I tried A Place for Mom, but the information was outdated, pricing wasn't accurate, and I was bombarded with calls from facilities that didn't match our needs. I was connected with Oasis through a social worker, and working with Aaron has been an entirely different experience. He immediately understood my situation, my budget, and the level of care my dad needs. He selected the most appropriate options and even took me on a tour himself. Since I don't drive, he kindly drove me to each facility. Aaron is local and very familiar with the area's memory care communities. He had the most up-to-date pricing, availability, and real feedback from residents and families. On the first day, we visited three facilities -- all of them excellent, within my tight budget, and truly appropriate for my dad. I didn't need to look any further. The entire service was completely free of charge, which was such a relief during an already overwhelming time. I am incredibly grateful for Oasis and for Aaron's guidance. Thanks to their help, I finally feel like my dad will be in good hands and I can start to get my life back.

Heartland wasn't a perfect match for Mom, but it was a great match. I checked Mom in based on prior reviews, so I had high expectations. There were some bumps along the way, but I was really impressed with how dedicated the people were to meeting Mom's needs, making her comfortable, and resolving any issues that came up. Mom spent about three months at Heartland paid for by Medicare as rehab and about three months self-pay in their nursing care. It's all the same care, it's just a matter of who is paying. She spent a week on their assisted living floor trying to live independently, but it just didn't work. What I was struck by, at all levels, was how approachable everyone was. From the aides to the administrator, everyone was there for Mom and for our family. I wish I could name each of their names (I have them all written down here somewhere), but I'd miss someone important and I don't want to do that. More than anything else, Mom wanted to get back to her apartment at her old assisted living center, but Heartland took much better care of her and she was just too ill to return to her old lifestyle. Ultimately, Mom died at Heartland. I could wish for a better ending to her story, but not a better ending to her life. She died comfortably, loved, and well taken care of. Thank you Heartland and each of you who worked with Mom. I would have no hesitation recommending Heartland. Visit for yourself. The building is a bit worn, but the staff are wonderful, organized, and they react quickly to the needs of their patients and residents.

Even through some rough days (AC issues) the staff never complained. The staff worked so hard to make sure all patients were taken care of and comfortable. These staff members are gems super hard to find, they care so much for others and it shows Very rare! The physical therapy worked very hard on getting my mother back up and running. Very professional and through. We went through many difficult days but having such great healthcare workers to ask questions and depend on made our stay stress free. Bless you all. The cleanliness is above and beyond any healthcare facility I've ever been to. Bedding, floors, housekeeping does a remarkable job (10 out of 10) again I sound like a broken record the attention to detail was never missed and the level housekeeping provided was AMAZING! Small complaint would be the food was not that great (lack of ice in drinks, bland taste, cafeteria type food) that is expected though still besides the food this would be my first and only choice to send my mother again if ever needed. The teamwork in this facility works above and beyond to make your stay a pleasant one. Our family thanks each one of you for the compassionate care you provided us during a stressful time. Small town with huge hearts and treated us just like they would treat their own family members. God bless

