetizer menu and it was perfect! There are only five pieces of oysters, but they are quite filling if you're ordering another appetizer and dessert. The calamari was excellent and so fresh. Officially one of my new favorite restaurants in providence! When you walk in, there's dim lighting which I particularly enjoyed especially because it made the providence sign stand out. Our waitress was kind and very attentive from the minute we were seated. Now the food was divine, everything was perfect. We ordered the calamari and each ordered the short rib with gnocchi. Enjoying a meal here is never a disappointment. Since I am house sitting in the area, I made a point to pop on in for an early dinner. Just as they open is the perfect time to get in there before the crowds arrive. As a solo diner, the corner end of the bar is the perfect place to enjoy a meal and talk to the bartender. Super cute and intimate (read: small) restaurant. The staff was very friendly and efficient, especially our server, Rachel. She provided honest recommendations and was so nice to chat with. I was celebrating my recently defended dissertation so she comped me a drink and she also didn't hesitate to switch out my friend's drink when my friend didn't like it. My group shared a few appetizers which we all enjoyed.I wasn't a fan of the empanadas but that's a personal preference. I really enjoyed my meal, which was a special of the day, however the steak was not cooked properly. We think the kitchen messed up the temps because my other friend got a medium steak and I got a well steak which were opposite orders. The other girls got a salmon dish and burgers which they all enjoyed. Then we shared one cheesecake and one tiramisu which we all loved. I initially called asking a lot of (annoying and tedious) questions, some of which included a reservation, a bottle of wine recommendation, many others I can't even remember - all of which were time sensitive. Liam helped me patiently through out the entire process and I even called back a while later for some follow up questions I forgot to ask! But rather than looking the other way, we were treated so well and offered a drink and snack while we waited the extended time. I got the cubanelle pepper rellenos to start. They were cooked perfectly and the "eggplant chorizo" filling was super rich and complex. This was my favorite part of the meal. Had the crispy oysters which were good and also ordered the steak and mushroom pizza which got a lot of attention. It was pretty dense with cheese and delish. Definitely recommended! We also ordered the scallops, which were pretty good. Could have had a bit more sear for my taste but still very good.
