Had a terrible customer service experience here. We took the car in last week for emissions testing. They did NOT complete the emissions testing as requested, only safety inspection. Unfortunately, it wasn't until the next week that we realized their mistake. We called them to gain clarity and they admitted it was their mistake and we would have to come back before they close at 7. We drove all the way there and got in line at 6:07 before being told that they close the line at 6. This was not disclosed on the phone when we called earlier in the day and it did not matter to them that we were only back here because of their mistake. Do NOT go here! This place is a complete scam. I called for a quote to have brakes and rotors changed on my car. The guy put me on hold to check the OEM parts. When he came back to the phone, he quoted me $950 to replace all 4 brakes and rotors on my car. When I asked about using dealership parts, he said he would have to check on the part cost and that I should call back on Monday. When I called back, I spoke to the owner. The owner called the dealership to get a price on their parts (AND labor costs). The owner then told me he would charge $3k to replace the brakes/rotors with dealership parts. He also randomly CHANGED the OEM price job from $950 to $1,800!!!! Yes, this guy literally DOUBLED the cost to put OEM parts on my car SIMPLY BECAUSE he conspired with the dealership to match their labor/profit charge. So, rather than honor the quoted $950 price, this guy tried to bamboozle me into paying an extra $850! He also tried to raise the profit/labor charge on the dealership parts by $1400-again after colluding with the dealership... When I reminded the owner about the prior $950 quote, the owner confessed that the OEM parts only cost $400. So, when I called the first time, the agent counted the $400 cost and then added an additional $550 labor/profit charge. But, since colluding with the dealership, the owner is trying to jack his labor/profit cost up from $550 to $1,400 This guy literally engaged in price fixing which is a clear violation of the law! I urge you, do not patron this establishment. Go to a mechanic shop that respects the law, honors their word, and has integrity. EDIT: I've since called 10+ auto repair shops in the Arlington area and their labor charges for brake/rotor replacement ranges from $374-$770. The median price is $500, and the average price is $504. The owner of Town Car Repair altered my quoted price of $550 to a whopping $1400--which is nearly DOUBLE the highest mechanic in the ENTIRE area. The owner only did this AFTER speaking with the dealership regarding their labor costs. The original $550 quote price was reasonable and consistent with market rate. The owner then illegally tried to price fix in violation of antitrust laws...When I called the owner back, he claimed that he was "just trying to survive", but really, he thought I were dumb and that I would fall for his illegal scheme. What's worse is that he thinks his illegal conduct is permissible... Again, I urge you to frequent one of the many more honest mechanics in the area. read more

Most honest auto shop I've ever been to - wish I could give multiple ratings for this place but I guess I can't. Recently went in because I thought I had a bad tire that would need to be fixed or completely replaced (the tire went flat after driving in the snow) but they tested the tire and found there was absolutely no problem with it - that the tire might have temporarily went flat due to some inadvertent contact with the rim. They put the tire back on my car and put air in it all free of charge. A few years ago I went to this shop with an old Honda Civic that a tow guy felt was a likely transmission problem. They checked out the car and determined it was a much less significant problem that cost next to nothing to fix. Very trustworthy place I've been going to for 15+ years - from the shop manager on down to the staff. Had been mixing this place in with some other places but after my most recent experience will only be coming to this shop for auto work (which include the safety and emissions inspections they do here - this seems to be a pretty popular place for that) going forward.... read more

Unfortunately I happened to rely on trust while getting my car repaired here. I needed an engine replacement and Rob was super nice and told me he could get the job done and I wouldn't have to worry about the car for a really long time. When I got the car back, the check engine light was on and when I enquired, Rob told me that it would go away after driving for a few miles. Sadly for me, I had to relocate soon after and trusted Rob's words. The light didn't go away and now when I went to get my NY state inspection done, I was told that the engine that was put in doesn't belong to this model! There was a dangling wire(VVT exhaust) which Rob conveniently didn't mention to me at all. Now I'm having to sell the car for scraps. When I called Town Car Repair they always tell me they'll call back and never get back. Please avoid getting scammed and do not go here. read more

