There was a delay in my getting there so arrived around supper time in May 2024. They brought me to a small room with a bed that had no rails and very little support. The feel was like a hammock, not good for someone right out of the hospital. I was on a restrictive diet yet the first night I was there I was given steak cut up and some sort of sweet potato. I ate it, I was so hungry. A day went by and the next morning I was told they were calling an ambulance to take me back to the emergency room. I had blockage in the intestines. (This was reason for my emergency surgery in the first place!) My biggest complaint was my medications were supposed to be sent to them when I left the hospital. When I inquired, they didn't have them. I had my last pain pill at 2:00 that afternoon. It was now 9:00 p.m., I was told I would have to wait until the pharmacy opened the next morning. I had an incision down the middle of my abdomen and nothing for pain. Horrible and incompetent!! I was finally given medication for the pain 9:30 that morning. I couldn't sleep the pain was so intense. Around 3:00 am I called for the nurse, I was in tears and covered with sweat, my hospital gown and sheets were soaked, and I was chilly. The person who finally came told me they had no other clothes for me to wear. No offer to change the sheets, she got another blanket and threw it over me. The fastest response time was 20 minutes, I know because I watched the clock. I felt frightened and trapped when that door closed, no one came and checked on me on a regular basis. When I was readmitted to the hospital, I felt such relief! I would be taken care of and no longer felt afraid. Be very careful where you send your loved ones. Especially if they are in a weak condition. Sincerely, Beth Pisz

Heartland wasn't a perfect match for Mom, but it was a great match. I checked Mom in based on prior reviews, so I had high expectations. There were some bumps along the way, but I was really impressed with how dedicated the people were to meeting Mom's needs, making her comfortable, and resolving any issues that came up. Mom spent about three months at Heartland paid for by Medicare as rehab and about three months self-pay in their nursing care. It's all the same care, it's just a matter of who is paying. She spent a week on their assisted living floor trying to live independently, but it just didn't work. What I was struck by, at all levels, was how approachable everyone was. From the aides to the administrator, everyone was there for Mom and for our family. I wish I could name each of their names (I have them all written down here somewhere), but I'd miss someone important and I don't want to do that. More than anything else, Mom wanted to get back to her apartment at her old assisted living center, but Heartland took much better care of her and she was just too ill to return to her old lifestyle. Ultimately, Mom died at Heartland. I could wish for a better ending to her story, but not a better ending to her life. She died comfortably, loved, and well taken care of. Thank you Heartland and each of you who worked with Mom. I would have no hesitation recommending Heartland. Visit for yourself. The building is a bit worn, but the staff are wonderful, organized, and they react quickly to the needs of their patients and residents.

Hi, I just wanted to thank you and all of the staff for making such a wonderful Holiday Season, great Holiday dinners, beautiful decorations and everything else you did to make everyone happy and thankful. We had the most beautiful decorations and the nicest Christmas Tree I have ever seen. You may not realize how much you added to everyone's joyful celebration, but you did. I sent pictures of our decorations to everyone in my family and they loved them too. Most of my family do not live here, but the pictures brought us together. These are the types of things that made me want to come live here. It is because you care, very much, about all of the residents, and we can tell. You don't have to do these things. You do them because you want to and that is what makes them special. This year, if you are looking for volunteers to decorate or anything else for the holidays, please let me know. I would really like to help. It has been many years since I decorated for the holidays. So, if you are looking for a place to live and need a little help from time to time, The Clairmont may be the right place for you. It is the perfect place for me.

There was a problem with the facility apartment insurance request. I paid and submitted the forms about a month prior to move-in and the first bill over 6 weeks later included a fee for not having insurance. I tried contacting the billing office and requested a call back to get things clarified. This did not happen and the problem was not fixed. I again went to Francine who has been my anchor at the Clairmont to get problems fixed. I finally received approval of the policy on October 17th but I had submitted the information in early August! In addition the bill itself was incorrect. The dinning room food has improved, per my father, but the utensils are still awful! I do wish your administrative staff would try using the forks at the facility and imagine that they have arthritis in their hands as these residents frequently do. My dad does better with most plastic forks than the forks supplied at the Clairmont. Please, this should be an easy upgrade. One thing we really appreciate is the ability to have a pet and to have a fenced "yard" area outside of their apartment. I think this adds a homey feel for many of the residents. Better water access would be a plus for those with outside plants. You have outside waste bins for doggy waste but no plastic bags at the one outside of the building for the last 6 weeks. Your showers do not have safety bars inside of the shower, Since most of the residents at this facility use walkers, canes or wheelchairs, why do you think it unnecessary to have a safety bar inside of the shower? This would be a considerate and wise upgrade for the apartments. Overall, we (the family) really like this facility and the people who live and work there. My Dad is still adjusting......

I tried A Place for Mom, but the information was outdated, pricing wasn't accurate, and I was bombarded with calls from facilities that didn't match our needs. I was connected with Oasis through a social worker, and working with Aaron has been an entirely different experience. He immediately understood my situation, my budget, and the level of care my dad needs. He selected the most appropriate options and even took me on a tour himself. Since I don't drive, he kindly drove me to each facility. Aaron is local and very familiar with the area's memory care communities. He had the most up-to-date pricing, availability, and real feedback from residents and families. On the first day, we visited three facilities -- all of them excellent, within my tight budget, and truly appropriate for my dad. I didn't need to look any further. The entire service was completely free of charge, which was such a relief during an already overwhelming time. I am incredibly grateful for Oasis and for Aaron's guidance. Thanks to their help, I finally feel like my dad will be in good hands and I can start to get my life back.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE Experience at Brookdale Westlake Hills…read more My family chose Brookdale Westlake Hills because they took excellent care of my grandfather six years ago. Sadly, the quality of care has gone downhill DRAMATICALLY. The staff now are unprofessional, inattentive, and clearly unhappy in their roles. Every time I've visited -- and after hours of being there, observing staff behavior firsthand -- I've consistently seen them sitting on their phones instead of caring for residents. This is not just a one-time occurrence; it is a pattern that reflects neglect and lack of interest in their responsibilities. When they do interact with residents, it's often with a bad attitude, as though the residents are inconveniencing them. Family members and I have repeatedly asked for updates on our loved one, particularly from NURSE EVAN, and each time we were treated as if we were a nuisance. EVAN often responded with a dismissive tone, gave vague or minimal information, and acted visibly annoyed that we were even asking. At times, it felt like pulling teeth to get even the most basic updates about our loved one's condition -- which is unacceptable when someone's health and dignity are at stake. This is heartbreaking to witness, especially when entrusting them with the care of someone you love. It is shocking and disappointing to see this level of neglect and indifference in a place that is supposed to provide care and compassion. If you value your loved one's dignity and well-being, DO NOT send them here. They are NOT in good hands.
