I took them a 2002 Tacoma with several problems. First it was a oil leak causing a coil pack to go out. Fixed no problem. Then I had a engine light that's been on a while and it started out being an o2 sensor, took it home and the light kept coming back on. David diagnosed the problems several times and being that I didn't get the sensor fixed a long time ago caused several other parts to not work properly any longer. David took his time explaining each and every problem with each part making me fully understand each issue. He solved every problem i had and was very professional along the way. I made an appointment for 8:00 am for a wheel alignment. The car is a Japanese-spec Nissan Figaro - fully restored and very valuable. I arrived at 7:50, and although the "open" light was not on, the front door was open. I walked in and was greeted immediately. The car was taken back five minutes later. The car has freshly powder coated wheels so the manager came in to talk to me several times to collaborate and suggest ways to attach the alignment clamps on the wheels without scratching them. I build show cars and do almost all of my own work. But some things need to be hired out. I am VERY particular about my cars and Tower didn't disappoint. read more

Still batting 1000. They saved us two years ago with our "beater" car enabling us to keep it on the road with their honest pricing, professional service and follow through. Today they did it again with our Mustang, which is still running the factory brake pads at 100,000 miles. So I dropped it off for some maintenance services and a request for front and rear brake replacement service. When I was notified it was ready for pick up I saw that the charges didn't indicate a brake job on either axle. When I mentioned this the mechanic informed me that there was still a good 40% lining left on the pads and that he didn't recommend replacement at this time. So rather than just going ahead with the $500+ charge to do the service that I still can't believe didn't need to be done, they once again insured that I will return when the brakes do need replacing. My son and his girlfriend broke down Tuesday night in Macon on their way here and then on to NC for Christmas. We had a long distance tow through AAA (who were a nightmare but that's another story) to Tower on the recommendation of a friend. Drop off at 2:30 am and we put the keys in the night slot. When I went by at 8:20 they already had the car inside and were starting to diagnose the problem. Alternator and battery were no good but they had the car ready that same day and the kids were able to continue on to NC for Christmas as planned. Husband called for an appointment for a estimate on our ac. We assumed that like every other mechanic it would be a free estimate, and no price was quoted on the phone. Only AFTER they inspected the car did they mention it was an $80 charge! Absolutely ridiculous! Completely misleading and unethical for them to only mention the charge afterwards! read more

I brought my wife's 5 speed manual '98 Wrangler in to Tower Auto to get a 3" lift kit installed, radiator replaced, oil pressure gauge sensor replaced, and a new set of 33" tires installed and aligned. The communication over the span of the project (roughly a week) was severely lacking. Each time I or my wife would call we got a new front desk attendant and would have to re-explain who we were and the situation of our vehicle. I always initiated the first contact in order to get an update on the vehicle as well. Upon receiving her jeep back, everything looked great from first glance.. and then we drove it. We experienced the shifter boot and console were now in the way (preventing her jeep from staying or going into 2nd gear easily). We then had the problem of a good looking jeep that didn't drive well. We then had to take it back (after 2 phone calls where they assured us there was no problem and that this was normal). Once we took it back, all necessary work was performed to get the jeep back to normal function. This leads me to believe that once the lift was put on there was never a test drive performed by the mechanic, leaving us to find a problem. Further inconveniencing us by having to bring our car back again. All the trouble and thousands of dollars later, the jeep is as it should be. I would be wary when taking your vehicle to this establishment as they gave the least amount of communication, explanation, and care of any auto shops I have experienced in the area. I will be taking my business elsewhere, even if the wait is longer to ensure a job done right the first time. read more

Giving this place one star because they'll rip you off. Took my Jeep in they wanted to charge me 1,400 dollars because the ball joints needed to be replaced. Like legit rip off. I said nah I'm good I'll come pick it up still charges me a 40 dollar fee for just for it being looked at LOL K... they'll nickel and dime ya anyway they can.. with that being said I took it somewhere else and got an estimate significantly cheaper... So I'd get an estimate anywhere else before coming here. read more

