This business has low ratings for very good reason! I usually favor supporting local businesses, but not in this case. Over the past 14 months or so, our riding mower has been here twice for repairs and now is still not working!! Last season (2021) we spent $600 and weren't happy with cost, poor communication, the time it took to "fix", but figured at least it should be in very good working order. But now again this season after using only a few times, it was not working/starting! We sent it back here because we were told all the work was covered for a year. After another month without a mower, a lot of excuses, changing stories, poor communication, poor customer service, etc., we were told the bill this time would be almost $350! Even though I managed to get them down to $220, we were not happy! AND NOW AGAIN, after using only three times since we got it back, guess what... not working!! Very dissatisfied with town line. Had a lawn tractor that needed some work when it was returned the bill was much more than anticipated while I was appraised as to the many things I was told I needed although it ran well before. I had immediate problems. first the mower was not cutting. Check the NEW blades and found that they were never sharpened, and the tractor kept stalling. was picked up again and returned to Townline. When i got it back and used it I found that while it ran once again and the blades were sharpened a hinge on the grass catcher was broken. Now I need to replace the grass catcher cover. Will never go back to Townline and will pass on my disappointment to all those I know. read more

NO COMMUNICATION. multiple calls to the business over a period of over 2 weeks with NO CALL BACK for a simple repair. Repairs apparently done were not the repairs requested. It was as If I wasn't listened to when I described what the problem was when I brought the equipment in. Lots and lots of excuses for not calling back. The best one, (when he finally answered the phone) was the comically cliché, "you were next on my list to call". I couldn't get a price for whatever work was done during that conversation... even when I was told "its all up and running for ya" (up and running ??.. it was running when I brought it in!). I was warned not to use Town Line but I did it anyway. Now another customer is warning you -the reader.. Don't make the mistake I made. My husband dropped of our power washer for repairs. We were charged in advance. We were told he would call us when it was ready. Weeks went by no phone call. My husband finally called him and it was ready. When he went to pick it up he was told he owed another $120. Who the hell authorized him to perform more work without calling and getting permission from us. How does he get away with doing this? I would never use them again. Stay away!! Absolutely the WORSE service I have ever encountered. I was warned by several people about going here and that this place is a MAJOR RIPOFF. I should of listened. Customer service is horrible. No call backs when I requested them. I was told my mower that was to be serviced would be there 7-10 days. 3 weeks later and several phone calls I still did not have it. I was told I would have it on a Friday NOPE then called back and it was Monday NOPE. Then Tues. Finally I got pissed and went there. Felt bad for the kid working the desk It was not his fault. I contacted Bob back in late April on replacing my rotted 36" Encore Walkbehind Deck and he informed me that he had a 32" for 125.00 that he could convert for me. He said leave me a 40.00 Deposit and would call me when ready. A couple of weeks went by I contacted Bob to get a progress report and he was not available but assured me he would call me back, never heard from him. Called again couple weeks later same story wasn't available that he would call me back. Then i was getting frustrated and started calling him weekly same results no one contacted me. Now we are in mid June and finally someone gave me a call. We are putting the final touchs on it Bob will get in touch with you. I told Bob i was picking up machine wether it was ready or not the following day. He called June 30th and told me machine was ready and the total cost was 748.00 and i was shocked to find out how much it was. He started listing what he did to the machine that was not approved or discussed with me. So i went down to pickup and after much debate he lowered his cost to 500.00. We passed Town Line every now and then while exploring our new community and noticed the "Welder on duty" sign. I decided to drop by and see if they would consider the very small job of welding a stainless steel sconce that had come apart at the seam. I was treated as though I had a $5000.00 transaction. The owner, Bob and the welder on duty were friendly, helpful and courteous. The job was done in no time at all and looked perfect! I am so happy that I took the chance to stop by. Recently had my John Deer riding lawn mower serviced at Town Line Power Equipment; NEVER AGAIN!!!! Customer BEWARE!!!! Owner named Bob claimed to repair my riding lawn mower's gasket in