FANTASTIC! Old school looking hole in the wall drive up burger joint with non-burger options as well! Prices were nostalgic (meaning cheap and great) and taste was worth every cent and then some. Best cheeseburger i've had in SOOO long! absolutely delicious you can taste the butter on the bun. the texture of the bread is just the right amount of soft and crunch. Drive the 25 minutes from our house to drive and see that they are CLOSED! Burgers on a good day are great but the inconsistency is very ANNOYING and has hit the final straw for me. I guess every rule I've lived by should be called into question now! At least my self imposed guideline of picking food joints by their outside appearances! Two of the greatest culinary experiences found between two pieces of bread have been located in next to condemned condition! One was at Charlie's Burgers in Ft. Worth. The other was the PoBoy In New Orleans! After both experiences, I thought surely these were one offs! Well my friends, today I add Larry's in Abilene to this distinguished list! This place makes "hole in the wall" joints blush as it looks straight out of a b roll for run down and abandoned America! After reading the near perfect reviews on Yelp, I couldn't pass it up! Well, kick me in the head for passing places like this for the past 45 years! The cheeseburger with fries was SO GOOD! This place is cheap too! The burger was not fancy, but everything was fresh and tasted amazing! The fries were real potatoes and greasy perfection! Add the old timer at the window who was a perfect ambassador for Abilene, and this experience is the trifecta for scary looking, but great food stops! Last week while hanging out with friends, talking about places in town, places to go things to do and do in Abilene, as well as places to eat best pizza, or sandwich, and of course some of the best burgers in town. That's so when the name of Larry's Better Burger came up, I was like never heard of it. So naturally I got to check it out right... Larry's Better Burger looks like a place from Dives & Dinners that show on TV. Well guess what they got an Awesome Burger!!! Real meat, fixed the way you like it. Now you have to go to the window and order, no car hops or anything like that going on. Not sure it works as a first date to impress the ladies. For a good family meal or quick lunch, heck yeah! I don't know how this spot doesn't have more reviews. This is totally drive in/bowling alley burgers, and if you have any taste you know what I'm talking about. So delicious, and hit the spot. The vanilla milkshake was fantastic, and the onion rings were right on par. My only complaint was the fries...but hey, still pretty good overall. read more

As you pull up, the smell is great. Basic menu, cash only. Expect to wait a LONG time if it's dinner time or Friday night (closed Saturday and Sunday) No where to wait but in your car. A 3.5 would be the most appropriate score. The burgers are very good diner burgers that hit the spot. The fries are limp, greasy, and unsalted. The tater tots tasted odd, but were better than the fries. The milkshakes are those cheap blue bunny tasting milkshakes. All in all a good burger place. read more

Larry's is what it says Better Burger, I'm new to Abilene and while at a local bar I asked about where to get a good burger and hands down the people there said Larry's and they were right, and you can not beat the price. They also have a breakfast sandwich that is as good as the burger. I get mine with sausage and a large Pepsi $4.75 can not beat that with a stick. The folks working their are family and food is made fast and hot. I eat there every chance I get. They are only open a limited time and closed on the weekends, which is my only complaint. Got to try Larry's for the first time tonight when my wife stopped and picked up burgers and fries for dinner. Given what I'd heard, I was happy to finally get to try their food. We live a little way out of town, so the burger wasn't 100% fresh when I got it. I'm sure it would have been better fresh off the griddle, but as it was it was a passable burger. Not great, not bad. Toasted bun, thin patty, mustard, American cheese, (oddly green) lettuce, pickles, and onion. No tomato, as requested. The fries, though....they were awful. Cool, squishy, greasy clump of sliced potatoes in a cardboard boat, soaking through the bag. I'll eat almost anything, but these were just poorly done. I'm sure it was a busy evening and the grease got cool, but still...these should not have been served. They were crappy at any price. I now wish I'd taken a picture. Can't say I'm excited to try Larry's again. Maybe they had new folks in the kitchen on a busy night...who knows. read more

Good god, this place is older than I am. A hole in the wall that hasn't been painted in 30 years. You will look at it and go.......not me! But, they were serving good burgers 50 years ago and they still are. Old school to a tee. Cash or check only, no cards. Several specials that are a good deal. I had a cheeseburger, fries, and a small shake for $6.50. That's barely a burger most places. You still have to walk up to the window to place your order, then listen for your number over the loudspeaker. If you can get past the looks and the location, you will like the food. read more
