Based on past reviews, this shop seemed reputable, so I went in for tire replacement and an alignment. The following day after I picked my car, the car began making unusual noises, which worsened by the next day. When I returned to report the issue, staff brushed it off and told me to bring the car back several days later. Concerned, I took my vehicle to a different shop the same day. There, I was informed that one lug nut was completely missing and one of the newly installed tires was so loose it was a miracle I hadn't been in an accident. This is not a minor oversight--this was a serious safety hazard. When I informed Robbie of these findings, instead of offering an apology or accountability, he suggested that someone had tried to "steal my tire." The timing and circumstances speak for themselves: the issue began immediately after their service. I will not be returning to this establishment, and I strongly caution others to think carefully before trusting them with their vehicle. A mistake of this magnitude puts lives at risk. read more

I have used D&V for years. There is one primary reason and many secondary ones. The primary reason is Robbie, the heart and soul of D&V. Robbie never makes me feel stupid, not manly, or shameful for the state of my cars. He doesn't ever say, "what do you think we should do." When I went to Robbie with Subaru transmission problem, he sent me elsewhere. He explained his mechanics only knew Subaru transmissions were very different than others, and the didn't want me to pay for them learning. He did suggest a couple of nearby places. We had just moved to the area about a month before buying a used car from a well-known chain this past July. We needed a trustworthy mechanic to give us a second opinion, and turned to Yelp. Luckily we found this D & V. The owner and technical staff couldn't have been more pleasant. They were able to look at the car on very little notice without too much of a wait, and even offered transportation. As other reviewers noted,the owner was extremely thorough and informative without being off-putting or pushy. He was clear with us about our options and made us feel extremely comfortable. Luckily our car was good to go, and it didn't need servicing. We were able to drive it out of town later that day, feeling confident. Been going here for years, and ill never forget when I took my old old car there for repairs and they simply said what the car was not worth the money needed to spend to get it back on the road. Any dealership would have loved to been in that situation and charged $$$ knowing the car was going to break down again in 1000 miles! Also a great place to take any potential used car you are going to buy, for like $100 they will put the car on a lift and poke around to make sure it is a good buy. I noted a ticking sound as I was driving around and shortly thereafter, what a surprise, my tire pressure is dropping like... Well, it was dropping fast. So I call D&V and they say they will try to take care of it as quickly as possible. I drive in, they tell me to back up to the open door, my car is jacked up a minute later, the wheel is off and then it is back again less than 10 minutes later. They charged me $22 since the wheel had to come off the car and I am out of there in around 15 minutes. I have seen longer pit stops at the Indy 500. I had the work done last week and the pressure is holding up fine. I definitely recommend these guys for tire repair. read more

Where do I start? I guess this is the first time I've been significantly let down by Yelp reviews. Usually they are pretty close to what to expect and give you a good idea. I had gone to a large chain to have tires mounted and balanced before and was left with a bad taste in my mouth not going to name names...NTB...and figured I'd go to a local shop and support them this time around. I still want to go to a local shop, but, not this one. The truck I brought to them was NOT a looker, I'll give them that. And the issues I had are really minor nitpicks when it comes to the overall scheme of things. The reason for the low rating is that I just did not feel respected at all as a customer and a complete lack of communication. I needed new tires to pass inspection, so I had them ordered and took them by D&V after calling ahead of time to make an "appointment." So much for that. I night dropped the truck so it would be there in the morning for the 8AM slot. Next morning. Nothing. No call, nothing. I walked by the shop around lunch time and saw they had moved the truck to the back corner of the lot from where I parked it. Still no word. Whole day goes by. Nothing. Next day, I'm busy in the morning, so I call around 1:30 - "Hi I'm calling for an update on the black Toyota" "Yeah........" "Uhhh...it's the back corner of the lot and dropped it off 2 days ago?" "Oh, I don't handle that sort of thing call back later" To make a long story shorter, I felt really bad after that phone call and complete lack of communication. 3 days later when they got the new tires on...they had put them on backwards. I was done. I could not even let them correct it (not that they really offered to so I wasn't sure if I was going to be charged for it!) and took it to Gus and the BP up the street (Immediately respectful, and communicative - left a 5 star review for his shop), TL;DR - I did not mind the time. I really didn't. They could have taken a week to put them on. It was just the COMPLETE lack of communication. TELL ME you are busy when I first make the appointment not 2 days later! Better yet, don't make any new appointments until the queue is cleared up a bit!! read more

We are very happy with this automotive service center. They can fix things that need fixing. They don't try to fix things that don't need fixing. Prices are fair. Service is good. The owner and the staff are people you can trust. I once asked them to do quite a bit of work on a van that had about 107k miles. Robbie (the owner) refused, telling me the car's condition didn't warrant any further investment. He was right, I ended up paying to have the car towed a few months later, and I'm glad I didn't spend any more money on it. Was on my way back to Hampton Roads and realized I had a flat. Owner was all business. Took off my tire, saw the nail, patched the hole, told me it should be fine. Charged me around $20. Drove back four hours that night. No problems. Weeks later and the tire is still good to go. It was a newer tire so I was glad he was able to quickly repair it and I didn't have to replace it! I found them on Yelp and they were a lifesaver because they stay open later than most places.