a couple of days; after calling numerous times throughout that week and following week, finally had my lawn mower repaired and returned back to me after waiting over a week and a half. To make matters worse, the amount he had quoted my husband and I over the phone to replace and install needed gasket plus wheel alignment was very different than the amount he charged us; price was hiked up by $100.00 more. When I asked him why is the charge $100.00 more than the price he had said it would be, all he could come up with was excuses which made no sense. NEVER AGAIN! Beware: Bait and Switch Pricing, Poor Quality Workmanship, Lack of customer service I'm writing this review for anyone in the situation I found myself in: your snow blower is not working and you are feeling desperate to find a business to help you repair it. For those that do not want to read it all I understand. I would implore you to just read through the bullets. I promise that my only motivation is to help any potential customer in this area make an informed decision. Check out other Yelp/Google reviews with details, there seems to be a recurring theme. DO NOT BRING YOUR EQUIPMENT HERE FOR SERVICE. It may be close to where you live and seem convenient. If you speak to one of the owners (Bob), he may charm you as a nice guy. But please, do yourself the favor of taking the extra time to find another small engine business to help you. There is Norfolk Power in Norfolk and Norm's Small Engine Repair on the Franklin/Bellingham line. You will save yourself time, aggravation, and money in the long run. * Bait and Switch Pricing - In 3 unrelated service transactions for a snow blower, lawn mower, and power washer (myself, my father, a friend) we experienced the same pricing 'bait and switch' practice where the original agreed to price for servicing equipment increased significantly when we went to pick it up, unexpectedly without any prior notification. The unexpected cost was from 'extra' service work provided that was never communicated or authorized by us. The other source was the initial quote not including the full cost of parts. In 2 out of the 3 experiences, when protesting this as an unfair undisclosed cost, Bob (the owner) removed $30 - $50 to appease us. This seems to be a business practice they use to 'up sell' service orders and I am sure we are not the first to have experienced this. In our 3 experiences the unexpected increase from the initial quote ranged from $100 - $250. This type of practice is alarming for many reasons and is unacceptable. There might be a silver lining if the extra money they charged resulted in working equipment. In our experience at Town Line, it did not. * Poor Workmanship Quality - My snow blower was initially returned to me 'fixed', but was not actually functioning properly. After bringing it back immediately, Bob admitted it was due to it being assembled incorrectly by them, accidents happen. After getting 'fixed' again, it was returned after the last snow fall of the year. It was able to start without issue, so my thought was it works and they held up their side of the bargain. A frustrating experience, but things happen and I left it at that. On the first use this year in 4 inches of light snow, the auger belt they 'replaced' last year, snapped. Knowing there was no other use of the snow blower in between it being 'fixed' and this year, I suspect the replacement belt they provided was not new or it was just installed incorrectly which caused it to break. Either way, a belt that was replaced through service at Town-Line did not even make it through one use. That is unacceptable to me and is an example of the quality of service that is being provided. This sub standard of quality was also experienced by a friend with a power washer being returned to him missing bolts and not actually fixed. * Customer Service - After dropping off your equipment, getting it back in the time originally quoted is wishful thinking. As the winter season is busy, I think this is actually understandable. I was quoted a week and it ended up being 4 weeks until it was returned 'fixed'. In terms of communication on when you might get it back, getting to speak to someone about it was extremely difficult. You will spend a lot of time trying to track down someone to talk to or call you back. Compared to the first two issues of pricing and workmanship, this is the least offensive. I get this is a retail business and it's not set up to handle call in/call out customer service, however basic communication was missing and was incredibly frustrating. My snow blower experience has an expansion of frustrating details that I will not continue on. I was hesitant to write this review as I am passionate in supporting small businesses. In the end, I feel that it is more important for the surrounding community to be aware if a business is using questionable practices and providing sub quality work. With 3 experiences I personally know of (and other reviews out there), this unfortunately seems to be the case with Town Line. Do not bring your equipment here. read more

