I'm NOT a drive in fan, but Glenda loves it. Let's see, sit in the car with the windows down and the bugs flying in. The cars on both sides are making too much noise with the kids getting in and out and talking. Please take your keys out so it will quit dinging when the door opens. I know, their just having fun. OR, we sit in an air conditioned building, in a comfy recliner, with the sound system from hell! Yes! Ok, you pick which one. Town & Country's Drive In is a throwback to yesteryear where you can enjoy newly released movies right from your car. The big plus is the value. You pay roughly about $5 to $7.50 per person (depending on which day you go) but you get to see two first-run releases for that price. A better deal you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere in town for four hours of entertainment. They don't gouge you at the concession stand either, which is another plus. Sometimes during peak season they also have concession specials as well. In 2010 we enjoyed 2 movies and 2 dinners (burgers or barbecue with chips and a drink) for 2 people for $20. But because you can take your own car, you can take your own food too. Unlike a theater which frowns on or prohibits outside food, you can stop off at a drive-thru before you even get to Town & Country and that's perfectly okay. Another benefit is the variety. There are two screens, which means you get to choose from four different movies for the same entry price. This ranges from action/adventure and kids fare, so there's usually something for the entire family. Town & Country benefits a lot from current technology. Instead of those clunky speakers we used to deal with at old drive ins, you simply tune into a radio station for the volume, which means you get to enjoy the night from the privacy of your vehicle with no real noise from the other cars. It can be a lot less intrusive than a movie theater where your enjoyment might be compromised by loud or rowdy folks, or those who need to talk on their cell phones during a movie. You can do that in your car and not really bother anyone. The downside is you have to deal with it being an outside venue. Weather will play a factor. If you decide to turn off your car and open your windows, there's usually a decent breeze... but the West Texas heat can be problematic in the summertime - which is the drive in's peak season. My biggest beef is dealing with the state bird of Texas - the mosquito. If you go, do NOT go without some kind of spray or repellent. It will turn a great night into a losing battle with annoyance. Our family will be moving from the Abilene area at the end of 2011, and I can say with all honesty that Town & Country will be something each one of us will miss. Visited twice and both experiences were great. If you are concerned solely on picture quality you might give this place a miss. Its decent and very watchable, but nothing compared to most cinemas. On the other hand if you want the 'whole experience' I think this place is a lot of fun. Parking up, chatting with others before the movie, hanging out, take your own cooler, lawn chairs, relaxing in your truck bed or back of your car with your favorite blanket etc etc.... Its just a different way of seeing a movie and its fun!! If you have good speakers via your car/truck/SUV or a good boom box you'll receive great sound through you radio as the audio comes in crystal clear. The food available isn't bad, but prices are great compared to regular cinema and if you don't like.... like I said before, take your own cooler. On the negative; if you have a phobia about 'going' in an old grungy bathroom your might be holding it a while. Still... tons of fun for two movies for the price of one! Check it out! read more

I absolutely love this place. Snack bar is great and cheap too! Some have complained about the manager but I found him to simply be doing his job. Our battery died during the first movie and he allowed us to drive it around and re-enter. I can't believe this place exits in Abilene. Will be back time and time again! The new owners saved it from shutting down! Yay! But now you can't switch screens to see a different movie without paying a second time. They also charge by the person now instead of by the car load. You can't bring in your Chinese takeout anymore. The only food options are stuff you'd get at a baseball game. And they pair up the worst combinations of movies together. I guess that's so you'll leave and come back and pay a second time to see another screen. The two new screens are way smaller than the originals so you have to park closer to the screen for a good view but that puts you farther from the bathroom. So yay it's still open but I've not watched a double feature since the new owners bought it out. read more

I love going to this Drive in! I love that we can bring our own snacks or enjoy some of theirs. I'm on a special diet, so bringing my own is important to me. The staff is very nice! I do hope that they will one day reconsider about switching screens. I think it would really help their business if customers could choose from 4 movies, that would be Amazing! More Advertising would probably help too. There's a lot of people that don't know that there's a Drive In here or have forgotten. I think the Drive-In is a great source of entertainment for everyone and fun for Family outings! When my kids were younger we took them to this drive in and we all loved it! They are grown and have moved away now but have such fond memories of our days at the Drive In. Now, When they come to visit they want to share this with their families. This place offers a fun alternative to a generic movie theater. I like the fact that you can bring blankets and stuff with you to enhance the movie watching experience. Drive in theaters just make movies more fun. Would definitely recommend! read more

I've never been to a drive-in movie before and this place is a steal. I am from Louisiana and wanted to do something different for the night. Awesome prices for 2 movies back to back. And not to mention in the comfort of your own car, or truck! I had a great experience...even with the lightening show with some fireworks. Highly recommend! read more