I asked members of my community who was the most honest auto repair place around. Towers name (and some others) , came up several times. So i took my truck there. I was worried because I needed a repair that would have been easy for a shady mech to upsell me all kinds of parts I didn't need. They did a great job and didn't try to upsell me anything. The total price was a little more than half what the original quote. In my mnd this level of honesty is the #1 most important thing in an auto repair. Above competence even. I am new to the area and have been looking for an auto mechanic that was trustworthy, could do oil changes and tires (so I could get all my service done at one location at one time) and did Nitrogen in tires. Anytime a mechanic has to tell you how honest they are multiple times while trying to get you to sign the dotted line, it's time to walk. Took a 25 year old van in on 3 separate occasions for an intermittent misfire. First they didn't feel it and charged me a diagnostic fee and recommended I change the shocks if it's shaking. Second time they decided it must be the distributor cap/ignition cables and made an easy $450 off of that job. "The misfire went away so we did our part". Well no, sir, that's actually what intermittent means. It comes and goes on its own. In my most recent experience they decided to change the entire UCM(engine computer). After promising not 3 day delivery ("which is the time frame it almost always comes in, but just to be safe"-owner) but 4 days, I get the call to get the part the evening of the 6th day. And a bill for diagnosing the problem..which I seem to recall paying for twice now. So to have them install the part, it would have cost around $400-500. To buy the part outright, $475. It's $120 on most websites. I walked. Tower automotive uses the most basic mechanic/sales pitch in the world- fix one piece at a time related to the problem until you can't charge to fix anything else. They will give you the highest bill they can get away with, then let the customer argue their way down to a more reasonable cost, but how many people just nod and overpay the first try? And as I was walking out the door-they suggested it could be a bent rod-a whole new reason for the misfire.. I can't help but wonder if that is what they knew the be the problem in the first place. Take your business elsewhere to some honest folks-shown by quality of their work, not by having to be told repeatedly. I will NEVER recommend anyone here. read more

I was in the middle of a nightmare moving experience thanks to Budget Truck Rentals and the owner of Tower Auto saved my bacon. Tower is an agent for Budget but this means they have no control over inventory, maintenance, etc. - just the actual renting. I had a car trailer with really bad tires and was not about to hit the road with these. I contacted roadside and they dispatched service. I kept getting the response, "soon", "2 hours", "45 more min", "I'm lost", etc. During all this, even though Tower was closed (at noon on Saturday), the owner, Brent, was doing some work so allowed me to sit in his wait room and watch TV. Then, he stuck around until 7pm while Budget got their sh#t together. I offered to pay him something for all his trouble but he refused. After all this, when I attempted to leave Sunday am, I discovered the truck hitch was the wrong size. Lucky for me the owner happened to stop by and check on things and I told him the problem. And again, even though they were closed, he worked with Budget and opened his garage and replaced the hitch without issue. I was all fixed by 4pm on a Sunday. It has been years since I've come across such a nice, honest business owner like this who'd basically give up a weekend to assist a stranded traveler. If I wasn't moving out of state they'd have another customer for life. They're AAA rated and work on all cars and trucks. I was recently in the middle of a issue with my coils and spark plugs. I brought it there to see if they could figure it out. They said they had to replace the number 1 coil and then said it would be over $400 for the repair. They already had it apart and was charging me for the "diagnostic" fee. I have done coils myself in my vehicle and this coil was front right. Takes me 20mins which would take them 10mins but charge me what the book says of 4hrs. I asked him why and the owner said very sarcastically that I don't make them I just fix them. If you want to get ripped off from a place that obviously only cares about the dollar this is your place. read more

Friendly service but just priced too high for a tune up. I paid an outrageous amount for spark plugs to be replaced and the only concession was we will give 20.dollars off next visit. They never called to tell me how much it would cost and when questioned the manager said we use platnium plugs at the tune of a very high bill. I never requested platnuim they decided on there own to do it. Needless to say, I never went back and never will. read more