I've had two experiences with this shop, but will not be returning. In early spring I took my push mower in for a tune-up. Other than not getting a call when it was ready, the work seemed to be fine. Later in the spring I took a power washer in for service that was leaking gas. After not getting any calls for a couple of weeks I reached out and they informed me the carburetor needed to be rebuilt. That would take another 2-4 weeks. I called after another few weeks and was informed that the rebuild didn't take and they'd need to find a replacement. After another couple of weeks I called and said they'd found a used replacement but were still working on it. I called again after another couple of weeks and pinned them down to a pick-up time on a Friday. However, when I called on that Friday, it wasn't done and the pick-up got pushed out to Saturday, which didn't work as we were leaving on a 2-week vacation. I finally picked up the washer after returning from vacation only to get home and realize 2/3 of the nozzles were not the same as what I had dropped off. I called and they said to bring them back in. Another trip to Town Line. I had a Troy-Bilt and 2/3 of the nozzles were Westinghouse, and one of those was the wrong spray angle (white/40 degrees) vs. what I had dropped off (green/25 degrees). I was eventually given a green/25 degree nozzle, but not the Troy-Bilt I dropped off, another Westinghouse. I was told my old nozzles were broken and these were better. My nozzles weren't broken when I dropped them off and were never given back to me to validate that they were broken. The true test of whether a business is good is whether one would recommend that business to their friends/family. I would not recommend this facility to others and will not be bringing any of my power equipment here in the future. I have used Norfolk Power in Norfolk and Norm's Small Engine Repair on the Franklin/Bellingham line and would recommend either of them over Town Line. Norfolk Power is more expensive but much better at customer service. Norm's is smaller and cheaper. read more

After reading the reviews on Town Line, here's a good one showing that this guy is not an honest businessman. He comes across like he cares about your situation, but in my case did nothing about it. I tend to be detailed, so please bare with the read. What I found today will tell it all. I purchased a brand new troy built snow blower 3 years ago from Town Line to support local businesses. The machine began stalling the first time I used it. It would run fine and just randomly stall. When looking in the fuel tank, I noticed small pieces of a felt like material floating around. I called Bob and he said it's probably the fuel. It's brand new, it cannot be bad fuel. I explained that there were pieces of felt floating around in the tank and it needs to be flushed out and the filter replaced. He came by to bring it back to the shop and returned in two weeks supposedly flushed out. There was one more storm that season and it ran without stalling. So it was it fixed... not! The following year we got clobbered and the damn thing continued stalling. If it sits for 15 minutes it runs or continues stalling after10-20 minutes. Called Bob again and first excuse was the fuel went bad... wrong again. I'm pretty good at winterizing all my equipment and outboard. I tried to find the fuel filter and there was nothing on the fuel line and nothing in the parts list. Bob said there is no fuel filter. I had a hard time believing it, but there was nothing on the internet or parts list. I insisted the carburetor be replaced. Now the excuse was the machine was out of warranty, but he eventually came by again and brought it back. Two weeks go by, I end up shoveling a foot of snow. So now I have a machine with a new carburetor... not!!! I will skip 2015 because this review is getting old and little snow, but it was another round of BS with him. The machine did the same thing yesterday. What I found today: Completely took apart everything that has to do with fuel delivery. It was quite clear that none of the above was ever performed on this snow blower. Removing the carburetor and gas tank is a major pain in the ass on this snow blower. That's the first sign nothing was never touched. The tank fuel line fitting has a small filter element, It was clogged with small pieces of the felt material. Filled and drained the tank into a clean pale and it had all kinds of particles and more of this felt. I'm sure this snow blower is going to run perfectly after real cleaning and a brand new carburetor. I will never consider going to Town Line again. read more