The movie experience was the good part. It's cool to bring a chair and radio to relax. The bad part is the food. Hamburgers are pre made and not sure if it was real meat. Hamburgers at school are better. The chicken sandwich was super dry thrown on the pile of pre made food. I tried to order a pizza because as I remembered it was pretty good. We were told it would take 30 to 45 minutes because the oven was not on. The fries were not very good and when I asked for salt I was told " we use salt to cook them" so no salt. The prices are very high especially for bad food. We don't mind paying more for food to support the drive in but it is very bad decisions to cut corners on food. I guess they are not worried about repeating customers. read more

This drive in is fun. The employees were very kind and upbeat. Although the theater is in an older part of town- it still provides a much needed nostalgic aspect of Abilene. And the concession stand had all the classic movie snacks at low prices. This is my husband and I's new go to for date night. For $8 you get to watch 2 movies- good deal. Super relaxed viewing of two current movies for super cheap is the way to go! The kids have fun running around before the movie starts and in between the movies, but they sit outside in lawn chairs or hang out in the bed of a pick-up truck. You can pack your own snacks and bring your own cooler, but the concession stand has quality items at a great value. My ONLY complaint is the bathrooms. They could stand a little more upkeep and it'd be nice if the toilet paper supply lasted into the 2nd movie. May wanna bring along your own role (and air freshener) just in case. As for me - this is the only way I could afford for me and my family to keep up with the latest and greatest movies coming out. So, the bathroom facilities will do. read more

I've visited several times and always have a positive experience. The hamburgers and popcorn are my favorite and the entire family always has a great time. Truly a fun time!!! One to go down in the books!! Visiting from the gulf coast of Alabama, you don't see theaters like this anymore, especially in the hurricane ridden coastline. I love the old feel of this drive in, still fictional but has a lot of history behind it. With the moderation of the radio sound really makes it sound good if you have a good sound system in your car. No scary radio boxes to run into. Another great place that I LOVE to take my son to. My son is 3 years old so going to an actual theater would make me a mad-man. The food is reasonably priced. I've had mostly good experiences with their food, one time the popcorn tasted old and stale, but every other time it was great. For the most part, you don't have many problems with customers and if someone leaves their headlights on (even if the movie hasn't started) an employee comes out and asks them to turn it off, which is great for my eye-sight. :D My only complaint is the snack area always feels dirty and the bathrooms are in a DESPERATE need of an up-date and up-keep. Always love going here. One gripe is they don't let you swap screens. Some of the movie combos are so erratic I won't go and pay for 2 just to watch one. What does it matter which 2 you watch? Get rid of this stupid rule and get a 5 star! read more

Movie experience is fine. However, customer service is severely lacking. The food area feels gross. The cleanliness is not a priority at all. The bathrooms are not clean either. There are no directions where to go, period, except to exit. Maybe that was what I should have done when I first got there. The roads are horrible, it is to dark, the screens are to dark and I could barely see the screen. When I first drove in, thinking I was lost, the old man came up to my car and just started looking into my car. And just looking at me, as I got out of the car. I initiated the conversation by telling him I want to see a movie and how do I go about that. He directed me to the counter inside the building where I spoke with a young lady who helped me figure out what movie to see. The older man, I guess, was the owner, was very rude and short tempered. I told him I was lost in finding the screen for the movie I wanted to watch and all he could say was turn off the high beams. I told him I had no high beams on and he said maybe I should go back in and get my money back because this theater was not for me, he said. I was stunned. I wanted to be as much an asshole as he was, but I have to respect my elders, no matter how stupid they are. This old man had the nerve to ask me if I had someone in the trunk of my car. I really wanted to watch the movie so I ignored the bull...., bit my lip and continued on to do what ever it took to see the movie I wanted to watch. I wouldn't recommend using a credit or debit card here. I haven't been in 2 months and they have taken out 6 different transactions since then. They take your card info and process it over and over. read more

This is a fun, unique venue if you don't have to deal with the management! I have visited several times with no issues, but after loading up my vehicle, arranging to meet other family members there and arriving in ample time, I was informed that their system was down and the only form of payment that was accepted with cash. I never had a problem paying with a cc in the past and do not carry cash with me. I was more than willing to pay later so as not to miss the movie. Other than work with me, the manager, Ray was totally rude and unprofessional. His solution was for me to leave, get cash at an ATM and return, which would have been after the movie started. HIS OTHER "SUGGESTION" WAS TO KEEP MY CC AND FOLLOW ME TO THE ATM AFTER THE MOVIE TO GET HIS $16. LIKE MY WHOLE INTENTION WAS TO CHEAT HIM OUT OF MONEY!