As a follow up to my earlier post regarding my cracked oil filter cartridge, I called Brent to explain what had happened and that our car had now been out of commission for over a week due to his mechanic's carelessness. He immediately apologized and, without my asking, volunteered to refund the cost of the new cartridge - $120+! Tower did the responsible thing and I will rate their service two stars now. I prefer to chalk this whole experience off to a "bad day at Tower". read more

STUDENTS BEWARE - My daughter is a student at UNG and has visited Tower Auto for repairs two times in the last six months - first for a battery replacement, and today for alternator replacement. The first experience was satisfactory, but their prices seemed high. When she picked up her car today, she asked the owner's wife if they noticed that the "maintenance" and "tire pressure" lights were ON. To her surprise, the owner's wife (Rhonda Tower) gave her lots of attitude! The owner (Brent Tower) intervened and his mechanic found a nail in one of her tires, and that she was 3,000 miles overdue for an oil change. They wanted $26 to PATCH her tire - she drove across the street and Kaufman Tire offered to patch the tire for FREE with an oil change. As a father, Tower Auto's lack of customer service and its failure to care for my daughter's SAFETY are inexcusable!!! read more

OVER PRICED AND SUB-PAR REPAIRS! I was a customer for six years and never really had a bad experience with my two cars until recently. They did a brake job and failed to check the wheel cylinders (brake job 101) that were leaking and ruined the brake shoes! Two weeks later they replaced the wheel cylinders and the shoes and told me they wouldn't charge me for the new shoes. WOW! HOW KIND OF THEM! It was THEIR FAULT to begin with! Then recently I had the ignition switch replaced! They charged me almost double ($317.00) incld. a diagnostic fee of $69.95 for what the going rate that their competition charge for the same repair and no diagnostic fee! One repair shop told me that a good mechanic with a meter could tell in about 5 minutes if it was the starter or the ignition switch! I asked for only a $75.00 refund which they refused to give me! I don't know what's happening with "Tower Auto Repair" lately but they lost me, my family and friends as customers over a$75.00 refund! And lastly, I would suggest taking your business elsewhere! read more

Initially I brought my car to Tower with an overheating problem. I was told that my water pump needed to be replaced. The job got done and I thought that everything would be fine. It was a little pricey but at least I was back on the road. The next morning, my car overheated. Just for a few minutes and then everything seemed to be working alright. A couple of days later a check engine light came on. I went to an auto parts store that does free checks but for some reason their machine was unable to tell what the problem was. I called Tower and told the receptionist about the overheating problem and the check engine light and asked if I could bring my car in the next morning. I was told that the next morning was full up and that it would be better to bring it in during the afternoon. I decided to just leave it overnight hoping that it would be taken care of quickly. When I called in the morning I was told that the person who needed to look at it wouldn't be there until after lunch. When I called after lunch, I was told that he was busy on another car and he would get to it when he could. When I called right before closing time, I was told that he hadn't had time to get to it, but he would start on it in the morning. If I were a mechanic, and I worked on someone's car, and they brought it back a few days later saying that it was having the same problem that I had "fixed", I would make that car my number one priority. Not so at Tower. The following afternoon, I called and said that I was coming to pick up my car because I had to leave for work by 2 PM. At this point I was told that there was a blockage in my radiator and that it needed to be replaced. I was also told that the check engine light came on because of a bad air pump switching valve. When I arrived I was charged $69.95 to tell me about the check engine light and told that replacing the radiator would cost $525. At no point was any explanation given as to why this wasn't noticed the first time. Immediately after driving away from the shop, my car overheated. Things were now worse than when I had arrived. I was unable to go to work. After leap-frogging my car home, I started calling around to other shops in the area. Every single one gave me a lower price on replacing the radiator by at least $75. I took the car to another shop who did the work in a matter of hours and also found that the housing for the thermostat (which Tower had installed) was leaking. My experience with Tower has been the worst of any mechanic shop I have ever been to. I will never return and I will recommend that others stay far away. read more