This review is for Brookdale on Jones Maltsberger. Before deciding to place a loved one at this…read morefacility, please read this review and look up "lawsuits against Brookdale Senior Living." This is a Type B facility, meaning it should be able to provide 24/7 care for residents with limited mobility. My mom stayed here only a little over a month and experienced what we believe was neglect along with verbal and financial abuse. Shortly after moving in, she suffered an injury that left her barely able to walk due to severe pain. We quickly learned this facility could not provide the compassionate and attentive care they claimed they could. During this time, Brookdale leadership suggested hospice and convinced me, while I was emotionally distraught, to add medication dispensing and grooming services. I left that meeting emotionally drained with an additional $1,000 added to my mother's monthly bill believing she would receive the care she needed. I was wrong and looking back, the experience felt predatory. Most second shifts (2-10 p.m.) had only two caregivers for the facility and no supervisor present. Even during first shift, caregivers appeared overwhelmed and rushed. If my mother was asleep, meals were sometimes left out of her reach. I once found Desitin in her toothbrush, and one weekend, she was left in the same nightgown from Friday through Sunday. She often waited 1-2 hours for call requests to be answered, and one night her call went unanswered for six hours. If she had fallen or experienced a medical emergency, help may not have arrived in time. The final turning point came when a caregiver verbally intimidated my mother for using her call button. While my mother was in pain in bed, the caregiver leaned over her and told her to stop pressing the button because they had many other residents to care for and "everyone pays for extra services." After this, my mother became afraid to ask for help during second shift. Her hospice nurse later told me the staff could not care for her appropriately and recommended a personal care home instead. I moved my mother out as quickly as possible. She is now thriving in a personal care home where she is treated with dignity and respect, something that was severely lacking during our experience at Brookdale on Jones Maltsberger. I did not immediately report the verbal abuse because my mother feared retaliation while she still lived there. Instead, I focused on getting her somewhere safe. The fact that she feared retaliation at all says a great deal about the environment there. I have since submitted detailed reports to authorities and included contact information for family, friends, and clinicians who witnessed these issues. Because Brookdale could not adequately care for her, I obtained a support letter from the hospice physician requesting a 14-day notice instead of the full 30 days. The Executive Director rejected this request, insisting the facility could meet her needs despite the serious issues occurring during second shift. I also asked them to consider refunding at least part of the $2,000 community fee my mother paid given she was barely there a month and left under these circumstances, but this was also rejected. Additionally, despite revoking authorization for automatic withdrawals, Brookdale still attempted to withdraw a large disputed amount that would have placed my mom at a deficit if I hadn't already placed a stop payment on Brookdale. I was present at this facility almost daily and my mother was still verbally abused and neglected. I worry deeply about residents who are even more vulnerable because not everyone has someone to advocate for them the way I could for my mother. No family should ever have to wonder whether their loved one is being ignored, humiliated, or left to suffer behind a very costly closed door.

Before he got here I toured the San Marcos offerings and decided on Brookdale SMS and both he and I are happy with the choice. Yes, the building is plain but I learned from Cincinnati that you have to look under the hood and that's where Brookdale shines. Everyone I've encountered goes out of their way to make sure Dad is happy and healthy and keeps me up to date with anything of significance happening in his life. The senior staff are professional and responsive and the aides are pleasant and competent. The low turnover rate of the staff is an indicator of a well run facility, especially in such a demanding field. I felt assured in the Covid-19 precautions and the proof of their efficacy was zero cases, staff and residents; a friend's mother died of Covid in a nearby facility. We would make the same choice again and highly recommend Brookdale San Marcos South.

When a place goes on lockdown almost overnight due to a pandemic one wonders how they will be able to 'be there' for their loved ones. LHV made sure that at least one family member was able to see their loved ones inside their apartments. It was a rough year, but the staff at LHV did their best to balance resident safety with family needs. My Aunt and Uncle lived at LHV for many years. They enjoyed the friends they made, the activities they were afforded, the excellent food created right there on the property with excellent chefs and kitchen staff and access to all manner of activities from a Military Ball for resident veterans to trips out an about the Austin area. LGV has Independent Living apartments as well as an attached Assisted Living section for those times when a little extra help is needed. The staff is caring of the residents and very protective - try to get into that place today without a mask.... I highly recommend LHV as a place to set down roots in your later days.

Unless a family member can be there day and night to advocate for your loved one, they may be left sitting in a wet brief, not fed when they require assistance, and isolated behind a closed door. Call buttons often went unanswered, and our loved one was not consistently repositioned or changed in a timely manner. Staffing appeared inadequate on both weekdays and weekends, but the weekends felt like a ghost town. When a medical concern arose, it seemed the immediate response was to send the resident to the hospital instead of first attempting to address the issue in-house. We were then expected to pay approximately $500 per night privately to hold the room during the hospital stay. Otherwise, we were told the resident's belongings could be packed up and the bed released. Families need to ask about this policy and understand the financial consequences in advance. Based on our experience, the facility seemed far more focused on revenue than on attentive, compassionate care or meaningful rehabilitation. We entered with the hope that our loved one would receive consistent care and therapy and regain strength. Instead, we felt we had to monitor every aspect of the care ourselves. Please visit frequently, ask detailed questions, get all financial policies in writing, and do not assume that a beautiful facility guarantees quality care. Beware of the caring and patient demeanor prior to intake - it all falls apart once they have you there. You have 5 days to show that you can do rehab ad then they start charging private pay at $15,500. This is a journey to say the least and I am hopeful that y'all do not have to go through the skilled nursing circus we have been through - they call it "skilled nursing", but they have 1 nurse and the rest are care workers who know very little.