For a simple Tune-Up on a 2 year old lawn mower, this sad excuse for a business first charged me $86 then when I discovered the mower was still not operating correctly, Bob tried to charge me another $50 for the very same repair; cleverly dubbed a "gesture" - One week later! They picked up my snow blower - which I found to be convenient :) ~ the staff is very nice and knowledgeable . They also returned my snowblower - by delivery & as a courtesy ,because I had given them a referral, since I am a repeat customer they even fixed my pull rope . They always can fix or order parts when I need and if I need to replace my machines ~ I'm going to them ! They also take trade in's ( so solves my problem of getting rid of my old equipment) I know they will give me a great price ! Bought a brand new Ariens snow blower. First season it was used never. The unit was then drained of fuel for the spring/summer of 2014. Winter of 2015 was preping unit in November. Unit would not start. Brought unit back to this joint where it sat till January of 2015. Lucky we had no snow last winter. They never return calls after many messages were left. Had to go there in person to find out the status on the unit. They made up that the unit needed new carb (brand new machine) and said bad fuel was left in machine which was a lie. I religiously drain all my machines every fall for storage because i know how fuel can gum up. 3 months it took to get the machine back and that was only after a complaint was filed with the BBB. Three words describe this place. Deceitful, Unprofessional and unreliable. Stay away and don't go by their BBB rating. They fight all their complaints with BBB and once the consumer doesn't respond back (because they're just sick of it), the BBB deletes the complaint. You've been warned everyone ! read more

Sucks! don't even waste your time. It's better to look at youtube videos and get it repaired yourself rather than giving it to Town line power equipment for service. First of all they say its $149 for tune up for mowers and no matter how good the condition of your mower is they will come up lot of excuses and say that they change parts and the mechanic has spent 6 hrs charging $65 per hour for simple tune ups. It's not a car to spend 6hrs for annual tune ups. Also they never deliver on time nor repair as per the time they promise. As a person Bob is ok, but his entire team has no clue or knowledge about the status of the repairs and they lie when you call them and give false information. I've been bringing my lawn tractor, chain saw, lawn mower etc here for a few years and never had an issue. Bob always tells me what he's going to do and if he finds he needs to do more than he said, he calls first. Last year my lawn tractor somehow blew the engine. I had oil all over the place. Town Line came and picked it up to check. Bob called and told me what happened, I can't recall specifics, but rather than try to sell me a whole new, or used mower, he suggested a new motor. Cost a lot less and I had it back in a few days. I've gone to multiple places for small engine repair and Bob's prices are right in line with everyone else. read more

awful... empty promises on what they can do, total failure to deliver. customer service low on the priority list. no response to vmail asking for status, no response to 'bob will call you back'. total disorganization. on top of being unable to solve my mower issue, I was told I needed a $149 tune-up, which was strange since the mower ran perfectly (my issue was with the mower deck), and i had done my own tune-up last season, including plug, filters, lube and oil change. you may be safe dropping off blades to be sharpened, but that is about as far as I would go. oh, when I was there to get my mower back, I witnessed a guy who had bought a new battery from them, and had to return as there wasn't any acid in it. wouldn't you think they would prep and charge the battery for their customers? read more

Thank god for this business in my town! I am a homeowner with over 3 acres of property, and own every piece of power equipment to maintain it. I have everything from a chainsaw, riding mower, weedwacker, snow blower, and more. This business has always been up front and honest with me as a customer and made sure I had a fix when I need it. Bob always greets me at the counter and takes the time to explain the requirements of upkeep and best practice on all my varying pieces of equipment. I don't get that time and attention from anyone else on items I own when I bring them in for service. Because of that generosity I bought my Ariens snowblower from Bob, who sold it to me on a snow filled night long after business hours, and had his driver who was suppose to go home an hour before deliver it to my home that night. This was in the winter of 2015 when it just wouldn't let up, day after day of snow.That's customer service! They've never just sold me my equipment they've sold me a commitment everytime.