I initially went to Town Car Repair because it is very close to where I live and the reviews were outstanding. I'm not sure why I didn't receive the great service everyone else has. I needed an oil change and my check tire light was on. I was asked by Rob if I was going to wait or come back, since I live nearby I said I would come back and was told 1.5 hours and he would call me. Mind you, this is for an oil change (~30min) and to see what is wrong with my tires... There was only one car being worked on at the time. From across the street, I have a direct visual of the business and saw my car sitting in the same spot after 2 hours with other cars driving up and being worked on. When I called (though Rob said he would call) and asked for an update, I was told they were working on it "right now". I explained that I clearly saw no one working on it and it looked like it had not moved. Rob switched up the story and said someone would be looking at it immediately. The next evening after they had closed, my TPMS light came on. I went in the morning before work and was told it could take up to an hour to check out and get the right tools. Rob asked when I could come in, I said 6pm and he said that would work. I had to leave work early to get there before 6pm, but there was no one there and everything was locked and shut off. The next day I came in and Rob was "surprised" that no one stayed around... The next 8 hours just repeated the first interaction of letting my car sit for hours as they handled other business driving in. Finally I waited at the office when one of the workers drove my car in, walked right past me as I asked him for an update, he told Rob there was an issue and walked out, Rob then relayed that they needed to get another part from a dealer down the road. Another hour later and I could bring my vehicle home. A pretty ridiculous and unwarranted situation. When I got it back, the inside smelled like a homeless encampment, I almost could not use the car, I dont know what they did in there, but it smelled like toilet and body odor and that STENCH lasted for a month!! I burned incense inside the car -- ANYTHING to get rid of the smell!! I smelled like they had rubbed body odor into the fabric inside the car. NEVER AGAIN will I go there!! Bad ! I went to get my va inspection, they told me I needed brakes to pass, they did not do the job properly and I had to return the car to them. All the brake parts inside the wheel were damaged. It took 48 hours to order new parts. They asked me to go pick up parts. After contacting the owner they repaired it then when I got there the manager said there is a lot of air in the brakes, that should have taken 5 minutes to remove, and they had no tech to help. Then I open my car and all my stuff from glove box and inner console was thrown on my seat totally trashed out. The owner acted like he did not know. They've done a great job (major & minor work) on my 4 previous cars I've had since moving here. Each time they've been honest with diagnosing the issue and repairing it for a reasonable price. A honest mechanic is worth their weight in gold, it's the reason I keep coming back here and recommend this shop to all my friends. Also, Emissions and Inspections are fairly quick here, there's hardly a wait. There's a 7-11 right behind it so I normally just stop in there and grab a snack while I wait or watch some TV in the shop (they'll give you the remote!). Ask for Rob, the shop owner, when you go. I've been to a lot of repair shops in the area, and in my opinion, this one is the best. Recently, I hopped in my car to run errands, and the car wouldn't start. I'm within walking distance of TCR, so I walked over to explain my situation. Free of charge, they lent me their battery charger so that I could test and see if that was the problem. When it wasn't, I returned to the shop, and Rob offered to come across the street to take a look and try out a stronger charger. He came over and determined it was a larger issue, so I had AAA tow my car over, and they got to work on it, providing updates whenever available. I have to say - if you're looking for a reliable, no-BS shop with awesome customer service, this is a great option. The pricing for my repairs was completely reasonable, and far less than I would have paid at a place like Midas. More importantly, I was floored when Rob offered to take the time out of his day and come over to take a look. That's the kind of customer service that's hard to find in NoVA, and I'm grateful for it! I will definitely be returning for future work. read more

I was having trouble shifting the gears in my old Saturn SL2 and on January 15 took my car to Town Car Repair to have it diagnosed/repaired. The guys at the front desk were nice enough, and promised to get back to me with the problem and an approximate price. Having not heard back from them by January 17, I stopped by the shop to get a status report. I was told that the mechanic's wife had a baby, but that he would return the next day -- I clarified that (1) his wife had just given birth, and (2) that he'd be returning to work the following day. Didn't buy that for one minute, but whatever. Stopped by again on January 19 with the intention of taking my car to another mechanic for repair. The mechanic happened to be there there. Apparently his wife is pregnant and due any day (there goes the explanation for the 4-day lag on my repair). There was a backlog in repairs, but my the clutch on my car had been replaced (huh??) and the line needed to be bled (double huh -- older Saturn's have closed hydraulic systems...no bleeding necessary). Now I'm impatient and suspicious. JANUARY 23 -- stopped by again (no phone call from the shop in the interim), told by Mark the car is ready and will cost $625. The invoice is blank -- no itemized work, no parts pricing, no labor time/costs -- nothing. I explained that I was not going to pay them $600 without knowing what they'd done to my car and what took them over a week. Mark launches into a fuzzy explanation that included the incorrect clutch kit and attempted bleeding of the line (see above). I explained that I wanted an itemized receipt and all of the old parts and that I'd be by the following morning to pick up the car. JANUARY 24 -- snowing. No one in the shop but Mr. Park. I wait 15 minutes and leave a note on my still-blank invoice requesting itemized parts list and labor costs. Still no response. These guys may be great mechanics, but I can't recommend them based on the level of service I have received over the past two weeks. Drive past this shop and take your car someplace else. read more

Dear Sean J. im sorry your felt that way about my judgment on your car....After you had bought it from the Auction(which you said) it was "jerking" a lot, so I checked it out. Your check Engine light was on for a Failure on Shift 3. When I had opened your oil pan I saw to Chunks of metal at the bottom! From then I had advised that you have a major problem and the pieces of metal were from the inside the transmission! You would need a new or used transmission or risk further damage. If you feel that you were "robbed" I can tell you a Trans Service for any car is not $58 and im sorry you bought a bad car from the auction. You told me it was fine that they would take the car back and you would get another, not write a review which states all the hard work my guy and I did wasn't worth the money you paid and how were distrustful! I hit a median at about 11 PM and destroyed my front tire and rim. I got towed by sheer luck to Town Car Repair. I had a few other things that I needed done, so I left a note and my key. They called me at 8 AM the next morning, we discussed options and decided on a plan. They were able to fix my tire (instead of replacing it), change my brakes (which I knew was coming), change my oil, inspection and emissions by 3 PM. And it cost considerably less than I expected. The service was great, Rob is personable and outgoing, and I felt that this was a mutual business arrangement, and I was absolutely not getting ripped off. Piss poor time management. I've used their services about 3 times. The first time was excellent. The 2nd time sucked. I didn't have a ride so I had to wait for new brakes. They kept me there for FIVE HOURS!!! I saw people come and go. They put other cars before mine even though I was there early and I kept politely asking what was going on. I went a 3rd time to give them another chance and made sure I waited at home instead of the shop. Little did I know that not being there would make them take their dear sweet time on servicing my car. I dropped off my car on Wednesday evening for engine issues. It is now Saturday afternoon and I still don't have a car and the repairs have doubled in price. The car was supposedly ready on Thursday evening but when I came to pick it up on Friday afternoon, they had JUST taken it for a test drive and discovered more issues and advised me that it would be a few more HOURS. I said I would just get it on Saturday. I called at 8 AM, assuming that my car would've been a priority to finish after TWO DAYS and they were just about to work on it when they had all day Thursday and Friday.
